WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR NOVEMBER 2023

I decided to take a serious look at my time over a week, to figure out why I so feel like I have so little me time – and this list explains it, because I forgot to add grocery shopping, any other errands, catching up with you…. I’m putting it in a spoiler because otherwise this is to darn long.7 days = 168 hours
Sleep 8 hours a day + Getting ready for bed (pj, teeth, taking levi out) 30 minutes a day + getting ready for the day (clothes, teeth, taking levi out) 30 minutes a day = 9hours a day x 7 = 63 hours a week
Meals, prep + eating+ clean up for me and Levi = 2 hours a day x 7 = 14 hours a week
Swim (change pack clothes, drive, swim, shower, change, drive home) 3 hours a day x2 days a week = 6 hours a week
Counseling (drive, appointment, drive) = 2 hours a week
Walk Levi every morning 1.5 hours a day x 6 = 9 hours a week
Work 10 hours 5 days a week and 6.5 hours 2 days a week = 63 hours a week
Care/visit/driving mom around 5 hours a week
Clean house and do laundry 3 hours a week
Pay bills, deal with the “business” of 2 households 2 hours a week
Committed hours a week = 167
Leaves me with 1 hour a week to do something with a friend, write personal emails, phone calls, read, play with the dog….. Which suddenly explains why I am constantly behind on something!!!!
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California
You work a lot of hours!! Is there anything you can adjust in that regard?
At least you're getting regular exercise! "Walk Levi every morning 1.5 hours a day x 6 = 9 hours a week"

Heather - I had twisted and sprained ankles regularly when I was young and pretty much all of the pains I’ve had in my life are posture related, so I can empathize. I don’t know what it feels like not to be in pain somewhere, I also understand the jealousy.
Allie - are they able to tell you how this keeps happening to you with your credit card?
Inappropriate behaviour is quite common I think.
Vicki - Sounds like a nice weekend for you.
Carol - I am hoping to sell them at a craft show. Prayers for you, your husband and BIL.
Machka - I’m so happy for you. It sounds like all of your hard work paid off.
Kylia - I would be all for longer hours to have weekends off. I would not. Be happy with only one day a week off.
One of the things I am still angry about with not being able to continue at the manor is that they had an incredible time off and benefit package.
I was hoping to retire from there.
Lanette - what I have posted pictures of so far was all scrap wood that DH had in his stash. Yesterday though I spent 4 hours in the shop cutting on the band saw and sanding. I have the first coat of base paint on the pieces today.
Joy - the fog has been crazy! DH took almost 45 minutes for his usual 20 minute drive the other night.
Sounds like you grandson has found his niche.
Lisa - That is a big time difference. I struggle with the 3 hour difference with my family sometimes.
I can’t wait to see your clock repurposed.
Annie - I hope you did go with your Dad. He needs some help it seems.
Rebecca - I need to try you nose to toes hydration for your skin. I get so dry, in the winter especially.
Debbie - love the clock and the deals. Those embossing boards were a phenomenal price.
Kim - that is exhausting. I hope you can find a way to find some me time.
I went and helped my friend a little bit this afternoon, base painted my projects I cut yesterday this morning, and finished another stocking front tonight. One more stocking front to go hopefully I’ll get it done next week.
I am a huge Dolly Parton fan, there was an interview tonight with Robin Roberts called Rhinestones to Rock n Roll. She has a new book coming out that tells her story in her clothes and costumes. She also has her new rock album and is working on her story being done on Broadway in January 2025. She has written most of the music for it and chose the ones she didn’t write. I think that her staying so busy keeps her healthy. She is 77.

With all the time changes both in Australia and North America, I had to check how far apart my parents are from me ...
It's 4:45 pm on Wednesday 8 November here ... it's 9:45 pm on Tuesday 7 November in Vancouver.
So Hobart is 19 hours ahead of Vancouver.

Quite proud of myself this morning for altering my plans for the reunion.
The day is wet and very windy. I really didn't fancy trailing my case around the harbour in a gale, trying to find my school friends for a sandwich lunch. Even if they let me in with a case, as there is a bag search.
So I decided to delay my departure and just go straight to the hotel. I will get there just before check in time. I've booked a taxi to the station, and will get one at the other end.
Texted G to tell her.
It really is ghastly out there.
There have been a few issues with fallen trees and signalling, so I'm keeping an eye open for delays.
Would very much rather stay at home in the warm and dry, but I have an obligation, especially to B, who has travelled from Scotland. I'm sure it will all be fine in the end.
Early lunch is calling!

