Evening all!
Got in a 5K... Not the usual time of day for me
@quilteryoyo - glad there's water back!
@Summerskier - hope you're not struggling with the flu!
@Laurz9191 - can see you killing it with all the varied workouts! How's injury heeling?5 -
Me in a suit and tie... Last went into the office in September 2022!8

I would think nowadays people would want you to stay at away if you have ANY symptoms. Guess we will never learn.
I have always been a little weird about germs but the pandemic sent that into overdrive. If someone has a cough, sniffles, sinus stuff, whatever I want them to stay away from me! We still wear masks at work to see patients and I don't know if I will ever stop. People used to come in sick all the time and I have really enjoyed the lack of exposure over the last few years.
@kgirlhart I'm kind of surprised you haven't seen an armadillo! You see so much wildlife. I have only seen them on runs around sunrise but you are regularly out pretty early. Weird.4 -

I have some anxiety, and when we were required to stand 6 feet apart in our grocery stores it was revelatory. Peace while standing on line! I was a fan.
People are now back to tailgating in lines and crowding the people in front of them.

Snap on both! I will run a mile from a germ, and also loved the space and now mutter loudly when people crowd me.
My run today sucked, we had to do a specific route for the club challenge and it was steep with horrible footing, plus my watch didn't start and life is yucky atm. In short, I ended up struggling to breathe from trying to scramble up on all 4s while crying. Yuck. We ended up with our heads in the clouds, and my friend taking selfies while I cried. D'oh. I have to find time and courage to go back and do it all again. Well preferably not the crying or gasping for air or finding myself face down on a slope unable to move up or down. Apparently the views from the top were good, can't say I noticed them though.11 -
Definitely just a cold and not flu thank goodness. I had the flu in early 2018 and altho this was not fun it did not compare to the bone achy sweat filled flu and not even covid.
I am super careful and mask and sanitize but being at work this morning it was apparent it was widespread in the entire open Bay Area. I HATE that seating arrangement. I was masked and actually not coughing or sneezing badly today but many were hacking around me. I was happy to get out the door at noon and stay remote. Folks mostly have lost the germ careful thing I guess. Still haven’t figured out the source but sore throat on Thursday meant exposure Monday (holiday) or Tuesday (work).7 -
June 1: Walk = 2.00 miles - trip to Hot Springs
June 2: Wun/Walk = 2.00 miles - also mowed mom's lawn
June 3: Walk = 2.00 miles - also mowed my lawn
June 4: Walk = 2.00 miles
June 5: Walk = 1.00 mile - Run = 2.25 miles - driveway laps
June 5: Walk = 2.50 miles - Run = 2.00 miles - treadmill intervals plus tree debris for almost an hour
15.75/80 mile goal
I haven't posted my exercise since Saturday. I did my normal 2 mile walk on Sunday and then yesterday I did a two mile run/walk on the driveway early in the morning, while it was still cool out. I tried to keep my HR under 143 bpm, so was slow, but got the miles in.
Today was a busy one, with lots of waiting for people to show up, or not. You can read about my entire day in the spoiler below, if you are interested.
At the end of the day, I started to just wun, but decided to do quarter mile intervals on the treadmill. I did a walk/run, alternating quarter miles, at 3.8/5.0 mph. After 4 miles, I walked a half mile for cool down. I am counting it as 2 miles ran and 2.5 miles walked. The overall avg pace was 14:07 min/mile. Avg HR was 124 with a max of 150 bpm.I got up early this morning because my early bird neighbor was coming up to cut down a dead pine tree for me. It was leaning toward my driveway and I knew if it fell I'd be stuck. He got here a little before 7:30 and cut it down and up into pieces small enough for me to handle. Then, he helped me put the mower deck on my DR.
After he left, I loaded up the tree and branches into my Gator and took them to a good place to dump them where they would be out of sight and able to rot at their own rate. There were a total of 5 loads...that was my strength training for the day. Actual time picking up and being active doing that was 51 minutes.
While my neighbor was here, the Co-Op called about delivering fertilizer I had ordered, but I felt the grass was too wet and afraid the truck would slide down the steepest hill in my field, so we decided to wait until about 2:30 this afternoon - he'd call when they had a driver that could come this way.
Yesterday, I thought I had made an arrangement for an electrician to come to mom's between 10:30 and 11 to see what the cheapest fix would be to give her a better circuit for her space heaters. (The wiring in her old house is old and not really safe for that.) So, after the fifth load of twigs, I stopped at mom's and we talked until 11:30. When I hadn't heard a word from the electrician. I came on home and had a message on my house phone that said they wanted to come before 11, if possible. I didn't get the message and he hadn't heard from me, so he was at another job. He said he would try to get someone to come by later today, so I was on "hold" to see if I got a call. (I hate that, by the way.) I guess we got our wires crossed yesterday.
Since I was waiting for two people to call, I tried to find some things on my list that I could do and easily be able to stop in the middle if needed. I did find things so that I wasn't just sitting around, but couldn't start anything outside or didn't want to start a run either.
The Co-Op called about 2:20 and said they would be here in about 45 min, so I got in my Gator and went down to meet them at the road. While I waited, I trimmed some trees that were blocking my view when I pulled out from my driveway. I showed the delivery guy my field and where the line was and he got with it. Only took him about 15 min, if that.
By the time I got everything put up, it was about 4. I figured the electrician wasn't going to come, so went down for a treadmill run, in case he called. He didn't. I'm hoping he can come by in the morning or later this week.5 -
@SummerSkier I hope you feel better soon!
@Scott6255 Hahaha. At least you know you will improve your time next try, unless you forget again. Mom is a real trouper about learning new things. She has learned how to use a smart phone and text over the last two years. I'm really proud of her.
@AlphaHowls It looks like you are upping your already high bar! Great mileage for the month already.
Sounds like you had a wonderful run @kgirlhart ! Great job on the extra mileage today.
Glad you enjoyed your time away @chris_in_cal . Going back home and seeing all the changes can be hard.
Nice evening run @tarun_yadavA ! That 5K should be fun! Looking good in that suit and tie. AND, it's been almost a year since you went into the office? Amazing!
@eleanorhawkins So sorry your run was so bad for you and that life is not good atm. I hope both improve soon. The fact that you want to go back and do it again proves what a fighter you are!

