Great run this morning @tarun_yadavA . If that picture of the race is from your home, there are a lot of people still going strong at 10 miles in.1

I don't see a lot of folks smiling tho. Is the course very flat or are there some hills somewhere?

@SummerSkier London is a v.flat marathon.
London and Berlin tend to be the ones that the Kenyan/Ethiopian super runners tend to get their personal records6 -
October total: 16.1/180 miles
10/1: 10 miles
10/2: 6.1 miles
Recovery miles this morning. Leg fatigue from the long run yesterday kept me slow for the first mile but the cool temps made it easy to get going too quickly once I was warmed up. Took a couple miles to get back to a true easy pace. Really trying to keep my easy runs easy as the weather improves.5 -
October Goal: 100 Miles
10/2 - 13.13 miles
13.13/100 miles completed for October
The weather was just perfect this morning. It was 52°F and the dew point was 43° when I headed out. It was a lovely morning. The sun was shining and there was a light breeze. It was my idea of perfect running weather. I was feeling good so I decided to run a Half Marathon. I haven't run that distance in a long time and I enjoyed it so much! It wasn't a race so I wasn't running fast. But I did have an average pace of 11:01 which is a little faster than my summer easy pace. It felt like fall is on the way. I saw several monarch butterflies. October is when they make their migration to Mexico. It didn't seem like we saw many last year so I was happy to be seeing them already.
@martaindale Great job with your pace!
@quilteryoyo You are the busiest lady I know. Great job on keeping up with your streak.
@tarun_yadavA How fun to be on the London Marathon route.

10/2 – 7.07 miles
My goal for October is to run when I can. I’m not setting a mileage or time goal for the month. I have a lot of out of town commitments and I’m hoping you all will let me hang with you anyway. Just reading your running adventures makes me want to get out there. Case in point – today. It’s drizzly and 55F. A good day to stay inside, eat chocolate chip cookies and nap. But I came here and saw picture of the London marathon, thought of our friend @marisap2010 out there running the Wineglass, of @eleanorhawkins tapering, @Scott6255’s 18 miles yesterday, and on and on! (Just because I didn’t mention your name doesn’t mean I’m not equally impressed by you - as usual I'm just short on time!) Anyway, I headed to our local park and ran 7 miles mostly on the trail. I did one small out and back down a street just for a change – the trail loop is only 1 mile long.

Hi there: I used to run 5 km 3+/week several years back, but I'm starting all over again with significant weight gain in the interim. I am struggling with connecting with the right groups by looking through the different groups/discussions, and I wondered if anyone here knows of a C25K group for those starting up again? Looking forward to joining your group when I'm back in the groove again. Thanks in advance for any help!4

October: 3.50/80 mile goal
1 Oct - Ran 2.50 miles, Walked 1.00 mile - treadmill
2 Oct - Walked 1.00 mile - treadmill
I walked my mile on the treadmill today after church, lunch with mom, taking a nap, and going to a neighbor's for homemade ice-cream and home made strawberry cobbler to celebrate his 93rd birthday. After all that food, I just couldn't run. LOL
On Friday, when I was getting ready to leave my mom's house, I looked up and saw this beautiful rainbow. This was hurricane Ian remnants coming in - just got light rain here. It was bright and lasted I would guess at least 30 minutes. I've never seen one last that long.
Over mom's roof. What I first saw.
It was double on this one side.
The other end of the rainbow.
Nice recovery run @martaindale !
Thanks @kgirlhart . I'm glad you had such nice weather to run and could run a HM distance, just for fun. That's an excellent average pace.
@Teresa502 Of course you can hang out here. I agree that having a group like this is a great inspiration. It sounds like you had a wonderful run, once you took that first step and got outside.
@jane_76 You are very welcome to hang out here while you are "getting your groove again." This group is supportive, regardless of your level of running. Many of us have had to "start over" again, so we can empathize.

