5/02 - 200.6
5/03 - 200.8 Not very happy with the last two days. A lot of depression going on. Found out Sunday that my youngest DD had a miscarriage. Very hard to have another loss after DH died Mar.9.
5/04 - 201.6 I’m rather surprised at this. Oh well, I will keep trying. Traveling today and tomorrow, going back to our previous home (we moved two years ago). DH and I played in a community band. The band has a concert tonight and is playing a piece in honor and memory of him. Taking both daughters with me and meeting lots of friends there. It will be an emotional trip.

5/10 - 201.8 I’ve been making poor choices lately and continue to not sleep well.

My insurance offers a discount on activity trackers, so I’m thinking of getting either a Fitbit or a Garmin, a more basic model. I’ve never had one. Thoughts from those of you who do on what features you’ve found useful, and your satisfaction with your device? Thanks!
I've been with Fitbit for years and I absolutely LOVE it. HOWEVER Fitbit is being taken over by Google and a lot of changes have been happening. A few features that are beloved have been taken (music and group challenges - neither of which I used so I don't notice it but a lot of people are complaining) and there are other changes I'm unsure of coming in the future. Including having to have a Google account to access your Fitbit in the near future. I have one, as I'm an android girl, but it is annoying, even for me. Plus who knows how well the movement from Fitbit platform to Google platform will go and if all the data will successfully transfer. Ugh.
I use the Versa 4, one of the newest models. I use it for steps, sleep, exercise, breathing, stopwatch, morning alarm, and general timepiece. It's been awhile since I've looked at the base model but I know I started with that and I've stuck with them since.
I will say, I've been looking into the Garmin in case I need to replace my Fitbit anytime in the near future. I plan on sticking with my current Fitbit until it gives up and dies on me but if that's prior to the Google takeover has settled out, I may step away from Fitbit until I see how this whole ordeal will go. I'm leary of the changes despite my loyalty to the company (they've been great with customer service, replacing watches that unexpectedly break due to no fault of my own, fixing issues, etc)
@SheilaBoneham , like @CamandJarvis , I’m also a Fitbit user (I use the Sense smartwatch model). I love my Fitbit, especially the sleep and health features, insights, and reports.
I was a daily user of the community feature they axed in March (open groups, challenges, and adventures). I miss them a lot. Lots of folks started using Stridekick to compliment their Fitbit, to replace challenges. I didn’t want to do that. If I was going to use two apps 😝, I decided MyFitnessPal would be the second 😎. Fitbit does have a food log, but MFP food/nutrition tools are far superior. And, it turns out, the message boards/community groups are too!
I do miss the challenges/ bingos that Fitbit axed (sigh), but I, finding my app time is better spent food logging than playing fitness bingo 🤷🏻♀️ 🙃😍.
I’m intrigued by the Garmin, even tho I love (and do recommend) Fitbit. The cost of Garmin up front is higher, but if I understand correctly, none of the features/data is locked behind a paywall. On the Fitbit, some of the sleep data and wellness features are locked behind a paywall.
Google actually took over Fitbit a couple years ago. But, for the most part, no changes were made until first, they took away music app support like Spotify, etc last year, and then THIS year, taking a wrecking ball to the community features. They SAID they did it to make room fo new features in the future … but there has been Bupkis as far as new features, or even leaks of new features, on the horizon.
They did move some data out from behind the paywall, which is good for non-premium users, but it devalued (further) the premium user experience 🤷🏻♀️
Cheers!
- MK / @mkksemail (Maine)
Great summary! Yes, Google has finally started dismantling things. I haven't seen anything about these "new features" they keep referencing either. Very frustrating. I'm not a Premium user so I'm benefiting from some of the unlocked items.
I also wanted to throw out since you said food logging! I connected my Fitbit to MFP and my food log transfers over as a lump (instead of individual foods in Fitbit, I see "345 calories Breakfast" for example and I can still see how my calories in/calories out factors in Fitbit as well as MFP. Having the two helps - if they're both somewhat similar, I know I'm doing okay.