Good morning ladies!
Yes I did take my Dad to his doctor appointment. The check-in requires a smart phone to scan a QR code, and that would have been a problem. And then we went straight to see mom. Long day.
Today is Mom's birthday, so it's time to make her cake. It's her favorite chocolate cake recipe with a bit of oil in it for moisture. And no milk.
Machka glad you had a great trip. Your husband is lucky to have you to plan for his needs.
Have a great day ladies!

3 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients

My parents used to make that cake for me for my birthdays.
I think it was one of the first cakes I learned to make.

Good Wednesday,
Machka Once again your organizational skills and attention to detail went a long way. I really feel your joy and peace coming off the pages.
Carol Prayers. Alzheimer's runs in my mother's family. My grandmother and 6 of her sisters all had it. The 7th died of throat cancer around age 60. My Aunt has been in a memory care unit for 3 years. My mother still lives on her own, but probably shouldn't. She has disowned all her children again (like the 5th or 6th time) . I send texts for holidays and a Christmas card, but that is all the contact I have. The really sad part is she has 8 great grandchildren she has never met due to her personal issues.
Debbie I once found that style of clock that I loved, but DH said no at the time. We weren't yet married, and I couldn't afford it. I have looked for over 15 yrs for another, but have yet to find it, I am happy for you to have found such bargains.
Two days over 10k steps and over 7 hrs sleep! Today will be a struggle for steps due to 7 hours in truck, ugh. Have 3k so far.
I am struggling this morning. Thanksgiving is my holiday. I am struggling as my youngest daughter who lives in town told me last night that they won't be joining us this year. For whatever reason, she says she has panic attacks every time her sister or kids are involved in something. As an adult it is her right to say no. As a Mom, I am sad that she can't put aside whatever for a few hours. I am proud that she told me the why. I understand protecting self mental health. I am confused by the issues my girls have with each other. 20 years ago it was oldest jealous of youngest. Now it is reversed. I guess I am feeling hurt, confused, and disappointed. My anxiety due to her decision last night made it hard to concentrate so was in bed at 915. My mind knows that it is okay. If she didn't live down the street I would be disappointed but not upset. It will be okay. I just need to calm myself. I raised successful and independent daughter's.
Gotta get going,
Kylia heading north into cold and rain which is better than cold and snow!

Okay cake is in the oven. The recipe is very similar to yours Machka! I'm afraid I might have added too much water as I was talking while cooking. We shall see.
My mom's present is wrapped. It's a gorgeous light grey blue aran zip front sweater. She will likely put it away and never wear it ( it's too nice to wear!) But then someday I will inherit it. So either way, she has a nice present to open. And there are cards for her.
And miracle of miracles, my dad cleaned up his stuff when told! He went off to the library.
So we are pretty much caught up. Yay!

Good morning, my dears, from the second summer of the Arkansas River Valley,
Supposed to get up to the mid-80s once more today (30C), and by tomorrow be about 20 degrees cooler. The weather critters say the rain will begin at noon tomorrow, as well.
Kylia - I'm sorry your daughters don't get along, but pleased that your youngest trusts you enough to tell you the truth, that she doesn't choose to be in a room with her sister. If it helps at all, I truly hated being around my sister until I was in my mid-30s. She kept trying to run over me with the religion truck, and had four kids, while I was irreligious and infertile. Eventually, she stopped trying to save me and I stopped trying to feel superior, and we found we had our mother in common, whom we both loved to distraction. Your daughters do have their love for you in common, and that may well override their own needs in their own time.
Kim - Thanks for that suggestion, and the confidence that I'll figure it out. I tried two possible designs yesterday and wasn't happy with either one. Still haven't figured out how I made peacock feathers look like teeth... Still thinking. Your week schedule was staggeringly full... but I'm looking at it now from my retired perspective, and my schedule is almost exactly opposite! I usually only have an hour or two a week that is committed to anything, rather than only having one free. No suggestions for you... I lived a lot of overscheduled years of my life, and while it won't kill you, it does leave you with an overwhelming fatigue most of the time. Oh - and the time change will just help keep my call schedule a little less overwhelming. More than once I've literally said goodbye to either my husband, my daughter or my best friend because the next one of them is calling. This should space them out a bit! I'm beginning to be able to occasionally stop myself from picking up a call if it's not convenient for me at that moment, but that's incredibly hard for some reason.
Sue - I'm sorry there was so much inflammation and hope the methotrexate helps. I'm finding more and more that my body will accept any changes better if I start small and add very small increments, whether it's exercising or adding a new food or new habit. Starting at two minutes of walking seems like a really good way to begin.
Heather - Hope you enjoy the reunion!
Annie - Many happy birthday wishes to your mom...
Hope it is or was a good Wednesday for all,
Love from Arkansas,
Lisa

