MN humidity is beastly this week..in the 60s and high 80s for temps. Feels more like 100 though and not real easy to breathe. Good day to stay home and read a good book.1 -
Good morning all!
Weather is milder today thankfully with some overcast skies but the hot stuff over 100 is coming…. My oldest and her boyfriend are supposed to be coming up next week and I can’t wait!! They were digging a hole for a peach tree down in Texas and they unearthed cool treasure!
Grandmallie Oooh mattress toppers are wonderous! I’m spoiled with ours. I sleep so well on it! A trick I learned from my chiropractor for sleeping shoulder pain is to use your scapula as support. Don’t roll ‘all’ the way onto your shoulder. I squeeze my scapula to know I have it where I want it and I sleep great again with no pain to my shoulder.

Lanette-good luck with the purging of stuffs. I removed the majority of DH's things fairly quickly (clothes, etc.). I know others touch nothing for years. I passed on some of the tools to youngest son Friday. Gave him a hammer and he said "we have one." I said -"that one was dad's." and he said "I need that." While I won't be leaving children a lot, youngest son (since he lives closest) will get quite a bit in tools. The hugs are the hardest thing to replace.
Rebecca-I understand you about military and their spouses. I have never been one, but my oldest brother retired as a naval captain. His wife had the officer's wife role down to perfection.
Heather-nice shoes. I have a pair of Brooks Ghost and love them for walking. My orthotics fit them nicely.
My orthotics are in for a retread. At recent check up, podiatrist said that she wants them with extra layer-she said I am putting more miles on them than most of her patients and she wants them to last! It is awkward not using them, but I am stretching out well and making it work.
Random heath update:Had ct scans Friday (neck, chest, pelvis/abdomen). Pelvis/ab results are in. Maybe a exceedingly small watch are on liver (or it could turn out to not be there next test). Interestingly, radiologist made note that my uterus was not visible, possibly surgically removed. I hasn't been-it's still there somewhere, but I think that reflects degrees of prolapse. PT involves variations of kegels and biofeedback on muscle contractions (they have devices for everything). Making small steps forward, but a long way to go. I recommend the physical therapy (once you get over some awkwardness).
Weather here is to be cooler and rainy today. Thunder and rain right now. Will keep an eye on radar and hopefully can fit in a walk during a non-thunder/lightening period. I enjoy walking in a light rain. Other than that-laundry and putting together some things in basement for trash (wood from old bar).
Enjoy Sunday. Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
I thank your brother for his service!👍⚓. I was proud to be a Chief's wife, but didn't wear his uniform mentally. I recall a neighbor telling me she was hesitant to approach me because I was a Chief's wife. I remember laughing saying I put my pants on one leg at a time just like her! Some wives do take it too far. I recall meeting some officer wives when husbands ship pulled in. They seemed really nice, but if I ran into them at the commissary, I was invisible to them. Nothing like approaching saying hi and then they continue walking and look thru you. I think I just said out loud, "oh we are playing that game are we, fine, no worries... like I always talk to myself out in public. Sheesh.🙃😂

I have acquired 2 more pen pals👍💖 ! I had mentioned my hobby in a Facebook group called "Older than dirt", a bunch of nice old ladies like myself.🙃😂. So have about 30 pen pals now, with 8 I need to answer. I try to do 1 or 2 a day whenever I feel like it, not stressing about it. Its a hobby, not an obligation. Its nice to write about my trip and relive it in my mind. I have gotten to know these ladies, their struggles and joys. Just like you all. Just a different mode of communication, but valid friendships for certain! Its interesting how simple things like creating my " homemade " stationery makes me happy. Picking the washi tape, choosing the stickers. If any of you have the magazine "Simple" sent to them, then send that puppy to me. Its one of the few magazines that use good quality paper, and I cut cool things out of them to decorate my envelopes. Also the magazines that show recipes and deals from "Whole Food" stores use good quality paper. I fold them into envelopes. I also save the durable plastic nacho chip bags for envelopes that are bigger. You could technically call me a textile artist using b paper etc!👍💖🙃
Some of my stickers, envelopes, and saved nacho chip bags.😁
Whatever you do, it should give you joy and put you in your happy place. Me with a pair of scissors, some great music on, and a big mug of coffee.💖

I skipped my dumbbells last night so I did them today. Yay!
Now I need to summon the energy to dye my hair. Tonight is likely my last chance this week before my sister gets here.

