Flat Pat ready to go! The weather looks really nice tomorrow with 50F at the start, upper 60s for the high. It rained all day today though so I expect plenty of mud.

Does anyone have any recommendations on good running shoes? I love my Mizuno Infinity Waves but I can't seem to keep them from slipping on my heal. It seams the last 4 or 5 pairs I have had are doing this. I have tied them so tight that my feet fall asleep and they still slip. It's not a lot just enough to be uncomfortable.
If you bought those based on the rec from the running store, you should be able to take them back and try something else. They don't want you to be in pain!
I prefer Brooks personally. I tried Asics and found they hit my Achilles in a weird way that hurts, and I tried Mizuno and just didn't like them. I've gone from the Brooks Adrenaline to the Glycerin, deviated to the Ghost and hated them, then to the Levitate. I know I'm going to need shoes in the next couple of months and am kind of dreading the process because while I love Brooks, they seem to change their sizing and fit with every new model so they're not really consistent.
Now I'm considering Hokas because my goal is to do longer distances, but truthfully, I hate the majority of their colors.
The other thing to take a look at are your socks. I never thought socks would make a big difference and then I bought some Feetures Merino and OMG they're the best for my feet. Like shoes, I think socks are trial and error because everyone has different preferences. I guard my running socks like a crazy woman because my boys seem to like to borrow them.
I'm almost 55 and I think younger people can get away with bad shoes and socks and be fine. At my age, I need to make sure my shoes and socks are helping protect me from injury.
On another note, for running here, we had a bad run on Thursday. My 10 year old apparently had a rough day at school and was crabby and just wanted to walk so I was trying to run up and back to her, but it was just a mess. We did 3ish pretty miserable miles. I had to tell her that everyone has a bad run and you just get back out and do it again. Today should be a run day, but we're going to King's Dominion so I'm not running then going out to walk 5 miles. I'll run tomorrow by myself and hope for a good one.
Every other Sunday morning, I do SAG for our half marathon training team and that gets me in the mood to run.

great note about the socks! definitely make a huge difference. I love my nikes but they change the brands and styles up so fast and the materials do not last as long as I would like either. The great thing is that you can send them back for up to 30 days with a complete refund so you are only out the shipping which means you can put a few runs in on a new style to see if you are really going to click or not.
46.5 total for the month not including today out of 120 stretch goal.. Starting out a much better month and hoping the temps will be in the 60's more often now.
Just a note for you in the dark runners as it's getting that time of year. I found some great "rechargeable" flashing lights to use this year - lightweight and very bright. So if you are running early take a look for them on amazon - not pricey and definitely worth it.

I'm trying to catch up on the thread after being off for a few days due to my schedule and the internet being crazy again. You all are doing great with your running.
@yirara I'm glad your ankle is healing quickly. Sorry that it happened in the first place. Take it easy so you don't reinjure it.
@tarun_yadavA You did great to get out for a run on Thursday and Friday when you weren't feeling like it. I'm with you, I would have gone for the wings and blue cheese. Glad London is getting rain. Sorry to hear about Queen Elizabeth's death. The wings look delicious...I forego the celery too.
@lou2you2 So glad that your daughter runs with you.
@martaindale I do hope they mow along your trail before it gets out of hand. Enjoy Puerto Rico. Looking forward to seeing pictures from your hike.
Glad to see you back @7lenny7 ! I have been wondering how you were doing. By now, you are in the middle of your race. I hope it goes well.2 -
14 miles this morning. I jumped ahead a week in my plan because I am playing golf next Saturday, so wanted to get that mileage on the books. Luckily it was about 10 degrees cooler than normal. I took 2 GUs also. I normally only use 1 on any long run, but need to get used to taking in more, and more often. It really wasn't too bad, and pace was faster than I expected.

I headed out for a route that I thought was longer than 10k, but I must've remembered it wrong and it was actually 9.4-something. I made up my own intervals as I went, and managed to run for longer than I have been doing lately, which was nice.8

Hmm... my HR has come up again due to not running much this month, but heck, this felt so much better than all the super low HR running described by sports doctor Ankle is... well, I climbed the top to a mountain yesterday. Apparently that wasn't the best thing to do. But it was still a great walk.5 -
@yirara I’m sorry about your ankle! I hope it heals quickly.
@martaindale Have a great trip!!!
@7lenny7 I was wondering where you’ve been and when we would get that race report! I hope your race today went great!
On Thursday evening I completed a foundation run for 3.7 miles. Yesterday morning, I completed my "Finish Eliza's Run" doing intervals for 2.3 miles before work. I'll do a recovery run/walk tonight, and tomorrow I have my "Marathon Simulator." 16 of the miles are supposed to be at marathon pace, with warm up and cool down. Because of the drastic difference in temp and humidity between Georgia now and Upstate NY in October for the race, I don't know if I'll be able to keep up my planned pace for the whole time, but I will do my best without trying to overdo it.6 -
Yes @marisap2010 don't use up all your accumulated fitness on a training run. Just do the same estimated effort, and don't worry so much about the pace. The pace will come on race day from your taper, carb loading, adrenaline, and race atmosphere (and hopefully the NY weather in October) 😏6
-
Looking forward to a race report @7lenny7! Hope it went well!
@martaindale have a great time in Puerto Rico
Nice job getting your 14 mile run in ahead of schedule @Scott6255
@marisap2010 good luck with your marathon simulator run tomorrow. We had lovely weather this morning in upstate NY, it did get a little warmer than I thought but started out just beautiful. Hope it is even better for Wineglass. I accompanied my friend for part of her 22 mile run today to prep for that race. It's coming up!
@polskagirl01 great job getting a longer run than expected!
I also did a longer run than I thought I would today. I had no plan really, just meeting with friends and keeping them company. I ended up doing way more hills than I've done in many months and a total of 8.86 miles. I didn't bother to get up to 9, I was just happy I survived that much