@quilteryoyo and @Scott6255 - thanks for the kind welcome. Happy to find out that newbies can find a home here, too. My mileage will be very minimal initially and subject to how my knee responds after an injury earlier this year. Trying to ease myself back into it - rushing my return earlier this year led to the knee injury. Looking forward to the day that I can run a feel-good 5 km again!5

@quilteryoyo
@shanaber
238,855 miles to the moon
477,710 miles total
If I manage the 15 miles per day:
31,847.33 days to complete or 87.25 years to complete
I am coming up on 52 years of age, with a new body, I could be done by the age of 140
...and owning a shoe store would be helpful

Morning all. Today's 9K6

Good morning all! Well, I finished Wineglass yesterday, although it did not go as planned at all.
The weather could not have been more perfect. 48F and sunny at the start, which was chilly at the start line but felt great after we got going. The first half went really well and I was on track to make my goal finish time. My hubby, his parents, and his cousin and wife followed me on the route to cheer me on.
A little after mile 14, I developed the worst stomach cramps. I have never had stomach cramps while running before and was afraid it was the dreaded “runner’s trots.” I stopped at one of the water stations with a porta potty but realized that wasn’t the issue. I ended up throwing up. I’m not sure what caused it. I really thought i was going to have to drop out. I called my hubby who encouraged me to sit for a minute and then walk for a little while before deciding if I was going to quit.
So I walked the next two miles and gave up any hope for a PR. I slowly drank some water and ate a Gu. I then began a run/walk for the last 9 miles. At the end, I was able to just run and picked up the pace. It took me an hour longer than planned to finish, which was disappointing.
I know every run isn’t a good run, but I just really wish it hadn’t happened yesterday! Oh well, I finished.9 -
@marisap2010 congrats on finishing your marathon! There is a very small percentage of the population that can claim that honor. Sorry it didn't go as planned, but marathons rarely do 😏
Great job for gutting it out (literally)!5 -
I also see that on our running challenge, we should head into Macon, GA in the next day or two.
Macon has a ton of music history as the home of the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, and Little Richard. Macon is also home to the Ocmulgee Mounds. The area has been continuously habituated for over 12,000 years. The mounds are now a National Historic Park and is a great place for running and hiking.5 -

@marisap2010 congratulations on the marathon!
Don't beat yourself up over timings. It's an amazing accomplishment2 -
10/2 – 7.07 miles
10/3 – 5.01 miles
Total – 12.08
I met some friends for 5 miles this morning on a route near the office that was mostly flat. After running trails yesterday, I needed it. We had a few sprinkles of rain at the beginning but they never amounted to anything. Temp felt good at 52F.
@marisap2010 – I’m so sorry about your tummy issues yesterday. Super kudos to you for hanging in there and not giving up! A marathon is hard enough when the body is cooperating but you deserve double medals for finishing when have issues. The course looks beautiful!

@marisap2010 huge kudos for finishing anyway, and as everyone else has already said just getting from start to finish is an amazing accomplishment, no matter how long it takes!3
-
@marisap2010 So sorry that your Marathon didn't go as planned, but great job on finishing despite adversity that would make most people quit. You earned that medal. Be proud!3

03.10 Mon 13°C 4.1km 36min
total: 4.1/80.5km
Was away during the weekend and didn't manage to run yesterday as I arrived back home too late. No probs. First run of the month. HR still too high after covid, but running went easy.4 -
@marisap2010 Congrats on finishing your marathon!!!! That's so awesome and even more so since you puked halfway thru.. Yikes. You are a warrior. wow.