I ended up skipping it because I ran out of time! But my plan was spinach, strawberries, feta, and toasted pecans with a balsamic dressing that my huband makes (crushed garlic, dry mustard, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and my addition - a little maple syrup )
That sounds wonderful! I'll definitely have to try it for myself, thanks for sharing!1 -

Here are BOTH of my workout partners:

Brown - Harley, Red-Nosed Pit and Shar-Pei Mix, 6 years next month
Such viscous creatures they are...
To everyone sharing their beautiful pets, thank you! It brings a smile to my face

Here's to a successful surgery and quick/easy recovery for your husband! I hope you can get back to your goals quickly and this doesn't derail you in any sort of way
@Comandjarvis ~ Thank you. I didn't plan very well but went to the store this morning and ready to get back in line with health meals!!2 -

@quiltingjaine It's not just the parents. DS's girlfriend teaches in an elementary school. Discipline is not permitted. The kids know that. She has had kids walk out of the classroom and she is not allowed to stop them. And of course, the parents certainly contribute to kids believing such behavior is appropriate.2 -
@itladyee I meant to say something when I was reading last night but was so tired that I barely remembered to post. Hope DH is doing well and recovery is quick! 🙏🙏🙏1

Projection/Actual
5/10 210.5/216 ~ Not surprised. You couldn't bring outside food into the waiting room and all they had was a snack machine and coffee. I snacked to keep hunger at bay. By the time I got home, I just needed something quick so it was not a good eating day. One of these times I'm going to have more than two good rounds in a row!!!
Prior Days This Round5/2 213.1/213.8 ~ Not terribly surprised after the drops the past couple of days. All good. Got all my water in yesterday!! 🍎👌✅🚶🏽(for 5/1)
5/3 212.8/215.6 ~ Oops, up 1.8 from yesterday. Normally this result would send me spiraling...but this is just how my body works... Fact: I did not eat/drink +5,250 above maintenance (3,500 equal 1 pound). Fact: I did eat/drink ~600 above by targeted calories. I did get all my water in! Tomorrow's another day.👌✅🚶🏽(for 5/2)
5/4 212.2/214.9 ~ Headed back in the right direction. Missed my step goal. 🍎👌✅(for 5/3)
5/5 211.5/214.2 ~ Today is Cinco De Mayo. Husband wants Mexican and Margaritas. 😲😮🤭. Going to be a tough one but I'm going to try to stay at my calorie budget. I have a salad planned for lunch which comes in at 300 calories. That leaves me plenty of room for a (one) margarita and a chicken taco meal. That leaves me with 45 calories to spare. Oops, forgot the chips and guacamole. 🤞🏽 I think I will go for an extra walk at lunch today!🙂 🍎👌✅🚶🏽(for 5/4) 👌✅🚶🏽(for 5/5)

People say keto/LCHF isn’t sustainable. I’ve been doing it for over 6 years with amazing results!

SW RND 222 128.0
5/2 128.0 No access to scale after TMI
5/3 127.0 Had gluten free toast and gluten free (brown rice flour) pasta yesterday. Lots of carbs but waiting to see if my knees start to hurt. Tonight maybe Mexican restaurant with family. DGD#2 flies back to Iowa tomorrow.
5/4 128.5 Not surprised. Last night’s Mexican restaurant CHIPS followed high carb pasta from the night before. I woke up at 3:12AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. DGD leaves at noon.
5/5 128.0 DGD finally got home about 1:30AM Iowa time. Delayed flight from LAS to DEN caused her to miss connection and she had to wait several hours for the (rebooked) new flight which was also late. Then an hour drive to her home after waiting for her suitcase. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
*** A word to anyone flying in/out of Las Vegas. Apparently they are working on a runway until late July and this is causing delays on arrivals and departures.

