I went to see my husband yesterday. He is in a nursing facility close to our daughter’s workplace and miles from me. His room was a mess. Our daughter engineered the location so he would be near her workplace, and that put him very far from me. I am saddened.8

Welcome @MaryCath1954, MaryCath in Kingston ON! You are so right about that full time self-care job.
Happy birthday Ginny. Good of you to spend it with your brother, giving your SIL respite. ((hugs))
Karen No offense taken and I love you too! Do find myself resenting doing chores in my precious alone-at-home time. It’s not the chores that irritate him so much as the sounds. There must be something about them that is almost painful to him as it is to Machka’s DH. Doesn’t apply to loud motorcycles, cars with booming exhaust pipes or blowers Maybe low frequency doesn’t trigger the reaction that high frequency does? As for helping, one time he “helped” by blowing out the dining room. SMH. Took months of digging to get the stuff out from the edges. Yes I should run those annoying machines when he walks the dogs so when he goes to town I can wallow in having the house to myself. Getting your brother’s real ID is a real accomplishment. Con VERY gratulations!
Lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
Barbara LOL about blowing out the DR. OMG.
An idea for the sound-sensitive: I have familiarized myself with many items and ideas helpful for people with autism. There are tons of noise-cancelling earplugs, headphones, earmuffs, and noise-cancelling machines on the market. I wore a pair when I participated in Jazzercise to make the music more tolerable. My workplace had a very effective system to aid with privacy, because we had curtains on cubicles rather than solid doors. That was really more of a white noise type system, though. The range in prices runs the gamut, but it may be worth considering for anyone who suffers from this malady.
As an aside, I recently received a Buy Nothing weighted blanket that has helped with my quality of sleep.
I gave my grandson one 4 years ago that he still uses. It has significantly improved his quality of sleep.

Lisa, Are the tornadoes near you? I saw they were in Faulkner, Franklin, Logan, Pulaski, and Sebastian Counties. I forgot which part of Arkansas you and Corey are in.
My sympathies on the immunization aftermath. So miserable, but short-lived and well worth it.
___
Irish Terri I really like your November grateful list. I am inspired to make one of my own to post sometime soon.

Lanette Glad your safe and still anchored. I have eaten roasted chickpeas but haven't made them. I looked at a couple of recipes that called for canned chickpeas. They look pretty easy and delicious:Crispy Roasted Chickpeas___
YIELD
Serves 8, Makes about 2 cups
INGREDIENTS
2 (15-ounce) cans chickpeas
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 to 4 teaspoons spices or finely chopped fresh herbs, such as chili powder, curry powder, garam masala, cumin, smoked paprika, rosemary, thyme, or other favorite spices and herbs
EQUIPMENT
Can opener
Strainer
Dishtowel or paper towels Measuring spoons Rimmed baking sheet
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the oven to 400°F. Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 400°F.
Rinse and drain the chickpeas. Open the cans of chickpeas and pour the
chickpeas into a strainer in the sink. Rinse thoroughly under running water.
Dry the chickpeas. Pat the chickpeas very dry with a clean dishtowel or paper towels. They should look matte and feel dry to the touch; if you have time, leave them to air-dry for a few minutes. Remove any chickpea skins that come off while drying, but otherwise don’t worry about them.
Toss the chickpeas with olive oil and salt. Spread the chickpeas out in an even layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with the oil and sprinkle with the salt. Stir with your hands or a spatula to make sure the chickpeas are evenly coated.
Roast the chickpeas for 20 to 30 minutes. Roast, stirring the chickpeas or shaking the pan every 10 minutes. A few chickpeas may pop – that’s normal. The chickpeas are done when golden and slightly darkened, dry and crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle, 20 to 30 minutes total.
Toss the chickpeas with the spices. Sprinkle the spices if using over the chickpeas and stir to coat evenly. Serve while the chickpeas are still warm and crispy. They will gradually lose their crispiness as they cool, becoming addictively chewy.
RECIPE NOTES
Using roasted chickpeas: Besides eating these chickpeas as a snack, you can toss them with salads or sprinkle over soup in place of croutons.
Ginny Happy Birthday!!!

