It’s 3:00 and I just finished shucking and cooking the corn. I make packets of 2 ears and then freeze it. Vince likes it on the cob, wish I could cut the corn off, would save so much more room in the freezer
Debbie – I do hope MIL gets into the place and you and dh have a little time to yourself. My bet is that before they throw her out, she’s going to be so unhappy (that they don’t do everything) that she even checks herself out
Think I’ll go in the pool for a bit

Hello all I know I’m late to the party but I just found this group. My name is Lisa and I restarted my weight loss journey this year back in mid January. I turned 50 last November and I really want to lose 70-75 pounds. I’m about halfway there so far I’ve lost 36.
I just got back from a weeklong cruise and it was nice to have that weight off before I left. But now the problem is I’m struggling because I gave myself permission to have a great vacation which included a vacation from eating healthy and cutting back on carbs and my regular exercise routine. So yeah, I’m struggling to get back in the swing of things. I do pretty well during the day it’s at night that I really want to snack on garbage.
I’m hoping you have room for one more who can use some motivation and likes to join in the chatting with those around the same age.
Cheers!

Welcome Lisa in Arizona!
Lisa and Rebecca, thinking of you!
Pip, your campsite is lovely!
I just finished riding my bike with 20 seconds sprint intervals. It really gets me puffing! I'm glad I found something that gets my heart pumping without scaring me. And it makes the time pass faster. I'm cooling down on the couch with Teddy boo which is not the right way.
If I can keep this up, I might be ready to try running in January. But the first goal is to finish my sister challenge which ends in a week. I really want to lose two pounds by then and hit 159. It's a bit of a stretch goal, and probably means that I need to rein it in at the family Sunday dinner. And be careful what time I weigh myself.
So there's yoga and aerobic walking yet today.
Hope you all are having a great day!

But, if she gets kicked out/wants to leave, that means we will be back to how it is now, with dh over there all the time. He won't stand his ground and tell her no once in a while.
Unless they actually kick her out, she can stay once we put her there.

Such a relief! My son has said he will come with me to the wedding and drive both ways on the day. I am so grateful. Luckily he doesn't drink alcohol, and we can leave after the meal and the first dance. Otherwise, I didn't really see how I was going to do it. Certainly not without spending a lot of money on hotels and trains.
So tomorrow I will reply to the invitation, which I have been putting off.
I am very fond of my niece, but she has chosen a venue that is very difficult for me to get to, and having it on a Sunday means that train travel is more difficult. Anyway, problem solved!