Day, Weight, Comment
5/2 - 238.4 - Today is a celebration day, but that just means ice cream for dinner instead of dinner + ice cream! I also want to try and go for a 2.5 mile walk tonight to the cafe (and uber back!).
5/3 - Forgot to weigh
5/4 - 234.4 - Hmm, down again? Or is my scale still being weird? I do feel less bloated today. I think that avoiding flour & rice products is helping a lot.
5/5 - 234.2 - Still not sure about the scale. This weekend I'll try a different one somewhere to be sure. I do feel less bloated though so maybe I'm down in water weight? Today is Cinco de Mayo so I'm going to have some junky type foods but I'll be reasonable about it. Don't want to get puffy and no booze!
5/6 - 234.8
5/7 - 234.2
5/8 - 235.3 - This scale has to be busted.
5/9 - 233.5 - Ordered a new scale! We can get back to it when the new one arrives!
5/10 - 232.8 - Got a new scale and this is what it says. Maybe I’m losing weight but this seems too fast.

@mkksemail-I just mentioned in my book about the great fire in Portland in 1866. My book is about a con man Reverend who goes to Maine in the 1860s and cons people in Washington County to give him all their money to go with him to Jaffa for the Second Coming of Christ (it is a true story). It also goes into detail about the Civil War and the Copperhead movement in Washington County (which was surprising to me and has caused me to need to go back and read more old local newspapers from UMM) Sadly, I think this will be the never-ending story, as I learn more and more about that era in Maine.
You are certainly further up into Maine than the rest of us. Your books sound like topics DH would like. Any titles? (I'm a terrible reader)1 -
Round 222
45/F/Indiana
Always welcome new friends
I am back to 173.0 - I've lost these 3 lbs about 5 times now, so now that I got that out of my system, the goal is to break out to the other side and get away from them for good! 160's I'm coming!!!
Goals: 100+oz water a day, 8k-10k steps a day, cardio 5x a week, strength 3x a week
5.2.2023 - 173.0 - Heading to the gym tonight. Started a new gym and I'm loving it! Plus I'm only paying half of what the old gym costs and this gym has way more. Win, win! Let's knock out these next 10 days!
5.3.2023 - 174.2 - well I ate too much last night, so there’s that. Ugh 😩 I couldn’t stop. But today has been better so far. It’s the evening time that gets me. Heading to the gym soon.
5.4.2023 -173.8 - Last night was strength training and cardio at the gym. I was super sluggish, but finished. Should have done more. I don’t feel so sluggish today and I know it was from the pizza carbs. Staying on track so far today. Let’s see a lower # tomorrow!
5.5.2023 - 173.2 ⬇️ - My teenage son & gym partner is staying with friends tonight. I almost talked myself out of going. But I AM GOING! I owe it to myself to not stop now. I usually take the weekend off, but this new gym is open 24 hrs, which I need. Tonight is strength & cardio. I will meet my goal of 5 days cardio & 3 days strength 😊 Also, I was able to actually run a mile last night! I was proud of myself. It took me 13:32 but I did it! I DID IT🎉 I know that time isn’t impressive but to me, it’s amazing. I’m 45 and I bet grade school was the last time I actively ran. On to the gym!
And THANK YOU beautiful people for being so supportive to me and the others here ♥️
5.6.2023 - 173.6 ⬆️ - not too bad, but surprising. I went to the gym solo as planned last night and did my complete workout and I’m so glad I went! I need to push down the thoughts of “being too tired to go”
5.7.2023 - 172.6 ⬇️ YAY!!! I didn’t go to the gym yesterday as I normally skip Saturday to do my errands. Hit up some yard sales and scored a brand new rebounder for $50! WIN!!! I also went to an auction and scored my husband a highway landmark sign for the musician’s hall of fame. He was stoked! We visited the in-laws and then had an impromptu date of bowling. It was a really good Saturday.
5.8.2023 - 173.0 ⬆️ No gym last night but that’s ok. I stuck to my goals and planned meals. So I did good. This increase is small so that’s good. Normally we go out for breakfast on Sunday morning and I believe that has been part of this plateau issue bc Monday morning is usually more than a lb up. We will see how this plays out. Gym tonight with my son.
5.9.2023 - 173.0 🟰 Did cardio & strength at the gym last night and just cardio tonight. I recently purchased a workout/food log book and it helps keep me on track better. MFP works, but having the pages to flip back and forth in my hands helps me see where I’m at. Maybe I’ve just gotten bored with logging in MFP. Idk. I still do though, but usually at the end of the day. This way I know I’m not forgetting something.
5.10.2023 - ⬇️ 171.6 🎉 Nice!!! But I don’t want to get my hopes up that possibly this plateau is starting to budge. Really enjoying the new gym. I have cardio & strength tonight. I use Apple fitness + on the treadmill, rowing machine, and cycling. I like that it makes the time go by faster. 😊4 -
I think I'd like to start incorporating some strength training back into my activity routine. 6plus years ago I was majorly into kettle bell workouts, started having some issues with my elbow and shoulder and just stopped. I've got a whole set of them that my boys now use. This week I'm planning on carving myself out a space down there to give them a go again...starting slowly to make sure I get my form back.
I love kettlebell workouts! One month my niece and I did a challenge of 100 swings a day for the entire month. It was a fun challenge.

