I ran my double races today after taking it easy all week. Short version of today would bei 1 x semi PR and 1 effort basically equal to my 10k race on New Year’s Eve when we got a salami for finishing (today it was a coffee mug). I know I ran faster in high school & had one really fast 10k in college but I haven’t run anywhere near as fast in recent history, so I am very happy about that.
For the 5k I got 24:45 and 3rd in my age group. Then I had a little over 35 minutes between my finish and the 10 km. They didn’t have any water at the finish line, just alcohol free beer and alcohol free beer mixed with sprite. I didn’t want to drink that before my second race because I wasn’t sure my stomach would be able to handle it, but my husband - and most importantly in that moment - water and my race number- were nowhere to be found. About 15 minutes before the 10k start I found him, could drink a sip of water and take a gel. I admit I felt tired at the start of the 10k and knew I couldn’t keep up my 5k pace, so I aimed at a time under 52 minutes. I didn’t quite make it - my final time was 53:30, but I really didn’t have anything left in the tank and was satisfied. In that race I was 7th in my age group. I’m sure it would definitely have made a difference in my there if my legs had been fresh.
The weather was perfect for running 12C/53F - cold for spectators.
I didn’t want to get my hopes up that my leg would be ok, but it was! Taking it easy really gave my muscle time to heal. That meant I was able to race and just tried to keep reminding myself not to overstride! I even made a high cadence playlist that I used .
May kms 59.8/200.11 -
May total: 23.1/115 miles
5/2: 9 miles
5/3: 3 miles
5/5: 7 miles
5/7: 4.1 miles
Treadmill miles this morning because it was super gross outside. I picked up where I left off in the Boston marathon ifit series with Tommy Rivs. Today's section was roughly mile 16-20. Some fairly hilly sections. I kept it easy. Overall pretty pleasant.6 -

Picture postcard Spring morning. Lots and lots and lots of people out moving around. I'm "tapering" this week.
Today was three short intervals. The last of the three I tried to hold a slightly quicker pace for five minutes. It ended up being 11:07/mile pace. At 5K that is 34:23.
I guess a good goal for my 5K is to break 34:00.
May Running Goal: 13 runs, 44 miles- May 2 - 3.34 miles
- May 4 - 2.74 miles
- May 7 - 2.15 miles

@Laurz9191 Woohoo! Good racing! Congrats on the AG podium. I'm glad your injury didn't flare up and I hope it doesn't become a problem again. So happy for you!2

@Laurz919 GREAT job on your double races! Congrats on the 3rd AG place in the 5K. That really sounds tough to do a 10K an hour later! And glad the leg didn't give you any trouble.
@quilteryoyo sorry for your Mom! Hope the meds help quickly.1 -
May Goal: 115 Miles
5/1: 5.26 miles
5/2: 6.22 miles
5/3: 5.26 miles

I got out about 8:30 this morning
It was already 74°F and so humid. There were lots of loose dogs today. We had thunderstorms last night. I guess the dogs probably got loose then. I ran 10 miles. It was a tough run, but I was glad afterwards that I got out there.
Congratulations on your AG finish @Laurz9191! Great job on both races and so glad that the leg didn't give you any trouble.

@Laurz9191 awesome work on your races, I'm very impressed, there's no way I would even consider running a 5k hard and then doing a 10k afterwards!
@quilteryoyo hope mom is feeling better and the meds kick in quickly and nip it in the bud.
Great running everyone!quilteryoyo wrote: »@eleanorhawkins You are brave signing up for an ultra. I'm glad your friend is going to stick with you as support and good luck with the lottery. This may be a stupid question, but what is a backyard ultra. I envision @AlphaHowls doing crazy laps in her back yard.
Obviously I will not be trying to win or get anywhere close to winning, my goal will probably be between 8 and 10 loops.

@Laurz9191 - Congratulations on your weekend races, you did amazing!
@TheMrWobbly - Well done on your weight loss and hope you enjoyed the Coronation celebrations. I watched it on T.V and the concert last night too.
@quilteryoyo - Hope you mum is getting better and sorry you had to miss the tennis lunch.5 -
Dang @eleanorhawkins the format of that ultra sounds really tough! You are a beast for even attempting it!!
Got out this morning for 7 miles. It was a rough one. Felt stiff and achy the whole time.