Busy day..
Went and met Tracy at the pediatrician, oh Miles was not a happy camper, from there went for my mammogram and then over to put some money in the bank to pay some bills. And braved Wal-Mart. Got out of there and stopped quick to drop of Creamsicle dip and dots off for my little guy.
Home and relaxing and paid a couple bills.3 -
Welcome, Lisa in Arizona, from Lisa in Arkansas! Glad you're here...
Heather - Glad you and your son will have the time together to go to the wedding, as well. You seem to do well when he drives, though I know you hate being in a car.
Allie - Always love the pics of Miles!
For those who are involved in their parents' or caregiving for husbands or partners -Spoke to my best friend at length this morning, and heard from her many of the same worries and issues that you all have. Her father (86) and her husband's mother (92) live about an hour and a half apart (in Montana), and after they sold their home for a good profit, they had a cabin built on his mother's property. That way they are there for her as needed and able to reach her dad very quickly if he needs them.Unfortunately, I was less than thrilled to find that they scheduled me to check in for the scopes at 3:30 in the afternoon tomorrow, and I am to stay on clear liquids until two hours before check in. So - I've been on this liquid fast for 44 hours now, with about 20 more to go, then nothing by mouth at all for about 8 hours. Presumably, I'll be out cold for some part of it, thank goodness. I've lost four pounds already, and am shoving as much liquid in me as I can, am no longer hungry, just tired, even after a long nap this afternoon. Corey's deliberately eating something that I'm not fond of, which I appreciate.
However, my friend sounds more exhausted every day, and has now come down with what is probably RSV again for the third time this year. Both parents still drive, and neither contemplates stopping anytime soon. In fact, one of his three brothers suggested they need to take their mom's driver's license away, and her husband, who is a retired state trooper, told them he wouldn't have anything to do with it.
She drives safely, usually just to the grocery store about ten miles away, and if she does have an accident, it won't be a high speed one on her part. I was able to give my friend some advice from all your adventures with the same situations, thank you all for what you've shared.
Mine and Corey's parents are all dead and have been for years. While I miss my mother terribly, I'm glad I don't have to make those kind of decisions about her life and health.
Time to make me a cup of honey vanilla chamomile tea... and then the gallon of GoLytely to drink eight ounces at a time... such fun!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR9 -
Lisa, Sorry your having to put up with a clear liquid diet before the scopes. Thank you for sharing about your weight loss journey. I didn't know you had had gastric bypass.
Lanette: Thank you also for sharing about the bulimia.
Machka: Hope your knee heals. Love the re-purposed furniture ideas!
Kim: I enjoyed picturing the ladies doing the breast stroke and talking. I hope you become good friends with them!
FitBee9: Congrats on walking 6 miles on the AT.
PIPCD34: Love the camping set up
Katla: When is the county fair?
Jenny and Melissa: Welcome Back!
Jeanne: Welcome!
RV Rita: 112 degrees is pretty hot! Scary!
Rebecca: 17 pen pals! Wow! I have trouble keeping up with this blog! I can't imagine. You must receive a letter every day!
Debbie: Maybe your MIL could adjust to a home and wouldn't that be wonderful for you and your husband!
Joy: This is the time of year in GA when I should be watering 2x a day. I have a couple of hydrangeas that really droop without the water!
Grandmallie: Love the pictures of Miles!
I was losing weight on WW, but suddenly went up 3 pounds. I think it is from lack of exercise...even missing a couple of days is a problem. I am going to try and stand up every hour and do 500 steps!
Also I am going with my son and DIL to a wedding in MA next year. After much consideration I booked
2 nights in Bar Harbor Maine. We can fly into Boston and out of Portland Maine without an additional fee and there doesn't seem to be a fee to drop off the rental car in Portland. I can always cancel if the costs look too high.
I always wanted to see Acadia National Park where the forest meets the ocean!
I have decided to try and see the National Park by riding an electric bike. I have never ridden an electric bike. The bike will not have a throttle which I understand would make it easier. There will still be about 20 miles of pedaling to do. People in their 60's do this but apparently it is tiring as well. This will be on gravel which concerns me a little. And there will be horse drawn carriages on the road taking tourists around.
So I have a year to get in shape for this one day at Acadia National Park. I plan to start riding the stationary bikes at the gym and increase the resistance and get to 30 miles a session anyway!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia
I may have bitten off too much. I am not sure.12 -

Ah no, afternoon procedures suck! If you get a headache just put a couple kernels of Himalayan pink salt under your tongue and it lessons. I started fasting about 6 pm last night, so I'm at 23 hours. I will end at noon tomorrow, so about 42 hrs. Right now I am cold, so will take a hot shower! Lisa we got this!

Lisa – welcome and congrats on the loss. I know what you mean about needing to get back on track. Lately, I’d eat late at night and tell myself that I was using the calories I burned during the day exercising. Ate a little too much. Got on the scale this morning and did I get a shock! Time to get back to real serious business. I have the same problem, I like to snack at night. I do find that I take my walk either around the block or down to the store and this seems to help (some). Where did you go on your cruise?
Speaking of which: walked to the dollar store and got wrapping paper for the gift for the gal who is retiring from the soup kitchen. Stopped at Food Lion since they have cabbage on sale for 39 cents a pound, only they didn’t have any out so I got a raincheck. Maybe they’ll have some tomorrow.

Good evening ladies!
Today I ate 1094 calories. Yay! And I rode my bike twenty eight minutes, did an hour of yoga, and thirty minutes of aerobic walking. Yay! My deficit is 511. Yay!
There's one more week in the sister challenge, so this is the time for me to get tough!

