@eleanorhawkins congratulations on your race! That's pretty bada$$ to just decide last minute to go ahead and run a tough race, and then shave off time from last year. Impressive time too for such a technical race especially! Wow.

I ran today, but only 20 minutes because my friend bailed on me and I struggled to get out the door on my own. But happy that I at least got that done, and I walked the dog another hour. I went into work so I still haven't caught up on the spreadsheet.

I had a really good run this morning. I was kind of nervous about it. Yesterday I walked a mile for my September streak and my toe was hurting. So I had already decided that if it hurt this morning I would just walk and see how it was. But it didn't hurt at all today. I think I have a little arthritis in a couple of my toes so that was probably the problem.

I didn't get up early but it wasn't too hot. 74°F at the start and 81°F feels like 85° at the end and a little less humid than it has been. So it was pretty pleasant for early September and I really enjoyed it. I saw a deer again. I just saw the doe and not the fawn, but I think it was just hidden.

@shanaber How scary to have a skunk in the garage. I have seen one in our neighborhood lately so I don't let the dogs go out much at dawn or dusk and then only if necessary and not unattended. Our collie was sprayed once and it was not fun. I am surprised you can't trap them. We have been trying to trap a possum that keeps going under our house and we are nervous that we will catch the skunk. If we do we'll call animal control. But if we catch the possum we will just take him out of the city limits and release him. If there are any culverts or drainage ditches the skunks may be sleeping there.

@katharmonic Great job getting out and doing a solo run when you were expecting a friend. I know that would be hard to do. Nice long walk with the dog.

I finally caught up entering my mileage into the Run The World challenge. We're now in New Mexico, heading toward Truth or Consequences. I always thought the name was derived from some epic shoot out in the early days, but looked it up and they changed their name in March of 1950 from Little Warm Springs to Truth or Consequences after "winning" a contest to name their town after the radio show of the same name. Who knew?

@quilteryoyo That is interesting about Truth or Consequences. I always thought it was such an odd name for a town. I’m not sure why someone would want to name their town after a game show though.

I visited my parents today for my mom’s 70th birthday. My aunt came to visit as well, so I took everyone out to lunch and bought my mom a birthday cake. Of course Mom sent cake home with me, but I’ll save that until after my race tomorrow.

Tonight I did yesterday’s scheduled Z1 recovery for 2.7 miles. It has rained on and off all day, so I managed to get out in the break between storms. It started pouring shortly after getting back inside. Now I will relax with some tv and try to get to bed early in preparation for tomorrow’s race.

@marisap2010 I wondered why they would want to name their town after a game show too. I didn't see it in my cursory search, but I wonder if they were paid to do so. Happy Birthday to your mom! I'm sure you enjoyed lunch with family. I always have to bring cake home from my mom too. Good luck on your race tomorrow!

@eleanorhawkins - awesome job on your race! I am so glad you felt good to run it and run it fast! That PR is amazing especially with the grade oof those hills! Watermelon ice sounds wonderful during/after a race or really anytime!
@martaindale - Happy Birthday to you and your 14yo! Is this the same one that does rock climbing? I am so sorry they had to spend their birthday in the bathroom. Not fun at all! Hope they are feeling better and no one else gets it! As I figured with most here, I am old enough to be your mom 😳

I went out this morning for a solo walk with Beaux but it was already so hot. The low overnight was 85F! I left Hobbes at home and took Beaux for a neighborhood walk. 94F when we got home, with a hot wind blowing. Later this afternoon it was 105 with a feels like of 110! Apparently we broke records too, hitting 111! I feel bad for anyone who had tickets for Disneyland. Costs so much and it would have been miserable. I know I sound like a broken record but I can't get over the weather we are having. We have never experienced anything quite like this before. And it is supposed to be even hotter tomorrow... I really hope it doesn't migrate across the country and make everyone miserable!! This afternoon I got in a strength workout, been putting it off and my shoulder can tell. Hobbes isn't feeling well and wanted to just be with me. He laid down later on my mat and refused to move so I did planks and what not with him right up next to me 🤗