October: 7.95/80 mile goal
1 Oct - Ran 2.50 miles, Walked 1.00 mile - treadmill
2 Oct - Walked 1.00 mile - treadmill
3 Oct - Ran 2.75 miles - walked 0.70 mile - driveway laps
Mom and I did our shopping today and also got some stuff that my cousin in assisted living needed. We took it to him and visited for a little while. He seems to be doing okay. Just wish he would get out and do some of the activities they have. I know it's hard for him, esp since he is legally blind.
We left around 8:15 this morning and didn't get home until after 4 pm. I was beat and really just wanted a nap, but I talked myself into going out and doing my scheduled Tempo Run on the driveway. It was 58°F and cloudy, so great weather for a run. I ran 5 min Zone 1, 5 min Zone 2, 15 min Zone 3, 5 min Zone 2, 5 min Zone 1. I did pretty good, I think. I was a little slow for the Tempo Portion, but was in the correct zone, barely. Still, I'm calling it a win. The first 10 min were at a 13:09 min/mile pace, tempo was 12:31 min/mile pace, and last 10 min was 13:40 min/mile. I did walk when I needed to in order to stay in the correct zone and up part of the hills. I walked up all of one of the hills because it was slick from being wet still from the rain yesterday. I was slipping backward when I pushed off and didn't want to hurt myself.
It sounds like you have a sound plan and now know what NOT to do @jane_76 . Have you found a C25K that you are using?
Hahaha @AlphaHowls . The way you are going, I wouldn't put it past you to still be running HM distances every day at 140 years old. I hope you can think of a something that you can work toward that is in the realm of possibility. Maybe you could do the meridional circumference of the world - that's only 24,860 miles....less that you are about to complete.
@tarun_yadavA Another great run. I think I agree with you that you will need a rest day soon. You sure don't want to get injured.
@marisap2010 So sorry to hear that you got sick during your marathon yesterday. You did great to keep going and get through it. Most people would have given up. I love that your husband is so supportive. I hope you are feeling better today. Oh, I agree with @Teresa502 - you deserve 2 medals for finishing under those circumstances.
Nice run @yirara. Glad it was easy even thought your HR is up from CoVID. I hope it gets back to normal soon.
For the Run the World group, we just passed where my husband grew up - Adairsville GA. I didn't realize until yesterday that we would be passing so close to there.

@jane_76 Welcome!! All experience levels are welcome and we'll cheer you on every step of the way.
@quilteryoyo So glad to see you back!
@kgirlhart Yay for an impromptu HM.3 -
@marisap2010 You're amazing for toughing out your marathon! Stomach issues are so unpredictable and seem to pop up at the worst times. Congratulations on finishing even if you missed your goal. Finishing alone is a major achievement!1
-
@marisap2010 I'm sorry your race didn't go as planned! It's so frustrating to say the least that the bad run happened on race day. Very unfair. Oddly enough a similar thing happened to my friend running the Wineglass too. She ended up throwing up during the race and had back pain out of nowhere. She is so disappointed because she hoped to BQ and she was so ready for this one.
But, back to you, you trained hard and you finished a marathon despite the stomach issues that you couldn't control. Good for you for toughing it out and being strong enough to do so. I'm sorry for the disappointment but impressed and inspired at your ability to finish!3 -
October total: 22.3/180 miles
10/1: 10 miles
10/2: 6.1 miles
10/3: 6.2 miles
Speed work today. 6 x 800m with 400m recovery. It was beautiful this morning but I had to be at work early so I did this on the treadmill after work. Even though it's getting nicer, it is still hotter than I would like for speed workouts during the day.
Today I realized that I need to focus on my form more on the treadmil during faster paces. As the pace picks up, I settle back a little and it changes my stride. Today I really had to focus on my form because maintaining that fast pace for a half a mile is really tiring. When I focused on pushing off like I would outside and holding my chest up and forward a little bit more the repeats felt significantly easier.4 -
@Teresa502 and @martaindale - thanks for the welcome!
@quilteryoyo - no joke that I know what NOT to do now. I can't believe how badly I injured my knee in one run/walk where I completely overestimated my readiness. I've never had a knee issue before, so I have a new found appreciation for just how debilitating they are. As for the C25K program, I just use the app I downloaded years ago by Zenlabs - it's a free 8-week program with three runs a week. Do you have any others that you would recommend? This one lets me play my own music with prompts cutting in over my music to tell me when to walk/run.
It's been great to read everyone's posts - it's getting me excited to get back out there! Tomorrow is day one. I have physio scheduled for Wednesday, so I figure if I encounter any issues, I can get it sorted out quickly.
Happy running!4 -
@quilteryoyo - awww thank you! When I start to feel stiff, I just ignore the pace. Want to run as much as possible over the next 2 weeks as I probably won't get a chance to run the last week of this month3
-
@jane_76 sounds like you're well set up with a plan. I would say though to be sure to listen to your body. When I first started, even the 1 minute runs in the first week of c25k were too much, I had to make up a few weeks of even shorter runs first! Also, make sure you run slow. Really slow. When you think you're going slow enough, slow down a bit more!
@tarun_yadavA I second a rest day. You know your body, but trying to frontload your month could backfire if you're not careful. Do you cross train? Adding in some walking or cycling or swimming could be a way to still exercise but reduce your risk of overuse injuries5