I am at my highest weight ever! Before the pandemic I weighed 166 and now 174. Pip...Need your boot. Poor food choices and too much wine. Exercise is almost out of the question because I seem to injure some part of my body each time I try.
Tomorrow is a new day and I pray that I will get back to learned habits from the past.
Carol in GA10 -
Today I drove our new car. There is a learning curve with an electric car. Yesterday Jake showed me how to unlock the car, start it, and put it in reverse and in drive. The brakes work really differently than what I'm used to. I drove around our neighbourhood (maximum speed 15 mph) for awhile today with Jake in the passenger seat. Tomorrow I'll go somewhere else by myself where I have to drive a normal speed in the presence of other drivers. it handles well and has great acceleration and great brakes. I am thrilled. When I drive by myself I can play my own music through the excellent sound system.
We finally got the title to the Subaru and got insurance confirmed on the Tesla with the necessary paperwork for the lender. Tomorrow we meet the buyer of the Subaru at the Department of Licensing to transfer title to her and get our names off. There is a lot to this car selling and buying business when you don't have the dealer to do it all. It's like "Whack-a-Mole" As soon as you do one thing, another pops up.
Lisa in Arkansas, I'll be thinking of you and your liquid diet day. For my colonoscopy I consumed a vast amount of clear chicken broth and apple juice. I didn't have a colonoscopy until I was 64 years old and I gained the courage to do it because of the women on this thread told me it was possible and I could do it. They were right.
Heather, How great that your son will make it possible for you to go the wedding. You've been there for him and now he is there for you.

Carol, don't give up! Keep trying different techniques until you find what works for your body in your lifestyle. Everyone is different as to how they can eat less and move more. You might not be able to exercise as much as you would like, but you can start where you are and build a foundation for the future. You can do this! It just takes time and there are always a few setbacks.

Carol,
Don't eliminate exercise, just rethink it... when taking something from one end of the house to the other do it in 2 or 3 trips instead of one and you just exercised! maybe some arm circles while watching TV... just start really slow! Injury is not the goal! LOL just a tiny bit more movement, and if you keep adding movement you might end up exercising and barely realize it.

Barbie - I don’t use the term cheat day either. I just log my food and be aware, some days are worse than others. For the last while every day is poor, but I’m trying to get better again.
I can hear the excitement of driving your new car! So happy for you.
Flea - beautiful view.
Lisa - you are a beautiful writer. I enjoyed that. I hope you have a relatively easy prep.
Machka - those are some beautiful repurposed pieces.
Katla - I love county fairs, have fun!
Heather - that sounds like a book my Grandson would enjoy. I may need to find it. That sounds like an excellent idea for the wedding, I’m glad your son is able to escort you.
😂 I agree with you, my first thought when “making shirts” is that I’m sewing. The Cricut community uses that term, I guess I’ve picked it up. Printing works, although, again in the Cricut community that means something else. It’s really just vinyl applied.
School does get out late there, I think they have more longer breaks throughout the year though.
Rebecca - I have fun with my Cricut. At times I feel I just waste time with it.
You are handling the absence of your son with grace. Hugs to you.
Vicki - I have heard geocaching is a lot of fun. I keep thinking I should try it.
Debbie - I hope your MIL makes the move and you and DH can get things straightened out. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.
DH and I are going camping at the end of August. I picked up some dishcloths and a tablecloth at the dollar store to take today. I need to start a list. I am also buying tickets to some of the things we want to do while there before we go.
I bought a new bra yesterday, I tried it on before purchasing and it felt fine. Today I wore it and it’s driving me a little crazy. Can we not go to a braless society? If men had to wear them they wouldn’t exist I’m sure.
On seniors, I know of one lady that lived on her own and still drive until she was 97 when she decided to give it up. She did get a medical every year to ease her children’s minds. The other I learned about last week, she is 98 still lives alone, still gardens, has relented and allowed a cleaner, but still drives. I think it is fully dependent on the person and not the age. My Grandmother drive much longer than my Mom, my Mom we were concerned with her getting lost.
Rosemarie- I think you can work up to it and have a wonderful time. I travelled through Maine several times, but never saw the forest meet the ocean.
Jonah is here tonight, he had his 2nd art club night. I paid for two sessions. Tonight though when I went to pick him up he couldn’t bring tonight’s because it has to dry to do the next step next week. I will pay for it so he can finish, but I feel a little duped. If she was going to have over two nights she should have stated that when I signed him up. Another parent was a bit taken aback as well. Now I’ll have to do something with Michaela for a night. It’s not a hardship, just irritating.
I have someone coming to look at my dishwasher tomorrow. It is killing my back doing the dishes by hand.
It is raining here tonight. I hope it continues to get some fires under control.

