I work at an Indian restaurant. Which veggie dish did you have?2 -
Thanks for keeping us going (and accountable) @MissMay
I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 16AF days for the shortened month of February.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Sunday March 05 - AF after an indulgent first weekend feeling healthy and active in awhile. Doctor's appointment about my sore ankle Monday morning, then back to work at the restaurant for the first time since Covid. Time to get some AF days in!!
Rolling total: 2AF day out of 5 days.4 -
This week I want to finish touching up the edges of the guest bathroom paint (painted new color last November). I have been procrastinating since then, how very silly!
Scheduled are some in-person and zoom meetings this week, then a dinner planned with my adult children for DS’s and DSIL’s birthday’s on Friday. These thirty somethings are all doing LA on their own but never suggest that others should as well. I find that pretty incredible and yet they were instrumental in helping me to start thinking about it a few months ago. We are all learning how to have fun together without drinks.
Planning no A this week until Sat. night.
March accountability: Goal is 20-23 AF days
AF - 4
A - 1
No more than 2 glasses on A day
Have a good week ahead!

Hey my wonderful less A village! It's Monday LOL just a reminder in case anyone reading this forgets where they are...just a PSA hehehe
I did have my lunch beer yesterday. We are slowly saying goodbye to our favorite haunts as we prepare to leave. But sticking to my resolve that is my trend now (not a year ago) to have my two beers then home and not to continue to drink into the evening. So I feel good about that. Next will be to pair those lunch dates down to 1x per week. Then who knows where this will take me. DH's having a drink in the evenings surprisingly does not tempt me.
Today when it warms up a bit, it is tag the items in our garage for packing, tossing or on the fence as maybe's if there is room.
DH is having some dental work this afternoon so no real work today.
hope to pop back on later this week......hugs to everyone7 -
I'm still around here - just reading your posts and enjoying them. You inspire me!
I have had 5 days A and 1 day AF in March.
I also broke my leg this weekend, so I will be sedentary for awhile. I was craving this afternoon but have no means to get to the fridge because I am on crutches- won't be able to fill a glass of wine and take it to the couch! Not a bad thing:)

Noooooooo! I’m so sorry to hear you broke your leg! Heal well and quickly!
The visual of anyone attempting to use crutches with an open glass of wine in their hand is pretty funny! No way to transport it without spilling!4 -
AF tonight, didn’t even want it. Also did great on the food and exercise front!8
-
I haven't been doing very well on my AF days, only one so far this month but I am motivated today to get back on track. It is still early in the month and there is plenty of time to turn this around. I think I am just bored being stuck inside with this cold weather. I also cooked Schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce and spaeztle last night so I had to have beer with that!
I am really looking forward to day light savings and things warming up so I can get back on a running schedule. Having that routine is always helpful to me.
Won't be having any A today so I am actually 2AF/6 including today.6 -

@RubyRed427 I feel for you and hope you recover fast....sending big hug!3 -
@RubyRed427 ...A broken leg is no fun at all...unless it happens when you are scheduled to move, then others have to do all the work...it's all in the timing...Yep, I milked it...Heal swiftly !!
I used to take a small carafe of wine, a book, & a glass to the upper deck at my beach house after work. Chill, sip, watch the boats on the Bay. Hummingbirds were a pesky issue. "Shoo away from my glass, feathered creature !!" My daughters gifted me with a wine glass enclosed in plastic, kinda like an adult "sippy cup". No spill, no avian incursions.
No longer need or use it...no deck-no beach-no nightly wine. Should I put it on "LA Bay" ?? @RubyRed427 want ??
@joans1976...Just donate the large-size outfits and, as suggested, take the tax credit. Dithering over it will not help your weight loss, and may impede your progress. "I may get heavy again...I might need them later...spent SO much money"...When you get thru this cancer treatment and back to "normal" life those clothes will be useless. The new life you will be living will be more important than a few outdated clothes.
Oh, and it's none of my bizness...but after treatment is done, GET A FRICKIN' NEW JOB!!! 1001 hugs.
The "6 minute" desire to imbibe ? Okay. It passes. But for me it comes back during the next hour...and the hour after that...Going to bed early to combat cravings...Dang...I'm going to bed at 3 pm ??
Discovered that my favorite packaged "Hindu Meals" have more than doubled in price lately, I'm looking at recipes and finding that the required spices are already in my pantry. My home is going to be smelling quite fragrant now !!
Bibbs, Middle Daughter's marmalade feral rescue cat, is still living indoors. SIL can pet and brush, MD is not allowed to touch, although Bibbs follows her everywhere, including bathroom, and playing solitaire. The "only using boxes of dirt for elimination" continues. I've given up on suggestions for easing him into using kitty litter. It would only lead to screaming and shaking . The last time MD took my advice was when she was 5 years old. That was a half century ago. Their other rescue cat, Mother Scrappy, will play, chase wand toys, and run amok....Meanwhile, Bibbs will watch this activity with a "WTF" look on his furry face. It's very puzzling for him....
Another 60+ degree day with the window open for Catpuccino, then back to 40-50 for a while. On the lookout for the lilies of the valley under my pear tree as a Spring alert.

