Tracey I took an Orton-Gillingham course in college. It was one of the first methods to address teaching students with dyslexia. It helped improve my spelling. I liked that they believe in teaching the patterns of reading and 85% of English language fit into a pattern. Kudos for becoming certified!3

I’m glad I found this group. I started my weight loss journey, again, last October. My weight had been stalled since June. I finally got frustrated with what I was doing so I decided to try this again. I lost 2lbs my first week. I hesitate to use programs like this or WW, because they have made me obsess about the next meal or what can I eat or not eat. I’m coming in with a new mindset this time. I have a long term goal, I’m going on a cruise in April with my 24 year old daughter, I want to feel confident in a swim suit. Small goal, get out of the 230’s. Been there too long. 236.8 today.11

Good morning, ladies.
Tracey, congrats on becoming certified! Enjoyed seeing your holiday pics.
Haven't seen my pair of hummingbirds lately so not sure if they have moved on. Still putting out fresh sugar water though as I know we get a few more from northern Alberta when they start migrating.
Quiet day today as DH is working on his summerfallow as the fields have finally dried down enough. Our barley field is just about ready to swath and combine. Will probably start later next week. Some farmers are struggling combining as they are continually getting stuck on the field due to wet conditions. I'm hoping DH doesn't have that issue when he starts.
Have quite a few tomatoes in the garden so think I'm going to start picking a few. They are still green but can ripen in the house. Getting a bit concerned about frost and don't want to have to deal with them all at once if temps dip down too low.

Barbie--Thanks for keeping us going. I am so looking forward to Fall and cooler temps.
Lisa--Great news on the commendation medal for your DD. Sorry to hear your ex is causing problems, but he messed with the wrong people when he messed with the army. I don't think they will just let it go.
Going to be hot the next couple days. After work today off until Monday and don't have a real plans. Work on my picture project and do some house work. So happy it's Friday.

Heather – seeing that crane reminds me of when they installed the pool. They had the pool go right over the house! It WAS something to see, our one neighbor brought out her lawn chair to watch. Then when they put in the spa. It was upside down as they brought it over the house. I swear, upside down it looked like a spacecraft!

Here is the monthly list I use for you to copy if you’d like. Thank you Machka for posting the calendar. I always forget to post it in a format that works on here.
The things in spoilers is mostly for me to remember and accountability. Read if you will, and copy/change what works for you. This method works for me. 😍

Barbie thanks as always for the new thread. You are our rock!
Allie you ran over your foot? Like Tracey, your “little friend” would have scared me.
Belated welcome @aidengeorgeinfo.
Welcome @carlaluvs2sing Carla from NC, lots here love to sing, Rebecca, Margaret, others (Sue in Wa?). I love to sing but because I also love my DH and pew buddies I keep it down except for in the car
Lisa “Arnold Schwarzeneggery, so strong enough to easily yank it down. Wonder if that's what the growly/grunt was? "I'll be back..." in raccoon?” Scary then but how you made it funny.
Likewise Barbie, “It has been an opportunity for spiritual growth for all four of us.” Oh yeah…
Annie “slingshot and peanut M&Ms because they are biodegradable” A real tea-snorter.
Katla I’ve never seen our hummingbirds share the feeder at the same time. We do have a few that aggressively chase the others away, Love it when the tiny ones come and take l o o o n g drinks.
Heather Yikes. Cannot imagine living through that renovation onsite. Sounds like DDIL is handling her decision fatigue as best she can. Insightful about how others don’t see as we do. Johnny’s latest.
Beth brilliant suggestion to Heather about Edie’s art/homework station.
Barbie again, just saw the patience and wisdom meme. Snorted the last of my tea. ROTFLMAO!
Vicki where DID all those old people come from? Like that woman in the mirror. Oh.
Ginny miraculously the laptop is still chugging along. Black Friday, hmm. Good idea. Our finances MAY have recovered by then…
Cindy in Pensacola thankful you dodged the worst of the hurricane.
Machka I confess to being jealous of your lengthening daylight. If I were a snow bird… “1001 meetings” :noway:
Tracey con VERY gratulations on your certification! You are on the way!
Lanette loved the Mrs. Pollifax series. Also now loving the Inspector Gamache series thanks to your recommendation.
Lisa brava for Kels. She has the grit to wade through that paper mess. Hope the Army can figure out how to rein in the ex without penalizing her and the kids.
Welcome @petekimclaire and congratulations on the new mindset!
Joy have I told you lately how much I admire all you hardworking farmers? Way beyond my scope.
Well done on the goals Rita!

