Hello everyone. I just joined MFP today after a call from my doctor. Apparently I have two (2!) ventral hernias that need surgical repair. Aside from the medical need, when I look at my abdomen, I get a flashback to "Alien" to the scene right before the creature burst out from the guys abdomen. I mean it sticks out.
I was told very kindly that I was not able to have surgery because I was too overweight, and that while the hernia sites could be repaired, it wouldn't last, because my BMI was too high. My doc said that I would have to lose 35 pounds before the surgery would be scheduled. Then he told me that his nurse would be contacting me with some calorie lists, and that I should call back to schedule surgery when I had lost the weight. By the way, he also said the hernias were "fat-filled".
So after staring blankly at the office wall for a while, I decided to join MFP and get serious about dropping weight, and actually learning how to keep it off. I admit it. I am a procrastinator and rather lazy. But I'm also a realist. This is not just aesthetics, this is a serious medical problem that needs to be dealt with. So I need to learn how to eat properly and increase my activity so I can qualify for my surgery. So here I go. Thanks for any good thoughts or comments.2 -
So this app definitely works but it's not a magical solution...the input and the efforts are 100% on you and the app is only tracking that! You'll definitely meet amazing people....how do I know? I used MFP till the pandemic hit then all bets were off and my eating pattern became compulsive again. Back and motivated and hoping to meet like minded buddies. Feel free to add me 🌸🌷🌸🌷2

Hello everyone! My name is Melissa. I had VSG on 8/23/22 and have lost 6lbs to date. I feel really good, I am moving more and I love that but I am not losing. I feel like recording what I eat and having VSG friends or the like to help me with tips, tricks, and most of all accountability, I will see progress.0

Hi Melissa! I had VSG on 8/24/22! Just one day after you! Nice to meet you! Since the surgery, I have only lost 53.4 pounds so DO NOT come down on yourself, you've lost significantly more than me and I think I'm losing at a good rate. Especially when you consider all of the exercise I'm doing now - 45 minutes every day on the treadmill and full body strength training with dumbbells 3 x week. At first I was disappointed with the small weight loss, but then my husband an dad told me that I'm converting my fat into muscle. My dietician suggested that I take my measurements once a month (chest at the breast line, chest just below the breasts, waist, upper-mid thigh, and bicep. Do this only once a month (I calendar mine so I don't forget and so I don't do it sooner) and you'll be pleased with the results. The scale is only one part of the tools you need to track yourself. Hope this helps!1 -
Hello! I am also new to the community but I have used this app for a while now. I was wondering why I am not able to add any new foods?0

Hi Everyone,
Just starting my journey today. I’m nervous because I have a hard time staying motivated because of health issues. But I’m telling myself I’ll feel better by taking control of my nutrition and fitness. I’ll be needing loads of support and inspiration! I’m so glad to be here.3 -
Hey everyone. 👋 I'm helen this is my second attempt at using my fitness pal. First time I did really well but then circumstances got in the way! I've ended up putting on quite a bit of weight. My goal in total is to lose 4 stone, hopefully shift atleast 1stone 7lbs before Xmas! I have left leg paralysis due to a back problem so my workouts are limited to just walking and crosstrainer, with a small amount of weight work. Always looking to make new friends . Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there!
I am Tracy and I will soon be 63.
I have been obese since I was 11yo. I am in need of two knee replacements and I have to get my weight down to qualify. My knees are so bad that I walk with at least one and sometimes two canes.
Since I don't want to be in a wheelchair and want to be more active, I made the commitment to do whatever I could to get healthy and stay that way.
I look forward to being part of the community and making life better with all of you!❤4 -

Hey there. Wishing you the best in your journey. Just remember that your worth it and can do anything you put your mind too. Start loving the things you hate. I used to hate doing burpees and now im loving them. If you hate missing out on foods you love do a bit more exercise and earn the calories to eat them first. Every small thing adds up. Protein really helps with hunger. Feel free to add me if you like. Wishing you the best!!1 -
