My treadmill uses ifit for guided runs. I just got it earlier this summer and have really liked them. Treadmill runs can be such a grind but I have found the guided runs really enjoyable.
@kgirlhart - Congratulations on maintaining your weight loss! Such an amazing transformation!!
@marisap2010 - I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
@polskagirl01 I hope track Tuesdays continue to be successful! And I'm glad to hear you have been feeling better.
I don't have a treadmill at home but my work has a gym so this winter I plan on using it. It would be awesome if their treadmills have this.
I do have bike and trainer, I plan on utilizing this winter as well, I have used Zwift in the past for that but don't use it enough to justify the $20 a month to continue paying for it.
Most defiantly when stationary it's always better to be able to feel like we are surrounded by others.3 -

Another idea is to just set up your phone or tv where you can watch videos while treadmill running. Mine has a little "shelf" for a tablet or phone (and a tablet also covers the display, which I like when I'm running for time).
Youtube even has videos of people running trails or other fun locations. We even had someone here who was "running" different countries via those types of videos.
Rest day for me today. I need it!
I never thought to look on YouTub! Thank you so much for this information, I will have to look into it!1 -

Yes, this is what I have done. It makes a HUGE difference. Almost make the treadmill half-way enjoyable.
6.25 miles this morning. Got up late so it was already quite hot, and the bright shiny sun didn't help. Was supposed to be a threshold run, but I could only manage a negative split run, finishing the last mile at race pace.
"Half-way enjoyable" sounds about right.4 -
My friends and I dedicated our run this morning to Eliza Fletcher. We prayed for her family and then joined the “Finish Liza’s Run” to honor her memory. The temp this morning was a nice 59F, the moon bright and the stars were shining. This morning’s 5.59 miles brings my monthly total to 27.82 miles.
@yirara – So sorry about your ankle. I hope that it is well on the path to healing.
Glad you are enjoying your nights out @tarun_yadavA but are still pounding the pavement in the mornings! Balance right?
Love the animal counts @kgirlhart!

Good morning all.
Managed another 4. But will be resting up this weekend for sure!
Second night out in a row last night. That's me socialising/drinking for a good 6-8 weeks now!
Nice 6.5% West Coast IPA, which went down a treat with these guys. (Even told the lady to forget bringing the celery with it! 😂 )
Have a lovely weekend everybody 😊

Accompanied kid to school, her on bike, me running, then continued on by myself for about 10k of run/walk intervals (mostly 3 min run / 90 sec walk, with more walking towards the end). Just ran out of steam. Got home and ate a whole tin of sardines and had a protein drink, still feel like I need something else, maybe I'll grab a vitamin drink before lunch. At least I am craving things with nutrients other than sugar 😆
Although @tarun_yadavA 's food looks good...9 -

This was my 6th consecutive day running and I could tell my legs are tired. It was the coolest morning we have had since before summer at a brisk 70F! Fall is coming!! I went to the trail for a much needed break from the concrete. It has been raining here most afternoons/evenings for over a week so I was giving it a chance to dry out a bit. We got some sprinkles a couple of days ago but I figured it would be ok today, and it was great! It’s single track and the grass along the trail has enjoyed the rain. It is quite long and encroaching a lot and my feet got wet just from the dew off the grass. I hope the county gets out there 1 more time before fall and cuts it back so it doesn’t get out of hand. Last year, there was a point where it got so overgrown that I didn’t feel safe running because I couldn’t see where my feet were landing and I didn’t want to risk an injured ankle. There are obviously snakes out there but my trail friend walks early every morning with his dogs so they tend to scare anything off before I come through. Speaking of which, I saw my trail friend and his dog, Hank. And his new girlfriend and her dog Casper, who looks like some sort of poodle mix.
Leaving tomorrow to visit my friend in Puerto Rico. We have a day hike planned that looks like a beautiful spot. I’ll make sure to take a few pictures.5 -
Have fun in Puerto Rico @martaindale!0

@martaindale have fun in Puerto Rico! I can't wait to see some pictures.
Does anyone have any recommendations on good running shoes? I love my Mizuno Infinity Waves but I can't seem to keep them from slipping on my heal. It seams the last 4 or 5 pairs I have had are doing this. I have tied them so tight that my feet fall asleep and they still slip. It's not a lot just enough to be uncomfortable.
Last night it hurt to much to walk because of the blisters, I made it a quarter of a mile before I gave in to the pain. Today I did get a short mile in but by the end I was waddling. Any recommendations would be accepted in helping these blisters go away.
On a better note, I have not had any alcohol since Monday. Last night I was spot on with my calorie intake. We have the high school football game tonight so it will be a late night with no walk in.

