Wow thanks for the note on the Stella! I will have to look for it. I still have one more I bought and have not tried yet. Athletic Brewing Co. Free Wave. Anyone try this one?
So darn that cocktail smoker. I made another smoky old fashioned last night along with a bowl of smoked popcorn. It really was good.
Now I want to smoke some slices of cheddar, gouda and swiss. I will let you know how that turns out. Today is a planned A day for DH and I.
After today's outing we chatted this morning and are putting away the temptations at least during the week and allow an A day on the weekend. We both will feel better about it. my AF days are too low this month.
It would be so GOUDA-U to invite us to your cheese smok'n event. Don't ya think??
Art world is going good. I finally have floor space in the one gallery and am working there off and on.
Have my sights on another classier gallery not to far from my location. And will contact the owner another day.
I went to her gallery anniversary gathering Friday night and tried to speak to her in between her one closed eye and her almost spilling her wine on me I have up and took her business card instead.
Will keep you posted.

@Lilylady3k smart to try keeping everyone apart until you see how much COVID has or hasn't spread. I read somewhere, or maybe it was a Dr who told me, that the BA.5 variant incubation period is less variable than prior strains that could incubate up to 2 weeks. BA.5 incubates 2 days. If you're symptom free and negative after that, you didn't contract it in that exposure (though, of course, subsequent exposures require corresponding waits). I hope you guys are in the clear and SIL is weathering it.
@ahoy_m8 - Well we think we were exposed to Covid at the wedding on 12/3. My son in law was not feeling well Wed and tested positive for COVID on Thursday morning. 102 fever which broke on Friday. My daughter and the baby came over Thursday morning when he tested positive because they tested negative and tried to steer clear. BUT they both tested positive today Sunday a week after the wedding. SIL's parents which were the groom's parents at the wedding also tested positive today. I tested negative yesterday but have a terrible headache (my symptom last time I had it) ... so testing again tomorrow. DH tested negative today. We'll see ... we held our granddaughter a lot over the last 4 days.

Question: where was this boat parade you attended? Packing picnic basket sounds like a fun idea this time of year
[/quote]
@MissMay - I live in the Florida Keys so it's almost always picnic weather!
Funny that I found Stella NA at the same time it popped up in this chat. I would absolutely get it again.
Tonight was interesting for me. I'm in Miami and on my own. This would usually be an occasion to enjoy some wine but instead I bought some Q Hibiscus Ginger Beer. Really liked the spicy/sweet mix. I am binging on the Crown rather than food and wine!
Goal: 15 AF days, no more than 2 drinks, only drink at events
AF: 12/2-8, 10 - 11
A: 12/1, 9
7 -
@Lilylady3k oh NO not again! The whole family? Ugh take care and feel better.5
-
@bover145 oh yes you are getting the nicer weather for a boat parade. I am up in the panhandle of Florida, raining heavy now and rain expected most if the week.
Good to know that Stella NA is in my home state. Would love to make it down to the keys. So far Orlando is the longest trip South we have traveled since moving here.
My accountability for December:
1-A
10-AF

Ate a lot of garbage today but kept my calories pretty much at my current goal anyway. Back on track tomorrow. Enjoyed a nice walk at Edith L Moore Nature Sanctuary, we had the place to ourselves. After, I got a good chunk of work done on my project. Screwed it up already but not in a critical way, I don't think. I'll re-evaluate in the morning and figure out what I'm going to do.
AF tonight. Rare for a Sunday, I usually drink while listening to DarkWave...dunno why I didn't, just didn't. In a way, I'd rather I had but there's no point now. Off to bed.

Hello all! I’m Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃
12/1-12/7: 7 out of 7 AF
12/8:AF
The pain is no joke today, yesterday was my first day back at home and I may have done too much. They only give a 2 day supply of narcotic pain meds, otherwise it’s Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I guess it’s Netflix and chill today for me!
12/9: AF
Pain is still here. I wonder if I did too much? I feel like all I did was sit around. I had a friend come visit me, we used to go to the bar together 3 nights a week and get hammered. We talked about all the stupid things we did under the influence and wonder how we made it out unscathed. Neither of us drink anymore. And we both realized last night we are fine with it!
12/10: AF
Healing, healing, healing. Yesterday was rough.
12/11: AF

@joans1976 I'm sending healing vibes. You are taking it day by day and surely you will start to feel better soon.
This is my 12th day AF. Observations:
I look and feel better. Have lost 2 lbs. It should be more but we bought a bread machine and I am just having so much fun making (and eating) the warm bread that it has stymied any more weight loss. I have to limit myself to just one slice a day at this point.
I am FEELING more. I heard a children's choir singing the most beautiful Christmas hymn on the radio and I just had tears rolling down my cheeks. I find myself crying tears of gratitude during my morning meditation, or even just for no reason at all it seems. I think this is because when we drink to numb the bad going on in our lives, we also numb the good. Alcohol isn't choosy; it just numbs it all. Now I am aware of all this beauty around me. I am taking pleasure in things I was too hungover or numb or depressed to even notice. It's like in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy's world comes into color. I have more awareness of everything. I am definitely getting cravings, and they are very specific; champagne one day, a bloody Mary another time. But I "play the entire movie" as I said the other day, and it goes away. I am hoping the month I have committed to AF becomes longer, but I am not making any plans other than getting through the end of the year. One day at a time, as they say.

