Just wanted to see today whether I'm able to run again. Recovering from Covid, testing negative for 2 days and I'm kind of allowed to break isolation now. Still fuming. Got it not from traveling, not from meeting people (that all tested beforehand), but due to providing first aid to a drunk, sick guy who didn't want first aid. Just a very slow trot once around the block today basically and it went ok. I noticed I'm still not quite ok. Running was fine, but I was sweating a lot more than usual. As in: rivers of sweat. but it was good to get outside and just move a bit again.5 -
@yirara That sucks! Sounds like you're on the mend. Take it easy as you get back to running.
@tarun_yadavA Doing great this year!1 -

Plan was for 4 miles recovery but when the alarm went off I just didn't want to do it. So, turned the alarm off and slept another hour until the sun woke me. When I woke up, I still didn't want to do it. Instead I made a cup of coffee and sat on my front porch.
I found a stream of the Berlin marathon, had some breakfast and another cup of coffee. First, a new marathon WR for Kipchoge! Dude is amazing! And Assefa shaving 18 mins off her PB to win the women's race was so cool. She came out of nowhere!
Anyway, by then it was 10am and getting hot but I was finally ready to go but still not in the mood for even 4 miles. So I decided to just do what I wanted, which was 2 miles. Short, quick, close to home so I could stay off the steep hills. Just getting something on the books and having some recovery before speed work tomorrow. It was a good run, worked out a little stiffness.6 -

@martaindale awww thanks Sarah 😊1 -
end of month question?
Share a story, tid-bit, or pic that isn't running related!
I found this one really hard because I find it very difficult to 'share'. I actually went outside and looked for Kermit, Gizmo, Robin and/or Gidget (frogs I have named that live in my plants). They were not available for photo op today, so I went on to my elephant pen. Some of you know or have seen my typing about elephant herding. I heard elephants two times a year and we are coming up to migration time to the winter housing.
This is the pen from the top of the deck
This is inside the pen
These are some of the smaller ones and there are hundreds all around my property.
This is my 3 year old poinsettia, over 5ft tall now.
This is a stray cat, I dubbed Skittles. He makes my Mom smile so I feed him to keep him coming back.

I woke up early enough this morning, but I still didn't get out until 7:53. It was 72° F at the start and partly cloudy so the sun wasn't too much and it wasn't too hot. I ran 10.25 miles and by the time I was done it was 83° and the sun had broken through the clouds so it was getting pretty warm. My pace was 11:29 and I ran just over 10 miles in 1:57:49. So just about 4 minutes faster than Eliuid Kipchoge ran the Berlin Marathon.🤣

I was in NJ for work for a few days - near Princeton. The weather was lovely and much cooler, and I managed to actually get out and run 3 of the 4 days. I was pleased with myself for that and it was a nice change of pace to run somewhere new. The grounds of the conference center were lovely with a ton of deer.
I really needed to run more because I was also eating constantly. They fed us very well at this meeting with breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, plus snacks out all the time. I also stopped at the Lindt chocolate store in Princeton so I brought home a big bag of assorted truffles.
I didn't run yesterday with the drive home, but I ran 5 today. Very nice cool morning. This week looks like a full schedule so I don't have high hopes for a lot of running.5 -

Morning all. If yesterday in London was Beautiful... Today absolutely isn't. Got in 5 though

Saturday I went out for about 10k, through that dirt road where people dump trash, and past the swan ponds and fishing spot. It appears that people are now also dumping cats back there 😡I couldn't do anything for this little one. Shelter doesn't take cats, this one was meowing at me like he wanted help but also wouldn't let me get close to him. Social media is full of people looking for homes for cats. Hopefully he'll learn to hunt/forage quickly.
Hmm, pictures aren't cooperating.
Today I woke up feeling normal and ran a different 10k route. Pushed in the last mile to actually finish with an overall pace that MFP recognizes as not "running in place", LOL. And then Strava informed me that I have passed the 100k mark for the month, which I haven't done since May. I did the short strength workout as planned (week 2 day 1). It's now afternoon and after a trip to the store and tea/coffee with husband, I feel some tiredness coming back, but hey, baby steps.5 -
@kgirlhart Waffles in his little hat is ADORABLE!!
@AlphaHowls Skittles is super cute! I can see why your mom likes him.
@polskagirl01 Congrats on hitting 100k this month. You're doing great on the road to recovery! And, another cat!! So many cute cat pics today. I hope this little stray ends up finding a place.2 -

