Was there a post in a recent thread (maybe April or March?) about allergy medication and weight gain/slowing weight loss?
I seem to recall seeing something, but was unable to really process it at the time. I just went off Zyrtek as my allergy season is thankfully winding down...and I'm wondering if that's part of the reason my weight loss stalled so annoyingly in late March/April.

I don't know why it popped into my head today...maybe because I went off Zyrtek last week and I've been seeing correlated losses on the scale? (Obv correlation isn't causation, but it made me think.)
I'm currently googling the snot out of this to find reputable sources.

I did find that when I got off centirizine (generic Zyrtec) and onto loratidine (generic Claritin) that I was less starving all the time. It was noticeable for me. So if things other than Zyrtec work for your allergies, I say go for it.
ETA don't know much about Allegra- this whole thing started for me because my kid was put on antihistamines to increase her appetite, and I said hmmmmmmm lol. Worth a google, to see if your particular allergy med of choice has similar side effects.2 -

I'll have to go back and look at when I started the Zyrtek, when I went off the Zyrtek, and chart that against my weight charts. And I'll have to see if my losses go back to a more normal cadence now that I'm off of it, but it's DEFINITELY food for thought. :thinking face:

@CupcakeCrusoe I read that like Jim Carry in Liar Liar. LOL! Allegra is the only thing that works for me. I suppose it doesn't really matter I'm on anti depressants and those are known to cause weight gain and I don't see me getting off those anytime soon... I recently had a doctors appointment about losing weight and they said it would be a difficult journey on anti depressants but he thinks I'm going in the right direction.

Hello all 🥰 new to this kinda. I was here years ago and lost a good 88 pounds, gained a lot but not all of it back, okay mostly all lol. Looking to get back on it because I know I'm fully capable of being my best self and feeling good.
My boyfriend and I met doing stand up comedy (that's where I gained 60 lbs traveling, drinking, partying for a job lol)
We both cut out drinking and are taking a break from comedy for health reasons. Time to get my diet in control now that I have cut out drinking. My goal is to lost 85 lbs and see where I want to go from there.

Granted, every body is different and different drugs will work differently, but it is possible to lose weight on antidepressants. I've been on various antidepressants since I was about 17 or so, and I've been on the same combo for at least 5 years. In late 2020/early 2021, I was able to lose 35 lbs (and then I got lazy again). Fortunately, my psychiatrist is very aware of my weight issues and tries to avoid prescribing drugs that are more likely to cause weight gain. Hopefully, you won't have too many issues from the antidepressants. I'm a big mental health advocate and feel it's so important to take care of mental health above all so that you can be in the right mindset for everything else.
I did recently start a monthly injectable medication for migraines (Emgality), which has a lot of reports of rapid weight gain of ~15 lbs, so that's fun. Maybe that's why I'm having more trouble losing this time around. I've been trying to determine if it's really worth it to stay on it. I've been on it for 3 months now, and I don't have any other side effects, which is positive. Can't really tell if it's working though - I still get migraines and they last for very long stretches, but I also have more pain-free days, so I really don't know.

I, at one point this week, say 192.9, but alas, it didn't last. I will blame weightlifting on Friday for my Sunday weight, namely because it has been a while and my legs/arms were still sore Sunday when I weighed myself. Getting closer to goal 6! And I took the dog to the dog park and chatted with another dog owner this weekend- goals 3 and 7!

I've been on it for over 2 years and didn't notice any issues with it in terms of weight gain. It also is my miracle drug in terms of reducing migraine days and reducing their intensity when they do happen.
Obviously every body is different! When I switched jobs last year making sure this was covered on my insurance plan was one of the most important factors in accepting a job offer.2 -
@biohazardinc how terrifying! I had an incident like that as a child (my chain slipped, no hand brakes, top of a hill!) but no one was there to stop me. I've been terrified of hills on a bike since. Last night I put my last few "new low weights" on my whiteboard, with the dates they happened, and counted the number of days between them. Hoping if I have it right in front of me I can motivate myself to keep doing what I *know* works, trying to bring those new-lowest-weights closer together. Since I always weigh low, bounce for a few days, then hit a new lower low IF I keep on with the program.
That's what makes the difference. Sticking with the program.

