Debbie-I know you would prefer your mom not have the roommate, but it's probably better for her to have the company. Sorry about Jack too.
Tina in CA
That is what mom said too. Joanne isnt much company but better than nothing.
I will be up there three times in Dec.
She was happy to hear that.
The first weekend will be our candy making weekend which I can spend up to 5 days(if I skip class that week). I don't think I will stay the whole time but at least 3-4 days for sure.
The second will be just a day trip but will pick her up and spend the day with my aunt and some cousins which mom will enjoy
The third is Christmas. Not sure how that will work- most likely I will go up a day or two early, beings it is on a Monday and dh and son will come up just on Christmas day for a few hours then we will all drive back to have Christmas at our house that night, after going over to MIL's. Son's girlfriend will be with us. Mom loves having everyone there. MIL is the opposite- Rovin, son's girlfriend is not allowed at MIL's house. That is hard. We have to drop her off at our house while we go spend an hour at MIL's house, listening to her complain. Christmas spirit is ruined each year because of her and dh- such bitter people. I look forward to time with just my mom having a nice Christmas eve meal.5 -
My success with the burnt saucepan encouraged my son to try the method on his non stick frying pan while I was there.
It got it wonderfully clean, but not non stick. I have googled some ideas, but I do think once it's gone it's gone.
We talked about Christmas as DDIL wasn't there. As I thought, the other grandparents are there. I offered to have the kids for Christmas Eve lunch and early afternoon. Just need the ok from DDIL. He seemed a bit disappointed that I wasn't planning to host the adults!!!
No adult presents.
I offered to have Edie for Art on this Saturday afternoon.
DH is getting a taxi to the cross country site tomorrow. He will come back by bus. Edie was happy and kept telling him not to be late!
All working out. Must do my tax and then I will be happier.

Like an outdoor sweater?
I like cotton or stretchy jersey knit cardigans. Fairly lightweight. No buttons or zips or maybe just one or two buttons. I'm wearing a navy cotton cardigan with no buttons to work today. It's one of my favourites.
I also like polyester-elastomer running/exercise jackets. Thin, with zips and hoods.
Nothing heavy or textured.

CarolGaGal wrote: »Lisa ~ I was wondering! Will you have a door into the house from your sunroom? Egg looks quite at ease up on that ladder.
Rosemarie ~ Enjoy your beach weekend and don't worry about the wreaths. We all have to let go of some traditions as we get older. My mom left her Christmas tree up all year as she got older. I am using the same wreaths on the outside of my front door that were made by my mother-in-law so they are probably 30 yrs old.
Heather ~ Your brother is a handsome man just as you are a lovely lady! Must be good genes!
Pip ~ Lucy looks very comfortable on the bed.
Vicki ~ So glad your new system is making work a bit easier. Being boxed in with repairs is probably very aggravating.
Debbie ~ Really wish your mom had the courage to evict her housemate. But, I can see why having someone there makes it less lonely although from what you say, the housemate is not much company.
I don't send Christmas cards but I may be sending some ecards to family and a few friends.
Know that so many of you are raking leaves, but, I wanted all the maple leaves to stay on the ground in my backyard as there is really no grass underneath (just bare dirt for the most part). I asked my lawn guy to tell his people not to mulch the leaves and they did anyway this morning. Now I get to look at what to me is an ugly mess.

Rare treat for her. She doesn’t jump up, I have to carry her and put her on the bed3 -
On sweaters - I love a good cashmere cardigan in bright red or black. Very thin so great for layering. When we do NYC at Christmas I can take one cashmere cardigan and wear it every day with a different tshirt/cotton shirt under it. I only have a couple. They are expensive but worth it to me.

Leezy: It is called ...Trekking The National Parks. When I bought it they also had a promo to buy a game that had Trivia about the National Parks. I thought I would see if they liked this one first. It is on Amazon. I bought it from Underdog Games who are the founders of the game.2

Barbara: It’s 8 ball pool, not swimming, although she did som swimming in the pool at the hotel when not playing. We had a job finding her a suitcase big enough to take her cue case. The cue comes apart in the middle. She has her own pool table in her garage, so gets lots of practice.
I adore Christmas, but think it has been over stretched. We always decorated our tree on Christmas Eve when I was a child, and it came down on Twelfth Night (6Jan). Continued that tradition with my grandchildren, who always came to us on Christmas Eve, right up until Covid interfered.
We used to go out after dinner on Christmas Eve to see the neighbourhood lights and trees.Anniesquats100 wrote: »Ladies, here is another survey question - what is your favorite sweater like? Zip or button or pullover, hoodie or v neck, cotton or wool or synthetic? Solid or pattern?