05/08 -193.4- (Trend weight 193.2) It was a quiet day yesterday. I was exhausted after DGS left yesterday. 3 days of babysitting including overnights was tough on this old gal. I ate a bit too much at lunch yesterday with my daughter but I made up for much of it the rest of the day. No exercise. Layed on the couch most of the day trying to get my gumption back after minding my grandson! Much to do today!
05/09 -194.2- (Trend weight 193.3) I travel today for my 4 month dental cleanings for myself and son. We’ll have a late restaurant lunch and do some shopping while out of town. I’ll try to choose carefully. Tomorrow is an art gallery and concert at the high school my grandchildren attend. I’ll be spending the evening with them. So many foodie things this week! No TMI yesterday or this morning. Otherwise a good day yesterday. I went to the school to walk with my son (like mall walking but no mall here). I ate within my budget.
05/10 -195.1- (Trend weight 193.6) My 63rd Birthday! Much planned over the next couple of days.

Hi, this is my 2nd round.
I’m Amanda, almost 50, wicked short 4’11” from New England.
My 1st goal is for mid-June (trip to LA/Vegas),
2nd goal for mid-August.
Appreciate all your support.
- Pre-plan meals for the day
- Daily movement
- No Late Night Snacking
Round 221 SW: 126.8
Round 222 SW: 122.6 - debloated 4.2#
Round 222 GW: 120
5/2 – 121.6
Great start to Round 222.
5/3 – 122.0
5/4 – 122.2
May the 4th be with you!
Almost did 1 pull-up: it's close. It's coming!
Max pull-ups = 8. **WHEN** will I ever get to 9?
I upped my hip thrust to 60#+thin bar. This feels good.
PR hip thrust was 205#. I’m coming back (so ever slowly).
5/5 – 121.4
Happy Margaritas Day!
5/6 – 121.0 ⬇️
So not used to weighing every day.
Almost didn’t want to weigh myself, since I had a HEFTY yummy dinner last night, but I was feeling good: great weight training this morning (instead of sleeping in)
Debloated almost 6# in 2 weeks; almost 12# in 1 month (I was sooooo bloated before getting back on track)
Did 1 pull-up today! (It’s been ?a year+ since I’ve been able to do pullups)
I’m coming back, baby!
5/7 – 122.0 ⬆️
I ate a nice filling soup before heading to the Derby party last night.
I had really great self control:
- smaller plate, so didn’t overstuffed myself
- Only 1 drink
- Only 1 bite of a delicious key lime pie
Beautiful weather on our early 4.2miles hike this morning.
5/8 - 121.2 ⬇️
Was such a beautiful day that when my gf suggested an afternoon walk, I said YES (even though I already did my weight training this morning). Great 3.3miles and gabbing all along the way.
5/9 – 120.2 ⬇️
I volunteer farm on Tuesdays at an organic farm.
3 wins:
- we get amazing nutritious yummy organic produce
- I work out in the beautiful outdoors
- I meet diverse friends, different from my usual group of people, and we chat the entire time and I often learn wonderful fascinating things from everyone.
EXHAUSTED:
Today was prepping 5 beds using this 15# broad fork tiller;
then weeding a fresh bed covered in tough weeds.
5/10 – 121.2 ⬆️
Beautiful day!
3 walks today 5.1 miles
- Wednesday Walk friends 2.6
- lunch to let out friend’s puppy 0.5
- waiting for DD appt 2 miles
Then I whipped up easy fresh shrimp rolls for dinner, with mint from my garden, and 0 calories shirataki noodles.
Kids never think about how it's just a salad rolled up.

