Less Alcohol ~ OCTOBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

Hello group! 🦋
Maybe a sober October?
10/1-10/7: AF
10/8-10/14: AF
10/15-10/21: AF
10/22: AF
I really considered having drinks (plural) last night. I felt like I needed something to take my mind off the biopsy coming up. However, my anxiety has been so high lately I was afraid the alcohol might make my anxiety worse and then I would be stuck. I had chocolate instead 😎
10/23: AF
10/24: AF
My boss is being horrible, just horrible. I need to think of a nickname for her besides “narcissistic a—hole.” Ideas?
10/25: AF
Biopsies today, fingers crossed!6 -
@lmlmrn Grrrr. Just reading that makes me mad and anxious. Is this happening in other parts of the city too? Have you spoken with those business owners? Maybe they have ideas, maybe you’ve tried that. I’m sorry this is so frustrating!
@MissMay Thank you for the POD recommendation, I tried to get my parents to use one when they were moving but it just didn’t happen. Now I have it for the future. Good luck with moving in the last of your things. The best part about moving, setting up your new place, a fresh start!
@Lilylady3k That leaf is gorgeous, I hope you pursue this!5 -
Hi - I've been working on AF in October but haven't posted here yet. 2 A days so far but have 2 more planned this weekend.
My question to the group - Facebook knows I'm trying to be AF and keeps giving me alcohol replacements like Seedlip, hemp spirits, etc. Has anyone tried these? I miss the "unwind time" at the end of the day.5 -
@lmlmrn OMG that’s frightening! Have you tried contacting your congressman? They should have more pull so the police do something permanently to get rid of them.
Normally I’d say contact the media, but with everything being so woke these days, they might spin it as “oh those mean people trying to get those poor homeless people off their property!”2 -
Had a glass of wine last night, need to stay AF tonight. Between wine and poor food choices lately, the weight is creeping up. Have to drag myself to work out this morning to get back on track!
@joans1976 how about “Cruella DeVil” or Meryl (as in Streep, who played the horrible boss in The Devil Wears Prada).4 -
Welcome newbies!!!!!3

@lmlmrn
I have been around the Lexington Kentucky area before. Pretty much horse country. Are you a horse person?
@h3artgreen6478
Glad that you are joining us.
@joans1976
I will be trying to think of a nickname for your sociopath boss.
@Lilylady3k
Wow, very good job on that watercolour!! It reminds me of the colours that the leaves turn around here in the fall.

@lmlmrn still so freak'n nuts that the police are turning their heads to your situation.
PLEASE contact the company that you have TITLE INSURANCE with. They helped me out when the people next door kept invading, tresspassing, digging on my property. So many people forget about this insurance that is part of your closing costs when you buy property.
Do it....DO IT NOW!4 -

Hi : - )
I am Dawn.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I joined this group in November 2018, and had my very first AF day in many many years then.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days per month, and have maintained that for a few years until September of this year when I had only 14AF days (couldn't resist the daily Margaritas in Mexico I guess).
I do this diary style.
Monday October 24 - 2 drinks. The only thing that I did that I had never done before was not a positive thing. A customer ordered a Stella, I went into the cooler to get one and the box was in there but empty. We had other boxes of it not chilled. Whoever took the last cold one out completely knew that they were doing that, and weren't thinking of the next person. I actually flung the box out on the floor while shouting. Completely out of character for me, and very unproud of that.
Tuesday October 25 - AF - I refused an extra shift for the day, too tired. How nice it was to be home to have dinner at a reasonable time.
Rolling total: 15AF days out of 25 days.3 -

WELCOME!
I like Facebook's suggestions for the non-alcoholic beverages. Although, I found out some of the cool looking bottles and pretty labels sucked me into buying them and they were not all that great in taste. (Example $60.00+ bucks, pardon the pun, down the drain)
My go to currently when I can find it is Heineken 00, Clauthauster citrus.
At a bar I will order sweet tea w/ginger ale and mint leaves, no ice in a stemmed glass. OR ginger ale and cranberry , no ice with a orange twist in a stemmed glass.

Thank you all
Here is the latest taken today of our 'problem'
We are continuing to look at an attorney to go after the city. It is the cities policies that got us and the rest of the business owners on this street left with this mess.
LOL the email exchanges are getting to be funny now....they back pedal and say 'we never said we couldn't do anything' 'I have forwarded this information to the HOT department' another word for environmental services part of the police department that tell us to go out and talk to the homeless. Really???
Grr I can't wait to move out of here. My beloved home state.
Ok I have NOT been AF. Is it good for me, no. But now is not the time for me to start therapy to work out my 'why' issues.
I can't tell you how much your support means to me over this non A events.

I like Curious Elixirs but they are expensive. Buddha Tea with CBD is better for winding down for me and cheaper.5 -

October accountability: 11 days AF
Alcohol: 15 days (37.5 drinks)
Goal: Limit 1-2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
10/26 - 2 wine
A friend dropped by unexpectedly this afternoon. She lives in town but her husband was out in the burbs getting an infusion treatment. He (yes guys can get it too) has had stage 4 breast cancer since 2006 and this is the 3rd reoccurrence with chemo treatments every few weeks. He has been sick the last 2 weeks and lost 15 lbs. They were treating him today for dehydration too. He took her this morning to find out what is required for a funeral plot. She needed someone to distract her while he was going through treatments which instead of an hour they kept him 4-5 hrs.
After she left I opened a bottle of wine. Not the best reaction but it is what it is.

@lmlmrn That photo enrages me, even though I'm not involved.
Invite your squatters [ each and every one ] to come down the block, around the corner for a free hot meal...soup and hot drinks, all you can eat.
Then have a bulldozer flatten the entire shebang, motorhomes and all. If you offer dessert, maybe you'll have time for a front end loader to scoop up the remains into a big truck. Bu-Bye!
Kidding/not kidding. Y'all already know I'm a crazy old lady.
Trying to feel empathy for people who are so destitute and desperate that they feel they need to live like that.
Not drinking this week, spending time with Middle Daughter whose 16 year old cat just passed away. She's thinking of having some vodka to ease the pain, but realizes that her other 2 furfaces need her sober.
Thinking of turning this dry week into a dry November and December but that may be a stretch. All those fruitcakes and pantone that demand a glass of wine. Perhaps start in another season. It's always easier to quit in the warm months. And, so, another excuse to delay.

Nancy.... words, I have none after looking at that total disrespect for your property by those squatters.
I want to say to them - You have a damn RV. Go to Walmart and live in their parking lot. You have money to buy things obviously from the photo, or go live at a camp site.
We are checking with a guy we know that used to live in your town for more suggestions. My heart goes out to you my friend. 🥺4 -
@tmbg1 you are on a ROLL..and I hope you keeping riding that wave. Will check out Buddha tea with CBD.
Today was a good day for me. It's now getting cool outside and that is when my spirit lifts. I went out for a 5 a.m. run and it served me well.
I totally read and get it that others dump stress on us (I experience it too - all the time) but what can we do to stop absorbing it?
Is it the best solution to go drink every time someone drops a stress bomb on us?
(Just throwing out the question and hopefully someone smarter than I can answer). BUT this has been the million dollar question in my head.
