Yes Rosemarie that was a rude comment about McDonald's.
I did my aerobic walking Yay! Now today's deficit is 487 Yay! An all-time high for me and not something that will happen often. I skipped my chocolate today, that's once in a blue moon.
Annie in Delaware4 -
Did a Joyce Vidral DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a total body strength training dvd
Tracey – good luck on the interview
Debbie and M – happy birthday
Evelyn – feel better soon
I know when we stayed at one hotel, you could smell smoke in the hallway. They called the police and they knocked on every door. When they found the person who smoked, they had him leave
Heather – fantastic pictures
Rebecca – great design for the bathroom! Did you design it and pick out the cabinetry? I’m probably going to PM you about it if you did it all.
One lady today was commenting on how colorful the flowers I left were, she asked how much they cost. I just told her I didn’t remember. Truth is, they were free!
My gardening is “if God means for it to live, it’ll live”. I look at a plant and it dies
Rosemarie – you deserved the restful B&B. So glad you got it. I’m sorry the service is getting larger. Your “friend” is ridiculous
After exercise went to Aldi. I do try to go to the store even if just for a few things (not like at home when I go maybe once/week) so hopefully we won’t have as much to take back. Afterwards, there was a lady’s lunch. I had a chicken Caesar taco with the dressing on the side and instead of the french fries I had mixed vegetables, no butter or sauce. Just water to drink. Then went for a walk. The launch of the ship that was 3D printed was scrubbed. Not sure when it’s supposed to go up. I think there is a SpaceX launch tomorrow.
Cards tomorrow. Have to think, maybe since it’s supposed to be cooler Vince and I can go for our walk earlier and he can have dinner when he gets back. A neighbor of ours wants to take me to lunch tomorrow at Chipotle since I gave her yarn and was showing her how to make this afghan. Unfortunately, she forgot how to do it. So she’ll bring it back down next year and we’ll go over it again.
Then went for my walk around the parking lot. Vince went with me for a little bit. It was cool, but by the time I finished I was sweating
Then we’re supposed to go to lunch with friends on Friday. Vince said that with lunch out on Wed. Thur, and Fri, I should jog around the parking lot….lol

I am back to talking with more people than I have in years. I will have to toughen up! Some of the things they say are remarkable! My Friend from high school called from San Francisco. I had to call her back because I had was making a run to McDonald's to have something for dinner at the Inn. She said your eating McDonalds..that's bad...that's because your in the South. People in California eat healthier. How rude...8 days a widow and she is chiding me because I got McDonalds. And she hates to work out and I do work out. And give me a break...people in California go to McDonalds.
We had a nice conversation otherwise. But pretty rude about the McDonalds thing...8 days a widow!

Rosemarie - Wow, you never know what's going to pop out of people's mouths! McDonald's isn't the worst thing in the world, and you had to grab something. Glad your conversation with the CA friend was good otherwise.
Would you mind me asking -- how long did your husband need round the clock care?
Betsy - please fill us in on your Panama Canal excursion when you get a chance. It was probably a tad warmer than Alaska. Bet it was good to get away and see a different part of the world.
Protein Bars Kay and Michele (?)I'm going to check out Aloha bars. I hadn't heard of them and now I see they have coconut ones. I have a supply of Darryl's Bars that are good, 11 gm protein and pretty tasty, running up toward 300 calories each. I keep them in the freezer - away from temptation.
I think I've mentioned Kodiak Cakes pancake mix before. I've been making them into waffles, adding milk instead of water, maybe some chopped dried fruit, a teaspoon of chia seeds, a tablespoon of chopped nuts, a tablespoon of mini chocolate chips, etc. It's easy to get a waffle that's 20 gm of protein under 250 calories, and I like that I can break it into 4 pieces and stick one quarter in the toaster at a time.
This morning I made a savory waffle. Still used the milk and chia seeds, but added some Italian spices, garlic and onion powder, and a big tablespoon of shredded parmesan cheese. It was a winner.
Now I'm thinking about making one using water and salsa instead of the milk, oregano, maybe a dash of taco seasoning, Mexican cheeses. Something different to have with soup but still packing a lot of protein.
Did my strength training this morning then got busy this afternoon with more garden and property cleanup. Looks like sunshine on Saturday (crossing fingers) so planning to get the weed eater going and maybe even mow in a few spots. It's great being active outdoors again.

