I guess I was convinced 5 years ago when a cardiologist told me that I was young and healthy and a cardiac stress test would be a waste of tax payer money.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my Canadian test results, including a cardiac stress test which showed "something" and an echocardiogram which showed so much of "something" the doctor supervising the test invited in a class of interns to have a look and recommended I go through a battery of tests every 5 years. I've never been able to get those results because my doctor at the time lost them and then left the practice.
I do know that I had rheumatic fever at the age of 4 which resulted in a heart murmur (heard by many different doctors over the years), and another doctor discovered 2 damaged valves ... lightly damaged, not seriously damaged ... not long before I left Canada.
Nevertheless, this cardiologist listened to my heart for about 5 seconds, told me there was no heart murmur and likely never was, and most definitely did not want to do any further tests.
So now I just presume that the stabbing pain between the shoulder blades, the seizing tightness around my upper belly (abdomen) which makes very difficult to breathe, the nausea, sweating, dizziness, fatigue, neck pain, and left jaw pain ... which I get every so often and which lasts anywhere from about 15 to 30 minutes, and which scares the crap out of me ... is just a muscle spasm.
Because the cardiologist should know best ... right?
@kymarai ... I am so glad you're getting these tests, and kinda wish I had a doctor who would send me for them too. For peace of mind if nothing else.

I'd like to tone up a bit and lose 5 lbs before an event next month. Then, another 5 lbs and more tone before another event in May. I'm looking for some home workout tips for a real beginner. I have some workout accessories, i.e. hand weights, bands, stability ball, kettles, etc. but I've never found a plan that I'll do. With that, I guess an accountability partner may help too. Any tips or plans that have worked for you? Let me know. Thanks!

I have done many tasks by phone, but have gotten little exercise. I plan to go to the college with horses and a pond now and walk. Then I plan to go to the food bank and drop off my husband's liquid food. The food bank said they wanted this. This afternoon I will head to a local B&B and enjoy the spartan, cleanliness of the room I chose. I have been to this room before. The clutter of the house is beyond my physical ability to clean it right now. The ALS Association will come get the hoyer lyft. The yard man took the bed. He is going to take it for metal scrap. A friend will have breakfast with me tomorrow at the B&B.
The friend that has gone a little crazy on me wishes me well. But I am not going to text her for a couple of weeks. This is almost a second loss. But she is not interested in these small details I am posting about. She could care less about the details of the Celebration of Life ceremony. Doesn't ask anything about my high school friends that are coming to visit me....she is just very self centered. My family does not care about the details either. They have their own lives to lead.
I do appreciate the well wishes I have received here! And if people skim over this post rather than fully reading it, I totally understand!

I'm so far behind on reading. I got home from the Panama Canal cruise last night. It was wonderful and my son and I enjoyed everyday. Today I'll pick up Ella from the kennel and just relax into being home. Feels great to be home.

Evelyn – I have a feeling that kids don’t know what they’re putting their moms thru. Denise hasn’t brought PJ to see us once in the 3 years he’s been alive. She has no idea (and probably doesn’t care) how much it hurts me. But that’s life. I know that even as babies, we always once a year took a 2 day drive to see my in-laws (all 3 kids). That was funsville when the kids were being potty trained!! I had to have not only their clothes packed for when we get there, but I also had to have an overnight bag for each of the kids. And she can’t make a 9 hour one day trip! Wouldn't surprise me if Pete's mother thinks that she shoudn't.
Doing a load of laundry right now and then will probably go to the pool for a bit.
I am doing a xstitch for Jess for Christmas, only I made a mistake and marked with pencil on the cloth. Does anyone know how to get pencil out of fabric?

Vince walked around the parking lot three times today. Saturday it was twice. I sort-of told him that he was going to be walking tonight mainly because they play this game, Horseracing, in the clubhouse. I played 2 weeks ago just to see what it was all about. Honestly, I wasn’t impressed so Vince walking and needing me as a motivator was my excuse why I couldn’t go. They did want me to return and I really didn’t want to
Barbara and Debbie – I have heard of peeling the outside of the broccoli stalks before cooking them. Never tried it but it makes sense. When you get frozen broccoli, there are always parts of the stems.
Evelyn – sending pip’s boot to Rebecca’s son made me snort my water! Brilliant idea

Went in the pool, got the bill (finally!) from the guy who removed the bushes and plugged and seeded the lawn. We’ll probably send him the payment from here. When we get back we’re going to have some excavating work but by someone else. This guy is a really nice guy, but I really need to know how much I have in my “landscape” fund for other projects.

My grandson turned 13 today! Can't believe how the years have flown by! We are going to his favorite Japanese restaurant tonight where most of the family will eat Sushi and my DH and I will order other things.

Well as I type ,,my dear friend in Florida is probably in transition, another friend flew down to be with her who is a wonderful sage yoga guru and sear. And I know Mary is in great hands.. ugh,with all this death around me and most of it of people my age it makes me feel how so very blessed I have been thus far.. I have a sleeping baby on my shoulder
Tracy has me watching montisorri videos so we can go this route of teaching. I didn't know I was getting into this all over again..

