Running Partner A caught whatever is going around, congested, cough, fever. It went all through her house (husband and two teen boys), Fear that the flu vaccine did not match this year, so tells me to be as careful as I can. Really anxious, waiting for COVID vaccine to hurry up and come out. Many of my clients have been out sick as well.7 -

I ran 5 miles on our local trail this morning. Attended a local music festival and didn’t get home until midnight last night. Heading back to it shortly for another round.
@yirara – The slant on the road can definitely mess with your stride and cause injury.
@martaindale – Hope it stopped raining for at least the beginning of the race. Rain isn’t so bad once you have been running a while but starting in it (and waiting for a race to start) is hard.Don't you hate it when you have something on your mouth and no one tells you?

I was thinking the same thing. I imagine starting and running most of a hot dry race, it might actually be nice to have a very light rain toward the end of it.

Got out and did 10 miles this morning. Still waiting on the cold front. I kept running toward the thunder and lightning hoping to get rained on, but didn't get a drop. Maybe Monday.

Got back from the race a little while ago. My son came with me and we had chairs to sit in while we played percussion instruments and cheered the runners on. I did "a lot for me" of walking - my step count today is more than 3x what I've been averaging. 😬
I was disappointed because the one girl from run club who was signed up, had been told that another girl would be coming to walk it with her (fast walk with a little jogging, to do 10k within the 90 minute cutoff) - and yet the race started and I saw her go by, at the end and alone. I still don't get what happened with the other girl; she just didn't show up. At the 5k turnaround, my friend was still at the end as expected, but there were 2 other ladies with her. Meanwhile another guy from the club had already finished the 10k and was under 40 minutes for a PR. But I was waiting at my cheering spot until the very end, even though everyone around me was leaving. But when I saw the final car off in the distance, my friend was again all alone, right in front of it. I told my son to quickly pack up the chairs and instruments back into my bag, we were going to walk her in to the finish line - maybe 1/2 a kilometer away. This involved a fast march and some jogging, with a full backpack, a tambourine in one hand and long-covid dizziness setting in at the end. (Don't worry, I went off to the side at the very end and didn't go through the finish line.) But I think it was worth it to encourage her for that last little bit. So I came straight home, grabbed some snacks and went to lay down with my "moon boots" (pressure therapy). Hydrating, doing all the things and hoping for some good sleep and to wake up feeling fine.10 -

The race was really well organized, better than many races I have done that were a lot larger. You can tell the community puts a lot of effort into the entire weekend. The course winds through rural Pennsylvania Amish countryside along two lane country roads. There are corn fields, rolling hills, and lots of community volunteers manning water stations.
Afterwards there was a community picnic with BBQ chicken, brats/hot dogs with fixins, and homemade desserts. The best post-race meal I've ever had.
After eating, I went back to the hotel, took a shower, made a food run for later, and I'm chilling out watching movies for the rest of the day.
Race report under the spoilerBird-in-hand HM sort of race report. It was raining when I woke up. I waited until about 30 minutes before the start to head over because I stayed at the hotel across the street. By then, the rain stopped. It was warmer than I would have liked, but slightly cooler than it has been back home. It was about 69F at the start and probably close to 80F by the time I finished.
We started at 7:30 sharp. As usual, people went out too fast. I positioned myself just ahead of the 2:20 pacer figuring that's probably where I would end up. I got passed by what felt like half of the field in those first few miles including quite a few people who were already huffing and puffing. The middle miles of the race were pretty hilly. Though there were only a couple that were very steep, there were very few sections of the course that were truly flat. I tried to moderate my effort up the hills then relax and let gravity do the work on the way down. I walked the aid stations, making sure to drink plenty of water and dump some on my head. I took salt tabs regularly. I could tell they were helping because a couple of times I got a little nauseated and within a couple of minutes of taking one, I felt totally fine.
By mile 8 or so, people were fading. I started passing up folks who flew past me in the first few miles. I felt strong as I finished, even had a little in the tank to turn it up the last half mile or so.
I finished in 2:20:16, just ahead of the 2:20 pacer. A long way from my PR but about where I expected to be at this point in the year given the conditions. In fact, I'm pretty happy with how it went and hopeful that the base I built over the summer will reward me with some speed when I start training for my A race.8 -

I ran 2 miles this morning. I ran to the cemetery and ran around in there a bit. I saw another runner and a woman stretching. The cemetery is really a nice place to run. There are paved roads and rarely any cars. It is an old cemetery too and there are lots of interesting headstones from the 1800's. But that was the first time I have seen another runner in there. When I do run on the roads, I always run facing traffic. I think that is the legal way to run or walk. Plus it is safer. I live in a small town with a population of around 5000 so we don't have much traffic. It was still hot, but not too bad for a short run. Still looking forward to the cold front next week.
That was so nice of you to finish the race with your friend @polskagirl01. I bet that really meant a lot to her.

My day didn't turn out as expected. Mom and I went over to a neighbor's yard sale today. I expected to only stay about an hour, but we wound up staying 4 hours, visiting with them and talking with the people who stopped by. It was fun, just not what I had planned on doing.
I was tired when I got home, so laid down on the couch for a nap. Once I got up, I had to force myself to go down for my scheduled workout on the treadmill. I really wasn't feeling it and had to tell myself if I did one mile, I was good.
The schedule called for an easy pace 6 mile run. I figure as long as I traverse the mileage, I'm doing good. I walked a mile total for warm up and cool down. Then, I did a run/walk of 5 miles total. I did 3 x (4/1 min at 4.2/3.8 mph), 3 x (4/1 min at 4.5/3.8 mph), then 6 x (2/3 mph at 3.8/4.5 mph), 2 x (2/3 min at 3.8/4.2 mph) and finished at 4.2 mph...at least I think that is what I did. Close enough. It really didn't feel too bad, but my legs were getting tired. I was glad I did it once I finished.7 -

@kgirlhart Thanks, I guess. Sometimes you just gotta do what needs to be done when the weather is right and you have time. LOL Great running. I think foxes are pretty. Hope it cools down for you next week. We had a storm come through earlier and it is now 68F...muggy, but cool.

Nice run @kgirlhart . I never really thought of running in a cemetery before, but we have one in the county that has paved road and would probably be a great place to run as long as a funeral wasn't being held.

Not sure I would be so keen to run on my birthday, I would spill my beer. Yesterday I ran the parkrun with a gentleman celebrating his 83rd birthday, and yes, he was running at the same pace as me.

Very dull on my side, following the plan. I guess that is good. My daughter has come home for the weekend so that is eating out and ice cream added to the agenda. Going on a small boat next week so the plan might need to be improvised, unless paddling counts. Everywhere is still hot though I am not going to complain as it is better than the rain. Hope every one is have a good September so far.

I am sticking to my watch’s taper for the marathon plan as best I can till next Sunday. Today it wanted me to do some sprinting, so I did (or tried to at least) and ended up running 9.5km. It’s really quite hot here again so we spent the afternoon at the very full but still fun pool, giving the summer one last hurrah. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday

My sleep has been off and I can feel it in my energy...time to tighten that part up.