Rosemarie- another CA girl here and YES I eat at Mc.Donald's. Not as often as dh does but once in a while I just want their nuggets or their double cheese burger with OUT cheese(hate the cheese), with extra pickles. I eat it and track it.
Sunny day after a big rain storm this morning so walked almost an hour(55min).
Leaving now for Zumba for another hour. Need to work out a little harder to make up for what I ate at lunch- pulled some precooked corned beef out and had a big serving of it- 7ounces!!
Safeway has them on sale starting today for $1.88 lb-limit of two. Thinking about them made me want some and was glad I had some already cooked.
Tomorrow dh and son and I will go out to lunch for my birthday. Nice to have son go with us.
Have a great evening ladies and thanks again for all the birthday wishes.
Don't feel 61, at least not today.

9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. Tried to start early at tonight’s meeting but failed more often than achieved.
Kay thanks for the Aloha protein bar suggestion, I’ll try one out. I’m with your nutritionist, all the “…itol”s make me windy
Michele “walking partner” WOW! Yay Vince!!! why can’t you and Vince stay longer in FL?
Barbie thanks for your chicken in peanut sauce recipe too!
Annie well done on the new bike!
Kim is there no nearby care facility alternative to your mom recovering at your house? Sorry to hear you’ve been hit with such shocking information on top of everything else you’re coping with. Glad your counselor could give you the needed extra time.
Tracey well done on restarting your physio exercises. Can’t wait to hear how Monday’s interview goes. Hope the new place is worthy of you.
Kylia safe travels and hope you have a wonderful time with your family.
Debbie hope your exMIL’s social security payments don’t have too bad an impact on your ex FIL’s income taxes. Debbie that is a tempting sale, I might have to drive to the nearest Safeway (30 miles south) to get some corned beef. Oh that’s right, the 17th is coming soon!
Rita “. . . I did not get mad, just politely asked for them to investigate. . . “ VERY well done!
Lanette your description of your Kodiak protein pancakes is inspiring.
Rosemarie I’m also former CA (native San Franciscan) girl who is ashamed of my state sister’s rudeness and yes I do treat myself to McDonald’s when on road trips. Glad you are listening to your feelings. Don’t let anyone else push you into doing (or not doing) anything you want to.
There were others I wanted to respond to but I’m falling asleep.

Grandmallie and Kim: Thank you for validating that I am not going crazy about what is rude. I hope to volunteer at a dog shelter and maybe meet some nice people through this activity. Right now I get very tired and have to take frequent naps.
I am sorry you're having to deal with things like that. It's amazing what pops out of people's mouths.
As for your plans ... just rest. Do things when you've got the energy, but take those frequent naps. You've got a lot of different emotions to work through in the next month or two or longer.
It might be worth seeing if you can find a place to stay for the next month to take a break from your house ... sometimes hotels rent rooms by the month. Take the time to regroup.

As far as leaving the house, By about March 2020 I knew I could not leave the house unless there was someone present. In July of 2020 he fell and never walked again....too weak.
I have received wonderful sympathy cards and lovely flowers. Most people have been lovely in their gestures of compassion.

Barbara- if you are going to get the Corned Beef, be sure to add it to your card-it is a digital one. Limit 2.
Smart and Final also has a digital coupon for $1.99 lb-limit one.
Not sure how that will effect former inlaws taxes but even with getting that one lump sum, he will still have a nice amount that he wasn't counting on.

The very happiest of birthdays to you, dear Debbie!
And also to you Machka in Oz where it's tomorrow already
More later,
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
My birthday is complicated!
It's the 9th in Canada, but since today is the 9th in Australia (and the 8th in Canada), I celebrate today. Then tomorrow it will be the 9th in Canada and the 10th in Australia ... so I just celebrate again.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes!!