On paper, it doesn't look great this week but motivation-wise, I'm feeling really good. I got a night away to myself on saturday, i think for the first time since having kids. It was such a breath of fresh air that i call this week a win just for that, lol.
Today, I've been meal planning and am ready to go to the grocery store. Just ate dinner, so I should be in my "right" mind and not hungry. Maybe the warmer weather, but I'm feeling more like eating veg and not grazing/snacking on sweets. Phew! I'm thankful for that

Yes I watch show series or movies on my tablet. Helps me to pass the time. I exercise only on my days off work and not my 4 work days. The long times makeup for that. 2 hours is on the shorter side of my normal. 3 times I have done a Marathon, 26.2 miles, between 2 sessions in a day. If I get close enough I just have to do it.

The COVID saga continues but it is getting too close to home or actually it is in the house. We have been continuing to mask in public even though others aren’t even though the rates here are high. This morning my youngest that lives with us tested positive. They weren’t feeling great this weekend but had just tested negative with a PCR test on Friday but when they woke up feeling worse today we said to take a home test and yes it was positive. So they are staying downstairs and we are up. However this isn’t a big house. At least we just got the 2nd booster. I am upping the vitamin D and we mask when we are on the same floor which we are avoiding. We were actually planning to meet my son for a walk before they went back to Texas. But even if our youngest hadn’t tested positive we wouldn’t have wanted to risk getting our son or daughter-in-law sick before leave to go back home so we would have cancelled anyway with someone in our house under the weather. They are staying with her mother.
Since last week I was able to finally get 6 exercise sessions in so I went for a walk today hoping that if I don’t get COVID I can keep up my 6 days a week of exercise going. My weight is staying down and I am staying below my calorie goal. Luckily we have enough groceries since we have to quarantine.
@mmdeveau It sounds like you are making progress. I have similar thoughts about the gym and mask mandates lifting. We just put the Y on hold again but I want so badly to start aqua-exercise again. My husband and I are being very conservative but we live with my youngest and they do better working in the office than remotely so they go in more days than they have to each week. They also are taking some classes to get exercise. They wear a mask but this morning they tested positive. They graduated during the worst part of COVID when no one was hiring. I am proud they didn’t give up and took a coding boot camp (on-line) to keep their skills fresh until hiring picked up and got an excellent job in their field, software engineering. They have been very careful for us for so long it is hard for us to ask that they keep it up when they are now trying to get healthier.

Good morning everyone!
Lost my whole post. Weight 188.0, not worried, Flo is coming and I feel bloated. It's right on top of my trendline. I certainly haven't been eating enough to gain.
Skin cancer screening found a mole I have to watch like a hawk. But the nurse practitioner said I took good care of my skin, so there's that.
Dishwasher broke. But we have a new one coming. Whatsisface leaped into action yesterday about it, which I'm very grateful for. After finding potentially a cancerous mole, I didn't want to deal last night.

@biohazardinc aw, it sucks when that happens, you have to build up the kid's confidence to where it was before The Event. Happened with my kid and swimming- she jumped in happily without knowing how to swim. Whatsisface fished her out immediately, but she's rightfully a little scared to go in even with a life jacket now.
It seems to be a pretty common experience for period-havers to retain water for the first half or so of the period, and to whoosh afterward.
I've heard anecdotally that antidepressants don't help weight loss, but I'm sure we can help you find the way.

Same. I’ve been on antidepressant and anti anxiety’s since about 17. I’ve tried so many. For along time I was on one that wasn’t known for weight gain but my depression got so bad in recent years they switched me onto two meds that are known for weight gain. I’m just hoping by staying more active and mindful about my intake that I can combat the side effects.
I was recently put on Ajovy which is a injectable migraine preventative. I’ve been on it for 3 months and while on here haven’t seen an influx. Emgality wasn’t approved by my insurance.

That's so interesting because I had the exact opposite experience. I was initially prescribed Ajovy and it wasn't approved by my insurance, so I gave up for a while then went back and they prescribed me Emgality, which was eventually approved with a bit of a fight.
After I wrote my response to you, I realized I've never tried to lose weight while not on antidepressants of any kind (I was actually underweight as a teen when I started taking them), so I have no idea if it's easier to lose weight while not on them. It's something I'm sure I'll never know as I need my meds to function.2 -
I hit a new low today! And I'm wearing a size L shirt for the first time in six years. (It's a Woman Within size L but it's NOT a Woman Within size 2X!!)

