Cat update - I went back 3 times spent about 2.5 hours there... no cat. (last time was 9-9:30pm) I kept texting with the owners and they said to leave it out overnight. I did but got little sleep. I am in a suburban area, but we have open space (a few thousand acres of private ranch land) just 1/2 mile away, so we have regular visits from fox, coyotes, and wild boar. The coyotes have had a bunch of kits this year and when it is quiet at night or early dawn you can hear them vocalizing. So 1:15 am I am awake to coyotes that sound so close - I could see 3-4 out the front window - I was not going out ! I just kept hoping that the cat was safe. This morning I found him in his front yard. He is hurt, limping but no broken skin. And will not let me get close, it took most of an hour of moving the food closer and closer to the front door, then in the house with me hiding behind the front door and watching until he was inside then closing the door quickly.
I told the parents that I was not letting that cat out again while they were gone.
this cat tends to spray, but never when I am there - I truly think it is because I clean the litter boxes 2 times a day - they do it 2 times a week. But for the extra time each day to clean boxes is far less then I spent yesterday and today dealing with getting the cat in. And of course the worry!
Kim, the tired cat sitter.

I am glad the cat is back inside ... and I wouldn't let it out again either!
Rhody is an inside cat or outside on his leash. We don't let him roam. It's actually illegal to let him roam where we are.
There are several boarding facilities where we are. Some for cats, some for dogs, some for both.

Did Kettleworx Cardio DVD then walked to Food Lion and got more of the pretzels that are on sale and some cheese. I didn’t realize it was still on sale. Bought gas then went to Aldi. Now have one of those pineapple angel food cakes in the oven. I’ll go in the pool when it comes out of the oven. Vince is volunteering at the fair today from 2 to 10.
Katla – I’m glad you get to be with your husband. I was getting concerned just because you hadn’t mentioned him in a while.
Lanette – Loki was always an indoor cat and to this day he has no desire to go outside. Maybe if you got a kitten and from the get-go he wasn’t allowed outside, he wouldn’t go? I love the smell of sheets and blankets in the sun. Wish we could do that here. I do put the bedspreads, etc. on the porch, but it’s just not the same. Missing that “sunshine” smell
I clean the litterbox at least once/day. The downstairs one, since it doesn’t get used much, only twice a week.
Went in the pool earlier then walked around the neighborhood, had dinner then pulled some more weeds around the pool. Now getting ready for bed.

Heather - Thank you. That was beautiful.
Annie - I enjoy Sandra Brown and Nora Roberts. Birthright is a good book. I enjoy her settings quite a lot.
I’ve also read some Karen Robards, not as many as her. I like romance/mystery type books and books about character. I’ve enjoyed Kristin Hannah, but some of hers make me feel too much so I have to take them slowly.
Rita - you are doing so well.
Heather - how long ago did L’s husband pass? Was it two years now?
My Mom never changed anything after Dad passed except she did give his toes to my BF’s uncle, she knew he needed clothes badly.
Lanette - I didn’t know that about B-12, I’m going to start taking mine regularly.
Ginny - I like SUV’s for the same reason. DH’s truck has running boards or o would be in trouble.
Kim - that cat seems like too much to me.
Kylia - How old is your granddaughter. Is she Dyslexic by any chance?
Michele - I’m shocked your dollar store has a return policy. They all have no refunds or returns here.
I commend you for doing your floors on your hands and knees, I couldn’t handle that at all anymore. I have done it, but wouldn’t now.
Rebecca - we are so short of doctors now, that most people have no choice but to go to ER when it’s not an emergency.
Kylia - I was having headaches everyday for months, I was extremely unhappy, depressed, and having numerous bowel and stomach issues. I am doing so much better. I haven’t had a headache for probably 2 months now, still have some stomach and bowel issues when I think about work or know I have to deal with something regarding it. I know you are in a tough situation, but I think you would be better off in a new job too.
Our power usage isn’t the issue, it’s all of the distribution and administration fees that make it horrendous. Same with our gas.
Barbara - that must be a relief to have some of the roads opened up again.
Barbie - I need to make your “Never miss an opportunity to keep my mouth shut” one of my mottos.
Before DH and I were married I was dating a guy whose mother was from Hungary. She told the story of escaping in the middle of the night when she was 6 years old. There were a couple of Hungarian dishes she made that I really enjoyed. I don’t know what they were called though. She is my FB friend, but she’s not on much, I don’t know if she would remember what I liked or not.
Lisa - I just love your property.
Pip - congratulations on the sale.
I have had a pretty busy weekend so far. Kaitlyn is coming tomorrow and we are going to work on a gallery wall.
I walked in the living room tonight for 25 minutes because it is too smoky to be outside doing it.
I woke up this morning and the furnace was running, it was cool.