I agree just laying on the couch and listening to Top 40 cello piece as I read. Turns out the lower pitch cello is soothing to dogs, so Drewb is asleep on the floor by me.
I did buy a few new things at Kohl's. Nothing new for about a year. I got a pair of clearanece Vera Wang's for $4. My best buy. The rest were two shorts, some socks, and a nighty. All total $60.
Yesterday I went on a garden tour. First one in two years. Loved it. Will post pictures later.5 -
Good afternoon ladies!
I have two little does and a spike (buck) laying in the back yard next to some bushes like they own the place. I'll send Rosie out in a few minutes to show them who really owns the place, lol. We have a lot of trees back under the powerline where they'll head when she sounds the alarm. Hoping they left the tomatoes alone - I sprayed them with "Liquid Fence" but sometimes they taste the garden anyhow.
Annie - hoping your sister's visit goes well. Will be thinking of you!
Ginny - so glad your son lives close and will appreciate getting his dad's tools. Crossing fingers retests will show everything clear. I'm excited for you to retire and tell us about your next adventures!
Ladies in the UK- do you have your fans ready? Drink plenty of cold drinks and look at this photo of my back yard often:
I watched an interesting interview this morning with Dr. Robert Lustig. I've been a fan of his for years, he was a pioneer in the no-sugar realm (especially the dangers of fructose ... "high fructose corn syrup") he has several videos on YouTube and a book called "Fat Chance" which talks how fat was vilified for years when according to research, sugar was the culprit all along contributing to obesity, fatty liver, heart disease. Most fat in the diet was OK all along....;)
Anyhow, here's the link if anyone is interested. I learned a lot. A little over an hour long. I really was glad to see this as I've been back into sugary snacks lately. I didn't realize this about the fructose found in fruit: When you eat a piece of fruit, the body doesn't recognize the fructose however because of the 2 types of fiber than normally accompany it. But fruit juice and fruit in smoothies doesn't have the fiber structure found in a whole apple for example. This video has lots of little gems like that.

Have a great week!

Dh had a wonderful time at Contra Costa Comic-con
He really needed the day away from his mom, even if he did have to lie about going to work in order to have a day away.
He also hung out with Jon Provost(Lassie) and Charlotte Stewart(Ms. Beadle from Little House, but that isn't that big a deal, we go up and hang out with her and her husband at their house but was nice to see her-need to make some more cracker toffee for her when we go up next time.)
I went to church then went and made lunch for MIL- told her I couldn't stay because I needed to make lunch for my son, which I did- Tuna casserole for him, tomato, cucumber, bacon salad with rice vinegar dressing. Tired a 1/2 cup of his casserole- too much Velveeta but he loved it.
He and I washed my car and his truck together.
Going with a friend to the wetlands in a little bit.
A very relaxing day.
Off tomorrow but will go walk Kobe and then tomorrow night, Zumba
Maybe tomorrow I will declutter the living room which I was going to do this weekend but still haven't done it*(said the same thing last weekend)- with DH gone all the time, not in a hurry to get it done.
Have a great evening

Debbie Your DH met The Beaver! I’m glad he took time for himself! Also happy you two spent sometime together relaxing.

We *finally* got a little rain! Thank goodness too. It’s been awfully dry around here.
Do you see the rainbow?