Belated “Welcome Back” @PackerFaninGB Tracie in WI! This book really helped me overcome my fear of retirement: “How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free: Retirement Wisdom That You Won't Get from Your Financial Advisor” by Ernie J. Zelinski. Finding physical activities I enjoy (not the dread “E” word) and volunteering helps my sense of self-worth. Good luck!
Belated Welcome @FitBee9 Barb in NC! Thanks for being “Barb” it helps distinguish between Barbie our leader, and me, Barbara, the Ageing Hippie Mother of Dogs  Great advice to Tracie in WI.
Allie way to put a positive spin on a tough day.
Rosemarie $280 ouch! Glad the mystery was solved.
Lanette love the “and hang out with my chickens” sign.
LeAnne sounds like you’ve found a winning combination: “portion control is much better” “eating better in general” and “7000 steps”. Well done!
Annie con VERY grats on the 3 lbs! Well done!
Lisa you’ll get an email reminder when its time to “manage” your Amazon subscription so if you keep up on your email no worry to forget to cancel or postpone delivery. Brava for getting back on the elliptical!
Pip dang, gal, you have ridden nearly twice the miles of your nearest competitor. Just WOW!
Annie Thanks, but I feel more like “sneaking up on the homeostasis” than accomplished for working hard. These are tinier than baby steps, maybe molecular steps?
Michele Vince told you how to do dishes? And I thought he was a smart guy…
Rita I keep hearing about the killing heat in your area and praying for you. At this point keeping cool is much more important that exercising outside. Please be safe!
Ginny what is making you feel torn about retiring? Your passion for the work you do? The people you work with? I won’t lie, it IS a transition, but mine went far more easily than I feared.
Lisa I cannot imagine a universe in which I tried on my wedding gown, though I loved it and the fabric it was made of.
Rebecca that leak/floor situation sounds dire! Athena’s new do.
Barbie hearing about your scenic drive plans. Really love the pic, your smiles and that you got the red one!!! Welcome Papillon.
Debbie this time the tea was on a shelf above the frozen foods ;} Good for you and DH for setting boundaries with Ezie’s family.
Only thru pg 35 but falling asleep…
7/12 gratitude: ibuprofen.07/11: Move: 2 sets PT w/d, dogs to powerline. Steps: 3759 :PLater, lighter, lovelies!

One way to start is to avoid drinking your calories.
I stopped drinking my calories several decades ago and almost immediately dropped 5 lbs.
Unfortunately, I can't use that technique to lose 5lbs now!
M in Oz5 -
I am really missing exercise.
I'm hardly walking and not climbing stairs.
It's a week till my MRI and I'm still in a lot of pain. Plus the knee is weak and I have to be so careful when I do walk.
M in Oz11 -
Machka: I can empathise with missing the exercise. I tend to get twitchy if I cant stay active.
Barbie: Glad that you are enjoying the new car. DH and I are toying with getting electric for our next ones.

Carol-Annie and Kim are right-find what works for you. Moving extra around the house is a good start-the extra trips can add up. I'm working at getting vacation and quit smoking weight off-we can do this!
Rosemarie-I think you will enjoy Acadia. I have not been in Maine since the the early 1980s but I lived there for a few years-beautiful country, wonderful experience. A friend who visited last year said they have done a good job of having a variety of trails you can walk so you don't have to be the top performer to enjoy it.
Heather-happy to hear son is helping with wedding trip.
Barbara-I think my hesitancy is a bit of all of it. There is my work "bucket list" which is getting closer to completion. I also am involved with readjusting some positions for better transition. Someone we thought could work at something really isn't. And I am still rather passionate about the work. I know I am close to being ready so I am checking out everything I can so I am ready. However, I am also working on taking more me time so I start separating.
Work from home today. Heading out for walk as soon as daybreak hits. I really like walking at that time. Have 8 am appointment for blood work for next endocrinologist appointment (I get ct scans the day of his visit). Air quality is supposed to be a bit better here today. Sinuses are not happy so think I will take some Allegra-mold and stuff a bit high here today.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio6 -
