Less Alcohol ~ OCTOBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

I'd love to join in! I usually have at least one bevvie a day. I just want to keep the bevvies to the weekends, and only one day at that.
So here we go today, day one!
Didn't have any bevvies yesterday! My partner offered me some wine and I said no, and told him why. He's proud of me! I went for a 9 mile walk as well, ate properly.
He's eaten properly and drinking less than usual as well!
Today I won't have any bevvies again. I'm thinking soda water will be nice for that bubbly feeling that I like.
Also, feel free to add me if you'd like! I don't know how to add on MFP anymore.
Last 2 days successes!
Last night I only woke up once. I think it's because I haven't been drinking daily!!!
Will go for another.
I went for another big walk yesterday. Thought it was 13 miles, certainly felt like it with the blister on my foot, but I realised my app glitched and I walked 8.5. That's still good!
While I was out, I came across the only shop that I know that sells Honey Mead, so I got some for my partner to try, and some for me to have tomorrow.
Did I drink any yesterday? No, because I'm on a mission! 😁7 -
Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?
10/1-10/7: AF
10:8: AF By the skin of my teeth! I’m not sure what happened but I went to the store and bought vodka and a mixer. Brought it home, chilled it and then didn’t drink it because I was afraid of the hangover! 🤷🏻♀️

I dreamt about this thread last night but I can’t remember in what way. Odd.
Today marks 30 days AF for me. Before that I think it was August 20ish. On both of those days I had half a drink. I have mixed feelings about this. I think the main ones are proud and anxious.
10/11: AF
Well, my job has finally made me physically ill to the point where I couldn’t work yesterday I was so sick. I felt better in the evening so I job searched. Next to brush up my resume and start submitting. I really wanted to try to stick this job out for the 50 hours of vacation time I have coming to me but at this point, I have to get out!
10/12: AF

@dawnbgethealthy I have 50 hours of vacation time, how I wish it was 50 days! If it was 50 days I would so be using it right now! Alas, it is 50 hours, so about 6 days worth.
I am going to Bali for 10 days in December. I have a friend originally from the States who lives there and runs a restaurant with her husband in Ubud. I just had to pay for the flight (22 hours 😣) and she is taking care of the rest. I will be staying at various AirBnBs on the beach the first 6 days then up to her house in Ubud which is more central Bali. It’s supposedly a very healing place, a yoga mecca and very spiritual. I plan to drink something delicious out of a pineapple on a beach and unplug from the world!6 -
I had 1 1/2 Michelob Ultra last night while cleaning the house. I should have taken it as a sign that I shouldn't drink when I spilled the first one!

@globalhiker Great job on the 11 out of 12 days AF! I hear you about the long hours of sitting for work. In my South Dakota home I had a treadmill desk so I could either sit, walk or stand. I loved it, but gave it up when I moved to a smaller home. I often walked up to 9 miles a day (it only went up to 2 mph so that was a lot of walking.) You made me laugh with the Kardashian butt comment. There is no way they are buying clothes off the rack!5
-
@joans1976
Ah, 50 hours lol.
Well, Bali sounds so wonderful!! I am sure that gets you through some days, having something like that to look forward to.
If you are applying for new jobs you could just tell them that you are available all but those 10 days?
I hope that today finds you a little better, or if not that you are getting paid for sick days.4 -
@Lilylady3k
It seems like you have no problem being AF when not around certain people.
Yes, we can change our friends to AF friends, but we can't change our spouses or family members, so kudos to you for the AF days that you manage to squeeze in when around drinking people.
I am not so sure that I could do that.6 -
Hi : - )
I am Dawn.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I joined this group in November 2018, and had my very first AF day in many many years then.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days per month, and have maintained that for a few years until September of this year when I had only 14AF days (couldn't resist the daily Margaritas in Mexico I guess).
I do this diary style.
Sunday October 09 - AF - Made a beautiful AF Cherry Daquiri, 5 calories.
Monday October 10 - AF - Planning AF until Friday. My friend moved away who I normally have Apricot Brandy mixed with Espresso Bailey's with on Thanksgiving Day. I worked anyway, so even if she had been here I couldn't have indulged.
Tuesday October 11 - AF - Felt like having drinks, but my work days are way too long for the next couple, so I have to feel as healthy as possible and drinks might change that.
Wednesday October 12 - AF - One more long shift for Thursday and then just a regular one for Friday. Whew, very tired, definitely wanted to reach for a nice relaxing A drink last night, but knew that I couldn't/shouldn't. Planned drinks or Friday and or Saturday
Rolling total: 8AF days out of 12 days.3 -
I drink about 2x a week or so. I wish I had the strength to quit forever to be honest. I have noticed though when I do drink even just two drinks I am very depressed the next day. I certainly am not depressed when I am drinking...makes me relaxed but the next day....ugh....so depressed. I understand alcohol is a depressant but why would it affect me the next day? Does anyone else have this issue?6

Am hungover. I've been cutting back and haven't been drunk for 3 weeks now.
Yesterday, went to meet my partner at a pub free I finished work. So I got a double vodka soda. 3. Knew I was feeling it already, so I switched to cider. At the next pub, they didn't have cider, so I had a lager.
Had a bit of honey mead at home too.
And today, oh. my. word. I haven't been hungover in a long time.
On the bright side, no bright lights though please, what an incentive to stay away from the alcohol.
Am obviously not having a bevvie today.
I have drank tons of water already too.
I feel like a loofah sponge. Dried out to f***.9 -

@sarah7591 I had this issue too. I have clinical depression and I would drink to feel better and then when I felt bad the next day, would drink to feel better again. A vicious cycle. I’m not a doctor but I would assume it has to do with chemical imbalances.4 -
I had good day yesterday. Lots of body movement and healthy eating. I'm getting excited for my friends to come for a visit next week. They drink, but not excessively so I may or may not drink, but I'm not going to judge it if I do.