Stat for the day-
Housecleaning etc- 3hrs 8min 57sec, vacuum, dust, water plants, change bedsheets, make hummingbird food, etc= 865c
Today was 108. Got my phone, returned it for the iPhone 13. Now it’s all set, supposed to have a longer battery life. Heading out for our walk at 6am to beat the heat. Supposed to be 77 at 6am4 -
Did some of the Biggest Loser the Workout DVD then part of a yoga DVD. Boy! Am I inflexible!
Vince’s leg was still bothering him, not getting any better, so I took him to the ER where he got IV antibiotic and prescriptions for 2 other antibiotics. Then Colby and I went to Lowes to get muriatic acid, pool salt (I could probably lift them but since he’s here….)and a rug liner for the new rug that we’re getting (throwing away the old one that Lexi pooped on so often), then WalMart to get the prescriptions and also pizza for dinner. I’ll have soup since I want to be sure there’s enough of the pizza for everyone. That’s just me. Besides, the soup doesn’t have near the calories that a piece of pizza has.
Went in the pool but it started to spritz, then stop, then spritz, then stop. Gave the new bushes a light watering. Put this fruit punch in the wasp traps, I was hoping it would smell sweeter, but we shall see how many bugs it catches compared to the apple juice
Leslie – kewl! They must have been excited when they found those items
Had to cancel the pool party since it will probably take multiple weeks for Vince’s leg to heal. I’m sad, but I understand.
Jess went back to Raleigh. She called to say that she got there and she asked “where’s Colby”. I think she was a bit wistful when we said “in the pool”
After dinner, cleaned the sunroom floor (where the rug was), ran Buzz, then walked to Food Lion to get some tortillas and cancel the cake for Sat. then used the Swiffer on the floor, took a shower, made up the bed, now here and then will go to bed.
Debbie – hope you enjoyed yourself at the wetlands. I’m sure you did
Work tomorrow
I have a dentist appt Wed. Then supposed to go bowling. Wonder how I can get out of it? I’m just not enjoying that league. I should not be feeling this way

two of the pictures from this evening- I have never seen a flock of egrets before- only one or two at a time.
The second is a killdeer and a baby- the baby is about the size of a walnut with toothpick legs- was right by us, the mom was chattering trying to distract us from seeing her little one.
Saw a jack rabbit as we were finishing up
Same large swan family as I saw Friday along with another one.
Weather was perfect. The breeze off the Napa river was great. I was a bit chilled when we first started but was fine the rest of the walk. 54 min. Hit my 10,000 steps right as we got to our cars
I can't wait to take dh and another friend over there to show them. I am hoping dh enjoys it and wants to walk more with me. Need to find something to do together. I need to try harder- he doesn't seem bothered by it but I am.

The heat has arrived. It is 67° at 5 am. We had a quick burst of rain in the night, which wasn't expected, so I had to shut the skylight. Then had to open it again. Short night. I have been awake since 5.
I think we are all waiting to see how the next two days go. I will make a spinach, pea and feta frittata this morning and cook the beans that are arrivng in our early delivery. That will be a nice cold dinner tonight. Chilled AF rosé. Which is actually pretty nice.
My yoghurt was a fail yesterday. The milk was not fresh enough in the heat, although it's in date. Oh well.
Thanks for the links, Lanette. I'm enjoying my new regime, although I can’t resist a bit of sugar last thing. I usually only have one caramel. Last night I also had some Icelandic liquorice. I don't count the dark chocolate I have (two squares) as that, according to Tim Spector, is a potent health food. My dessert was half a pear and some delicious blue, very mouldy, cheese. AF white wine. I'm loving not drinking. My main was broccoli, broad beans, peas, artichokes, scallions, garlic, in a homemade pesto sauce with parmesan. Four king prawns each. My base was shiritaki noodles. Tagliatelle for DH.
Wish me luck with the unaccustomed heat and no AC. I'm hoping the sea will keep our temperatures down compared to inland. Only two days of it, we think.
The wetlands look wonderful, Debbie.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Trying to get as much done as early as I can this morning, it's 70°F here already. I'm going over to mums in an hour or so to help her clear/sort out her spare bedroom. Need to get to the shops too to get a few bits and pay mums rent.
We took Leah for a longer walk early this morning around 6am which was quite enjoyable although by the time we were on the way home it was getting quite warm.
I have my fan at the ready, some soft drinks in the fridge, ice lolly's in the freezer, so DD and I will take it easy this afternoon.
Better get my exercise done, I'm trying to do some form of exercise at least 5 times a week, I still need to stop eating empty calories to get my weight down. The heat is helping and I haven't been reaching for as many biscuits, but trying to stick to mealtimes and not snacking all day/evening.
Take care and love to all.