@lou2you2 - running shoes are such a personal preference because everyone's foot and gait is different. Do you have a running store near you where you can try on different shoes? I personally like the Brooks Ghosts but I have a wide foot and they fit my foot good.
I second all of this! It's so helpful to feel the shoes on your own feet. A running store can also do a gait analysis and make suggestions.3 -

We do but it's a small selection and but needed a recommendation of where to start looking. We also have a running store but their recommendations were spot on to what I have already.
I can't get myself to buy running shoes unless I have tried them on. I was just curious if anyone else had some suggestions.
Or if anyone knows a good way to keep the heal from slipping that would be awesome.
Thank you @teresa502 and @polskagirl01

@lou2you2 - do you use the runner's loop when you tie your shoes? Also called the heel lock. Basically uses the (usually unused) last hole. Many videos on web but here is one link https://youtu.be/RKdSqlFszG42

Thank you for this, I will have to try it. I have heard of it but completely forgot it was a think.
Thanks again!1 -
Hey all! I'm in for 153.6 miles this month. Why not-so-round number? It's the minimum I need to have my highest September total ever.
I'll catch up with you all more next week, including the 50k race report I still owe you from July (75% written since mid July...how lame of me!).
Tomorrow is my main race of the year, the Superior Fall 50M race on the brutal, rugged Superior Hiking Trail in northeastern Minnesota. Race starts at 5:15am and I'm just making last minute preparations, and drinking a last minute beer, before heading to bed.7 -
Flat Pat ready to go! The weather looks really nice tomorrow with 50F at the start, upper 60s for the high. It rained all day today though so I expect plenty of mud.

If you bought those based on the rec from the running store, you should be able to take them back and try something else. They don't want you to be in pain!
I prefer Brooks personally. I tried Asics and found they hit my Achilles in a weird way that hurts, and I tried Mizuno and just didn't like them. I've gone from the Brooks Adrenaline to the Glycerin, deviated to the Ghost and hated them, then to the Levitate. I know I'm going to need shoes in the next couple of months and am kind of dreading the process because while I love Brooks, they seem to change their sizing and fit with every new model so they're not really consistent.
Now I'm considering Hokas because my goal is to do longer distances, but truthfully, I hate the majority of their colors.
The other thing to take a look at are your socks. I never thought socks would make a big difference and then I bought some Feetures Merino and OMG they're the best for my feet. Like shoes, I think socks are trial and error because everyone has different preferences. I guard my running socks like a crazy woman because my boys seem to like to borrow them.
I'm almost 55 and I think younger people can get away with bad shoes and socks and be fine. At my age, I need to make sure my shoes and socks are helping protect me from injury.
On another note, for running here, we had a bad run on Thursday. My 10 year old apparently had a rough day at school and was crabby and just wanted to walk so I was trying to run up and back to her, but it was just a mess. We did 3ish pretty miserable miles. I had to tell her that everyone has a bad run and you just get back out and do it again. Today should be a run day, but we're going to King's Dominion so I'm not running then going out to walk 5 miles. I'll run tomorrow by myself and hope for a good one.
Every other Sunday morning, I do SAG for our half marathon training team and that gets me in the mood to run.

great note about the socks! definitely make a huge difference. I love my nikes but they change the brands and styles up so fast and the materials do not last as long as I would like either. The great thing is that you can send them back for up to 30 days with a complete refund so you are only out the shipping which means you can put a few runs in on a new style to see if you are really going to click or not.
46.5 total for the month not including today out of 120 stretch goal.. Starting out a much better month and hoping the temps will be in the 60's more often now.
Just a note for you in the dark runners as it's getting that time of year. I found some great "rechargeable" flashing lights to use this year - lightweight and very bright. So if you are running early take a look for them on amazon - not pricey and definitely worth it.

I'm trying to catch up on the thread after being off for a few days due to my schedule and the internet being crazy again. You all are doing great with your running.
@yirara I'm glad your ankle is healing quickly. Sorry that it happened in the first place. Take it easy so you don't reinjure it.
@tarun_yadavA You did great to get out for a run on Thursday and Friday when you weren't feeling like it. I'm with you, I would have gone for the wings and blue cheese. Glad London is getting rain. Sorry to hear about Queen Elizabeth's death. The wings look delicious...I forego the celery too.
@lou2you2 So glad that your daughter runs with you.
@martaindale I do hope they mow along your trail before it gets out of hand. Enjoy Puerto Rico. Looking forward to seeing pictures from your hike.
Glad to see you back @7lenny7 ! I have been wondering how you were doing. By now, you are in the middle of your race. I hope it goes well.2 -
14 miles this morning. I jumped ahead a week in my plan because I am playing golf next Saturday, so wanted to get that mileage on the books. Luckily it was about 10 degrees cooler than normal. I took 2 GUs also. I normally only use 1 on any long run, but need to get used to taking in more, and more often. It really wasn't too bad, and pace was faster than I expected.

I headed out for a route that I thought was longer than 10k, but I must've remembered it wrong and it was actually 9.4-something. I made up my own intervals as I went, and managed to run for longer than I have been doing lately, which was nice.8
-
07.09 Wed 24°C 4.2km 38min
10.09 Sat 23°C 6.0km 54min
total: 10.19km
Hmm... my HR has come up again due to not running much this month, but heck, this felt so much better than all the super low HR running described by sports doctor Ankle is... well, I climbed the top to a mountain yesterday. Apparently that wasn't the best thing to do. But it was still a great walk.5 -
@yirara I’m sorry about your ankle! I hope it heals quickly.
@martaindale Have a great trip!!!
@7lenny7 I was wondering where you’ve been and when we would get that race report! I hope your race today went great!
On Thursday evening I completed a foundation run for 3.7 miles. Yesterday morning, I completed my "Finish Eliza's Run" doing intervals for 2.3 miles before work. I'll do a recovery run/walk tonight, and tomorrow I have my "Marathon Simulator." 16 of the miles are supposed to be at marathon pace, with warm up and cool down. Because of the drastic difference in temp and humidity between Georgia now and Upstate NY in October for the race, I don't know if I'll be able to keep up my planned pace for the whole time, but I will do my best without trying to overdo it.6