Hello! I’m Amanda, I’m a crazy cat lady from Michigan! I joined this forum in June of 2022 and since September I have decreased my drinking to one day a month! This is a huge accomplishment from where I was and I absolutely could not have done it without the wonderful mix of people in this group!
March goals: just make it through the month unscathed! (27 doctor appointments)
Alcohol goals: 95-100% AF
3/1: AF
Yesterday was a rough one but I didn’t even think about having a drink. Radiation continues to suck the life out of me but I can’t fight it, I have to do this. After today I will be halfway through treatment!
It’s almost Friday!
3/2: AF
Yesterday was a tough day on the radiation front. Skin breakdown and fatigue affecting my daily routines. I have 10 more sessions of radiation, or 2 weeks and then those effects can continue for up to 4 more weeks. I’m trying to manifest the complications away!
29 days AF
3/3: AF
Big blizzard here. March in Michigan. I hope anyone else who was hit by it has power and is warm and cozy and safe.
3/4: AF
31 days AF
3/5: AF
I’m having this crazy need to purge things in my house. Every drawer and every closet. I lost 50 pounds last year and I have clothes with the tags still on them that I would like to sell but I feel like maybe that’s tempting fate? I haven’t gained the weight back but I haven’t lost any since my diagnosis either. And I’m tired of looking at these clothes!
I hope everyone had a good weekend and your week is off to a good start!
3/6: AF
So I ended up in the ER yesterday due to some unrelenting arm pain and numbness (no diagnosis but not a stroke or neurological issue-likely side effect of radiation) and had to call off work. So I asked the doctor for a work excuse note (just to cover my *kitten*) and she stopped and said “really? You have cancer and you’re in the ER and your boss wants a note?” And I said quietly “I work for a psychopath.” And she replied “I’m putting the middle finger emoji in the note.” Lol it’s the little things people can say or do when you’re having a tough time that make a difference.14 -
@RubyRed427 I am so sorry to hear about your leg. Is your pain under control? Are you able to sleep at night? Geez oh man that’s too bad! Sending healing vibes your way!
@forestdweller1 A new job timeline has been formed and if I’m not too tired at night I job hunt and polish up the resume. I ideally want to be out of there by the end of April. I just need to be able to say to an employer confidently that I am reliable and know (to myself) that none of this cancer *kitten* is going to cause problems.
I’m so jealous of your 60 degrees, we get 37 and rain all week here. Brighter days ahead! I too am looking for the bright green of spring poking it’s head through the gray of the winter earth!5 -

Thanks for link on sleep. Number three on my list (more AF, weight, sleep). Cherry Tart juice sounds interesting.

Same here on weather and getting that extra hour of sunshine. Unfortunately here in Maryland it says low 50's at best next two weeks. Saturday was so nice here, 72 I think.
Last two days were AF. Today should not be a problem. Wednesday evening will be tougher. Wife has to spend the night over her daughters house watching the grandkids. She is not a fan of my drinking. While she rarely brings it up, when I emerge from my downstairs man-cave she knows instantly if I have been drinking by my eyes. She has valid concerns as her first husband turned into a heavy drunk and got abusive. So, my natural pattern when she is out of town is to drink more since the "cat is away". Strategy will be "busy" myself to make it an AF. Will see.
10 -
@pokey4321 staying busy is a good idea!
@joans1976 so sorry to hear you landed in the ER!!! Big hug! I love the doctor’s middle finger emoji in your notes. Hilarious! Yes, these bursts of humanity are the stuff of life. Hope your arm feels better soon, you’re almost done! As for the clothes, I hear ya. Most things can be easily replaced, but I had to get over the fact that I had spent thousands of dollars over the years on things I’m no longer wearing. The good news is I’m much more judicious now as to what comes into my closet.
AF last night!5 -
@Womona Nice job being AF. Thanks for your kind words.
@forestdweller1 Hey, not a bad idea... sit and relax with an adult sippy cup!! Enjoy your beautiful 60 degree weather!
@globalhiker Thanks for the sweet message.5 -
@joans1976 Sounds like a great doctor! She really cares and has probably heard it all!6

Hello My "LA" friends! Happy March! I am SO ready for spring! My goal is 16 AF days. I usually post the next morning.
3/6: AF - I had my six-week post-op follow-up and the doc released me to do whatever I feel like doing! My suspicions were also confirmed that it's going to take more time - three to six months - before my foot starts feeling back to normal. It's not happening as quickly as I'd hoped but forward progress is being made. I'm planning AF until Thursday.
Rolling Total: 4 AF Days out of 68 -
@joans1976 and @RubyRed427 Hugs to both of you and hoping today is a better day!
@pokey4321 Have you tried the Lagunitas NA beer? It's labeled as Lagunitas IPNA. That one and a few others have become a substitute for me on my AF days. There are much better choices now than O'Douls. I also like several of Athletic Brewing's brews. And if you like Guinness, their NA beer is great!5 -
March accountability: 2 days AF
Alcohol: 4 days (7 drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 0
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
3/6 - AF; Betty Buzz Ginger Beer

