Michele - Sounds like Mars is a wonderful company to work for. If a person gets with the right privately owned company, there are tons of benefits.
My hectic yet rewarding job story:When we moved to the Seattle area in 1977, the only job I could find was in the distribution department of New England Fish Company. Lots of shipping documents and reconciling frozen and canned inventory, which I loved.I was and still am an adrenaline junkie.
They went bankrupt -- come to find out they had plenty of assets, the bank that held their loans pulled a fast one. All the creditors got fully paid, plus interest. But the company's main sales folks left, many to start their own companies.
Anyhow, I was soon picked up by a very small seafood processor (5 person office) and distributor in Seattle with a plant in Kodiak, AK and worked as their shipping manager/sales administrator. Talk about lucky. When the company made money - and there was plenty during the King Crab explosion - we got big bonuses, money paid into profit sharing, invites to big Christmas parties with every kind of seafood imaginable and plenty of drink to wash it down, lol.
When King Crab died out a bit in the 80's, the bloom was off the rose and I was ready to move on - find something part time so I could enjoy life and work with the sheep. And I did.
The thing about the job was ... a person had to roll in the door before 6 AM because that's when the action started. Large retailers like Safeway and others in the US and throughout the world had to secure product for their ads. It was a madhouse for the first several hours most days -- arranging custom packing at the large Seattle cold storages, booking trucks and airline containers to get this perishable stuff moving.
So a person who wanted to sleep in or have a non-hectic casual atmosphere wouldn't have lasted long.

Betsy, hugs. There are no words. Cry with us anytime.
Mary, condolences on the death of your nephew. My sister lost her son at 30. All you can do is be there for your family.
Well, after 2 1/2 years of avoidance, I finally have Covid. No earthly idea where I picked it up. We got our flu shots 3 weeks ago and our Covid boosters 2 weeks ago. So far I seem to have a mild case, but I’m pretty sure I’ve passed it on to Dave. He tested negative yesterday but starting sneezing and has a sore throat today. I’ve on about Day 5. I am missing 3 very important events I was supposed to do, but it can’t be helped. I am learning they can get along without me.

Chilling in the living room while Corey tidies up the kitchen. We made beef enchiladas and cheese enchiladas in one pan, with his homemade enchilada sauce, and refried beans. The kitchen was a wreck, but the results should be glorious. He's such a good cook. I'm a ham-handed sous chef at best, but I'm capable of rolling cheese or beef up in a corn tortilla... and getting myself covered with enchilada sauce up to my elbows.
Already down to 33 degrees outside. After lunch, I was able to assist Corey with getting a load of wood racked and ready for firewood, but it kinda wore me down... so I spent the rest of the afternoon writing while he went to the grocery store for fresh veggies, etc. Had a kind of breakthrough, where I realized I needed to tear the whole website back down to the beginning and start again. Not unusual, and each of those spasms puts me further ahead in the end. All the past writing isn't lost, just edited and shifted.
Warm and cozy inside, and grateful for that...
Love y'all,

Mary: So very sorry for the sudden and very sad loss. Hugs to you and your family.
Heather: As always, such a joy to travel vicariously with you to exotic, historic ports. Cruise cravings are calling me. I've only been on one, and enjoyed every aspect of it.
Dr. Katie: Hope you and Dave have mild cases and are back to routines soon.
Betsy: Totally get it. Grief is cunning and sneaks up at some of my happiest moments involuntarily switching on the tear ducts. But then, it passes, and life goes on. Stay strong. Know we are here for you.
I got back into the gym today after seeing 3 extra pounds on the scale today. But every morsel consumed in Maui was delectable and factors into the some of the best memories of the trip.
Enjoying all the photos and gratitude lists. I'll give some thought and be back with mine. For now, I'm grateful to be home safe and sound in a warm place. We have bitterly cold temps here this weekend.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

I have had fun decorating for Christmas in my apartment. I found delightful items at a gift shop. This place had a terrific selection. My favorite was a Santa that is a charmer with an accompanying Teddybear in Santa clothes. Altogether Big Santa is about a foot and a half tall. Little Teddybear is about 6” sitting, or a little bit more. Both are in excellent condition.
At our next stop I found a lighted tree also about 2+ feet tall. Christmas decorating is done, and it brings holiday cheer to the room. 🎄8 -
Recd some cinnamon apple butter from a new friend on the island. I put some items on the give away site and she took them. She thanked me by giving me some apple butter. I feel blessed.🙏💖

I also have an idea of that trapped feeling. My husband doesn't need 24/7 care yet, but I feel "on duty" much of the time and I've taken on many of the responsibilities we've shared.
Plus, because of Worker's Compensation restrictions we can't leave our little island state. I'm looking forward to the day when we can finally go ... somewhere ... anywhere ... off this island.
Are you able to get respite care for a weekend or a week or something?