Good Morning
My whyI am playing a game with myself & setting little daily goals of losing 0.35lbs per day and using those goals to help me stay motivated and on track is a way of fasting that I saw in another group. Using my bathroom scale as a weight loss tool works for me. There are days that my weight increases by 2 pounds or more, and I understand that this is mainly water weight, and can go away as quickly as it came. That is why there are times that my daily goal and my weight that day are pounds apart. I am not expecting to lose 2 pounds of body fat by the next day. But it is possible to lose 2 pounds of water weight by the next day, so I stick to my goals. If it takes longer than one day to lose that water weight, I extend my fast for another day. Sticking to my plan, I will reach my 1st goal weight of 172 pounds on September 16 2023. This will put me in the overweight weight range which I have not seen since 2007. At that point I will decrease the daily amount to 0.2lbs per day to get to my ultimate goal of 140 by my birthday in February. I also have a cruise booked for my birthday & one of the tours offers a mini photoshoot. What a great opportunity to be at my goal & get semi professional pictures on the beach!
I did an extended fast on April 9th that lasted almost 9 days. That got me back on track after Easter.
Round 218 SW 232.4 EW 231lbs (-1.4)
Round 219 EW 229lbs (-2)
Round 220 220.2lbs (-8.8) (Extended fast)
round 221 220.6 (+0.6) (normal after an extended fast)
Goals for this round:
Zone 2 cardio 150 minutes
Weightlifting 5x
RND 221 EW 220.6
5/2 Goal 219.3/Actual 219.8
Moving forward from the last round. I wasn’t able to fast yesterday because my stomach hurt. I wasn’t feeling well so my activity was low. I did work a full day. Today I will concentrate on drinking enough water & I will attempt to continue my fast. I am still behind. I guess I will see how I feel after my coffee & go from there.
5/3 Goal 218.6/Actual 219.4
Still not feeling great, I was up for 2 hours during the night with a very sore stomach. Hopefully this passes soon because I need energy next week to work since the weather will be better. I won’t fast when I am feeling crappy. I just don’t want the added discomfort but maybe it is exactly what my body needs to clear this gastrointestinal virus or whatever is going on. I don’t usually get stuff like this so I don’t even know how to deal with it. I know people usually resort to the BRATs diet for situations like this but none of that fits my macros. I feel like oatmeal would be soothing but I think it is more a comfort food which doesn’t work for my food is fuel new way of life.
5/4 Goal 218.3/Actual 219.2
Slowly, ever so slowly creeping down in the right direction. I slept through the night (thanks to gravol) but still feel nauseous this morning. I ate pasta yesterday which did make my stomach feel settled, but I would rather not eat that. I won’t fast again even though I have been behind for several days until I feel better. As long as the gap stays small I know I can catch up quickly.
5/5 Goal 217.9/Actual 219.6
This is how easy it is to get off track from my goals. I have been working every day. I haven’t been feeling great. So with working & being sick I have not gone to the gym. I have eaten some foods that do not fit my macros, while I have logged most things & calories have been reasonable I am not meeting my targets. Today is a planned “treat day” for cinco de mayo, but since I am feeling better I will go to the gym. I am just having Mexican take out but no margaritas. Tomorrow I will start another extended fast.
5/6 Goal 217.6/Actual 219.9
Well yesterday went as planned & will continue today. I have leftovers that I am not willing to give up so another treat day on tap followed by a 5-7 day fast starting tomorrow. I have logged everything today & I am sure my weight will be up but I know it will come right back down. No big deal.
5/7 Goal 217.2/Actual 220.9
Wow look at that! Being tired, eating junk, just destroyed 2 weeks of progress 🤦♀️. Will I learn from it? Probably not. I will just use fasting as a tool to get back where I want. I have not felt good this past week & neither eating healthy nor the junk from the past 2 days have helped. Hopefully fasting will kick whatever it is out.
5/8 Goal 216.8/Actual 220
Still not feeling great. I threw up a few times before bed last night. I planned to start my fast in the afternoon but decided to eat supper. I wish I knew what was up with my stomach. Hopefully this week will be the reset it needs. I may start some probiotics when I end my fast & I may eat carnivore for a couple of weeks just to see if it is food related. Maybe eliminating stuff is what I need to do. I also added a new supplement which I won’t be taking this week.
5/9 Goal 216.5/Actual 219
Well, now my body is getting smarter. It didn’t release a ton of water on the first day of fasting. I think that will be a good thing as I will have to give back less after I am done. I felt better yesterday, my stomach didn’t hurt. How is it that there are only 2 days left of this round? Time is passing sooo fast right now.
5/10 Goal 216.2/Actual 218.4
I actually forgot to post this morning. That is scary to me, since this is one of the things I need to do to stay focused & on track. I ended up eating supper yesterday. I was so tired & that made me unproductive at work so I couldn’t risk another day of no sleep. I am still behind so I will probably just have supper again. I don’t really like OMAD because I feel if I am eating I should be getting adequate protein & it is hard to keep calories low. I gotta figure it out before I get too far behind. I know this is not impossible I am not willing to accept defeat yet.