Viv UK Good news about the kittens! Yay!

30 Days of Gratitude
1. Smell - freshly cut grass on our lawn.
2. Technology - the amazing advancements in medical technology.
3. Colour - blue. Beautiful blue sky peaking through the clouds.
4. Food - soup. That's what I've been eating just recently because there's less chewing. We always keep a few cans of soup on hand for situations like these.
5. Sound - my music. I've recently acquired a number of nature sounds CDs with music playing along with sounds of ocean waves, birds, and so on. Lovely.

Got my Covid shot yesterday, and I'm sure that was a lot of it. My left arm aches this morning, too. I may have to go back to bed and see if I can catch a couple more hours. Still tired!
I feel that way almost every day ... only the Kraken has to let go so that I can somehow make my way to work. But the Kraken usually gets me again for a little while on the bus ride home.
It's good to sleep like that sometimes (weekends for me) and I hope it refreshes you.
I am not fond of sleeping on my back, but I have to keep my nose out of my pillows just now. On the Wednesday when I had my biopsy done, I laid down about 2:30 pm, with my neck pillow keeping my head reasonably straight and me lying on my back, I did a couple box breathing breaths to relax myself, and woke up 3 hours later. I was in bed again not long after and slept another 12 hours, on my back!!
I was stunned my body let me do that! Sleeping that long is not unusual, but on my back ... !! I must have been extra tired.

I was sitting here this afternoon, reading (and finishing) another novel:
And then we went for another short bicycle ride. It felt a little bit better than yesterday, but I am getting headaches right at the top of my nose, between my eyebrows and little bit into the eye area.