Allie - I don’t understand a lot of the decisions Tracy and Kyle make. They expect you and Miles to be cold all day?
How old is Carmine again?
Happy Birthday to Machka and Debbie!
Rebecca - I always flip the overflow drain thing too. Can you loosen the screw to do it!
Debbie - My heart hurts that you DH wasn’t able to show the emotion you needed.
I felt the same with my DH when my Dad passed. He was here, he was supportive but he didn’t show the emotion I thought he should have.
When his Dad passed in January I learned what it must have been like for him. I was so incredibly upset and hurt, but really felt like I needed to be there for him without him having to worry about my feelings. He may think I’m not as emotional as I should be either.
I do talk about his Dad a lot though because the lack of talking about Dad did me in.
Rosemarie - I find people say things and don’t even know that they are being rude, they think they are being helpful. I hope your friends all apologize and friendships aren’t ruined forever.
I also hope you get some rest soon.
I eat McDonald’s way too much! I order their chicken nuggets and apple slices for lunch. It’s the fries I try to avoid, but sometimes they get me. I haven’t had any fries since returning from NB though. It was a month today I went back to work. It still feels like we just got back.
Happy International Women’s Day Ladies!

Rosemarie, Your high school “friend" was rude. And callous. The fact that you continued your conversation with her after her thoughtlessness is a testament to your graciousness and tolerance. She didn’t deserve it. (((Hugs)))2

Machka how long ago was that cardiologist dismissal? Could it be time for a second opinion?
BarbaraMachka--Scary that your doctor will not check your heart out just for your own piece of mind and as a baseline if something comes up later. Can you make your own appointment with a cardica doctor?
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE Where we are to get rain, snow and sleet the next couple days.
The timeline was something like this ...
Regular heart tests while I lived in Canada and acknowledgement that I have damaged valves. Some suggestion that eventually I may need valve replacement surgery.
2009 - DVT and discovery of MTHFR and high homocysteine levels (both of which can affect the heart)
Late 2017/early 2018 - Cardiologist who dismissed me
March 2018 - Husband's accident
Early 2022 - My doctor and my back-up doctor leave the practice.
May-ish 2022 - Tried another doctor at my practice who was getting ready to go "home" to the Netherlands for an indefinite period of time. She managed to mess up just about everything.
Spent the rest of 2022 deciding on a new doctor and sorting out the mess.
So, we're here now.
I figured out what was causing my numb legs myself.
I've had my skin cancer dealt with - something that was passed over by previous doctors.
And I've got the appointment with the kidney specialist at last.
Finally making steps in the right direction.

I haven't been impressed over the past year.
For example, if an ultrasound came back with the following in big black letters, perhaps it might warrant a follow-up of some sort. {{shrug}}
"Mild renal cortical thinning bilaterally in keeping with chronic kidney disease"
Especially when coupled with borderline questionable kidney function bloodwork.
My previous doctor, the one with one foot out the door to the Netherlands, overlooked it entirely until I pointed it out to her.

On a happier note ...
I designed this ride in October 2022 in anticipation that we might get a 50 km ride in during the aftermath of the flooding in that month. This route was the least flood affected I could come up with. Unfortunately travel was not recommended and we did not test it out then.
This was our first chance to give it a go and it lived up to its name. It was mostly dry, with just a small splatter of rain along the way. 🙂 And a whole lot of wind.
The wind was great at times ... and really painful at other times. And my feet are freezing now for some reason!!
Me at the end of the ride ...
It wasn't quite my birth age in kilometres, but after all that wind, we really didn't want to do another 4 km.