I'm going to probably be in the same boat. My ankle was sprained but since it's in a cast up to my knee, my ankle ligaments will probably be weak.
I hope your foot gets better each day. xo7 -
Jthanmyfitnesspal wrote: »My goal for March:

I (with my wife) had a cocktail with dinner on 3/3. I'm a little miffed (in retrospect) that the restaurant served me a HUGE cocktail that probably had several shots in it. Of course, I drank it! I should have counted that as two drinks (at least), being enough for an evening, but I also had cognac with my wife later while watching a movie. In retrospect, I think it was too much overall. Although I felt fine the next day, and had a great workout on the spin bike (for example), it caused almost ~3lb weight spike that is just abating now, 4 days later. I think that is telling me something!
I think I need to redefine my "two drink" limit when one of the drinks is clearly oversized, duh!
Best wishes for strength and resolve to everyone!6 -
@forestdweller1
A neighbour gave me some Lily of the Valley. This will be the 3rd summer since I have had it. Can I expect some blooms this year? I love love love the smell.6 -

Monday March 06 - AF - I had my first day back to te restaurant with full intentions of going to do my other jobs afterward. I felt fine, but by the end of my shift was tired. I will attempt the same again today but not putting too much pressure on myself since my energy levels are not quite back up yet.
Rolling total: 3AF day out of 6 days.6 -
@dawnbgethealthy ...you lookin' at ME ?? @MissMay is the plant guru. My lilies of the valley were probably planted about 76 years ago when this house was built. The leaves are up, waiting on the blooms.
Now that I'm looking, my magnolia tree is covered in white buds. Love that the flowers come before the leaves.
You still have that lovely snow to enjoy !! ⛸️ ❄️ ⛷️6 -
@RubyRed427 oooooh no! What a bummer! Take care of yourself. And heal fast!
And you, too @joans1976. Good for you for going to the ER promptly. Narcissa, or was it Dramaryllis? can go *#&$^ herself.7 -
I don't know what came over me yesterday but I was NOT AF.
I started in the afternoon with several glasses of wine then moved to not 1 but 2 whiskey and water last night. Feeling it today, well when I first got up that is. DH and I have agreed this party barge of going out so frequently is not doing our wallet or health any good. So he is now onboard with one day out on weekdays, and we are working on what about the weekends.
@joans1976 I am sorry you ended up in the ER but love that Dr's humor. I think of your struggle often and I truly wish I could help in some way.
@MissMay I splurged and bought some new paint brushes....I know one more thing to pack LOL
Speaking of packing we took a load of 'stuff/junk' to the dump this morning. I think we will have one more load to dispose of but we will do that later in the month.
I went hunting for my extra laundry detergent and it is not in the tub marked 'laundry room' I have no clue where I put it. So now I am going to have to purchase some grrrr. I usually make my own mixture with borax, washing soda, oxiclean and either zote or fels naptha.
I am so ready to pack our car up and hit the road but was looking at the mountain passes and it is still a crap shoot. I am not going to 'chain up' or 'white knuckle' it over any of the passes. So we have the Cascades and the Rockies......unless we go through Wyoming but that is still plagued with snow and high winds.
I am such a baby when it comes to icy/windy roads.
ok off for now7 -
March accountability: 20-23 AF days
AF - 5
A - 1
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day
My daily go to’s are flavored sparking waters and herbal mint tea.
Tonight I’m going to have a Fever Tree Pink Grapefruit on ice with no A
8 -
March accountability: 3 days AF
Alcohol: 4 days (7 drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 0
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
3/7 - AF; Clausthaler NA Beer
I so wanted to join DH in bourbon & coke this evening but pulled out one of my NA options!7 -
I was not AF today, bought a mini-bottle of Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc only because it was the smallest bottle I could find at the lowest price. Husband worked late and begged me to get food for dinner so I landed at the supermarket at the wrong time....6pm!!! (hungry+tired+exhausted+stressed by husband)=recipe for drinking.
I enjoy seeing posts about the bright side of life...that lifts me and is motivating. Helps me to look at the bright side of things and progress in that direction. I would love to hear more about the positive things you all are working on.
Personally, this is tough for me. I am a workaholic, get stressed out and exhausted at end of day. Stress management has always been my issue. I would love to change and introduce better things into my life that give me energy and joy.

Hey, count me in! I find alcohol to be a real road block to overall wellness. For me, alcohol is a appetite stimulant. While I am drinking and after..especially after. It leave me feeling tired an unmotivated. For March, I have been AF 5 out of 7 days. I aim to make is 29 out of 31.12