Today, I tried the workouts function on my garmin for the first time. My plan called for 8x600 m repeats with 400 m recovery and a warm up / cool down. At home I have a pond loop that is 400 m so I usually do interval workouts with a manual lap, but I don't have access to that here so this seemed like a good chance to try out a function I've never used. Building the workout was really easy. I really liked that you could put in a pace target range for the intervals. Now to the run.
I went to the dam to do this workout as it is the only completely flat place in this area. The dam is 0.8 mi across, so plenty of distance to run without having to turn around too frequently. Here is the view just after I arrived and the sun was coming up.
I ran the length of the dam for my warm up. My first interval was pretty close, but my watch was giving me a lot of pace too slow or too fast alarms. The next two were too slow by several seconds, but again my watch kept telling me that my Pace was too fast. The fourth through 8th intervals were basically spot on. I think it took a couple laps across the dam for the tracking to get a bit more accurate. I stopped getting pace alerts on my watch during these last ones. So, even though some of the early intervals were off target, I think that was mostly due to my watch struggling with the real time pacing rather than me struggling to hit pace.
Those intervals were tough. Most of my previous plans have used 400 m intervals or longer repeats, like mile. I'm not sure if I see 600 m repeats again during this plan. I think it goes up to 800 m next week and eventually to even longer ones as I progress further into training.4 -

I met a friend for 5 miles this morning. We met at a different place and changed up the route a bit. She ran a half marathon yesterday and warned me she would be slower. We only stopped to walk a couple of times though. It was a nice cool 53F but humid with low-hanging fog.
Congratulations to your brother for his award @Scott6255. So cool that they flew you in to be a part of the celebration!
Good to see you @swenson19d. Cute socks and beautiful viola. Jeremy hasn’t posted in this group for a couple of years now. Hope he is doing ok.
Love the flower pictures @martaindale and that is one rocky trail! That’s a beautiful view from your porch.
Hope you are feeling better @yirara.
I had completely forgotten about your elephants @AlphaHowls! Skittles is cute!
Oh @polskagirl01 – that little kitty looks so sad. I don’t know how people can dump animals like that.
My non-running related pictures below:
Working from home on my front porch with my kitty keeping me company.
The stray cat that I've been feeding for over a year. I guess he has made himself at home. He doesn't like to be petted. I can pet him when I feed him but he slinks down and clearly doesn't like it, so I usually just let him be.5 -
Beautiful non-running photos @Teresa502 ! Love the porch and the porch protectors! I am envious of your yard. It is still green and the hills/mounds. Which state/country are you in?

I'm in the southwestern part of Virginia. Very close to Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. Not too far from @quilteryoyo!2 -
I am loving all the non-running pictures!
@AlphaHowls - love your elephant herd! I have never been able to keep a poinsettia alive. I suspect it is just too warm here and I think they like it when it gets cold. Skittles is a cutie!
@kgirlhart - great pictures of your family and I love Waffles!
@martaindale - Love the view from your porch! I would be sitting out there all day!
@Teresa502 - Love your porch too and the kitties look so happy just hanging out there!
@katharmonic - Princeton is such a beautiful area! I think would be a great place to run!
@polskagirl01 - great job on getting to 100k. I hope you continue to feel stronger and stronger even though you still get tired. Baby steps are definitely the way to go!
I don't recall when I last updated my run mileage but I have been running. Got my covid booster last Tuesday and it knocked me down a bit but doing fine now. I am close to hitting the 100 mile club again but it is a busy and very hot (again!) week. So we'll see...

Morning all 😊
9k today!

Loving all the cat pics (even tho I'm not really a cat person).
6.2 miles this morning. Did a little bit of speed work today. 8 x 0.5 at threshold pace with 3 minute recovery was the plan, but I didn't use the training workout on my watch, just did it by feel. I think it ended up about the same. The pleasant 64F weather helped.

I know I'm not yet quite recovered from covid but running went very, very well. No idea why but I was able to run with such a slow breathing as I've not done in a very, very long time. Maybe covid messed up my lungs in a positive way5