Great run @Scott6255 !
@polskagirl01 You are doing great. I never could find the plan I was looking for to share with you. Who knows where it went.
@yirara I guess I'm glad you got your hike in, but be easy on that ankle. Are you sure you should be running on it? Not trying to tell you what to do, just don't want it to get worse.
@marisap2010 That planned run sounds really hard. Good luck. And, yes, I would take the temp and humidity into consideration and slow it down a bit if needed.
Sounds like you had a great run too @katharmonic !1 -
I haven't posted for a couple of days. I have gotten a few walks in and a run in the heat on Thursday. Yesterday was our last day with Beaux the Vizsla so I took him and Hobbes out for an early walk and it was already nearly 90F! There was a tropical storm off our coast and we had a chance of rain that wasn't supposed to hit until very late Friday or early Saturday.
Below is non running related explanation of why I didn't run today.
TLDR - late night at a very wet Duran Duran concertWe had tickets to the Hollywood Bowl last night and even though it was starting to rain at our house we headed off (we are about an hour away in normal conditions).
As a preface I will say we have been going to the Bowl for a summer concert series with our friends for more than 3 decades and never had it rain. The concerts go on rain or shine and umbrellas are not allowed.
When we left home it was raining a bit and Californians notoriously do not know how to drive in the rain so it took us almost an hour longer than normal to get there and we ended up parked in the middle of several rows of stacked parking (important later) and it was already raining.
Fortunately we had rain jackets with us and I grabbed some towels I had in the back for Hobbes. We met up with our friends and had a very wet but fun dinner sitting out in the rain with rivers of water running off the tablecloth... note it was also hot, around 95F. We broke heat records all over So CA yesterday as well as for rainfall. The rain mostly stopped for the cover band opener but started up heavily once Duran Duran came on... We finally gave up and left a little after half way through their set. We were wet walking in, wetter during dinner and soaked during the concert.
Note that to get to the Bowl from parking you have to walk about 0.75mile up hill and down to get back. By the time we got back to our car we were literally drowned rats. Our friends were parked at the front of a line and able to get right out. We were still sitting in the parking lot by the time they got home but at least it was dry in the car even though we were still pretty wet. By the time we were able to get out of the parking the freeways were a mess from the rain and crazy drivers and we didn't get home until after 1am.

Tomorrow should be a great running day, much cooler than it has been but very humid and I should have gotten some sleep!6 -
Got in a 5 mile recovery run this morning. Started at a good recovery pace, then was feeling good so I guess I got too excited. Tried to slow down but didn't do a very good job.

Went ok today. Not great, but ok. Did 3 intervals of 15 minutes, each a bit faster. With a bit of luck I'll be able to put in two runs next week, but that's it. Traveling home from vacation on Tuesday, maybe do a long mountain trip tomorrow, and will be away on Friday to Sunday. So... I guess this will be a not much running month.5 -

9/4: 10.02 miles
9/6: 5.31 miles
9/7: 5.33 miles

45.21/100 miles completed for September
It was cool this morning when I ran. It was 65°F at the start and 68°F at the end. There was a bit of a north wind and it was cloudy. It really felt like a fall morning. It was such nice running weather that I ended up running 11 miles. I ran faster than I have for several months too. My pace always slows down in the summer and goes up in the winter. It was really nice to have a cool run after the excessive heat we have had this summer.
@martaindale Have fun in Puerto Rico!
@7lenny7 Good luck on your Ultra! I can't wait to read your race reports.
@shanaber I am so jealous! I love Duran Duran! I could do without sitting in the rain though.

September Goal: 60 miles
9/1 -- 3 miles
9/3 -- 3.84 miles
9/4 -- walked 5 miles at King's Dominion
9/6 -- 2.3 miles
9/8 -- 3 awful miles
9/10 -- walked 6.5 miles at King's Dominion
9/11 -- 4.5 miles
Total so far -- 28.14 (yes, I'm counting those days of walking!)
I told my daughter that the bad run the other day meant that today was going to be a great run and it absolutely was. We did W4D2 of C25K and ran the running sections without stopping. It was one 3 minutes run and then two 5 minute runs, which doesn't sound like much when you can go out and run for an hour+, but when you're coming back from not running for a couple of years, it's a freaking miracle!
We also got caught in the rain and came back absolutely soaked, but she learned how wonderful running in the rain can be. I also realized we were a lot faster today even though I was just focusing on running slowly to get through each running interval.
I love a good run day so much.6 -
Some friends and I attended a music festival this weekend and while fun it was a lot of walking and standing on pavement and me staying up way past my normal bedtime. Saturday we didn't go back until mid-day. Registration opened at noon for Peyton's Wild n Wacky 50k so we had to take care of that first. It sells out quickly but all six of us were able to register teams for the 2-person relay event. This morning I managed to eek out 6 miles. I didn't get out the door until 10:00 am which is very late for me. It did make lunchtime roll around quickly!
@scott6255 - great advice to @marisap2010 and great running this weekend.
@shanaber - The Hollywood Bowl sounds so glamourous! Even in the rain!4