@shanaber - haha! That's one thing you'll notice when you go from the US to UK/EU... Our portion sizes are tiny compared to yours!
Over here, you could go to a restaurant and it's not unreasonable to be able to eat an appetizer, a main course and a dessert.
Now I'm 6ft1 and around 185 lbs... No way could I pull that off at many places in the States. Doubly-so for somewhere like The Cheesecake Factory, where they're ginormous!
@martaindale - same. 42, with a teenage boy same age! Hope s/he feeling better now!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for the kid and my birthday! They are feeling better. Still a little leary of eating too much but on the mend. Luckily it seems my husband and I managed to dodge this one.

It was on the edge of being nice outside this morning. 72F with some cloud cover and a little breeze. The humidity is basically a constant but shaving several degrees off makes a huge difference. I can feel fall coming and it's exciting!

This morning's race went pretty well.

It POURED rain all night, and some of the weather models showed rain for this morning too, but fortunately the rain held off, although there were dark clouds and some misting. Boy was it humid though!

I had no intention of really racing today. I figured that after Saturday's long run, I wouldn't be able to push too hard, so I ran it as a tempo run. My overall pace was better than my planned marathon race pace, and my time was better than last year (although last year's temps were sweltering), so I was pleased with how I did. I didn't stick around for the awards ceremony and didn't bother to look at the board while I was there to see how I did overall, so I'll have to wait until they post it online. I'm guessing it was middle of the pack, as usual. I ran into a friend from college who I had not seen in almost 20 years, so that was neat.

@shanaber Yikes! You guys are getting some really high temps for September. I hope you get some relief soon. And, yes, this is the same kid who does rock climbing. They said they wanted to go climb today but they were worried that the jostling from falls would make them nauseated. This bug made a lasting impression!

Can't wait to hear how @marisap2010's race went!!

No, this was the Labor Day Road Race in Macon. I just looked up the Big Peach 10K, and that looks fun too! We had a TON of people from the Atlanta Track Club at our race. I wonder why they didn't run Big Peach since that would be local for all of them?

Hooray @eleanorhawkins !!! I'm so glad you got to do your race.

With 2 weeks left until my 10k, I decided to redo that 2-week plan. Didn't even go get a fresh copy, just drew a line and am putting my check marks above it 🙃 Today had 2mile warmup & cooldown, with intervals in the middle. I did a shorter warmup, started the intervals (3 minutes running, 2 minutes walk/recovery) and actually ran some extra into the recovery intervals. But some of them, I was ready to walk, and didn't let it bother me today. I ran the intervals until I got home, and it came out a little short without the long warmup/cooldown, but I'm checking it off on the plan anyway.

I'm really hoping we'll be successful at restarting the weekly running club meet-ups tomorrow at the track. The lack of engagement and multitude of excuses have been a point of frustration for a while now... But then I will probably be an embarrassment to the club at this upcoming race, so maybe they'll be annoyed with me & my slow race results. At least I'm showing up though. I'd've expected more club members to represent in a race in our own city, but whatever 😆

I did Saturday's scheduled long run today, on the treadmill. It's rainy today, my driveway is slick when wet, so the treadmill was the safer choice. I mostly did a run/walk for 4/1 minutes. The runs were a ladder from 4.2 - 5.0, then I started running slower so I could make the distance. I think I did 5.0, 4.2, 4.9, 4.2, than did a minute each at 4.5, 4.4, 4.2 and walked 2 minutes. After that, I did 5 x ( one minute at 4.5,4.4,4.3, 4.2, 3.8) and ended with 4.5 mph. My legs were beginning to get tired, so did my cool down walk at 3.7 mph rather than 3.8 mph. I ran a total of 7.0 miles in 1:36:10 h:m:s for an average pace of 13:44 min/mile. My avg HR was 131 and max was 147 bpm. It WAS slower than a snail in molasses, but I did it and that was my goal today! As usual, I walked a total of 0.70 miles for warm up and cool down.