Lisa yup that’s Tumble. She’s a Daddy’s girl.
Barbie that “never miss an opportunity to keep my mouth shut” is a spiritual principal I need to adopt
Debbie Carquinez bridge closed from Thursday to Tuesday on the Labor Day holiday weekend? Must be some major repairs!
Kim that is one lucky cat, as are your neighbors. Karma points to you. And perhaps time to find alternative care for Levi?
Heather any plans for you to paint that night sky? Gorgeous!
Yesterday got the skeleton mix and winter white violas in the ground. Today planted lily of the valley that’s been sitting in the garage way too long. Fingers X’d. Also planted the little spring bulbs (crocus? hyacinth?) that showed up when I was clearing the space for the violas. Glorious, cool (65F) blue sky weather.

Rita - I also tested over 1200 a month ago- well over the threshold. Messaged Dr. Lisa if that was a potential problem, she never did respond. I took that to mean the rest of the lab tests were normal so nothing was out of whack, I was ingesting plenty.
I just went back and reviewed old labs. 5 years ago it was in the 1700's! Then a year later, 1400's. Ten years ago it was in the 300's. Go figure. I think when it was super high, I was taking a supplement.
DH's was in the 200's-300's, and the lab notes say under 400 people have an increased risk for dementia. Hmm... this might have been another factor for his memory loss.
Next time I see Dr. Lisa or Dr. Matt I'll ask more about it.

My vitamin/mineral levels have always been within a normal range, and that's even with taking supplements, with one exception. I don't take iron and my iron levels are usually borderline high.
I need B12 because my genetic mutation means I don't absorb it well.
M in Oz
Nexium can also cause a Vit B12 deficiency.
So when I was on Nexium, I didn't realise all the problems it causes, but if you read about B12 deficiency symptoms, that was me. I felt horrible. I also wasn't taking a B12 supplement then.
When I started doing some research, I discovered that both MTHFR and Nexium can result in a Vit B12 deficiency.
So I weaned off Nexium ( you can't just stop it suddenly) and started taking B12.
Much better!

Vit B12 DeficiencyVitamin B12 deficiency can be slow to develop, causing symptoms to appear gradually and intensify over time. It can also come on relatively quickly. Given the array of symptoms a vitamin B12 deficiency can cause, the condition can be overlooked or confused with something else. Vitamin B12deficiency symptoms may include:
strange sensations, numbness, or tingling in the hands, legs, or feet
difficulty walking (staggering, balance problems)
anemia
a swollen, inflamed tongue
difficulty thinking and reasoning (cognitive difficulties), or memory loss
weakness
fatigue