Afternoon all
@Teresa502 your hike and camping experience sounds amazing. Sorry it resulted in blisters. Hopefully those heal sooner rather than later.
Today, I've just managed a short run, very short but i had to squeeze it in between housework and a work call. I'm hoping to get out after the kids have gone to bed, its still super light outside till just before 10pmso fingers crossed. I didn't run/wog yesterday - but i did go swimming which was nice. I need a better/maybe bigger swimming hat though because I really hate getting my hair done and then getting it wet!

June 3 – 7.03 miles
June 6 – 5.06 miles
June 7 – 3.36 miles
15.45/75 miles
This morning’s run was a struggle fest. I ran out of energy on mile 2 but I kept on until I finally called it quits at 3.36 miles. It was raining but that was fine. Felt good actually. I did miss seeing my morning skyline lighting up with daylight. Blisters are healing fine. The one on my heal is still a little tender but I appreciate all the well wishes from everyone.
@Glow87 – I hear you on the hair! I had my gray roots covered up yesterday and hated having to wash it after my run this morning but it felt so much better after a shampoo.
@quilteryoyo – Even though the electrician didn’t show up yesterday, you had quite a productive day. I bet your to-do list took quite a beating!
@SummerSkier – Glad you are on the mend and hope the cold is gone soon.
@eleanorhawkins – Sounds like a good cry was just what you needed. You are a tough one and you will conquer that route and revel in those clouds. I have faith in you!
Looking fine @tarun_yadavA! Beginning yesterday, most of our office workers were ordered back to the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays while retaining the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. I’ve been in and out of the office (mostly in) for over a year varying the days depending on my schedule of appointments. I was shocked by how many people were still working remotely. The parking lots were so much more fuller and the chatter…. Drove me crazy! I work from a cubicle and people can be so inconsiderate in where they choose to have their conversations. Rant over! 😊 I'm defying the protocol and working from home today. Technically, my boss hasn't asked me to work in the office on any specific days. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
Hope you had a good visit and safe travels home chris_in_cal.