@Scott6255 It's the kind of crazy challenge that's really up my street... I suck as a runner, but I am stubborn and bloody-minded hahaha. Also, it's cool in that I can pretty much do the distance I want to do and the elevation isn't all that much, whereas most of the shorter ultras here have some crazy elevation in them!6 -
Hi friends. I disappeared again at the end of April. My return to running announcement was a bit premature It was not a physical setback, just a combination of wimping out due to lots of days of cold rain, being out of the regular running habit and tired from being back to work full time, and not having a car (still) to get to the gym etc.
But, this weekend I ran 3 miles on Saturday, outside around the lakes on a beautiful morning. And Sunday another 20 minutes of running with some walking in the middle to total about 3 more miles. I've been walking every day still. I was a bit sore after Saturday's 3 miles out of nowhere run following more than 6 weeks without running, but it went better than I expected. I ran the whole thing while chit-chatting with my friends so that kept me motivated enough not to quit. We had a lot to catch up on.
I don't have a goal for May other than to work my way back into regular running and return to the gym. How much that will all amount to I don't know. Fingers crossed that my new car arrives this week to solve at least that excuse.13 -
May 1 – 5.05 miles
May 2 – 1.01 miles
May 3 – 5.12 miles
May 4 – 4.49 miles
May 6 – 8.15 miles
May 8 – 5.27 miles
29.09/75 miles
Dodged the rain this morning with a 5 mile run. It was 59F and very humid. On Saturday, I volunteered to help our track club time a small 5K race. The race was held near where @quilteryoyo lives which is an hour and 15 minute drive for me but the club needed volunteers and I didn't have any plans so why not! Afterwards, I ran 8 miles on a trail that started across from the 5K location. It was a paved trail that was 4 miles in length and ran by the local university. It was so nice to run in some place different.
@TheMrWobbly – Your coronation snacks look yummy! What are the pink and blue fluffy things on the tiered serving dish in the second picture?
@Laurz9191 – Great racing! You did fabulous in both of the races! Glad your leg did good.
@quilteryoyo – Hope your mom gets to feeling better very soon.
@Mari33a – Have you heard of personal trainer/YouTouber Caroline Girvan? She’s from the Belfast area. I’m doing one of her series now. She’s a beast!
Hope you get your new car today @katharmonic!

Hi @Teresa502 they were meringue clouds, I doctored them to fill them with strawberries and cream.
Good to see you again @katharmonic
Feels a long process with C25K, believe in the process though!5 -
I've been in NC for my nephew's graduation for the past few days. Ate too much, exercised too little. I did manage to get in some short walks with my sister, but no running or RT. Feeling like a bloated slug, if there is such a thing.
Did get a short run in today to try to get back on track. Felt good.

Today’s run was 12.2km. I am still reaaaaalllly sore from Sunday’s races and my heart rate was quite high in comparison to my average at that pace. I am going to take all my runs easy and take a few more days off from running until I’ve recovered. The weather here is finally getting warmer 74F 23C. There was still a cool breeze, so that was quite enjoyable.
So far for May 72/200km.7 -
I'm glad it's not just me @martaindale .
Thanks @TheMrWobbly . Congratulations on the weight loss and keeping your heart rate in the zone.
Great running @Zaxa2021 and @chris_in_cal .0 -
Congratulations on your races @Laurz9191 . It's weird they didn't have water at the finish line. Did they after the 10k? Glad you're leg felt good.
Nice running @kgirlhart . Glad the loose dogs weren't an issue.
@eleanorhawkins That sounds like an intense race. Only first place. I guess if you finished second at least you would have the satisfaction of knowing that you did.
You are doing great @katharmonic ! I hope you get your car soon and continue to work on the consistency.
Great running @Teresa502 . Sorry we couldn't get together when you were so close.
Everyone seems to be doing great with getting out and doing what you can. Didn't comment on everyone, but did hug and like where appropriate. Just trying to catch up with everyone while I watch the kids sleep.
Thanks for the well wishes for Mom. She's doing a lot better. The pink eye is looking better. Still itchy, but not red. She's still coughing some, but all in all, is a lot better.
I've not posted in a couple of days due to internet issues and life getting in the way. But I have gotten at least 2 miles of something in every day. I hope I can today too, after work and maybe mowing at least a portion of my lawn.7