What are the symptoms of vitamin B deficiency?
People with vitamin B deficiency may experience:
fatigue, weakness or a general lack of energy
numbness or tingling in their hands and feet
weakened muscles and slow reflexes
‘shakiness’ when walking or difficulty keeping balance
More severe symptoms include confusion, a loss of memory, depression and dementia.
https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/vitamin-b-deficiency#symptoms
What are the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause physical, neurological and psychological symptoms. The symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can develop slowly and can get worse over time. Some people may have no symptoms despite having a low level of vitamin B12 in their bodies. People with vitamin B12 deficiency can have neurological symptoms and/or damage without anemia (lack of red blood cells).
General physical symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can include:
Feeling very tired or weak.
Experiencing nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Not feeling as hungry as usual.
Weight loss.
Having a sore mouth or tongue.
Having yellowish skin.
Neurological symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can include:
Numbness or tingling in your hands and feet.
Vision problems.
Having a hard time remembering things or getting confused easily.
Having a difficult time walking or speaking like you usually do.
If neurological problems develop from vitamin B12 deficiency, they may not be reversible.
Psychological symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can include:
Feeling depressed.
Feeling irritable.
Experiencing a change in the way you feel and behave.

Blue Zone ...
Had a quick look at the diet and had to smile.
"See that 95% of your food comes from a plant or a plant product.
Limit animal protein in your diet to no more than one small serving per day. Favor beans, greens, yams and sweet potatoes, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Whole grains are okay too. While people in four of the five blue zones consume meat, they do so sparingly, using it as a celebratory food, a small side, or a way to flavor dishes."
https://www.bluezones.com/2020/07/blue-zones-diet-food-secrets-of-the-worlds-longest-lived-people/
Way to go Blue Zone!!
In other words, Blue Zone people "lean toward being vegetarian" like I do and like I have for decades.
But I'm probably not quite 95% vegetarian ... some days I am, other days it might be more like 80%.

Machka - Thanks for the information on B12. After my gastric bypass, I began supplementing with B12 daily and have done so ever since, nearly 20 years. Due to the physical changes in my digestive system, there is less surface area for B12 absorption, and much less stomach acid to break down the B12 that I get from meat and dairy. I'm very careful to continue to skim along that upper limit, and try to make sure that all my vitamin levels stay steady.
Right now, I take a multi-vitamin, as well as separate supplements of B12, folate, potassium, zinc and iron, all prescribed or suggested by my doctor(s). About every two years, I ask to be tested--blood tests for some vitamin levels are quite expensive, and VA doctors never seem to remember to add them to the set of tests I have taken regularly, so I ask.
Unfortunately, my diet stinks on ice - all green veggies taste like green bitter dirt to me, and drowning them in butter or cheese to make them slightly palatable is self-defeating. Most people don't need to take vitamins at the level I'm taking, mine are due to issues with anemia (iron and b12), hypothyroid (zinc) and heart issues (folate and potassium), as well as the general malnutrition I've dealt with caused by the Crohn's disease. In other words, these are all very targeted supplements meant to help resolve specific problems.
Back to what we've said before, that every person is different. But anyone who is thinking about adding a supplement really ought to get a full blood panel that includes vitamin levels completed, and talk to their doctor about the results. Unfortunately, most people don't; they seem to assume that vitamins are completely benign and that they need all kinds of extra vitamins. In reality, most people get all they need from a balanced diet.
OK, back down off my soapbox... Thus endeth the vitamin commentary for today.
Love y'all,

Went for a run this morning, but I knew, even before I set off, that today probably wasn't the day. Had nothing to lose by giving it a try though!
Not happening. I decided to shuffle as far as the seafront café and then I just sat for a while and drank in the sound of the sea and the beautiful weather. A glorious early morning.
Called in at the deli on the way home for lunch stuff and lemons. Tandoori chicken tonight with fresh peas and broccoli. DH is at cricket, and the chicken reheats well.
Did a one minute tidy of the bureau. Much more to do. Threw out lots of mini soaps and packs from the bathroom basket. Will never, ever, use them. I'm enjoying this new, ruthless me! Threw out a top I used to like, but no longer makes me feel good. Hooray! Did laundry. Did 20 minutes rowing to make up for my short run.
Then made myself get to the laptop, and wrote a whole lot about listening to feedback and not ignoring all the cues, hints and tips that the universe gives us all the time. So, a very good morning.
The cleaner is coming this afternoon, so I won't have the house to myself, but I can retire upstairs when she's finished up there.
Looking forward to my very veggie lunch of falafel and hummus, with celery and carrot sticks.