Allie, what a sweet pic of Miles and his friend!
Got the last of my Christmas shopping in the mail today. Another beautiful day. Looks like next week we may be facing a bit of a cool down but still no snow in the forecast.

Thank you for the info, definitely will look into it.

favorite sweater: cotton, pull-over, v-neck, for slightly more dressy occasions. I do like the looks of Barbie's red sweater. I would wear that on a really cold day. It would be a little hot for most of our mild winter days.
for everyday - a nice over-sized sweatshirt, no hood, preferably one that covers my bottom to wear with work-out leggings. My newest impulse buy came from Costco and has a collar and buttons, still over-sized and tunic length. I'm using it to replace the collared one I bought last year that has a zipper. I finally admitted that it was uncomfortable, which was why I wore it so seldom.

Carol - I've been thinking about your BIL situation. Did he get placed into the memory care unit? So glad he's under your DH's supervision and not left on his own somewhere. I worry a bit there are seniors who really need help but somehow stay under the radar.
I think I found a shirt/jacket (they call them Shackets) - so far no luck with sweaters - at Tractor Supply. Where else? Sherpa fleece! Hope they have them in stock when I go in there later this week.
Had a nice sunny afternoon, got my little leaf blower out and blew leaves off the sidewalk and road. Just about finished with all the leaf moving jobs here.

In everything I wear, I choose comfort over style. I need to be warm and able to walk, sit, bend over easily.2

I ordered a pair of pants off eBay. I can’t seem to find any gray pants (a light shade). I really like the Bandolino ones, but I can’t find them in gray. Hope these fit. Well, if not I’ve only lost $16. Do you know the pants were $8 and the shipping was $8? I can’t believe the cost of the shipping. Vince said that my air fryer lid for Jess for Christmas should be here today
Lynette told me the other day that she has cancer. It really sounds like more precancerous. Anyway, she had a hysterectomy last Mon so I called her to ask how she was. Said she needs radiation, I’m thinking it’s more to be sure the doc got it all. She’s trying to get in touch with the doc so right now she doesn’t know how long she’ll need the radiation. I probably should make a casserole but I don’t know how to get it to her. See, yes, I can drop it off at her house. But I know that she doesn’t like people coming to her house mainly because she’s not a very good housekeeper. Ken really got on her case a few years ago to have us over. In the 15 years we’ve known them, I’ve only been to her house once. Ken is retired so it’s not like I can take it to his business for him to take home.
Heather – the air fryer lid for the IP for Jess just came today. I didn’t like the box so I put hers in my box and I’ll keep the other one. I really love mine.
Barbara – Oh, trust me, I AM enjoying TSO. We go to see them in concert this weekend. We’ll meet Jess and Colby for dinner then go to the concert
Terri – congrats to your youngest D
Had senior bowling then went for a walk around the neighborhood. It really is 2 miles, which is what I thought
Ginny – Usually I listen to SiriusSX while I’m taking my walk and sometimes during dinner. Last year they had a really good Halloween station, but they didn’t have it this year
I don’t seem to be having any luck finding a bowling themed decal for a ceramic dish so I might have to change to some sort of Christmas tree decal Update: the gal poured me a dish and is going to give me a decal that says "baked with love". I'd rather give her something she can use all year long that something that has a Christmas theme
I don’t know what it is, lately I haven’t been able to reach 10,000 steps, usually 7,8 or 9,000. I still walk about 2 miles/day
Well, I changed my silver and fit from the gym I go to now to the Y. I really miss the water aerobics and the gym I go to now, while very clean, doesn’t have a pool. Since they remodeled, I think the Y is cleaner, they have the cardio equipment I use, plus they have a pool. I’m thinking that if I transfer the Silver & Fit to FL for the month, even tho we don’t go down until mid Feb and it takes effect the first of Feb, I’m quite certain that Gina will let me use the Y. I’ll just check with her, but I suspect it’ll be OK
Tues here: Did Jerry ever smell! I swear, if he doesn’t take a shower today, all I can say is “thank goodness I’m not working tomorrow”
Debbie – I’m so sorry to hear about the cat. I know you loved it
Heather – good luck to Edie. Thanks for telling about the baking soda and how well it worked. I’m always on the lookout for a hint like that
Jess is having Thanksgiving. I told her I’d make a pumpkin pie (which only Colby and I will eat), kafli (like a pasta dish), she wants a chocolate pudding pie, and a sweet potato casserole (that only Colby and I will eat)
Really, it depends on what I need to wear as far as a sweater goes. I only don’t like turtlenecks, a v-neck is fine. Sometimes I need a cardigan, I’ll wear a pullover with pants when I need to wear a sweater. Don’t care for a hoodie
barbie – great sweater. I don’t think I could do something as nice
Told them at BK that since I won’t be there Fri and Sat of next week, I am flexible and if they want me to come in Wed. I can do that. If they want me Sun, Tues, I can do that. I’m flexible. They’ll let me know what the schedule will be
The plan for tomorrow is to do the stairstepper. Then I’ll take my walk then go to the MD for my annual “you’re still alive” visit then Aldi. The topsoil is being delivered tomorrow. Once before when we had some riverrock delivered Vince drew a circle with this spray paint where he wanted the guy to put the rock. He was very appreciative so I told Vince that he should do that again. He will tomorrow before the guy comes. Then tomorrow he’ll go up and rent the skidsteer.