THE GOOD NEWS is I am using the time to TRY and finish writing my story (Book?) outline before I go to Maine. I am close to hitting a dead end here and have to get to the UM library for old Maine (Washington County) newspapers. My husband can fish and I will do research-sounds like a good deal!
Another Mainer! There are four of us here, I think 😎. I’m in Portland, @deepwoodslady is 15 miles inland, in the woods, down near Ogunquit, @SModa61 splits time between Florida Keys, MA, and OOB, and now @Machias1949 up in (I’m guessing) Mathias area 😎. It sounds like you split time between Maine and Away too?
Writing a book? How wonderful!! Wishing you success in your research and your writing ☺️.
60°F / 16° C 🌤 here in Maine - no rain!! four five days in a row!! 🥳🤣

Goals This round: It's gonna be a busy week. Gym 3 times at least. Extra steps wherever possible. Prioritize water and sleep.
5/2 DNW
5/3 161. 6
5/4 162.6 UGH. Wrong direction wrong direction. It's stress, poor sleep, not enough water more stress, and lack of time to exercise. Eating has been fine, and possibly even not enough. But I am super stressed, bloated, and icky feeling. This might not be the round I see 150s after all, which will be pretty disappointing.
5/5 161.8
5/6 DNW
5/7 159.4 Pretty ecstatic that I am finally hitting this on a day after the absolute busiest, most stressful week I have had in a long time. I didn't fit in exercise other than tons of steps naturally through my busy-ness. But I planned my food as best as possible and prioritized myself in getting what my body needs. So happy and ready to keep working my way down the 150s.
5/8 159.8 Slightly up but in a totally normal way. Don't think I will make it to the gym much in these extremely busy next few weeks but hope to continue focusing on food and getting more walks in.
5/9 160.8 I had an early dinner yesterday and then was starving at 9pm, so I ate again. I had the calories left, but rice, dumplings and soy sauce (carbs and salt) are definitely the culprit of this little blip up. Not worried.
5/10 159.6 Today I was out shopping with my daughter and got stuck in a very slow checkout lane. The candy aisle caught my eye and I suddenly badly craved the chest sprees. So I bought them (I find that I end up obsessing over unmet cravings and it goes badly.) Anyway, I ate some in the car and aas immediately horrified at how sweet they are, and felt sick. Craving over 😂