Rosemarie I hear what you are saying you want your grief to be honored by your friends. Friends often do not know what to say When we lost our son they would tell me their own stories or offer a book for me to read. In hind sight I wish I said I am sorry for your loss; right now I am grieving and need to hear your story at another time. I found I was placed in situations where I was comforting them. I know they just wanted to make it better. So now when someone passes I tell the person this is your grief and however you need to grieve is okay. I try to include a story about their loved one of how they touched my life. I touch base with them and let them lead the conversation. I also know I will not send them a Peace Lily.
After a few weeks I found my own book that helped me It is Okay to not be Okay. I also remember reading when I was depressed some day you will enjoy the geraniums (insert flower of your choice) again. Others tend to want you to be Okay often too soon.
Allie I taught in public school for 25 years so I do understand why parents want to home school. If Tracey decided to do it she needs to take total responsibility. I respect those who are willing to take on this job. It is not always easy to teach your own child because of the layer you are the parent, and it is hard to be objective. Power struggles can make it hard both as a classroom teacher or home school teacher. That is why it is important to find others who are home schooling to find support and ideas.
Your job is to be the grandma not his school teacher. The best thing you can do for him is read to him and listen to him. Play with him and as others said let learning be fun cook with him, take him to parks, museums. Giving him experiences and love is the best way to prepare him for whatever school setting he ends up learning in. He needs a grandma not another teacher.

Allie ~ Barbie and Margaret are right. And, as others have commented, Miles can learn a lot without the home schooling idea. I can remember when my son was a toddler and we went to the store, he would point to everything and say "What's that." That was a huge learning experience in itself. From what you have told us, Tracy and her husband are constantly taking Miles places and exposing him to new things. Each of these is a learning experience. You have been such a wonderful grandmother and will continue to be I know. It's not fair for Tracy to put this on you.

Rosemarie ~ From bits of what you have mentioned, I think you must live close to Macon GA. I do know that there are horses on the campus of Weslyan U. as my sister-in-law used to go there to ride. Rosemarie ... I lost a son two years ago and while the circumstances are much different than yours, I had been his caregiver for much of his life. I am interested in all that you're going through. You are supported here.

Katla, You sound so much happier and more relaxed now that you have your MFP identity fixed. I know you never left but seeing your name and Schooner's picture is even better.
Mary, there is a clear peanut taste in my recipe. It is a lot like the one Karen posted by not quite as many spices.
Ginny, I don't like dark meat chicken or turkey except in slow cooker recipes. I tried substituting white meat once and didn't like it.
My doctor visit yesterday went great. We agreed that I would continue Fosomax for one more year beyond the usual five year protocol since my bone density was improving and see what a bone density test next January says. Nothing troubling on lab work and heart and lungs fine. I'll see her again in a year.
Today I go for a regular dental check up. I hate hands in my mouth, but I like the dentist so it will be fine.
Like Machka, I see food as a regular part of my life, not entertainment or recreation so I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it and making plans.
I eat breakfast while reading and responding to MFP and some other sites on the computer so I have to put my spoon down while I use the mouse or keyboard. I eat my supper while riding the exercise bike and watching TV so my eating is slowed by my attention being captured by what I'm watching. Since I prepare only the planned single portion for myself, there is no change that I will mindlessly overeat since when the bowl is empty, the meal is over.
Kylia, sorry to hear of your troubling medical test results. We live in an age of miraculous medical procedures. My husband is alive and doing well almost 20 years after a scary test result and excellent medical care. Hang in there.
Karen, loved your recipe. Mine is similar but fewer ingredients and starts with raw chicken and sauce ingredients in the slow cooker and six hours later it is delicious.
Rosemary, one of the great things about this thread is that you can share all the details of everything. There will be people who will listen and respond making this a safe place. I need to know what you are going through because some day that will be where I am in my life.

It is 1:15 pm here in Illinois, and I’m sitting in DH’s room watching him sleep. 💖
Our furniture and other well-loved items are headed this way in a big truck. I’m looking forward to sitting in my favorite blue leather chairs while I watch TV. One chair is for me and another for DH or a guest. I’ll be able to spend time with family members and have found a local group of nice friends.
I don’t know how long it will take our things to arrive from Oregon. I can’t wait to see them. 😊7 -

Then say NO! It is not your job or your responsibility to take care of or educate your grandson. You have generously put taking care of Miles ahead of your own desires. Tracy and her husband made the decision to have another child. It is their responsibility to provide for him. Not yours.

Have you tried Chicos? I order petite sizes from them online and they have a very nice selection. Bit pricey but well made clothing line. I'm from Canada....love reading through the comments on this group.2 -

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
Margaret, you are SO right! "Others tend to want you to be Okay often too soon." We found the same thing when Shawn died. I really hate the phrase "new normal" too. Please, the last thing we wanted was this to become normal. We were fighting for our lives right then. Just let us do us. We'll get around to figuring out the rest... someday. So, I'm really interested in the peace lily story though... there has to be a story there. I love mine. It's still blooming. In fact, it's blooming right now and reminds me of Shawn and the wonderful people who gave it to us.
Rosemarie, we're all so very interested in every aspect of your journey. We're here for you.

I got my new stationary bike Yay! My dad helped me put it together. We didn't get the straps onto the pedals, but that's minor. It's quiet and sturdy and just a lovely thing. I hope to do ten minutes on it later tonight before my dumbbells.
