This was an eerily quiet run tonight. Dark calm & not a single car passed me. Glad I had Dakota or I might have turned back. Some of my energy seems to have come back thankfully.
We have another bank robber amongst us 😅 @kgirlhart
@chris_in_cal - Enjoy Cabo!8 -
@martaindale good luck on your race Sunday! Not sure how you feel about missing your usual Houston race this weekend, but I'm sure you will get your PR! Hope the weather holds. Here in Dallas we will be in the teens and low 20's Sunday - Tuesday, so count your blessings.
Hope I can get out tomorrow afternoon before the real cold front hits. Other than that, looks like I will be treadmilling it for the next few days. Felt a lot better today, so got in 6 miles. Treadmill runs had started feeling pretty dreadful lately. But today felt easy.7 -

27.60/85.00 mile goal
I worked until 4:30 today. I hate running that late, since I need to eat dinner. So, I chose to do a 2 miles walk on the treadmill.
I AM feeling better today. I think my tummy is back to normal. I always find it interesting when I don't think I am very sick how much better I actually feel when it's all over, if that makes sense.
We had very heavy winds in our area today. More info under the spoiler.
I reported this tree down on one of the major roads on my way into work.
I have heard reports of several trees down and power outages, but, fortunately, I haven't lost power yet. I did have a bunch of small limbs/twigs on my driveway when I came home. Also a dead tree fell across the driveway, but is stuck in a tree high enough that I could drive under it after breaking off some of the limbs.
And another tree broke off at the roots near the house. Fortunately, it feel away from the house.
Tippy was checking it out after she growled at it.8 -
@kbrown1527 Nice job getting in a run after the roads cleared. Nothing wrong with changing your goal mid stream.
Thanks for the thought @shanaber . Maybe they will give you more notice next year....and maybe you can participate.
Great pace @kgirlhart ! Love the "robber" picture.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
I agree with you about black ice @Laurz9191 . Treadmill at the gym was a good call.
Congrats on your longest run this year @yirara . Enjoy your day off tomorrow.
Strong winds makes it so hard to run and makes it so much colder @SummerSkier . You did great.
Glad your energy is coming back @Mari33a .
You are doing great @Scott6255 . We're going to have some nasty weather here in the next few days too.

Or- using glazed donuts as Bun substitutes for burgers!
That sugary-savoury mash-up is a bit too much for my British palate lol)
We absolutely are on opposite ends of the spectrum. As for sweet & savory, donut hamburger doesn't sound great but have you ever had chicken and waffles? Little sweet, little savory and especially tasty with some slightly spicy maple syrup. One of my brunch go-to's.
@martaindale yeah you lost me at Brunch! Lol. 🤣
That said- Never tried it with a syrup with heat/chilli... Maybe that'd make a difference?
Fried chicken... Not really my comfort food of choice... (dare I say, chicken even as a meat of choice - save for Buffalo wings)... But did love this kind of stuff when I was in the South4 -

Shakeout and a few strides this morning on a run/bike trail along the river. It's so nice to have something like that in the middle of downtown. Trialed some clothing for tomorrow and I think I've got it figured out. I've never done this before but I'm wearing my hydration vest during the race. I have a lot to carry and I've gotten used to having it on long runs. Bonus: I don't have to deal with aid stations and getting my hands or shirt wet in the cold.
Thanks for the well wishes @Scott6255 @tarun_yadavA. I feel pretty confident I'll get a PR, it's down to how close to 2hrs I can get.
I could see the 5k starting from my hotel room this morning. That was cool and got me more excited.
Per our ongoing southern La food discussion, I had a great dinner at a Creole place last night. Started with a redfish bisque then jerk fried chicken served on top of red beans and rice. Tasty and unlike anything I've had before.7 -
Looks like a fair bit of cleanup @quilteryoyo. I hope your power holds on.1

Marathons are a great metaphor for careers, building businesses and winning in life.
Here are some of my favourite insights from my marathon experiences.
1 You don’t run 42km once, You run one kilometer forty-two times.
Focus on the present. And only on the present.
2 A marathon is a 10km race with a 32km warmup. Start slow, finish strong.
Compounding is back-ended.
3 Every uphill has a downhill.
Things are never as good or as bad they seem.
4 To finish first, you must first finish.
It’s ok to walk if you are tired, but keep moving forward.
5 It never gets easier, you only get faster.
Keep growing and raising your ambition.
6 We only see the runners in front of us, never those behind us.
Appreciate everything you have and how far you have come in life.
7 The hardest part is not finishing, it is believing you can finish.
Self belief is your greatest source of strength.
8 A marathon is not run on the road. It is run in the six inches between your ears.
Mental toughness trumps physical strength.
9 For every minute you gain on the first half, you will give back three in the second half.
Stay patient and stick to your plan.
10 It takes a team to run a marathon alone.
Acknowledge your family, friends, colleagues, teachers and mentors who have made you who you are.8 -
I’m on a cruise island in the Caribbean today but I did five miles on the ships treadmill this morning before docking. Heading back to winter weather tomorrow and I am not excited about that in the least!

1.25mi run down for today… very windy and lots of rain/sleet. Little ice pellets hitting my face didn’t feel very nice 🥴
7 -
Those are tough running conditions @kbrown1527! Good job getting out there.
@Teresa502 glad you got to go on vacation and get some running in.
@chris_in_cal have a great time in Cabo!
10 miles this afternoon. My brain was already in arctic cold and saw the wind was 15mph and low 50s so wore a long sleeve shirt and shorts. WAY to warm for that. I was sweating rivers.
Went too fast and my hip was hurting at the end. But had to get outside because it won't be above low 20s until mid next week.7 -
Great running @tarun_yadavA !martaindale wrote: »tarun_yadavA wrote: »Fried chicken... Not really my comfort food of choice..

I'm excited to hear about your race @martaindale . Good luck. And thanks. No power outages yet.
Great running. Like the spoiler @AlphaHowls .
I hope you enjoyed your trip @Teresa502 ! You're looking great. I'm impressed that you did 5 miles on the ship's treadmill. The weather IS going to be the opposite of that picture later in the week. I'm not looking forward to it either.
You are doing great @emptydog .
@kbrown1527 I'm sure that sleet didn't feel good.Great job getting your run in.
Nice running @Scott6255 . I hope you hip feels better.5 -

28.60/85.00 mile goal
Keeping the streak going. I will admit that I just didn't want to do anymore today. Not saying I was lazy. I just felt like rebelling against myself who thinks that I have to do more than that when I am feeling ok and have time.
My neighbor came over and cut the tree from across my driveway today.I did haul some wood to the house and got ready for a fire in my wood stove next week when the temps drop to below 10F (-12.2C). I'm not looking forward to that at all.