@sarah7591 I hear you on the depressant qualities. After my husband passed I was drinking daily (not heavy but daily). I finally realized that it made no sense to consume a depressant to help me with depression. Once I verbalized that thought it has been much easier not to consume alcohol. Hugs to you.
@globalhiker - here are couple of pictures from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. It was amazing an experience. There were hundreds of balloons.

I don't experience that, but I sometimes get an upset tummy the next day, and find that I am not as sharp as I would like to be mentally.3 -

Thursday October 13 - AF - I had to do some self talk for that, with no split shift scheduled for Friday I almost caved. Now the next morning I am very glad that I didn't, I have a big project to do for my other job after the restaurant which I might have postponed/rescheduled to next week had I not been feeling well.

@dawnbgethealthy Nice streak! And proud of you for the choice YOU made for YOURSELF to be AF to handle the next day! Way. To. Go. Girl.
@Breathe57103 Oh my! I love those pics! Those bees are adorable!3 -
I went for a hike with my niece this morning, had a one hour Stretch Zone session and did lots of work. Then i washed my SUV and cleaned the garage. I had 3 Michelob Ultras over the course of 6 hours. I met a neighbor lady who was walking by with her grandsons and she is going to teach me to play Pickle Ball. Pilates, golf and company for dinner is on the schedule for tomorrow.
I thought of 2 things I would like to do in my retirement. One is to somehow volunteer to help other widows wade through the paperwork, legal and financial side of death (I have a financial background and I see how overwhelming it could be if you don't). The other is to play golf in every state. I always told my husband I would like to do that when we retired. Now I need to wrap up my job and start planning these things.

Will go for another AF day.
I hope everyone has a great day!8 -

10/1-10/7: AF
10/8-10/14: AF
Yesterday I was off work and-huge surprise-no stomach ache. This weekend is open besides taking care of my parents so now is a good time to job hunt.
I got two bathing suits in the mail I ordered for my Bali trip. I was feeling really proud that I’ve lost 46 pounds. Then I put the suits on. It is not good people. Not good. However. That’s not going to stop me from going to Bali and having a memorable vacation!4 -

October accountability: 5 days AF
Alcohol: 9 days (25.5 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
10/14 - 7 drinks ; Think Pink (breast cancer) fundraiser luncheon. After all the free flowing Prosecco during the 3 hr event I didn’t get anything done in the afternoon. I’m calling it 5 glasses of Prosecco PLUS 2 glasses of wine in the evening since I brought home a nice bottle of wine from the wine pull at the event and we opened it for dinner.3 -

Wonderful ideas for being active in retirement. I love giving back to others and your idea of helping widows deal with the financial side really makes sense. When my mom's husband passed away in 2020 it fell to me to get everything straight. On the financial side they had very little (no savings accounts) but there were multiple checking accounts (5) that had to be transferred and consolidated, credit cards to cancel, insurance policies to revise, sold his car, their boat, etc etc etc. Then I set her up with a savings acct with an auto transfer from her checking to savings to start building an emergency fund. She had more money than she needed all of a sudden. And since I've convinced her to sell her house in 2022 and move into my little house next-door to hers that we used for vacations ... she now has a Fidelity account and no expensive bills for maintaining her place that needed a lot of work (seawall, roof, plumbing, septic tank, etc). AND she got rid of all her bills (almost) since we arranged that she gives me $500 per month and I pay all the bills.
My DH and I do everything together with our portfolio but if he passes I will have a lot to figure out remaining. There are so many things to consider and though we've talked through the issue that could come up it would help to have an ear to bounce my memories off on what to do next.

@joans1976
Congrats on the 46 pound loss!!
Just rock those bathing suits. Probably nobody will notice the flaws that you think that you see.
I am still wearing bikinis into my 60s, I just like having a brown belly, and no longer care what others think of my swimwear choices. Anyway, brown fat looks better than white fat6 -

Friday October 14 - Drinks - I was almost euphoric finally finishing work for the week last night. My short term tenant finished his 6 weeks of schooling and also left yesterday. I felt so happy and free. This weekend I will be digging potatoes after pulling all of the rest of my peppers and tomatoes. I am hoping to have one more week before digging up all of my carrots and beets. The house will get cleaned some other time

10/15 - AF; Church Bazaar they had non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri which DIL & I both enjoyed after yesterday’s over indulgence. We skipped the beer, wine and margaritas.3 -
Many of you said such nice things that lifted me, thank you
Bali trip sounds super amazing @joans1976 - how many days left?
And I LOVE the pictures of all the balloons!!! @Breathe57103.
I learn so much from all of you. Just simple lessons...like let go of fears, look towards the future...don't be scared of change. You inspire me to create the change in me.3 -
@krishjaye wow you are doing amazing-ride that momentum! You could inspire those around you.
I will say that long exercise does wonders for me. It gets my head to stop chattering and puts me in a really chill state. It's a good place to be. I think it's called serenity and it comes with no hangover.2 -
@Breathe57103 your ideas are sound and I see you very being successful in helping women in this situation. Many, if not most are widowed or divorced or just alone. Half of my friends and former co-workers are in this situation.