Kylia as a child we had grand Thanksgiving dinner often with twenty people or more. I remember eating around the ping pong table. It's difficult for me to let go of that tradition, but everything changes. Both of my brothers died, and I'm divorced, and my sister's family is in Tennessee. So it might just be me and my parents, unless my local cousins invite us, and they already have eleven adults and a passel of little ones. It's difficult to change holiday traditions but it's wishful thinking to believe they will never change. And the new way might be a happier way. Sorry for your family trouble.
Can you tell I had some extra caffeine today? I do prattle on some days. Thank you for understanding!

Karen ... the memorial video is lovely ...
Carol ... so sorry to hear your BIL is failing. As others have said, he is blessed to have you and your husband in his life.
Annie ... I hope your mom is able to enjoy her special day. Taking care of elderly parents is not a task for the fainthearted. You are doing a great job! The Depression Era cake is one I used to make for my son who had egg allergies ... no one every believed me that it was vinegar and soda that worked as the rising agents. It's still our favorite chocolate cake.
Kylia ... when my husband and I were younger we used to take drives in the country and admire properties that had yards like yours. Never managed to purchase anything with that much acreage and as we've aged, often comment that we're glad we don't have that much to mow! Our one acre is enough!
Tracey ... I loved your craft idea for using sheet music and making it look vintage! But mod-lodge has me worried. I also love your current craft projects. I know a woman who makes similar things and she had a "Show" on Facebook this past weekend. (She has a Facebook presence for her crafting.) Every 15 minutes she posted photos of things she had made with prices (they were all snowman related) and people commented under the post if they wanted something. For the most part people were expected to pick things up from her home which eliminated the need to ship and she didn't have a "table fee" at a show. She sold out of every item within minutes. Is that something you could do where you live?
Machka ... I am so very happy that you and your husband were finally able to travel!
So my husband and I are on the clean-up phase of our project now. We are getting there but have left-over partial boxes of both siding and soffit. I've posted on our local buy nothing site (not able to return to retailers) and even had some interest, but it's still here. Calling Habitat for Humanity today but fear it's going to have to be cut up and thrown out and that seems so very wasteful to me.
I've been getting back on track with my restricted eating, the scale is finally moving again and my appetite is getting back to normal. I need to keep at it.

I need a boot in the behind as I’ve been giving in to my sugar urges/addiction since that first fling with Tootsie Rolls the beginning of October. Not feeling well b/c of the MCC doesn’t help either. I know food won’t help. My mind knows better, but somehow, my hand doesn’t listen! I’ve gained 2 pounds Oct/Nov and am exactly where I was in January! My fight has kept me stable but not what I need/want. I need to lose at least 20 pounds (30 sky hope) for health reasons. At least I’ve not gained over the year. That is something.
So I got a big bag of popcorn at Sam’s for would you believe, 50 cents? It’s a 16 OZ bag of Smartfood. Yesterday, I took sandwich bags and measured out the entire bag in one serving sandwich bags. I can regulate better that way. I do have a portable food scale and used that to get the bags about the same size. I need to stay away from Sonic Blasts, and Dunkin Donuts and the candy aisle! So keep me in check by reminding me! LOL. I will try to post how good I did each day.
Yesterday was not good for sugar. I don’t want to admit b/c it is a little embarrassing: Sonic medium Blast, Sonic sugar free lemonade, Sam’s turnovers-2, and some popcorn while measuring out the servings. None of which is good for me, but sure tastes good!
I had an appointment with my therapist Monday. The office had moved across town! I was at the old office on time but when I found the place empty, I tried calling 3 times before I got someone. They gave me the new address, and I complained b/c no one informed me of the move. By the time I got to the new office, I was 15 minutes late. They made me re-schedule. Now I’m debating whether to cancel or go to the re-scheduled appointment at the end of the month. I may go and cancel in January. IDK, confused right now.