I share some plus if I keep them cool and dry, they will last until late spring and if they do sprout, they get planted. I love potatoes any way. DH isn't as much of a fan- he is half Japanese so of course, he wants his rice every day(not great for a diabetic-he and his mom both)
The German craft fair and dinner was pretty much a bust- only about 10 tables with crafts. I didn't buy anything- dh bought fudge to take to his mom.
Dinner was ok but not great. Was nice to go check out something different. And, because we were in town, we made the rounds to our favorite grocery stores and found some great bargains.
Today is 22 yrs since one of my best friend passed away- Laurie was just 38 yrs old, leaving a husband and three young kids. Hard to believe it has been that long. I was going to call her that day but told myself I would call her the next day. Her husband liked to get on the other phone and listen in when we talked. I never got a chance to call her that next day. Because of that, something I regret still, I tell people if you think about calling someone or seeing someone, DO IT- don't put it off. You never know if you will get another chance.
Her and I were friends from the first day of 5th grade. We went all through school together, including college. We both taught preschool and then did daycare(not together)
Military- I had a few uncles and cousins in the military. My favorite veteran is my best friend, who just happens to also be my former hubby- loved being a Coast Guard wife. Waiting on the dock for the ship to come in.
No rain today so walked MIL"s dog(haven't walked him for a few weeks). Between that and shopping, I hit over 10,000 steps again today.
cool here but I am warm because I have a fat cat on my lap. Hard to reach the keyboard with Tonashi on my lap

Awake early. Reading the thread in the living room. I will make us both a cup of tea in a minute. We have that and half a banana each before we go to the gym st 7 am. About 55 minutes there. Then we come back to the breakfast the butler brings to our room.
It's my subjective impression that I haven't put any weight on this cruise. I arrived on board feeling uncomfortably fat, but I've either got used to it, or I have lost a pound in two. I have drunk alcohol, which I've thoroughly enjoyed, top class bottles, which pile on the calories, but I've coped with the never ending delicious food by cutting out nearly all carbs. So, no bread, cakes, desserts, biscuits, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. I have two tiny petits fours at the end of my dinner.
Gym, walking, lots of stairs, LOTS, dancing twice a day. I'm feeling comfortable in my clothes.
My big hit of the cruise has been my faux leather leggings. Loving them!

Debbie, - Curious if your husband is jealous of your relationship with your ex? And if you have any regrets? We have an amusing situation here - my ex-husband is not only a wonderful co-grandparent, but a good friend to both me & my spouse. We go out to lunch together and exchange gifts, etc. My spouse and my ex have their own friendship and communication without me in the middle. I know we are weird, but I don't actually care. It works for us.

Sunday
We went to a beekeeper meeting this morning. I always learn something at the meetings and we usually get some practice with the bees.
Last month, I met a lady who is a fellow beekeeper but who also makes jewellery. I met her again at a craft show a couple weeks ago, and then bought two pieces online. She brought them to the meeting this morning. They're gorgeous! The one on the right changes colour in the light.
And then it started raining so we went our separate ways. My husband and I did a little shopping, then came home and I napped.
Last week was tiring. I'm still not sleeping really well. So a nap seemed like the thing to do.