Not sure why I couldn't add this but
I went to ceramics tonight, finished the black on my skateboard turtle. Next week just have to do the touchup and clear glaze the white of the eye (because I'm too lazy to paint it). Then it'll be fired.
The gal said she'd help me with this bubble pattern for the plate. Should be interesting. She said it's easy to do (works for me...lol) I think others will be interested to see how it's done, too.

Hi Gals,
Barbara – coastie - I don’t know if you have one, but a turkey on the BBQ is a wonderful option if the oven is not working… I have a Webber kettle BBQ and when I do a turkey I do it on that with great results.
Laughingdakini1- sorry to hear of the loss of your cat. Fur babies are such a big part of our families.
michele - I googled bowling decal and a bunch came up - not sure if you want one that's vinyl or an iron on one.... but there are both.
Lisa beautiful sunset.
Allie – congrats on the car and the pictures of Miles are as always adorable!
Machka – sounds like you did a great planning job of your vacation, and that it worked for DH, did he enjoy traveling again?
Heather – Nice to hear of all your times with friends
So I have cooked for my friend and her family for 5 weeks and there had been small hints, they have decided not to have me continue to do it. They really wanted a meal they could just heat up – so I had done more casserole style (the 5 entrees were – Meatloaf, chicken enchiladas, pumpkin/mushroom lasagna, Many bean soup, shrimp on cheesy grits). Come to discover the DH wanted steak, roast beef, chops… all which needed to be cooked at the time of serving, not cooked and warmed up hours later. It has been a good experience for me. A little extra cash and I made items that were 5-6 servings so they got 3 big servings and I got the remaining which means that Monday, Tuesday and sometimes Thursday I had what they had on Monday. I had planned ahead-watching sales and making choices when I got a chance to get something from a garden. So I have chicken in the freezer – some of it breasts pounded flat for stuffing, and enough tomato/roasted red pepper soup to have given them twice. And I was doing 6 cookies for them – fresh baked so I have frozen dough in individual cookie scoops in 3 different flavors. And salmon filets, and frozen ravioli - so I am in good shape for a few weeks or more. I also like the idea of doing a bit more cooking on one day - I think I will ask for a 8x8 pan for Christmas as I have one, but doing a lasagna (or whatever else I would normally make in a 9x13)in 2 8x8 and freezing one would be nice
.
I am continuing to work on ways to be more efficient and this cooking option might be a good one. I love the act of cooking and creating, but to do it once or twice a week and use frozen for the other meals might be a good compromise.
I agree with everyone that multi-tasking doesn’t really save any time at all, but I am convinced that limiting interruptions and “layering” does. So what I am calling layering is planning my day so I can have time when 2 things are going at the same time. For example there is an embroidery that will take 40-60 minutes running right now, while I write this. So I planned my day so the embroidery was set up and started while I caught up with you all. Layering a long running priority thing first with something that can be interrupted (this note) if needed. Every change is good but learning new habits is sometimes a challenge.
Love ya all,