Sue, ow! Hope your PT is as successful as mine has been
Pip aaauugggh! How frustrating! Like Carla I’d be lost without the calendar, contacts and reminders on my phone. No “wallet” stuff though Oooh Big Trees, is that at Calaveras Big Trees State Park?
Viv it is so hard to make yourself move when your knee hurts, but I keep hearing coach say “Motion is lotion.” Let us know how your mum’s TENS pen works, (fingers Xd.)
Heather inspiring bravery in your memoirs. Hooray for new shoes and walking pain free!
Ginny prayers for favorable scan results.
Allie Hooray for clear mammo!
Annie “…surely the military will close for a few days for the holidays…” SMH
Leslie your smiles say it all! Labradorite, thanks!
Rita “…not feeling it” a real tea snorter!
Debbie inspiring steps. Heart breaking for you and your DH, and even for your MIL. Surely no one is born wanting to be so very very mean. Psych evaluation for her and counseling (ambiguous grief?) for your DH sound very much in order. ((hugs)), prayers and keep us in your pocket. Bravissima for encouraging your DH to go to Contra Costa Con. Hope it gave him respite.
Rebecca ((hugs)) Thanks for sharing your caregiving support group experience. Hope Debbie can find one nearby at a convenient time. Bravissima for sharing your coping strategies with new Navy Moms. Lemonade How long has your sister lived there? Makes me feel less bad about some of our un-unpacked boxes from the last two moves
Carol bravissima for your tech success! Can the harsh cream be any worse than that cursed freeze gun?
Welcome @thutch7 Tracy!
Vicki yours to Debbie about her DH keeping everything inside . . . Exactly! Enjoy your ride!
Michele hope Vince’s leg pain eases soon.

🔥 🔥 🔥 We’re under an extreme heat advisory for the next few days. This is a first for UK. I changed our beds this morning and I’m like a wet rag. The whole of Northern Europe is sweltering. 😥 😰 😮💨
I an sitting in the shade in the garden but will go and hang the bedding then go indoors to prepare a cold lunch. We are planning to stay out of the sun and have chilled water at the ready.5 -
Happy Monday all! Like most of the rest of you, I am getting ready for high temps and high humidity. I washed and changed bedding yesterday. I have my hot weather clothes pulled to the front of my closet. For me, hot weather clothes would be tank tops, swim tank tops, midi sundresses, boy short undies (super helpful with chafing), capri length yoga pants (with pockets). I have water activities planned for the kids all week. We aren't expecting any rain until next weekend. I try not to complain about the heat and humidity; though, I do get a bit crabby when I am hot AND sticky. But, I feel very bad for my daughter in Texas, dealing with above 100 temps the past month or more. She is stuck inside with three loud and rambunctious boys. She sent me video this morning of all three boys. The two oldest were jumping, running, singing, laughing, shouting in the living room; and baby Javi was crawling after them squealing his baby squeal as if to say, "Hey! I am in on the fun!" lol Pretty sure she and my son in law will be waiting a while before adding to the family. Chaos contained.
Oooops! Kids arriving! Gotta fly. ttfn xoxo KJ7 -
5:02am PST and it’s 75 already. Supposed to be 106 again. Going to take yogi out for our walk at 6 so we can beat the heat again. Got my .other new phone again. Kirby went to the mall to go pick it up this time. The other phone was still showing that it had not completed the download from the iCloud. This phone is supposed to have a longer battery life.5

Hot weather, ugh. When we bought this house, we had to replace the furnace so we added a heat pump at the same time. The heat pump is like an air conditioner in hot weather. We tightened our financial belt and made hefty monthly payments on an interest free loan to for three years to pay for it, but I am so grateful for it even on medium hot days. We had no heat pump in our last house and we were miserable when the temps got high.
I was surprised by rain when I took Bessie out at midnight. The rain didn't last long and it's clear again this morning.
I haven't been to the eye doctor in too many years and my eyes are doing something weird so I'll be calling first thing this morning for an appointment.

Terri, I'm sure you already know this, but if it isn't too humid, fans would help with evaporation/cooling. So sorry you are facing the UK heat wave with no a/c.

It’s hot and humid here but at least we we have AC. I know AC is not usually something needed in the UK. Stay safe out there!! We had 100% chance of rain yesterday when I went for my walk. Was sad it was only a light sprinkling that dried up as soon as the drops hit and roads never got wet. Oh well… drought continues. I think I’ll do indoor elliptical and yoga dvd this morning. Better get to it.1