30 Days of Gratitude
1. Smell - freshly cut grass on our lawn.
2. Technology - the amazing advancements in medical technology.
3. Colour - blue. Beautiful blue sky peaking through the clouds.
4. Food - soup. That's what I've been eating just recently because there's less chewing. We always keep a few cans of soup on hand for situations like these.
5. Sound - my music. I've recently acquired a number of nature sounds CDs with music playing along with sounds of ocean waves, birds, and so on. Lovely.
6. Nature - I love nature. It would be incredibly difficult for me to pick just one thing. I am so grateful that there is nature and that I can enjoy it.
7. Memory - Winter 2017. The last time I visited my parents and a wonderful 1-month holiday to Canada that June/July. My husband and I did two cycling events and a lot of other cycling. We climbed mountains and explored a glacier. We visited friends and family.
Memories:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157682899188730
8. Book - Norman Doidge's The Brain's Way of Healing. I found it inspirational!
https://www.normandoidge.com/?page_id=1042
9. Place - home. I've moved and travelled a lot and home is wherever I happen to feel really comfortable. Right now, home is a certain house here in Tasmania where I can go and just be myself (mostly, for even a little while). Home is where I can lie down on the sofa and doze off when I've had a rough day, like I did yesterday.
10. Taste - salt. My favourite taste. On the one hand I need salt because of my exercise and medications, on the other hand I need to reduce my salt because of my kidneys. But given the choice, I'll usually go salty over sweet ... or maybe salty and sweet!
11. Holiday - Christmas!!!!
12. Texture - smoothness. I like smooth clothes, smooth sheets, Rhody's smooth fur ...
13. Abilities - I don't really think of myself in terms of having abilities. I've sort of thought of myself as "the jack of all trades, master of none". However, organisation is one that I've been thankful for throughout my life.

Good morning ladies
Machka - I love hearing about your bees. What do they feed on in your area? Around here, invasive blackberries have taken over. But, the bees love the flowers and "Blackberry Honey" is delicious. Does anyone remember that gal from New Zealand who was on here for a while who had hives placed among Manuka bushes and had a thriving market for the honey-shipped a lot to China? Have any of you ever tried Manuka honey? I guess it has a lot of healthful properties.
Flea, Katiebug (and Dave) praying your Covid is mild and you recover quickly. Good idea contacting your docs.
Heather - You are a talented watercolorist. And as I'm getting farther into "French Women Don't Get Fat" I'm really jealous that you have markets you can walk to and get fresh items. At least fresher than what I pick up on my weekly trips to the mega Walmart & Safeway supermarkets. During the summer there are weekly farmer's markets in our little towns with a lot of organic produce.
Rosemarie and others whose lives revolve around caregiving - ((((HUGS)))
The Woodpile: I kicked into gear yesterday and got a lot of wood moved into the woodshed. Probably 1/3 of the pile. I'm a little stiff and sore this morning but nothing is numb so I'll attack it again when it warms up today.
The pieces of wood are pretty small, but the woodstove is tiny and can't take logs over 12" anyhow. All I need is enough dry wood to burn and add some warmth to the living room. These mill ends work great.Woodpile in the morning with Rosie supervising:
Woodpile at the end of the day - now enough room to get the mower through:
Kill a Watt - my gosh this thing is lots of fun. So far it has measured around 7 KWH running 24 hrs in Kitty's shop. I'm projecting it will cost around $15 per month to heat that space, which is OK since it's not only keeping Kitty warm, but also tools and various things I don't want to freeze or get too cold out there.
And this laptop doesn't take much juice at all. Plugging in the tablet or phone to charge them thru the USB cord ups it a little bit. Interesting that when they were charged and removed, I could see the usage go down. Just having the cords still plugged in without the devices hooked up still used some current. Not a lot, but enough to see. Lesson here is unplug things I'm not using.
I can't measure the electricity the heat pump and water heater burn through with this device, but I've worn a trail to the side of the house reading the meter and subtracting the items I can measure and can project the bill from there.
I think this would make a good Christmas gift for anyone that's a little Nerdie - and it's a neat way to show kids and grandkids the benefits of turning things off and unplugging especially as power rates rise in some areas. It's on Amazon, and not too pricey.
That's the latest.
Have a great rest of your weekend.

@SophieRosieMom ...
We have fresh fruit and vegetables markets here too. Markets as in shops and markets as in Farmers Markets.
Salamanca Fresh is the main one we go to.
https://www.salamancafresh.com.au/
I have used Manuka honey. It is produced here as well. That link above may show that Salamanca Fresh sells some.
Bees like most flowers and apparently especially purple or blue flowers. We're in an area where a lot of people have gardens full of flowers so the bees are quite happy. They will fly in a 2km radius from a hive and some have been tracked further so ours will also get gum trees when they flower.

I went shopping for my favorite breakfast items yesterday, cottage cheese and blueberries. I also bought a little artificial Christmas tree for my apartment, along with a Santa and little Teddy bear we found in a gift shop. Christmas decorating is done, and it is still November.🎄 I hope I will be able to visit DH today. Fingers crossed for good luck. 🤞🏻 🤞🏻 🤞🏻4