@polskagirl01 Nothing wrong with redoing your plan! I don't think anyone can be an embarrassment if he or she is out there trying their best. I hope you are able to get your groups to start the meet-ups again. I can see where that would be frustrating.

@shanaber Those temps are horrible. I hope you and the pups stay cool. I hadn't heard that the lady was an heiress. That at least gives some hope that she is alive and they are holding her for ransom. I hope they find her alive soon.

Catching up from Friday. I have a hard time making myself log onto a computer on the weekends. But, on Saturday, a friend and I hiked 11 miles on the Appalachian Trail. It was a beautiful day. Temp in upper 70s in the woods. We got an early start and finished up around 1:00pm. On Sunday, I ran 6 miles in a nearby town where I used to work. Just needed a change of scenery. Today I was planning to hike again but it was pouring rain this morning and has been raining off and on all day. I did manage to get a 3 mile walk in.

Congratulations @eleanorhawkins! Look at you beating last year’s time even with the extra length and climb! Wahoo!

Happy Birthday to you mom @marisap2010! My dad turned 83 on Friday and I also had to bring cake home. Luckily, it wasn’t anything fantastic and I was able to toss it in the garbage. That rarely happens at my house! Congratulations on your 10K race! Sounds like you managed it quite well!

Eliza Fletcher, the lady kidnapped while running in Memphis, has been on my mind all weekend. It could have easily been any one of us. So sad. I also thought of @rheddmobile when I heard about it. I don’t think this will end good at all.

@tarun_yadavA - I actually love the food and smaller servings in Europe. I spent several weeks in The Netherlands on a work trip (unexpectedly long) and loved the local food. It was all sourced from the village farmers and was great. The servings were just right for me and I could even enjoy the occasional dessert treat.
@marisap2010 - awesome job on your race! I always think it is amazing to run into someone you haven't seen in a long time among the hoards of people running. I ran into one of my daughter's swim team coaches who I hadn't seen in at least 10 years at a bigger race in San Diego. She looked the same but I was surprised she recognized me as I had lost so much weight by then. She actually helped me finish the race as I was about ready to DNF.
@martaindale - I'm glad the kid is feeling better! Funny how and experience like that will make such an impression and they never want it to happen again! It was probably a good choice not to go climbing quite yet!
@polskagirl01 - I think redoing that plan is a great idea and will get you right up to your race. I hope the running club works its schedules out and gets going again. Maybe if not everyone can make it you can coerce a few to meet up with you there? Kinda do it on your own until the others get their act together? I have never run with a group, well once and it was as bad as I expected and I got left behind because they were all much younger and faster than me. So I am not a good one on worries like that. Even when I was at my fastest I was always afraid I would hold them back.

This morning's temps were more than 10 degrees cooler than yesterday's so I took the pups out for a neighborhood walk (2 miles). Then came home and cooled off a bit, did my PT exercises for my hamstring and glutes, out on sunscreen and headed out to run. My legs felt surprisingly dead at first even after my pup walk but they loosened up a bit and I managed to run most of the trail. Stopped my watch on the way home because it was just too hot to run and walked the remaining mile.
One thing I noticed was that the dew point was 69% when I went out for my run and even though it was hotter on the way home, the humidity was down about 10% but the dew point was 71. I have always thought dew point was mostly driven by the humidity but apparently the heat is a big driver too. Today was supposed to be hotter than yesterday's record breaking heat but the morning was much cooler and it isn't nearly as hot this afternoon (only 97F 😁). Maybe, dare I say it, we are going to cool down some? Forecast still shows hot, hot, hot all this week until next Sunday but if it is correct it won't be staying so hot overnight so more early morning runs!

I too have been thinking about the TN runner. Makes me so sad. I certainly hope they find her and she is ok. Worrisome that the suspect knows where she is but won't tell the authorities.

I also thought of @rheddmobile when I initially heard the news. I just looked at her profile here and she hasn't been on MFP since early July. I haven't seen her much on Strava either. I really hope they are doing ok.