One bored kitty on my hands, and the rain is supposed to last all day long...
So... I talked to the neighbors who moved out before Christmas, as they came by to drop off materials for the builders working on the little stone house. They ARE moving back, but before they do, they're having three bedrooms and a full bath built on the two bedroom house (five kids, remember?).
On the good news side of this, they rehomed their two huge Dobermans because the dogs started fighting each other, often right in the middle of the kids or even over them. In the three years here, they went through cats, rabbits, goats, chickens, turkeys, guineas, and more than a dozen dogs (she fosters quite a few). That's just the ones I remember. They still have the monkey (a thumb monkey), the demon Chihuahua and the Corgi. They're nice people, just animal-crazy. And not terribly good at it - they didn't realize chickens and guineas can fly for short distances unless you clip their wings... or that goats can climb.
While the wife and I were talking, the husband got his two-wheel-drive pickup truck in the mud, and they had to wait until Corey got home with his four-wheel drive work truck to pull him out, so we talked for a bit. The husband thinks I'm funny, which is a good thing. The wife said something about the kids being noisy outside and bothering me, and I said, "Well, one does sound like she's being skinned alive." Husband broke up laughing. Wife didn't. I am more truthful than polite these days, I guess. I like being 60+. That said, I would not tell anyone they shouldn't eat at McDonalds. On occasion I still crave their filet-of-fish sandwich.
One good news from yesterday. To make a long-story short (too late, I know) I recovered dozens of my articles that I thought were lost forever. Renewed my subscription to Medium after a couple years away, and recovered all my articles and the small magazine I built there. I lost my backup of the articles in a computer move last year, and thought they were gone for good. Pleased about that, and honestly, reasonably pleased the neighbors are moving back. Animals or no, it is good to have people that I could run to or get help from if I needed it. Speaking of which, just got a message from the gastroenterologist's office that I need to go get a chest X-ray done for the workup for moving me to a new biologic.
Woke up feeling rested and feeling better than I have in days. Hugs to those who need them, I do read all the posts, but by the time I get around to writing my own post, you've usually gotten better advice than I could give. Plus, as someone else noted, my brain is a sieve these days.
Love y'all,
Lisa in wet, rainy Arkansas

Barbie - this hits home. That was my DH's philosophy too. I've expanded my social contacts a little more than him, but I think it might be a reason I'm no longer a "joiner" or plan/schedule things with other people. It's funny, seems now that I'm in my 70's, I'm a lot more tolerant in many areas, but rude and tiresome people are on the "avoid" list. My circle is tight.
Rosemarie - sending strength to you as you get through all of this. I had a lot of alone time after my DH passed to recharge my batteries, it sounds like you'll be full throttle for a while. Good luck with the eulogy! So happy to hear you've gotten sympathy cards and flowers to honor his passing.
You had quite a journey this past few years as caregiver. You deserve all the happiness you can get and you have the right to make choices you feel are important regarding your home and how you'll spend your free time. Working out more will be great if that's in your plan, get those endorphins going.
I have tried several times to write an obit or memorial for my DH and I got sidetracked or bogged down, so I've given up for now. After he retired and as he started to fail, his social circle dwindled. The people that he was important to and knew him still comment what they remember about him that was funny or admirable. I appreciate that.
Lisa - that's great news about your neighbors. It's a blessing to have someone next door you can trust and depend on. And great job with the story recovery!
Just got back from a brisk 1 mile walk. Since part of it is on the main road, I try to beat the school buses and folks on their way to work. Time for another cup of coffee, then back to the seed catalogs!
Make it a fabulous day!

Hi, all. Thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I have been lurking in the background reading all the comments for quite awhile and feel I know you all. A little about myself. I'm soon to be 73 and farming with husband (organic farm) in Alberta. Love gardening and maintaining large yard keeps me active and busy in the summer. Have traveled quite a bit then at age 65 my world was turned upside down with a cancer diagnosis. Went through a year of chemo/radiation treatment and to date cancer free. Planning on a trip to Ireland in April with a couple of friends and looking forward to it. Will be my first overseas trip since the pandemic. Have been struggling with keeping my weight in check. Had gained about 30 pounds over the isolation/pandemic period and still trying to get about 20 pounds off. Scale is slowly moving in the right direction. Enjoy reading through all the comments.

Heather - didn't you say you grow basil in your windowsill? If that was you (and/or whoever else does it successfully) how do you water it and keep it healthy? Basil is so touchy for me but I really want to get a plant going. I see some little plants are available at stores.

Rosemarie ... some unsolicited advice ... take care of you now. Really. Your needs. Your wishes. Your health especially. And, yes, the California gal was out-of-line.
Machka and Debbie ... Happy Belated Birthday!
Kim ... so sorry you've been hit with another family "bomb." Hugs.
Rebecca ... the bathroom looks great! Your sister is right, by the way. You're also grieving and in the world of grief it's all relative. One person's loss cannot be considered greater or lesser than another's.
I've spent too long catching up with all of you. Heading back down to the basement to purge more stuff!