Happy Labor day!
We made it to the cabin with no issues. DH only got "irritable" as we were finishing loading. The trip was good. Tried meeting up with daughter and grands as they were traveling up from a quick trip to Atlanta, but timing wasn't right. She took a picture of us passing on highway. We had the car loaded correctly and she hauled well. I handled hauling her up the cabin/mountain road with no issues. The biggest win......DH assisted me in backing the trailer into the driveway! There were no hurt feelings and I was successful! Yay! Last year we had a friend come up to cabin and do it for us. Unloaded truck, went to dinner, grocery, then back to cabin to unpack. Forgot a couple of things but will pick those up today. I need to sort charging cords when we get home, I realized. I have a drawer full at home but somehow brought all "c" chargers and only a couple of the old style. DH forgot his hair brushes(somehow that was my fault ¿). The coffee pot here is fine but has no timer and is too complicated for DH. So will pick up a new one so he can have coffee if he gets up before me. All in all a good start!
Tracey Yep, health wise a new job would probably be best but ......attitude change may be my only option. I must learn self care. That is something to work on this vacay.
Vitamins/iron- when I take most supplements my body doesn't absorb them and quits taking them from foods. For example (because it has been checked with bloodwork) if I take iron supplements I go anemic. I feel worse taking supplements. With Alzheimer's running in my family B12 sounds interesting, but worried taking it would cause other issues. More fruits and veggies.
Don't know why I can't share pics from phone or tablet....Will do so later from laptop.
September 1- find time for self care...my self care was decluttering desk- yes self care because it was causing me stress. Will continue to figure out self care.
September 2- Notice things you do well....I take care of people. I adapt pretty well even if kicking and screaming for a few.
September 3-Speak kindly to self- This is a challenge, but took several deep breathing moments and let myself know that I am capable if not perfect.
September 4- Fun activity....not sure what today will bring, but will find fun!
Some of these could be daily affirmations. May use them to journal.....
I treasure all of the support from this diverse group of ladies!
Stay safe today!
Make the best choices you can at the moment!
Work on self care!
Much love,
Kylia from Ohio but loving in TN for a few

Yes, agreed that each person is different and that it's a very good idea to get that full blood panel including vitamin and mineral levels. High or low vitamin or mineral levels can mess a person up!
For a while I took iron pills because I got the impression that all women of a certain age were anaemic or close to it. I did not feel well. So I stopped. But my periods were long and heavy, and sometimes twice a month, so doctors encouraged me to take iron. I did ... but I didn't feel well when I did. And repeat over years. Finally, I insisted on a blood test that included iron and we discovered my iron level is borderline high even with massive periods, no iron supplements, and hardly any red meat.
I also need certain things (B12, magnesium, and 5mg of folic acid each day) for my medical issues.
Oh and D because most Tasmanians are low in Vit D, especially office workers like me.I didn't know there was a vitamin blood work. I will have to ask.
I get it done now and then.

Here is the monthly list I use for you to copy if you’d like. Thank you Machka for posting the calendar. I always forget to post it in a format that works on here.
2023 Self-Care September 2023
1. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential.
2. Notice the things you do well, however small.
I'm spending quite a bit of time relaxing this weekend. Self-care.
And what do I do well? I don't know ... the usual household things like the laundry I've done this weekend, working on my drystream, cycling, colouring.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly.
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it.
I'm not usually overly critical of myself but I will question myself, like "What are you doing?"
And today, I went for a long-ish walk at lunch then did some colouring at home after work.6. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes.
7. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time.
8. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’..
9. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed.
10. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect.
11. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok.
12. Make time to do something you really enjoy.
13. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost.
14. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.
15. If you’re busy, allow yourself to pause and take a break.
16. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low.
17. Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly.
18. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
19. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.
20. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
21. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
22. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
23. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
24. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
25. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
26. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
27. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
28. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
29. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
30. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
31. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

