Good morning everybody! 😊
Me done!

Nice that you got to run in another country @martaindale.
6 miles this morning. Oh Lord, this was miserable. Slower than recovery pace, but felt harder than a speed day. Left ankle was (is) hurting, both shins hurt. Finally after 4 miles everything started to feel mildly better. Such a waste of a beautiful morning.

5 miles at 5 am done. Easy pace and the temperature was a nice 53F.
@Scott6255 - Sorry for your not so great run but I had to laugh at the "waste of a beautiful morning" comment!
Congratulations on your new grandbaby @quilteryoyo!
Nice job getting a run in while out of the country on vacation @martaindale!
Great running everyone!2 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »@katharmonic Great job in letting your friend sucker you into running further than intended. You are doing great and sounds like she is also. I'll try the pictures again this morning, but my internet is being finicky again today.
Nice job getting in your 20 mile run @marisap2010 . When is your race?
You did great getting in your run @shanaber . Also glad the bathroom was available with cool water. You are doing great. Thanks for the RTY update.
Congratulations @7lenny7 ! It's awesome that you beat Courtney. I hope you recover quickly and am looking forward to your race report.
@polskagirl01 Oh no! That watch shows how bad the fall was. I hope everything is only minor injuries and heals quickly.
Looks like a nice vacation, even if you had to deal with a lot of drama @eleanorhawkins . Love the pictures. I would be concerned about the boar, but glad all you have to do is make noise to scare them away.
@tarun_yadavA Great run and it pays to take a couple of days off now and then.
Nice getting in a treadmill walk @Teresa502 ! I may have to look into getting tickets to Rhythm and Roots next year.
Here is a try at the pictures. Yeah, it worked! Darn internet issues.
Me and baby boy Koskovich. They haven't named him yet.
Mom and the baby.

Further away for a better size perspective. It is probably about 3 - 4 inches across, so not small.

Congratulations on your Grandchild!! 😊1 -
Oh I missed that @quilteryoyo has a new grandchild. Congratulations!! That is a big baby1

Congratulations @quilteryoyo!
@Scott6255 sorry for your waste of a beautiful morning. Hopefully your next run will be amazing.
Tuesday Track Day - this week two faster girls came, and I managed to keep up all until the very last lap. My daughter came along as well, and did her own version of intervals (running and sitting/waiting for us to come back around) and did a great job. She's very excited about the new gym teacher and girls-only gym classes at school, so she was showing us the stretches they learned. We invited the guys to come next week too.
Needless to say, even their out-of-shape easy pace was a challenge to me. I'm wiped out, but in a good way.8 -

Oh! Ooops. Well congratulations, nonetheless. "It takes a village to raise..." And all that lol2 -
Morning all. My daily run done

Oh, just realised why my local park has been shut for the last 2 days...
A friend just whatsapped me this after he saw my run and my comment
Buckingham Palace/Westminster Abbey is like, 6+M away!
There are gonna be that many people queueing!? Wow 😮

@tarun_yadavA wow, that is a long line! It says a lot about how much people respected the Queen.
I did 7 miles this morning. Another relatively cool morning at 68F, and dew point was 57. Felt better today. Wore an ankle brace, started the first mile with baby steps which made the ankle and shins not hurt very much. Then gradually increased stride length to (almost) normal. Even threw in a few fartleks and it felt pretty good. But after I took a shower, the outside edge of my left foot (where I was wearing the ankle brace) feels really sore. Ugh, just can't catch a break.

I ran 6 miles this morning. Temp was just a few degrees warmer than yesterday morning but at 57F, I'm loving it! For some reason there were a lot of random people out on the street at 5:00 am. The two friends that I ran with were doing some walk/run so when I got too far ahead of them I would just loop back to where they were. I ended up with a little over 5 1/2 miles so I just had to go a little further in the parking lot to round it up to 6 miles.5

@Scott6255 well done on the 7M ! 🙌1 -
@tarun_yadavA - I heard on the news here that they are expecting 750K people -so yes the queue will be long!
Also @quilteryoyo had 2 babies born... the one in the pictures was her neighbor's baby and her step-daughter also had a new baby but in Florida...
@Scott6255 - I hope your ankle feels better!
@polskagirl01 - you'll get back to that level of fitness again. I think you are doing great and I am so glad you are feeling better overall! That is great that your daughter is excited about running with you and her new gym teacher!3 -

Hey, it's nice to have a run where most things somehow worked out. This one was odd: my HR was about 10bom lower than on all previous runs. Unfortunately, the HR where my breathing gets faster, presumably around the lactate threshold was also about 10bpm lower. Bummer. But I think I could have ran on a bit more. I was just getting bored by this super slow running. Oh, back from vacation, and it's clearly cooler here. Will only manage to do one more run tomorrow, and then I'm off again for a long weekend event.3 -
Run felt short today, even though it was 6-something km. I didn't pay much attention to pace, ran/walked when I wanted, at an easy-ish pace. I did have to take a nap mid-day, but overall I'm feeling ok 🙂
Lots of green. And an interesting dead wasp.4 -
I wanted to mention in case anyone else is into minimal (0-drop) shoes that Xero Shoes is having a big fall sale. Some models and colors are up to 70% off. I got 2 pairs (one the model I already have, different color and the other a model I wanted to try) for $27/ea! They also have sandals, running sandals and other shoes. I have the HFS and love them.
I got out for a run this morning with great expectations. It was beautiful out and so much cooler than it has been. Unfortunately my stomach decided it was not a good day to run. Even after a stop at the trail bathrooms it was complaining. Thought I could get it to settle, or I could run through it but that didn't workout so well so I just walked on home. Of course I feel fine now 🤷🏻♀️
Tonight we are going back to the Hollywood Bowl, no rain planned 😂 but it will be a late night so I may or may not get out for a run tomorrow.