Hello all! Happy Saturday and Happy November!
Barbie- Thank you for bringing us into this month!
Rori- My daughter married a man of Mexican heritage and they have an ofrenda. My daughter found it odd, at first (as did I); but once we learned the story/history behind it, we both like the thought of it and my daughter likes to have it to introduce her kids to the concept of death and their ancestors. On a side note: Two of my grandsons are named after characters from the movies Book of Life and Coco. Joaquin and Miguel.
Barbara- As we get older, our hair gets thinner and more fragile. It tangles easier and breaks easier. Then we get those funny gray hairs that come in curly or wirey and tend to go wherever they want. I am not very picky on my shampoo; but I do not scrimp on conditioner and hair smoothers. If you don't do it currently, you might want to consider using a wide tooth comb in the shower after you put conditioner on your hair. Comb through while conditioner is in. Rinse your hair, then wrap your hair in the towel while it is still hanging down your back. It will help prevent tangling. Unless I am going someplace "fancy", I tend to wear my hair in braids (mainly due to the babies pulling my hair).
Pip- The new Bette looks nice! Glad she fits in your garage! The pups look very happy.
Katla- I am so happy you have found public transportation to take you to visit your hubby. Is the facility only allowing one visit per week? Or is that the bus schedule?
Karen VA, Tracey, Carol, Heather, et al. - Loving all of the grandchildren pics!
My visit with my daughter, SIL in grandsons was busy, crazy, exhausting! lol We went to the zoo, visited two farms and petted many animals, hayride, pumpkin patch, playgrounds, beach, walks with kids, walks with dog, painting and art, board games. DH and I were worried about the Friday/Saturday that DD and her hubby were at the rehearsal dinner and wedding and reception. We were worried the boys were going to have a major meltdown. But they were good as gold. Happy to play outside, go to a halloween event at the airport, and hang out with grandma, grandpa, and uncle. Joaquin is absolutely smitten with Uncle Colin (my DYS) Uncle Colin had to work this week (he took a couple of days off), but as soon as he drove in the driveway, Joaquin was on him like glue. The kids went to the beach three times. The first time they went with my hubby and daughter and went in the lake fully clothed (air temps last week were in the low to mid 60F; water temp was about 55F). The second time the kids were with my DOS, his girl friend, DYS and myself. Joaquin and Miguel ran toward the water as I was getting the baby out of the stroller. DOS and his girlfriend were already at the water's edge with DYS closely following the little boys. I yelled, "At least take their shoes and socks off!" The reply from the uncles "We won't let them go in!" lol Riiiiiiiight. The boys rode home in underwear. Soaking wet and sandy clothes. The third time to the beach it was with my DD. She was appalled when I began stripping them down to underwear as soon as we parked the car, because it wasn't very warm out. But Joaquin and Miguel were thrilled and made a bee line for the lake. They played in and out of the water for about an hour, in just underwear. No blue lips, no teeth chattering. We put warm dry clothes on them and went home happy. It was a great visit. My DD called me while they were making the drive back to Texas and told me that her DH wants to move to Michigan. SO...he is getting info about transferring, she is starting a job search, and they are keeping an eye on housing. They live in a growing and popular area and houses are getting snapped up quickly and for quite a bit more than what they paid five years ago. The tough part, I think will be getting a house where they want in Michigan. Oh well, I have offered our house as a home until they get theirs. If this works out; I won't have to figure out when I am going to see my grandbabies next!
The boys at the lake
My 55th birthday selfie, last November.
Well, it is a soggy, gloomy day, but I need to get my shopping done and have to check a storage unit that was broken into. SO...time to get the lead out. Love and hugs to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Machka Lovely gardens. Goodness.
Annie in Delaware Everyone has their own way of getting out of a temporary slump. One tried and true method for me in the past (not so much since Covid) was going to a movie in a theatre, one I could become totally engrossed in. I would go into the theatre in a slump and emerge transformed! Do you have any gimmicks that have worked for you in the past? Exercise, music, calling a friend, a long hot bath, starting a new book, dancing or marching, cooking a new healthy delicious recipe, and volunteering/helping someone are other things that have worked to snap me out of the doldrums in the past. Not talking about depression, just the blues. (((Hugs)))
Heather I am enjoying my vicarious voyage!

This afternoon I am meeting someone who will assemble a new bed frame at our apartment.
This morning will be working on more purging and start staging for my brother's move. The more preparation we do for the movers, that more efficient the move will be, and the less it will cost, so that is my focus.
Yesterday my brother and I went to DMV for the third time to try to obtain a Real ID. It's a challenge to scrape up documentation to get a real ID for someone who has no driver's license, utility bills, passport, W-2's, etc. - but we finally met the criteria. Amazing how thrilling it was to get this accomplished, lol! We were both in disbelief when the DMV screener gave us a number and told us to have a seat! It took about 1.5 hours, not too bad given how crowded they were.
Love you gals,

Yogi acts like the new kids don’t exist. Kirby did a lot of measuring to make sure that it will fit. Kirby is really happy with the new Bette

Machka-as others have said-your gardens are beautiful.
Allie-can't hurt to ask hospital to check it out. If they won't reduce, tell them you can send $5.00 a month.
Lisa-all sorts of vaccines make me tired-thats why I schedule all of them for Fridays if I can.
KJ-great visit with kids. Exciting they are even thinking of moving.
Vacuuming-my husband vacuumed very regularly. He did not work outside the home for a number of years before his death. He would vacuum, wash the dishes (didn't think we needed dishwasher), cook and do his own laundry (didn't want to mess up on my work clothes). I did stuff like dust, toilets, bedding, etc. It all worked out.
Katla-I am sorry you are frustrated. Nursing/care homes can be difficult to get into. It depends on insurance, the person's needed care level, whether they have openings. I'm sure your daughter checked all of that out and made the best choice she could.
Brother got released from hospital yesterday. Evidently he got out of bed in middle of night (Thursday) and fell. CT scans show no damage. We don't know if insurance was going to approve rehab family wanted. He will get in-home therapy at 0 co pay, so hopefully that works. We are hoping as anesthesia exits his system (and it can take some time) his confusion will lessen (at least go to preserver levels). However, this morning he is at home and excited that I am bringing his favorite pizza and watching the game with him. It's a noon kickoff so I need to get moving-he lives 20 or so minutes from me.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio3 -