Lisa, I’m curious to know if you like your new spin mop. My mother adores hers. Every house cleaner I’ve ever had swore by them. I have tried them twice and cannot love them. I ended up passing them both on to Mama. I prefer a flat microfiber covered mop head. Dave prefers a plain old-fashioned string mop. We are therefore a two mop family, but neither are the spin mop.
PTracey, my morning devotional reading had a story about the perf3ct looking flowers in a hotel lobby being plastic and the way the writer could tell the green plants were real was that there was a small brown spot on one of the leaves. Anyway, the point was that real things or people are imperfect and ultimately the better choice. Embrace your achievements, and celebrate being real.
Machka, interesting observation about seeing things differently. The other women in my bridge group say that I organize my cards backwards. I put them in ascending order from left to right. I tried their way once, but it seemed so wrong!

Had a good clear out of my spice collection today and got my pull-out spice drawer in order. It was full of little empty bottles, which I never use these days, because I always order in bigger quantities. We've washed them out, and they may come in useful. If not, I will bin them. I'm using jam jars for spices and herbs to hand, and spare packets are in the utility room.
Next job is the dry goods drawer in the utility room. I've just thrown out two packets of soup bean mix which DH bought and I know I will never use. It just needs rationalising into sections.
All the decluttering coming along nicely!
Very grateful to Clutterbug.
Decent article here on fitness and diet. Always good to remind ourselves of the importance of strength training as we get older.

Tracey-breaking the streak had to happen some time! It is way ok that it did. The piece of paper at the end is what people will look for-very seldom are actual grades important. I think you are spot on about finding time to move during your day to keep back in shape. A sit/stand desk may be helpful-depending on type of computer you can sometimes improvise.
Heather-the construction crane pictures were impressive. I hope they can have most everything settled by the time children start school. DH picture is very nice-I like the colors and the overall feel.
Rebecca-insurance makes sense about doctors-every plan has different rules to follow. If you don't follow all of them you can end up paying more $$ for no really good reason.
Machka-we do all see things differently. Yesterday I injured as to location of room someone was talking about-I am very familiar with the building. Even when he drew a diagram I couldn't completely visualize. He left out a door I considered to be important to the picture. He said since it is usually open he doesn't consider it . . . perhaps there is a gender difference? I try to keep patience when probing for understanding.
I think steroid is helping knock back inflammation. I have a few more days to go on medications. I have knocked back walking to 20 minute stretches. Hopefully I can work back up because I do like the distance and help with calories but I will just have to monitor.
Was thinking of going off and hitting casino today but think I will work most of morning and take some time early this pm. I really need to finish back room and get other stuff caught up. With long weekend I can make some very good progress. Need to map out things that need done before selling house next year and start on them.
Off to do something to start my day. Stretches and a short walk are on agenda.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
Sadly my military insurance gets a bad wrap. Between doctors needing to be in its system, to doctors being in their system that have changed medical fields or retired, it makes it difficult for my primary doctors to effectively choose a doctor these days. Our clinic on base has family practice doctors but no specialty docs. Many out in town doctors are full up, so its a long wait even be able to make an appointment. My ENT doc appointment is in December. But you take what you can. Our insurance tends to pay medical companies pennies on the procedure. So like my $1500 gallbladder experience was broken down to my insurance paying a $400, my bill was $75, and the medical company has to eat the rest.

