So here I go, for this week I am planning to stay AF Sun-Thu. If I can stick this plan, hopefully I will not only feel better in the mornings, but see the scale moving in the right direction!
Yes, I am inspired by that too.
@Stockholm_Andy is the perfect example of how much weight you can lose if you just lose the booze!
@Lilylady3k has good incentive for AF nights, looking after a 3 month old baby and having to drive.
I am thinking that it might be harder during retirement (if I ever can retire) to not drink for me, since a busy workweek has been my motivator.
I do not have children or grandchildren, so your post about not wanting them to see you as an alcoholic doesn't really apply to me, but sounds like a very good motivator.
Our society conditions us to celebrate every occasion with drinks.
Keeping a drinking crowd out of our lives is a good idea, and sets an example for others.
I like that @MissMay made some new friends and then promptly dropped them after it became apparent that they were the latter.
Pics please @MissMay

Love what you said about enjoying the positive stuff and letting go of the stuff that we can't control. Easier said than done, but a good goal. I still keep trying to fix things that affect me negatively in the work world. In my personal life I have learned how to avoid negative people.

Hi : - )
I am Dawn.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I joined this group in November 2018, and had my very first AF day in many many years then.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days per month, and have maintained that for a few years until September of this year when I had only 14AF days (couldn't resist the daily Margaritas in Mexico I guess).
I do this diary style.
Friday October 07 - Drinks - Planning on drinks for Saturday also and then AF most weekdays for next week except for maybe one. If I stick to 4AF days per week I can reach my goal of 16AF days for the month. Monday is a holiday here (Thanksgiving) but I am working a split shift that day (stat pay) so I will be AF Sunday night.
Saturday October 08 - Drinks. Planning AF for Sunday, I may or may not have drinks Thanksgiving Monday.
Rolling total: 4AF days out of 8 days. 50% - I will try to change that up this week.5 -
October accountability: 4 days AF
Alcohol: 5 days (11 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
10/9 - 3 wine ; dinner at my sister’s

Feeling overwhelming sadness, but the thought of drinking alcohol to combat it never crossed my mind. Previously all feelings (happy, sad, bored) were a reason to drink. I guess that's progress.
10/1 thru 10/7 AF - 5 A - 2
10/8 AF
10/9 AF
Sept AF - 25 A - 6
Oct AF - 7 A - 2

Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?
10/1-10/7: AF
10:8: AF By the skin of my teeth! I’m not sure what happened but I went to the store and bought vodka and a mixer. Brought it home, chilled it and then didn’t drink it because I was afraid of the hangover! 🤷🏻♀️
10/9: AF6 -

Family dinner over. Was a lot of fun and game playing. Over the course of 7 hours 1 glass of wine with dinner.
Today back to M-thur and maybe friday AF. We will see. I am happy with my progress. I kinda feel like I need to take a bit of a pause of being so hard on myself if I have a drink. I am going to think of it as an adjustment period then I will work on the next phase. AF Sun-Fri consistently.
I have also started a new weight regime so that is going to help. Can't workout if sluggish from the night before.
As for finding a job at the first of the year. I honestly just want to find a no brainier part time maybe 25/30 hours per week. I have had the high pressure 80 hour work weeks and I am only looking for enough 'fun' money while we transition from DH income to no income while we try and sell the building (including the unwanted guests). That was basically like my work with the fair. No real brainier. Take money, give ticket and make change. And the fun of people watching. Saw it all, the side hustler, the too cool to be a teen, the geriatric scammer, oh the fun I had.
ok off for now

Yesterday I was successful in staying AF. No effort at all, which is usually the case for me on days 1 & 2. Day 3 might be more of a struggle, but I will do my best. I really want to try and turn my drinking days around, and only indulge on Fri & Sat, also without going overboard!
Usually I sleep well on AF nights, don't know what was up with last night, very restless night. Might have been due to extra walks yesterday, however my last walk was 2+ hours before heading off to bed. Hopefully tonight is better.6 -
I drank over the weekend, as planned, and didn't get *too* carried away, though I could have done better. Basically I'd be content if I always chose to drink one less than I end up drinking. Hindsight and all, I suppose. I'm planning to drink tonight because one of my husband's friends is visiting and we're going out to dinner with him. I'll definitely take it easy. I didn't track my calories all weekend so I'm trying to get back on plan in every regard. I walked the dogs and did a Peloton ride today so I feel like I'm off to a good start. I'll take Tuesday-Thursday off this week.
My tally so far including today:
4 AF / 6 A
The As are winning, so I'll have to compensate somewhere!7 -
10/1- A
10/2-10/3-10/4-10/5 AF
10/6-10/7- 10/8 - A
10/9-10/10 - AF5 -
2 glasses of wine at home with dinner
October accountability: 4 days AF
Alcohol: 6 days (13 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.

AF tonight, but this past weekend was boozier than I planned. I ordered a special Cosmo at dinner Friday night, come to find out it’s really two servings of alcohol. Plus the wine I had with my steak.
Saturday was a 9 oz pour instead of my normal 6oz at a restaurant with friends. I don’t know what the hell happened yesterday but I had 3 glasses of wine at home. Cleaned and covered the boat for the season.
Well, as you can imagine, I look about a decade older this morning! Like an old hag. No amount of Botox can fill in the dehydrated lines on my face. Nothing steals beauty like too much alcohol. I’ll go back to normal with a few AF days, along with plenty of good nutrition and water. But ugh! Not a good look!
Part of the problem was also lack of sleep. Too much alcohol means I sleep poorly. Oh, and last night I was woken up by animals…. First I heard the mice in my wall (‘tis the season, and exterminator comes this week). Then, I heard a bunch of coyotes howling and yipping. Kinda charming at 9:30 at night. At 3:30 AM? Not so much! STFU!!!!7 -
I came back from New Mexico a day early (another story for another time.) 8 hours on the road today with a couple of construction delays. When I last stopped for gas I bought some Michelob Ultra. I drank 3 at my desk while putting in 4 hours of work after the drive. I did finish what I wanted to get done so that's a victory.
I sold out my husband's share of the family business shortly after his death ( I am the CFO), but am still working because I didn't want to leave my sister-in-law without 2/3 of her executive team. I have now decided that I am going to transition my responsibilities and just work part time as needed. I had hired my replacement in May 2021 so I am in a good place to do so.
Fortunately I am blessed financially so I don't have to work. I was actually supposed to be done at the end of 2021, but my husband's mental health issues and death put the brakes on that. I'm not convinced I will never work in a paying job again, but I have the luxury of taking some time and figuring it out.
10/1 thru 10/7 AF - 5 A - 2
10/8 AF (7th month anniversary of husband's suicide)
10/9 AF
10/10 A
Sept AF - 25 A - 6
Oct AF - 7 A - 3
Have a good Tuesday!
For some reason I can't attach pictures from my phone. I wanted to share a few from the balloon fiesta. Any ideas?5 -
I'd love to join in! I usually have at least one bevvie a day. I just want to keep the bevvies to the weekends, and only one day at that.
So here we go today, day one!8 -

I dreamt about this thread last night but I can’t remember in what way. Odd.
Today marks 30 days AF for me. Before that I think it was August 20ish. On both of those days I had half a drink. I have mixed feelings about this. I think the main ones are proud and anxious.6 -

10/2-10/3-10/4-10/5 AF
