My name is Donna. I am 62 years old, 5' 5" tall. I live in the Midwest of USA. I am in remission for breast cancer, have Type 2 Diabetes, an under active thyroid, high blood pressure and cholesterol, some osteoporosis and coronary heart disease with a stent in my heart. I am working to get healthier. I know losing weight and exercising more will help all of these issues.

CHALLENGE STARTING WEIGHT (FROM Dec 31, 2021): 199.8
CHALLENGE TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS GOAL: Total Loss of 15 pounds to land at 184.8
CHALLENGE ENDING WEIGHT: Unknown due to medical issues. I’ll redo March in April.

Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

Weight in blue makes me blue because it’s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because it’s a loss. Weight in black means no change.

    03/12-189.0-(Trend Weight: 191.9)-

03/19-188.2-(Trend Weight: 190.4)- My progress is a bit slowed this week because I took advantage of a travel day and made it a “shake it up” day with extra calories and carbs. I needed to trick up my metabolism after some early week stalling for several days in a row. I am starting to see the downward movement on the scale again and am happy with it. My trend weight has really came down since last week so I’m pleased as punch with that. We had 3 in. of snow yesterday and a high of 18 degrees. This week, however, some temps in the 40’s is supposed to peak out. Welcome to Michigan.

03/26-187.8-(Trend Weight: 189.3)- I’m not happy about an overnight GAIN of 0.6 for ABSOLUTELY no reason. I went to bed under calorie, under carb but satisfied. I’ll just have to keep moving forward and trust my body and the process. Well, we had another snow storm yesterday which yielded another 10 inches of snow! Very pretty but enough already! It’s been a pretty good week overall for me with only one day of bingeing. Today I travel for my DGS’s 4th birthday party. I’ll try to be mindful but, hey, no promises! This is going to be a tough week with my travel being on Sun, Mon, Tue, and Thur. Restaurants, restaurants, restaurants and lots of sitting. I’ll hope to maintain my weight even if I can’t achieve losses this week. Only a few more days until the end of the challenge. I’ll do my best!

03/31-DNW-(Trend Weight: DNW)- I guess April will have to be a re-do of March for me due to my medical issues. But I’m not giving up! Moving forward. Finally no travel today. Sticking to plan, babysitting DGS and pre-logging food for the day. Staying hopeful.

Another small gain for me this week (0.2 lbs). I admit I have been in a bad head space diet wise for the last 2 weeks. I am taking a diet break for 1 week where I will try and eat at maintenance. Overall I am satisfied with a 13.7lbs loss for this challenge. But I guess deep down I wish the process was faster. I find it is easier to stay on track when I get consistent losses. Anyway I hope I don't go off the rails during the break!

Well done to all those who stuck with the challenge no matter what the outcome. Persistence and consistency are the keys to success.

For those who dropped out, try not to feel disappointed. Try and learn from the experience and restart as soon as you figure out what you can do differently. Part of the process is learning from experience. One memorable quote that always sticks in my mind is: the real work starts when you want to stop.

04/01-DNW-(Trend Weight: DNW)- I woke up today in quite a depressed state. I am bothered that my normal routine has been so very disrupted. I realized I have not even gotten dressed since Thur morn when I had to travel. I am still bloated and am quite sure I have put on a few pounds while going through all of this medical drama. Even with the medication change, my bp was down way too low again yesterday and I couldn’t get any fitness in because of it. Food is not the answer and does not solve the problems! I ate things I shouldn’t have mixed in with good pre-planned choices but the in-betweens threw me out of plan. I am a mess. I will work on myself today though it is babysitting day again. That will not leave much time for me but I’ll do my best. Tomorrow (Sunday) is a rare free day this week. No babysitting and no drs appointments. Tomorrow I can really focus. I’ll be back to travel on Monday. In the meantime, I am logging my food and going to youtube to find some positive affirmations that I can listen to (and repeat). I really need them today.

I weigh in every day and calculate weekly averages. Target: lose 12 lbs / 12 weeks.

    Week 0 (up to January 8th): 96.8 kg / 213.4 lbs
    Week 12 (April 2nd): 94.4 kg / 208.1 lbs
    Total loss: 5.3 lbs / 12 weeks

Not the loss I had hoped for, but at least lost 5.3 lbs despite challenging circumstances. Will be looking for new challenge (or making one myself ). See you out there!

04/02-DNW-(Trend Weight: DNW)- I am trying to stay positive in light of everything. I prep cooked yesterday and packed my freezer full of good healthy choices, low calorie/low carb. I am not allowed to exercise again and must continually monitor the bp so I don’t want to weigh in yet and witness the calories in but no calories out situation. Too depressing. For sure, my clothes feel tighter and I know I am bloating as they’ve taken me off my water pill again along with one of the bp meds. It’s just something that I’ve got to get through. In the meantime, I will do What I Can (dietary) When I can. I will also continue to be encouraged and AMAZED by all of you. I am thankful to be sharing your journey with you. I learn so much and am very grateful for that. No worries, friends, I will be back up on the horse again soon!