Lisa-very good reminder we all need to check our own stuff before just taking things. I think it is a shame vitamin levels are not checked regularly. I ask for my Vitamin D and calcium every year or so because I discovered that my suppression therapy really messes with that. I function much better (due to thyroid) at a much higher level of Vitamin D (like 50-60). However-that may not work for others.
Kylia-if your doctor won't order some of the vitamin tests (or insurance pay for it), labs like Comupnet offer basic tests with no prescription. Cabin looks wonderful!
Heather-I was able to finish my walk goal but today was not a quick pace! However, I got a bit over 2 miles in in 45 minutes so that is what counts-tomorrow I could have a 19 pace. What is important is that you have exercised today!
Pleasant surprise that when I looked at emails today (after ignoring work for two days), two staff members who were working Saturday pulled some of the numbers we were looking for. City leaders are interested in impact of immigrants to our relatively small community-it is significant. It is causing a lot of tension-I am just presenting facts of what we see. People can be so hateful.
Off to tackle a couple of work items interspersed with some decluttering (when I mix it up I actually seem to get more done).
Take care all,

I consider myself fortunate to have been raised in a family of healthy, active aging people, and to have role models who are healthy and active and aging as well.
On my mother's side of the family, my great grandfather lived into his high 80s, my great grandmother living to high 90s. Both my grandfather and grandmother did the same. They were all active, although, granted, they did slow down toward the end. My grandfather developed dementia but the rest were fine right up to the end.
My parents are in their early 80s and still somewhat active. I think my father still gets on his bicycle now and then.
And I know of cyclists who are aging and still riding.
Even my husband ... he's a senior with a severe brain injury and all, which does increase his chance of developing dementia, but he's still out cycling and being active in the garden.
Exercise is one of the key things to prevent or deal with most of the issues on that list. Keep exercising!

Lisa - good article and I agree - I think much of the negative press about aging is to put $$ in someone's pocket.
Regarding Vit D and B12, it's wise to get blood levels tested on these and other vitamins and minerals (there are home tests people can get online, not sure how accurate they are.) Functional medicine docs and Naturopaths can order these tests. Not sure if they are covered by insurance, and they might be spendy.
And yes, we are all different. A supplement that works for me might throw someone else's system out of kilter.
I aim to keep my Vit D level above 60 ng/mL- research has shown it's protective at that level against some cancers and folks with levels above 50 had less trouble dealing with the C-19 symptoms and were rarely hospitalized.
A couple decades ago I tested low in B12, and have been taking supplementation ever since on the advice of my doctor, especially considering my mom's dementia. Mom was never tested to my knowledge and didn't take supplements, but my Grandmother took monthly B12 shots for years during the 1960's - I don't know why, for energy? But when she died of a stroke in her mid-90's she was sharp as a tack.

Tracey in Edmonton Wrote” Rita - you are doing so well.
Heather - how long ago did L’s husband pass? Was it two years now?
My Mom never changed anything after Dad passed except she did give his toes to my BF’s uncle, she knew he needed clothes badly.”
Thank you Tracey, but ‘she did give his toes to my BF’s uncle,’ had me spit coffee out and say whaaaat? LOL then finished the sentence and figured it out. 😂 😳

Machka I read the article link you posted about too much vitamin B12. I now know why my doc suggested I lower or stop the extra supplementation:
“There is also some evidence suggesting that high doses of B12 may lead to negative health outcomes in those with diabetes or kidney disease.
One 2010 study found that people with diabetic nephropathy (loss of kidney function due to diabetes) experienced a more rapid decline in kidney function when supplemented with high dose B vitamins, including 1 mg per day of B12 (7Trusted Source).
What’s more, the participants receiving the high dose B vitamins had a greater risk of heart attack, stroke, and death, compared to those receiving a placebo. However, more recent studies are needed to support this claim (7Trusted Source, 8Trusted Source).”
I am pre-diabetic and now have early kidney disease so will need to watch the B12 numbers more closely! Thanks for the article link!