@joans1976 sorry to hear you’re in pain. I truly hope it subsides quickly. I did have to laugh at your “Netflix and Chill” comment. At first I thought “Dang girl, you’re Superwoman!”
@Lilylady3k i hope you and your family feel better soon!
@mfowler883 it seems counterintuitive to eat more to lose weight, doesn’t it? I struggle to get enough protein. Never seem to have problems with getting enough delicious bready carbs though!
Speaking of which, holy cow this 54 year old broad is PMSing so hard. The sugar (and therefore alcohol and bread) cravings are off the charts! 2 wines Friday (1 at each event I went to), 2 Saturday night and 3 yesterday! One was finishing up the Christmas decor, and 2 were “Happy Hour/ just because” at home watching TV. To top it off, my go to NA drink of club soda and cranberry was making me feel way too bloated and full, so I didn’t even enjoy that. Guys, it’s bad. I am having so much difficult reining it in this month. Oh and 3 more years of this *kitten*. My mom was 57 when she finally hit menopause. Ugh.5 -
This group really helps me hold myself accountable, plus everyone is absolutely great. My monthly goal is 16-19 AF days (3A days max weekly) for weight loss and overall health. I post in the mornings about the previous day.
12/5: AF
12/6: AF
12/7: Drinks (2)
12/8: AF
12/9: Drinks (3)
12/10: Drinks (2)
12/11: AF - I had an NA Lagunitas with homemade chili and a salad with pomegranate seeds (yummy!). I wanted to but didn't snack after dinner (yay!).
Rolling Total: 6 AF Days out of 115 -
@Womona there are even worse bad words than that for menopause.
Just when I thought I was close to being done, my body said NOPE let's do this for a while more.
I believe the healthier and in shape you are the longer it will be around.
It even gave me a positive on a pregnancy test about 3 years ago 🤯
The sugar cravings along with any forms of chocolate are strong too. It does not help that this season is full of goodies.
Deep breath through it all

@SunnyDays930 your post had my eyes getting misty as I read it. And it is so true.
Take in those little things and experience them full throttle.
Yesterday morning on my back patio I kept admiring this bright red cardinal sitting so quietly in my neighbors tree.
I was thinking, who from the past is watching over me while I sit here? Then I went up stairs and looked out the upper windows, it was a giant red leaf. LOL
Not having alcohol definitely leaves our minds more open to absorb the smaller things in life to ponder and enjoy.( love your reference to Wizard Of Oz)
Way to go on that 12th day AF

I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Friday December 09 - Drinks including a Rye Manhattan
Saturday December 10 - Drinks including a Stinger with Rye instead of Cognac. Busy week with late nights ahead starting Tuesday, may try to stay AF until the weekend.
Sunday December 11 - AF - I was really wanting a Stinger while I stood whisking a Roux from blonde to caramel to dark to put into my Jambalaya and Gumbo that I was making. Once I started stirring I couldn't stop to create a drink, otherwise I would have had a drink in one hand and whisk in the other. Busy week, maybe AF all week until the weekend.

Hello and good morning to some and afternoon to others? LOL
Started week 11 of my 12 week program and boy I could tell I definitely had alcohol yesterday. I just did not preform to where I think I should have been....Or maybe my good body is taking over the bad body and just not going to tolerate the A the day before workouts.
So moving forward this will be another reason I drink less and less. I want to get around to do that push up and pull up.
I did smoke some swiss cheese this am and tasted it....ok I am not going to lie it was good. Last night I smoked a tulip glass and drank some diet tonic water with bitters. What a difference.
was it you @MissMay that says the glass makes the drink???? So true true true
Ok I am off for now7 -
Hello all, I am having a rough day emotionally and decided to check in on my MFP friends during the day which I usually only check in the morning while Im having my coffee. I am feeling mighty sorry for myself today. I am having financial problems that I am not seeing much of a way out of and every day I get sent new bills for the cancer treatment. My armpit is very painful and I was told today by a nurse this could last for months due to nerves and what was done during surgery. I was told last week that I would get results of the things that were removed during the surgery today or tomorrow but was told today that I wont get results until next week. It has been 4 weeks since my genetic testing, which determines my cancer treatment and I was told it would take 2-3 weeks. I called and they said to just try to be patient. I am depressed and feel isolated.
So. Then I read all of your well wishes on here and I thought "how kind, these people dont have to say these things but they are." I also realized I am 45 days sober which is the longest I have gone since....2018? I cant even remember. It is not very hard, I couldnt imagine being hungover right now in this amount of pain but there have been moments since I have been diagnosed where I would like to forget all my worries and alcohol could maybe help me with that but it is so temporary. I also have a refrigerator full of food, a roof over my head, a purring cat in my lap and had three friends visit this weekend and all were so good to me. When I met with my oncology surgeon in the beginning of November, the first words out of his mouth were "this is 100% curable." I need to hang on to that like a life preserver! Things are not so bad.
Thank you so much for all your kind words, they mean the world to me!11 -
@Womona Geez and ew and yuck I am sorry to hear about the menopause situation! After my radiation treatment I will be put into early menopause (Im 46) due to a pill I have to take for 5-10 years to prevent recurrence. Apparently it makes you gain weight no matter how hard you try to eat right and exercise. This is very depressing to me as I have lost 50 pounds since April and had about 50 more to go. Besides all of the weight gain troubles I hear of hot flashes and mood changes. Were you able to eat better before menopause? Is menopause new to you? I hate cravings, I am struggling with these chocolate peppermint covered Oreos they sell at Aldi this time of year. Many hugs to you!5

@SunnyDays930 Happy 12th day! I loved your post! My mom had a bread maker when I was in high school and she made this fabulous dill bread and it made the house smell so lovely. She loved that she could just throw everything in and out came a perfect loaf. Eventually it started walking across the counter on its own and she got rid of it and never replaced it. Hugs to you!6