You clean up well @tarun_yadavA
I was really bummed that I didn't go run this morning as it is Global Running Day. But went to a concert last night and got home late and couldn't get my butt up in time. Hope to sneak out of work early and at least do a TM run.6 -
I am super poor because I just dumped all of my money into buying a house.
I appreciate Garmin watches for swimming, bicycling, and running. Mine is going on 5 years old. The company just released a new model: Garmin Forerunner 265 and I want one.
Rather than retail therapy and wrongheaded impulse buying I am going to put some weight (eh hem) into it.
Black Friday is a big sale day. It is about 24 weeks from now. I weigh 244 lbs today. Losing about two pounds a week will get me below 200 lbs. by Black Friday. That's the plan.
Breech 200 lbs by Black Friday and recognize my efforts by buying myself a new Garmin.

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the kind words!
Yeah, evening run yesterday messed with my system... So given myself a rare off-day! I was in the office again today and thought, 'shall I run tonight?'... 'or reset back to mornings' from Thursday.
RE: WFH. I don't actually live that far from my office. My immediate boss lives in Southampton out on the coast, (2hr train ride), and he's not thrilled about having to commute again. I think he comes in just twice a week... But isn't that bothered as to whether I do or not. I have been seconded onto this Legal project, so my 'dotted line' line manager for this project is pretty chill too. We had a meeting with externals (KPMG) yesterday and today, so had to go into dressed smart - hence the tie as well.
Otherwise, people are starting to go in... It wouldn't bother me too much if I had to. Just got into a routine I guess. Drop my 8 year old to school, run, then start day at around 10 and just stay online as to whenever.
When it's quiet, happily binge watch away... Got all 3 seasons of Ted Lasso done over the last 2 weeks! Goals! (Pun intended!)5 -
Wow! Lots of posts to catch up on .
@chris_in_cal I hope you had a nice trip back and had a nice time playing golf.
@eleanorhawkins I am sorry you had such an hard run! That sounds awful! I really hope the next time you are up there it’s a lot more enjoyable and you can enjoy it!
@quilteryoyo You really have a lot to get done! That sounds like a packed day.
@AlphaHowls I also noticed you’ve been upping your miles. I really enjoy your sunset pictures! They always look beautiful!
I am surprised to hear that so many of you are still/were still working remotely. We stopped that over a year ago (although it is now very flexible with home office if we chose to do so a few days per week. I almost always go in because I like to see other grown up people during the day and I’m more productive.
I have been slowly easing back into training. Yesterday I did a big cross training switch up - a little over 30 min running, then the same for the elliptical, and the same for the bike. I think I’m going to try to work at least one such cross training workout per week into my routine. Maybe that way I can strength some of the muscle groups better and hopefully avoid future injuries. I also did a bunch of squats and lunges the day before that, which I am now paying for. I figured, if the back is hurting - work the legs. I overdid it and have been waddling around ever since, now with pain in both my legs and still a little bit it my shoulder. Way to to do recovery, me!
So this morning, due to the stiffness in my legs, and more particularly glutes , I kept the pace slow, but managed 6k. I am going to stay at roughly the same pace/distance until my back has completely healed.
So far for June 12.7/250 km.4 -

Hey, I just finished Ted Lasso too. Very cute and inspirational.
It's helpful for us Yanks to understand your football/soccer thing too. ⚽
June Running Goal: 17 runs, 45 miles- June 2 - 3.0 miles
- June 4 - 4.0 miles

- June 7 - 4.0 miles

Yike! The air quality here in NY is frightful. No running possible at the moment. Any others here under the strange yellow haze?5
-
PS I too just finished Ted Lasso. Loved the pop culture references and the feel-goodiness.1
-
@spl8 @chris_in_cal as someone who hops the pond frequently... I loved some of the subtle 'lost in translation' TransAtlantic jokes! ... Even the not-subtle ones - like Tea!
First two seasons were great!
Felt the third season was a bit disappointing. The last two episodes were good and rallied it a bit... But felt you coulda done the thing within 5 episodes. Didn't like some of the secondary characters getting more screentime with non-essential storylines... eg Nate and his girlfriend; Keeley and her business.2 -

@chris_in_cal Godspeed Sir!
Hope you're counting those calories too as well as running frequently0