Ginny – That’s all I could do when taking the steroids is let my body decide when it could sleep, because it was certainly not in my control! Was glad to see the back of them… That said, I do hope they’re helping that inflammation.
Machka – I don’t even know how to tell you how happy it makes me that you’re headed into spring as I’m sitting here with the first hint of cool fall mornings in the air. It gives me hope for our world – that women spread so far apart across the globe that we are not just in different time zones but different seasons can find this common ground to stand on. Here is the place where we can care for our own lives, the lives of those we love, and each other. It’s a joyful thing, this—happy spring, dear heart. And well done on the 5.4 kg loss!
Heather - Makes me think of your "interbeing" reference, that global sense of belonging. Love Johnny's newest work, very striking.
Debbie – I always wonder if I’m not moving fast enough when the vultures start checking me out! Your walk through the wetlands sounds absolutely wonderful.
Rebecca – That’s so funny, Amazon is supposed to deliver a spin mop today that I ordered a week ago. My daughter recommended the spin mop, and I have great faith in her Army-instilled need for things to be completely clean! Glad you're going to see both your youngest and eldest in the months to come--they'll be there before you know it!
Speaking of my daughter, I meant to say before we left August that she will be receiving an Army Commendation Medal for her actions in taking control of the situation with the older gentleman in the Salt Lake City airport, including performing CPR and the defibrillator and keeping him going until emergency services arrived. Always proud of Kelsey, and terribly pleased to see that the Army is too.
A rant on more on her ex-husband's shenanigans:Talked to Kels last night, because she just found out that her ex-husband filed paperwork last March to show that the kids live with him in order to obtain base housing in Georgia this summer. The divorce decree is very clear that Kelsey has primary custody, but somehow, he got both kids' domestic arrangements and medical paperwork information changed in the system to reflect them living at his Georgia on-base address, where he was not even entitled to live.
He also apparently threw in some gratuitous annoyance by changing all of Kelsey's addresses in that same system back to the Kansas base that she left nearly nine months ago. She reported it all to her first sergeant, who will deal with it at command level, and she is going to have to wade through the horrible mess of trying to get the Army systems (that don't always talk to each other) to understand both where she lives and that the kids live with her, not with him.
He might have finally overreached himself by defrauding the government and falsifying government documents, but he's a slippery little son-of-a-gun and may figure out a way to weasel out of it. Having him thrown out of the Army, or in jail, wouldn't be to the kids' benefit, but I'm hoping they at LEAST level a fine and a reduction in rank for obtaining benefits he wasn't entitled to, like base housing. She's already after him for more than $3,000 he owes for his share of childcare as well. The Army takes his child support payments out of his check automatically, but the childcare obligation is variable, so can't be done that way.
The cool mornings really are such an amazing thing, especially after 105 degree afternoons like yesterday. Means fall is coming, one of my two favorite seasons, and that summer is nearly over. Hope everyone's doing well... glad we've all made it to September.
Much love from the cool, serene and green River Valley of Arkansas,
Lisa

New to MFP and macros. I am sooo ready! I told my husband let's start after we get back from San Fran next weekend. Took a picture of my son and I at his football game last night and told my husband, not waiting until next week! Starting tomorrow (which is today)! Sooo here I am. After an emergency hysto in 2013 I have been at 200 give or take 5 pounds either way. But then, around 2021 the weight started creeping up and up. highest 225. cannot for the life of me go back down. I am a total comfort eater and have become very sedentary - which I never was. I ache. I complain. I'm unhappy and I stopped looking in the mirror years ago. I'm 53 but feel 90!!! I'm at rock bottom.17

Lisa- I guess I spoke too soon about not having raccoons around right now. Last night I woke up to two of them fighting over the cat food in the back yard that I put out for Jack(feral cat that has lived in our back yard for years). DH said he watched on the camera and three were in the front yard. I went out this morning and had to replant one pot of carnations that they had dumped over and tore up. Cat food dishes in the front and side by the garage were all empty and a mess. They had fun last night.
(EDIT-he looked at the camera again and there were 4)
Back to pulling most of the food in the evenings but need to leave enough for the cats that come here to eat at night. Jack got me out of bed at 1:30, crying by the bedroom window(where the catio is attached, wanting food so I went out and gave him some food.
woke up earlier than I wanted and once the cats see me awake, they want to eat, so fed them.
Pulled out everything to make pork katsu.(breaded, tenderized pork chops-using panko for the breading) Got boneless pork chops marked down at Walmart yesterday. Pulled out my big meat tenderizer machine- LOVE that thing-best $20 I spent at a garage sale years ago.-just drop in the meat at the top, turn the handle and it has little knives that tenderize the meat. Run it through a few times to make sure it is really tenderized. Great for steak for chicken fried steak, or for chicken and pork.
Marinating for a few hours then will fry them. Have rice already made, broccoli steamed so just need to put together a salad to go with mine(I skip the rice but dh has to have rice)
Weather is a bit cooler today. High of just 71.3 -

Interesting story about the plants.💖. It reminded me of last months video chats with my eldest sister. We both were having a particularly hard day, so we were both crying at each other. I exclaimed that it was such a blessing to be able to feel the difficult feelings, to be able to feel my grief regarding missing my youngest. I was so glad to be in a situation where I can express it, deal with it, and not be like our middle sister that tends to hide her feelings. Her reasoning, if I don't acknowledge them, they don't exist. She doesn't have the responsibility of empathizing, so its not her burden. I feel honored that my eldest sister will call me on her tough days missing her husband. We share her feelings, make them valid, and I give her some grace to feel them. That's what family does.💖. Being real with each other and looking at the blessings.