Im lollygagging but will get some laundry done and get some stuff done around here today.. I say that and hopefully will get it done.. Nov 5th and the high will be 75 ,sheesh November? Know wonder people are getting sick..nobody knows how to dress for what kind of weather.2 -
Barbara I use a large toothed comb and a brush meant for wet hair when I wash my hair which is twice a week at most. In between I sprinkle a bit of orange essential oil on my hair brush. Doing this routine cut down on the tangles.
Mary You have taken the steps you can at this time to report her abuse. Now it is up to an outside agency to do their job. The power structure she lives in will more than likely do what they can to protect her. SAD but often true. She has shone her true colors and light will be on her now. It will be a matter of when not if she will no longer be able to get away with such behavior.
My wish for you is you now focus your energy on your own healing. You have so many tools you have learned over the years examples like diet...TENS... When you are stronger you can decide if there is more that needs to be done.
Mary surrounding you with healing prayers!
(((Katla)))
Kelly wonderful picture love the braided pigtails.
Allie This is why I have 5 different jackets and sweat shirts ready by the door this time of year we were in the 70's earlier this week and now we are in the forties.

Hello to All.
Jeannie-That's a good goal. I'm going to do that too. It's more reasonable than hitting a specific number for me.
But, just as the scale started creeping down, ever so slowly the past week, the past two days, it has skyrocketed up (comparatively speaking). I don't know what is happening.
Heather-I'm enjoying the photos!
Lanette-This is my favorite crispy chickpea recipe, so far. There is a picture of nuts, but it's actually the chickpea recipe. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/crispy-chickpeas-2257011
Alone time-I cherish mine and I have quite a lot of it, thankfully. However, when the mister is home, he makes noise. Sometimes talking to me, sometimes to himself. If he isn't talking, he's just making noise. Humming, mumbling, cursing, stomping around, listening to music loudly, or something. I noticed that when I am not in his vicinity (or he doesn't know I am paying attention to him), he is quiet as long as he's distracted by something (the news, his phone, etc.). As soon as I am near, he makes noise. I don't like noise, especially when it's not for good reason. I am very sensitive to it and I've had to work hard to "deal" with it. I think maybe he's afraid to be alone with his thoughts.
That said, I'm sure that like Ginny, I may miss it someday. I am working on trying to be more grateful.
As for vacuuming, I use a dry mop whenever possible and when I'm the one vacuuming (and I always am if it's happening at all), I don't mind so much. Probably because I know it's coming.
Cleaners-I loved having one, but it's been problematic for us. I had to let them go. I clean the kitchen, but I'm in there all the time. I sweep the floors now and then, but they never get mopped or polished. The windows are gross, his office is a cluttered mess, his bathroom is disgusting. I have my own bathroom and if I didn't, we would have a cleaner, no matter what.
Like Machka's husband, I also struggle with loud cars, motorcycles, dogs barking, loud TV and music volume (the worst), screaming children, etc. Fortunately, those are very temporary noises (with the exception of our neighbor's constantly barking dog-which a long temporary).
I think we'll have a quiet weekend. We went out last night to a loud place to meet friends and it was overwhelming for me (plus those guys talk about the most boring stuff-mostly work). Fortunately, our friend brought his 13 month old and I just took him and we walked around and "talked" and looked at stuff where it was less people-y and I managed. I think it was too much for the little one too.
Sending hugs to those in need and good vibes to everyone!