Yikes, @KeriA I hope everyone is able to stay safe, and youngest recovers fast. I don't understand the rush to go unmasked. it's SUCH an easy way to protect everyone! I am still wearing mine when I go out, and avoiding crowds. I really don't want to be the reason someone got sick.

Thanks for all of your concerns for us. So far my husband and I are not symptomatic and will take a home test on Friday if we stay that way. I just got back from my walk which was longer than yesterdays.

@CupcakeCrusoe during the early pandemic we had to replace a refrigerator and a stove. We just replaced our hot water tank. I am glad you had this in hand. We actually don't have a working dishwasher but plan to remodel our kitchen soon and will replace the old broken one then. I would like to do a skin cancer screening too. It seems I can only get one place looked at during my Drs visits.2 -

UGW-122 lbs. I was there in 2009/10 and kept it off for 5 years then got lazy.
My goal is to continue with what seems to work for me. 1000-1200 calories, low carb 15 Net +/- 3(My body seems to not do well with carbs. It doesn't know how to burn them and hangs onto them way too much!), minimum 70 + oz of water, 2 meals/day on my days off(3) and 3 meals on my work days(which are long), exercise on my 3 days off. (Did long times on Friday 228 minutes and Saturday 240 minutes too.)
5/8/22-148 lbs :-) Glad for the whoosh of water retention from my OK trip.
5/15/22- 159.6 lbs. Well a short lived whoosh! I know its mainly water weight. Had more carbs the last 2 nights than my usual. Glad I didn't hit the 160's! Elliptical today 130 minutes for 10 miles.
5/17/22-158.2 lbs Had my annual physical today. Dr was ecstatic at my weight loss. I'm down 80+ lbs since he saw me a year ago. He thinks my Low carb/calorie restriction & exercise way of eating is good for me. He thinks I must be VERY carb sensitive. He said I should get some weight lifting and some core work in, which I knew I should have started too.
I received some good and not so good news. Not so good news, I have shrunk. Instead of 5'4" I'm now 5'2"! :-( I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with Osteopenia by a Dexa scan. He is ordering another one. So that is kind of good news. People say to get one to check body fat percentage so now I'll get one but because of the height loss, for bone density, so sort of bad. Also the loss in height lowers my calorie TDEE. Ugh!
The Dr does agree with my assessment/goal, that I have about 30 lbs more to lose. And I need to get my blood work drawn soon. He said they can't draw in the offices (UPMC policy) due to National lab tube shortage. So I have to figure out to get it drawn a day before I start work at the hospital. I didn't exercise today, as I usually do, due to the Dr appointment, then some errands and home with just enough time to cut my grass before sunset! (A rider, so very little exercise).4 -
So I'm wondering with my above post, about having to schedule a DEXA scan, how does it interpret loose skin? I'm thinking it will be considered fat. I can't find anything online. Does anyone know?0

Good morning everyone!
Still 188, still fine with that. Something is going on in this house wrt stomach things again, so back I go eating "safe" foods. No spices, fat, only a little sugar. No coffee. Miserable. My stomach feels like someone tied it in a knot. The baby's not going to like it much, either.
My day of safe foods: black tea to try to wake up, rice krispies with almond milk, apple, chicken, brussels sprouts, banana, then... we'll see how I'm feeling to see what we're doing for dinner. Odds are good I'll make something to involve rice either way.
Gonna try to go rest horizontally instead of tag party this morning, but I've read all your posts. Have a great day!

I haven't made a comment in a few weeks. But reading all your posts is so helpful- whether it's a NSV or a struggle or encouragement. I over did some outside work last weekend and both knees are hurting. My right knee is bone on bone. I've had 2 injections and he wants me to lose weight before any surgery. My motivation is so low- since I lost my spouse last year, I've had to take over everything and I'm tired. I pray, and am involved with a couple organizations, but need to at least try a little walking or maybe the pool at the senior center? I'm 71 now, weight is 260- need to get to at least 170. I was 295 several years ago and tgen got to 260. But am tired, tired. Any suggestions are welcome. I am logging food again, so that's helping. Thanks fir listening!!!6