Debbie - sounds like you had a wonderful walk, great to hear about birds returning. Do you run into many other people when you are walking? Do you ever fear for your safety? I picked up a cannister of pepper spray at the hardware store last week, should work good on dogs or people. I don't walk anywhere isolated, but during early morning there aren't many other folks around. DH would worry and told me to vary the times and my route a little so no one gets used to my habits.
Make it a fabulous day
Lanette

There are usually other people around in the distance. It is a bit odd walking in some areas where I can see a long distance around me and not see anyone. I just make sure I am super aware. Most of the walk is out in the open. There is one spot that is more isolated that used to bother me but not anymore.
There is one trail that I walked once but was way too isolated at the end of the loop. I thought it was just me but then I talked to two different friends and they said they felt the same way about the same spot(before I even mentioned it)
Everyone is very friendly, many walk their dogs there. Yesterday I saw Macy, a little dog in a doggy wheelchair- super nice guy owns her. Second time seeing her.
Most are on leash but a few aren't but I haven't had a problem with any of them or the people.
I used to do the same route over there(not a lot of options but a few different ones) when I was doing it four days a week. Now I am just doing that 2 days a week. I was walking the neighborhood a lot but haven't the past few weeks- been lazy-need to start up again. With that, I change it up every day, so I don't get bored but also to vary it for safety reasons

Stat for the day-
Outside bike ride- 2hrs 1min 13sec, 259elev, 71aw, 14amph, 134ahr, 157mhr, 28.35mi= 1029c
Strava app= 578c
3 good things happened this 1st day of September:
1- I came home from my outside bike ride before kirby came hom from walking the kids for the usual 6 miles, that’s a first!
2- with a little more effort (didn’t ride up any major hills, that was yesterday) I rode 14 average miles per hour, haven’t done that in a bit!
3- like I said I would, I went over 2000 miles!
And I was home at 9am

Well, what do you know! I came downstairs to find DH 'decluttering' his pine desk in his study. Drawers full of stuff from his teaching career, that we will never use. He hasn't finished, but has made a start. I know there are decomposing rubber bands in there! Far too many drawing pins and paper clips!
I'm still waiting for him to decide what to do with the kitchen cupboard door that fell off. I haven't said anything yet, but I'm working up to asking him if he has a plan. I could always threaten to get a man in.
Fabulous meal.
Looking forward to more decluttering tomorrow. L wants me to phone her about memoir writing.

Good afternoon from Arkansas... and the heat here is past 90 degrees now,
That means, of course, that I'm back inside, but it was absolutely glorious being outside and working for nearly two hours in the cool morning air... At about 8 a.m., I started trimming one of the trees along the fence line we share with the neighbors. After I started, though, I found that many of the larger branches were dead, and by the time I got all the dead wood out as well as the part that I started to trim in the first place, it was two hours later and the brush pile was taller than me! Hauling that to the burn pit took some time, but I was able to drag the big brushes myself and loaded the bitsy ones on my garden wagon. Good exercise, in the end.
Unfortunately, very near the end, I also got my little chainsaw lopper in a bind and jumped the chain off the bar, rendering it inoperable... I also hauled enough brush that I'm now pretty much sitting or lying down for the rest of the afternoon whether I like it or not... ah well, there really are worse things. I'll have to get Corey to show me how to reseat the chain on the lopper. Annoying to disable something without knowing how to re-enable it.
Before I went all lumber-jacky, I did a load of laundry, got the garden watered, dishes done, bed made, and walked down to check the mail. All this might have something to do with the fact that I slept for nearly 8 hours... Have been juggling medications trying to move the ones that disturb my sleep so that I can take them in the morning and the ones that help it or at least don't hurt it at night. Might have finally got the combination right last night. It's the small things. If I can't sleep, I don't heal.
Welcome to those of you who are new! We're glad you're here, bookmark this thread, come see us often, and don't forget to sign the name you'd like us to call you with at least a vague location. Helps us keep everyone straight!
Time to get a bit of sewing done, very much a sitting down thing...
Happy Friday, happy September,
Love y'all!

There is a great series on Netflix about people who live to be 100 in the blue zones and how they live their lives. There are some great lessons for us all and great people and great scenery. Put "blue zone" in the search and you'll find it.
Jake talked to a woman on staff at the humane society and found out more about Bodhi's history. He is only seven months old and was found with a brother and sister where they had been abandoned in a dumpster behind a grocery store in Northern California. The sister was adopted in California and the brother was adopted earlier in the day that we got Bodhi only shortly after they arrived in a van from California with a dozen other dogs. No wonder he is so fearful and puppyish. We have an appointment on Wednesday to adopt him. It will take awhile but this is the month for us to learn more about patience. He has learned so much already. Bessie and he are bonding.

Got to watch a swan family parade at the wetlands today- I had ten extra minutes so walked back down by the largest lake/pond and they came from behind the bushes very close to the bank where I was standing.
These other pictures are from yesterday. First one is a bit blurry- tried to zoom in- wish I could figure out what they are, they are very tiny and tons of them. The size of baby chicks