Regarding sweaters = pullovers for wearing inside ...
I am planning to get rid of most of mine. I have stacks I brought from Canada and a few I got here and I haven't touched them in years. They are all there, staring at me when I open my closet, but an ice age would have to move in and drop the average winter temp by 50 degrees Celsius before I would consider them.
My husband has suggested keeping them in case I feel cold one day but by the time that happens, "they" will have designed a whole new fabric and invented new colours!
I am beginning to think I will never feel cool again. I have felt hot and my skin has been sensitive for almost 8 years.
So in the winter, on really cool days here, I move into a cotton top with elbow length sleeves or longish short sleeves. And bring a light cardigan just in case.
I can't even wear my long sleeve cotton tops (pullover or button up) because Eve they are too hot. But I will keep them for now.

Today’s gratitude: free notary public at the county library.
Had to be out of the house early Monday (bloodwork) and Tuesday (casserole-a-thon) meant only 1 set PT each day. Likely same tomorrow (dogs for nail trims, then to county library for public notary). ;{ Oh well, one set is way better than none.

Welcome @Leezy55 Leezy in the SF Bay Area. Have many happy memories of my decades living in the East Bay and working in the City.
Debbie prioritizing one on one time with your mom over getting things done (blackberries, candy making, whatever) makes sense to me. ((hugs)) So glad you have her as the antidote to your MIL.
Terri Mama used to drive me around after Christmas Eve services to look at the Christmas lights. One year as we stopped near the park, we saw a herd of deer grazing on the green. I could almost imagine them being reindeer, taking a break from pulling Santa’s sleigh.
Michele, I’d text Lynette that I was dropping off some food but couldn’t come in. To me a casserole is just a big warm hug. Glad you’re getting to see TSO again this year and back to the Y for water aerobics. Good luck at the MD.
Kim thanks for the BBQ turkey suggestion. Bet yours come out with a great smoke flavor. Well done on the planning and layering. I’m with you about multi-tasking. IMHO it was a marketing ploy by M$oft as “time slice” didn’t have the same ring. . .

I find myself longing to feel cool or even cold. I used to feel cool and cold. I used to feel really cold sometimes. But not for a long time.
I'm just comfortable right now in a very short-sleeved cotton T-shirt and knee-length pyjamas. The house is about 17C (63F), this evening. About an hour ago, I was debating about turning on the air conditioning because it was about 19C (66F) and too hot.
Anything over 18C is too hot, unless I'm outside where there's enough of a breeze to keep me cool.

Sweaters - I can't wear anything with any wool in it. Our house is fairly warm, though we don't have the heating on all day. I wear a long camisole top in a bright colour, with a thin acrylic sweater over the top in a toning colour. This is my 'uniform' for much of the year. With black leggings. Indoors, I wear a long, black, acrylic cardigan on top, I have a couple, and one thicker grey one for very cold weather, and, outside, I wear a black, down, padded long jacket. I keep a very minimal wardrobe.
I don't possess a thick sweater, or sweatshirt, or hoodie. I prefer layers. My feet are my coldest part. I have furry slipper boots for the winter. I can't wear turtle necks, or even high crews, there has to be a bit of a gap below my neck. I only wear a silk scarf when it's freezing. Hate things around my neck.
I'm thinking of buying a new thin acrylic sweater and throwing one out. One in, one out.
I did my Waitrose order today and put in a turkey crown and pigs in blankets (for Christmas). If it's just us, we don't normally do Christmas Dinner, but this year I just fancied it. I asked John if he would cook it, and he said yes. Hooray! I have lost interest in cooking at the moment.
We will have our usual lunch of blinis and faux caviar, with iberico ham. In fact, we will have that next Monday for our 19th wedding anniversary! John is cooking in the evening, one of his signature dishes. Probably fish pie, or Lancashire hotpot.
He will be off at 12.30, in the taxi, to watch Edie run the cross country for her school. I will make him a ciabatta sandwich for 12 o'clock. Gorgeous weather, but chilly.
She told us yesterday, that she is planning to be one of the intrepid swimmers on Christmas Day on the beach. We always go down there to meet the family, the other grandparents, and watch the fun, in our Santa hats. She said that mummy said she was not to go in if the sea was rough.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Good Wednesday,
Sweaters- I have a longish lightweight no fastener cardigan that I wear year round as needed. It is always in the vehicle with me. I love oversize hoodies for at home. I like soft with shape otherwise. I have 3 turtleneck ones that I love that should be replaced but haven't found any to replace them. I am almost always cold, yet hate the feeling of too many clothes.
Lanette Cabelas or Bass pro for those. I just bought a couple more.
Yesterday was a more productive work day in spite of my sister in law leaving at 11 to run around! Rrrrrrr! I had planned on working on Christmas cards last night, but after cooking dinner and clean up, I read until bedtime.
Being an empath and insecure sucks so many times. 😪
DH was in a mood yesterday afternoon. I know it is because he is bored, but not my problem! He also is upset that DYD and family aren't coming for Thanksgiving. He thinks it is because of them being behind on house payments. They really need to get the house out from under us. That would definitely eliminate a lot of stress. I have told them that. I may need to assist more to get that to happen.
Anyway, I am thankful for all of you! You help guide me in my life.
Time to get walking,
❤️