Flo came yesterday, on top of everything else, (kitchen disaster because broken dishwasher and new dishwasher are both here- and dishes are backed up, check, baby's been at home making a mess all day because of stomach thing, check, laundry backlog due to Kid throwing dirty dishtowel and possibly other things in basket of clean clothes, check, baby and I both have stomach things, check, and flo's here, check check check) so yesterday was hectic. Managed to make a dent in laundry backlog while whatsisface took care of dishes backlog, and we got through it.
Weight is 187 this morning, which follows my period weight pattern. To follow the pattern again tomorrow, my weight should drop again between .5-2 lb, depending.
I'm cautiously drinking coffee this morning, but will still be eating "safe foods" at work today, and we'll see how everyone feels tonight. So tired of no fat or spices, and little sugar. I wanted peanut butter fudge so bad yesterday, and I thought to myself, lol, that's because that's everything you can't have right now- fat and sugar.
I'm still pretty tired, somehow it really takes a lot out of me, and yesterday was wild. Also, I didn't eat nearly as many calories as usual yesterday, just because I didn't feel like eating more rice, lol, and I could feel how much weaker I felt. It was a really interesting experience.

@finngirl61 Hi again! I'm so sorry to hear that your doc won't do surgery on a very painful knee unless you lose weight. The good news is, weight is lost in the kitchen, so while exercise is very beneficial, it's not required for weight loss. If you are logging your food accurately and keeping a deficit, you will lose weight.
A note on accuracy (you might already know this, if so, sorry!): try to use verified entries in the MFP database (entries with green checkmarks beside them). If you are eating something with a barcode, scan it with the MFP app and see if it has an entry. Weigh and measure your food- a good food scale is only $10, and logging food by weight will be the most accurate, so you can know exactly what you're eating.
(But! Don't do that if you're prone to eating disorders! In that case, just up your fruits and veg and protein, and try to minimize processed snacks. Fruits and veg have fewer calories than most processed snacks, but with more volume, so you get full quicker. And then log everything if that doesn't trigger disordered eating in you.)

And another thing (sorry, thought about Columbo for a second, haha), if you'd like to find exercise that helps, if you have access to a pool, that would be excellent for that knee.

Hey all! I almost weighed in this morning but I know better. If I start weighing daily instead of weekly I'll start worrying over every little change. 2 more days until weigh in day.
One of my goals for May was to get my fasting blood sugar below 140 and keep it there. The past week I've been between 120 to 130 every morning. Yay!!!! I need my A1C to be below 6 when I check it in 2 months. Like, I really want to show up at the doctor and not have it elevated at all. My last 2 tests at the doctor were 5.7 & 5.9 but my at home test earlier this month showed 6.4 so I have some real work ahead of me to get it back down.
My daughter managed to get herself grounded yesterday so all our weekend activities have been cancelled. That is both good and bad. I mean, I really looked forward to some things but that also means I have time to accomplish tasks I've been putting off as well as get to the Saturday morning exercise class that I've been missing for months.
Yesterday I also desperately wanted to just binge eat the chips in the pantry. Instead I made a mini pizza on a keto roll in my air fryer. Then after "the incident" leading to my daughter's punishment I really wanted to have a couple drinks. My husband, who rarely has a drink, even asked for something. LOL. I know the calories & sugars in the mixed drinks I prefer when I've had a long day but instead only had a doctored hot tea. (Yes I know this makes it sound like I'm an alcoholic but the reality is I have, maybe, one or two drinks a month... usually with my husband when our kid is in bed.... it was just that kind of day.)
Anyway, I've been putting my willpower to the test A LOT the last 2 days. Even more than I did with the events over the weekend. I've won out each time and that's a huge victory. Better than anything that happens on the scale is reminding myself that I can overcome wanting to eat all the things.
Quick Diabetes lesson if you want/need to know....
A "normal" fasting number is 70-100 and 2 hours after meals is less than 140.
For controlled diabetes fasting is below 140 and after meals below 180.
Your A1C is a 3 month average of blood glucose. This is supposed to be checked every 6 months to verify you are on track and do not need medication adjustments. I am currently diet & exercise controlled without medications.

This week I managed to break my spin bike (pedal stripped from the shank while riding). I was a little sore from the incident but was more disappointed that I have to miss out on my regular spin exercise until the replacement parts get here. I already had to shift my walking routine to spin bike. We moved to the country where it is not safe to walk in the early morning before dawn because of mountain lions. I used to walk 5 miles before work when I lived in the suburbs and now can only get about 1.5 miles during the day. I think I am going to try an online yoga or barre class today to give my body something different.5 -