Barbara ... I tend to clean when my husband and son are out of the house. Not so much for the noise factor ... I have little sympathy if they don't like the noise (they're the ones making the mess after all) ... but I can't clean when people are in my way! My husband gives a hand every once in a while ... my son, not so much. But that's another issue. Truth is there are things we often do for those we love that seem strange or unacceptable to others ... but those are choices we make.
Katla ... my mother's room in the nursing home is filthy. I took photos yesterday. If everything works out with a Tuesday assessment by an assisted living facility we are waiting to contract with ... she should be moving on Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Mary ... the details of your assault are awful. I'm so very sorry this has happened to you!
Kelly ... you are beautiful!
Photos ... I love seeing everyone's photos!
Heather... living vicariously through you!
Lanette .. I was going to ask for a roasted chickpea recipe too. Karen ... have you made them? Who has a tried and true recipe? I feel like this is something that would be a good choice for my diabetic husband, but I only get one attempt at giving him new things. If he doesn't like it the first go around he won't try it again.
November Gratitude
#4 Food: Bread and butter
#5 Sound: With my hearing loss, this is a tough one ... my son's voices ... especially their laughter ... always brought me joy when I could hear them.
We are hopefully getting closer to moving my mom out of the nursing home into assisted living. The long term care side of the rehab facility she has been in since October is pretty grim and it is not a good fit for my mom. While the assisted living facility will be about 20 minutes from my home (compared to the 4 minutes now), the setting will be much more in keeping with my mom's mental acuity. She just needs to remember to always ask for assistance in her transfers from her wheelchair. No more independent movement. She will fall if she tries.
Busy days here. Thinking of all of you.

Happy Birthday Vicki!
WOOHOO PIP! Well done Kirby! I am truly impressed at how neat and clean that garage is. We can't get two cars in our three-car garage for all the crap our kids have left and WE have accumulated. A lot of it is Freddy's mom's stuff that he hasn't had the heart to get rid of yet. We're working on that. New pups seem to approve! How is Yogi doing?
Happy Birthday Ginny!

He works in a grocery store- the order gun is used to put in orders for their department- There are only six in the whole store. The orders all have to be in by I think 9AM so some people hide them to make sure they have one to get their orders in on time. They are supposed to be checked out and turned back into the office after the person is done with it but that doesn't happen. They charge the store $3,000 for each new one. They know 6 are in the store(they have a gps in them but not good enough to show exactly where in the store they are) and two are not in the store- most likely accidentally thrown away.
Glad you were finally able to get done with DMV- a huge step done. A great relief I am sure

Morning ladies
Thanks for starting us off on a new month Barbie, I have read the first few pages, but have some catching up to do.
I've been busy with the kittens, they are so messy! We were going to take them to the RSPCA once a kennel was available, but my friend Judy has decided she wants them - yes all three! She already has a cat and a dog, so hope they will be okay there. I'm sure they will be, but I feel a bit responsible for them now, they are starting to trust us a bit more and don't run and hide when we go into the room. Judy has arranged an appointment with the vet to give them a health check and to find out what sex they are. She is very experienced with cats as she has rescued feral kittens from the farm where she works with my daughter.
The mummy cat who is now called Poppy is going to be spayed next week and microchipped and will then become my mums cat instead of stray. I hope she realises this no more wandering the streets for her.
Take care and love to all
Viv UK
Up to P5
my mom now has 5 tiny kittens in her house- they were born in her greenhouse, or at least that is where she found them. Came running right to her and up her pants leg the first time they saw her, none ran away. She is planning on keeping all five(her room mate is still trying to give them away).
That is a lot but she is loving it. Loves all the love and attention from them. She needs that. Her little dog and my sister's dog that mom has been taking care of for years, are both fine with the kittens.
Great for this time of year, as the garden is gone now because of the frost, and she has more free time to hang out in the house with them.
Years ago they had four(the siblings to my big boy that passed away a few months ago). If she can keep up on the litter boxes, she will be fine.
Debbie