Machka – sounds like you did a great planning job of your vacation, and that it worked for DH, did he enjoy traveling again?
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California
Yes, he did.
But he found it overwhelming at times. I had to make sure to incorporate breaks for naps, and even one day where we didn't get out of pjs and just hung out at the place we rented.
Although part of me wanted to spend time each evening with my parents, I also realised that when we're home, we rarely go out in the evenings. So on the days when we went there for dinner, we usually made a point of going back to "our place" by 7:30 pm.
When we were actually on the move, through airports, etc., we tried out the hidden disabilities sunflower card and in most instances, it seemed to work. It was subtle, but often when airport staff were rushing people through, they'd suddenly slow down and encourage us to take our time. Several times, airport staff came over and asked us if we needed help with something, like when we were trying to check in at a kiosk in New Zealand.
https://hdsunflower.com/au/
What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?
The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.
https://hdsunflower.com/au/insights/post/airports-around-the-world
From Gatwick Airport in 2016 to over 230 airports in over 30 countries, and 15 airlines worldwide
It’s a misconception that people living with a disability don’t want to, or can't travel. They do and they can. Globally one billion people live with some sort of disability and while some experience a disability that is visible, for many it is not visible.
Our aim is a world where people with hidden disabilities are confident to travel independently knowing that they will receive the support that they may need at every stage of their journey. From the terminal to boarding the flight, on the flight and arriving at their destination!
https://www.airnewzealand.com.au/hidden-disabilities-sunflower
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard
If you or someone you're travelling with has a hidden disability, you can wear a Hidden Disability lanyard which indicates to our staff that you may like some extra assistance or care.
We understand that living with a hidden disability, such as autism, anxiety, vision or hearing impairments, chronic pain or dementia, can make travel more challenging.
The Hidden Disabilities sunflower scheme is an international approach which is recognised by Air New Zealand staff and a growing number of airports, tourism attractions and accommodation providers.
If you're travelling with a disability that is not immediately obvious, you may wish to wear a sunflower lanyard, pin or bracelet to discreetly signal to our crew that you may need additional understanding, time and support. Our staff are trained in how to approach, support and guide you through your journey.
The lanyards, which are bright green in colour and decorated with an easily recognisable sunflower design, are entirely voluntary and indicate to staff that a passenger may:
- Need more time to process information or more time to prepare themselves at check-in, boarding or disembarking
- Need clearer verbal instructions, as it can be difficult to understand facial expressions and/or body language
- Need help reading departure boards or signs
- Always need to stay with family or friends
- Benefit from more information on what to expect before, during and after their flight

Machka That would have been helpful when flying with my DH. One eye is obviously blind but the other is not seeable as it is optic nerve damage. I have never heard of such a thing. Thank you for sharing. It seems like people kept trying to separate us when we went to the Dominican.
I will tuck this info away in case I need it in the future.
Falling star yesterday and 3 deer in backyard this morning! Reminders to slow down and pay attention.
No walking yet, but bed linens changed, laundry started, breakfast and lunch packed and logged, dishwasher emptied, and showered. Will have to walk tonight.

Barbie, what a beautiful sweater I love the color.
I wear mostly cotton hoodies. I like the over the head best. In the winter I wear the lighter weight hoodies under my coat and other seasons wear them instead of a jacket.