I was too tired to post last night, but I had a great run yesterday. It was a little warmer than Sunday and Monday, but still very pleasant at about 72°F with a dew point of 59°. I felt like I could run forever. I love those runs. I saw the funniest thing. There was a cat sitting on a curb and a few feet away there was a skunk. They didn't seem to mind each other at all. The skunk was busy rooting around for bugs and the cat was just sitting there. I have noticed that cats like to loiter but skunks are always busy. Then I realized that the cat was also black and white and I thought of the cartoon where PePe LePew thinks the cat is a skunk and falls in love. I just burst out laughing. I am glad no one was around. They would have thought that I was crazy.
Today I ran the same 5.5 miles as yesterday. It was a good run, but not as awesome as yesterday. I did have new shoes though. And I got a new water bottle to replace the one with the leaky lid.

Good morning all.
Me done!

@kgirlhart I laughed at your skunk and cat story, AND at you laughing while thinking about it while running 😁 I have seen, heard, or thought of something funny on the run too, and there were people around to see it. I just tell myself they must want to know what I'm listening to on my earbuds!5

Today’s run was monumental because… I got to wear a shirt!!! First run with a shirt officially marks the beginning of fall temps. For the next few weeks it will still bump up into sports bra only temps from time to time, but that first shirt run always makes me feel like fall is here. I also tried out some new lights this morning. I bought some small LEDs that have a magnetic flap that I can attach to whatever clothing so I can avoid a headlamp. I have run with a headlamp a few times and I just don’t like it. I get so sweaty under the band and I can see the bounce of the light, which annoys me. The sun is coming up just late enough that I am back to running in the dark several days a week. I have routes that are pretty well lit but with the longer runs starting this month, having lights gives me back the forest trails that are unlit so I have more options for easily adding on distance in the neighborhood. Anyway, these lights are really good! They cast a wide beam so I don’t see the bounce, they are lightweight, and they have a low and high beam so I can adjust the brightness. Big fan. I also ordered a nox vest, mostly for the hill country, but it hasn’t come in yet. Getting ready for all the dark running!!
This is the last week of the intro period for my marathon plan. Speed work and tempo runs start next week along with a tick up in mileage. I have started mixing in some strides here and there to remind my legs what running faster feels like. Honestly, a little nervous about having to hit paces again for the first time in several months. But, with the cooler weather rolling in, I’m sure it will be ok. Just got to get a couple under my belt.7 -
@polskagirl01 I love tree lined paths like that one in your picture! Idk why but they feel different. Beautiful!
@quilteryoyo Congrats on the grandbaby!
@scott6255 Sorry to hear your ankle is bothering you. Do you know what caused it or just random pains? Hope it doesn’t become a recurring issue.

@martaindale your lights sound cool! I am also having to pull my headlamp out again in the mornings, and have similar issues with it. I learned to wear a buff/headband underneath it but the bounce still annoys me, and on long runs there comes a time when anything on my head starts to irritate me, but if I take it off then I have to put it somewhere and theres never space for it in my pockets/pack so it ends up on my arm, but then that gets annoying too. I vaguely remember one of the reasons I chose the one I did was it could be attached to a harness/chest strap thing. Maybe I'll look into that. Probably won't solve the bounce though.
Tomorrow is meant to be my 29km (18ish miles) which at my current pace and on the route I've planned is likely to take me way over 4 hours. Yikes. Of course, I had a massage yesterday and the IT band I told the evil physio wasn't bothering me any more is sore today. Typical!3 -

Hey, that was fun today. Running programme had me do warmup, and then fast/slow intervals of 2min, 4min, 3min, 2min, 2min with cooldown to end. Managed to do actually quite fast intervals and pull through to the end in all of them. Still super slow running overall, but faster than the past many months. Hope I'll get another run in on Sunday.5 -
@martaindale I like that spot, too. I might even have pictures from all of the seasons. That particular area is between a prison and the shady high-security animal shelter that told me they "don't need volunteers" 😆. So it feels different in other ways. But the road between them is cool.
@eleanorhawkins and others RE: lights - I've also taken the straps off of a headlamp and attached it right to the strap on the front of my pack. That worked pretty well. If I remember, I'll take a picture tomorrow because it's kind of hard to explain.1 -
I saw this today and my 1st thought was I want this... until I saw the price!😳

Wowza! That is some price tag for a watch that will still have to be charged every couple of days. I don't dwell in the apple universe but I'm guessing this is a significant improvement over a regular apple watch. I have heard complaints about an apple watch having trouble tracking an entire marathon so 18 hrs of GPS is a step up. I guess if you have the $$ and you are heavily invested in keeping products consistent, it's an option for having your fitness tracker be the same brand. It's certainly tougher than your run of the mill apple watch. But, I'll stick with my garmin, which looks downright affordable by comparison!!3 -
I ran 5 miles this morning at a pace that was about 20 seconds faster per mile than when I ran the same route on Tuesday. It was another beautiful morning with the temperature at 52F.
@shanaber – Thank you so much for the heads-up on the Xero Shoes! One of my hiking friends has a pair of the sandals for wearing around camp and I’ve been so envious because they are so light weight. Great sale price so I ordered me a pair.
@polskagirl01 – I would love to run on that tree lined lane. Beautiful!
@kgirlhart – Funny skunk/cat story. We say an albino skunk on our run this morning! We gave it a wide berth. Nice shoes!
I don’t like to run with a headlamp either @martaindale. I have a rechargeable light that I can attach to my waist pack or reflective vest. What brand did you get? I use the Amphipod Versa-Light Max USB Safety Light.
Good luck with your long run tomorrow @eleanorhawkins.
