As the weather is about to get *kitten* I decided to run again today. Running programme said 15min warmup, 5min fast and 3min slow x 4, cooldown. I managed to do 3x fast without cooldown. Hey, something. And things went much better than yesterday's run.7 -
Heading out for my first walk/run in almost a week. Saw this unusual and rare vision in the sky. 43 degrees, feels like 39 and a brisk wind. Forgot my running jacket when heading to work this morning, so with 3 thin layers on, will see how much I get in. Wanted to get something in before heading back home because temps are starting to drop already.8

I waited until lunch when it was 28F and ran 5 miles. The road was mostly clear but I had to dodge icy patches here and there. It's supposed to snow another 1-3 inches starting tonight.
Love all the pictures! @shanaber - Your photos reminded me of my time backpacking in Zion, Bryce and Escalante two years ago. Glad you listened and turned back on your hike when you felt like you should. Many people don't have enough sense to do that putting both their own lives at risk and sometimes those of the rescue teams. I imagine it's hard not being able to do all that you once did, but it is temporary. I know that with your strong determination, you come back stronger than ever!
@mari33a - Stunning view!
@daria0919 - I read about that light streak in the sky but I don't remember what they called it. The photo that I saw showed 2 of the streaks very clearly.

We are loving Zion as I knew we would. It is cold but so beautiful. Very relaxing. I did try to do a small (very small) little hike down a trail with carved steps and realized I was getting myself into a bad place. I really wanted to go down but after maybe a quarter way down I was feeling so unsteady I had to pocket my phone and hold onto the rocks to turn around and make my way back up to where Hobbes and Frank were waiting for me. It is frustrating that I was so strong and fit and now a few steps do me in... Oh well it will be my goal to get back to where I was.
Photo dump under the spoiler - I couldn't just pick one or two. 😊
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos with us @shanaber! I’m glad you’re enjoying some outdoor time in such a beautiful place. Hubby and I have been there as well as Bryce. Have you been to Bryce as well? I had no idea of what it was like and was amazed by its beauty as well.
Hope you’re doing better. As always, ((hugs)).

@chris_in_cal I'll let you know what I think. I also like having some structure most of the year. I have found I am more consistent if I have a plan on my calendar.4
-
@shanaber gorgeous pictures! Glad you were able to get away.
@martaindale what is your next race?
Got in 8 miles this evening. Was able to get to run outside today 😁 But it will be a short streak...cold coming back tomorrow 🥶

@martaindale what is your next race?
I'm going to Georgia for the Skidaway Island HM. As luck would have it, the course is pretty flat and the weather has a chance to be decent. So I'll probably race this one. See if I can shave a few more seconds off and maybe stay vertical this time!7 -

The temperature got up to 33F (0.56C) today, so I decided to go out and see if I could clear some of the snow/ice in a path to at least allow one car tire to get traction if needed. I spent almost an hour doing that. The area right at the garage door is solid ice and I couldn't get it to bust and move, so, that is still not a good area. I think I got a path on the rest of the driveway. But, we're supposed to have freezing rain tonight, so it might have been wasted effort. I was dripping sweat when I got back to the house. I cooled and then went down for a treadmill run.
I was supposed to do a 36 min hill repeat workout. I modified it and made it a higher number of intervals, but no hills. I did a warm up walk of 0.75 miles at 3.8 mph, 5 min at 4.5 mph, 30/90 sec at 6.0-7.0/4.0 mph, 2:57 min at 4.5 mph, then walked another 0.75 miles at 3.8 mph. I was proud of myself for the 7.0 mph for 30 seconds. I'm even more impressed with those of you that run at that pace or faster for 10 miles! My Avg pace of the run was 13:01 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 148 bpm.5 -
Way to get out and run in that cold weather @kgirlhart !
@shanaber I'm really glad that you are enjoying your trip so much. The pictures are awesome. I'm sorry that you couldn't make it on the hike, but so glad that you knew when to turn around and listened to your body. You'll get back to where you were, hopefully sooner than you think.
You're doing great with your plan @chris_in_cal .
You did great today @tarun_yadavA !
Nice running @Laurz9191 . Getting more traction sounds like a good idea. Your run sounds like it was very peaceful.
Great running and beautiful picture @Mari33a . Is that your house? I love that lighted room with the view of all the surrounding area.
Amazing recovery @martaindale . Is your upcoming race another HM? I see that it is. I think if you stay vertical you will be able to get another PR!
Great running before the weather gets worse @yirara .
You did great @daria0919 . Sometimes layers is better than a lot of heavy "warm" clothing....says the person who uses the treadmill rather than running in the cold.
Great running @Teresa502 . That road looks a bit too icy for my my liking. Be careful out there.
Glad you were able to get out for a run today @Scott6255 .

It was 43°F feels like 38° this morning. It was so much more pleasant today than yesterday. I ran 6.25 miles. It felt so good not to be freezing. I even saw another runner out. It was my primary care physician, and I usually see her on Thursdays, but I haven't seen her the last couple of weeks. It's supposed to be in the 20's again tomorrow, but I sure enjoyed 43° today.
Beautiful photos everyone.

Morning all.
Got in 7 (10"13 pace)
Really need to invest in gloves.
Happy Friday...

@shanaber I agree with the rest of the group. Really nice photos. I hope you enjoy your time there. It looks beautiful!
@tarun_yadavA Gloves are great (and not very expensive). I recommend a really light thin pair that can easily be stuffed in any pocket.
@quilteryoyo I hope you don't have to drive anywhere soon. It seems quite impossible to clear a route until the ice melts. Good job shoveling. That's hard work!
@martaindale Wow, another HM. Good luck with your preparation and upright goal!
Yesterday I kind of tweaked one of my hamstrings during my snow run. I really do enjoy running in the snow, but I believe there is some inherent danger in possibly over-rotating or twisting something, as you can't fully anticipate how your body will connect with the ground below it. Today it was quite icy and I didn't want to tempt fate or injure my leg further, so I opted for 12km on the treadmill. It was dreadfully dull as always, but I started a new audiobook which held my attention till I was done .
So far 132.6/200km for January.

Well, ehm... basically I thought the weather will get pretty shite and warmer so I better try to get one more run in. Wind about 4bf now, and for some reason I run best in cold and windy weather. Don't ask, because my fingers are still frozen. Anyway, I was so annoyed that I had a nice time on 16.01, but just stopped 100m short of 4km, thus today this was my target. Success, and even faster5 -

I'm glad I was able to run yesterday, because the cold was back today. It was 25°F feels like 12°F. I ran 6 miles. It looked like a pretty morning, but it was cold and windy. Not too bad when I was running south, ok running east or west and horrible running north. I am ready for winter to be over.

49.40/85.00 mile goal
Today's plan called for a 40 min recovery run. I ran 5 min at 4.2 mph, 5 min at 4.3 mph, then 4.5 mph until my HR got to around 130, walked at 4.0 mph until it went back down to around 120, and repeated until I got to 37:30 min. Then I ran almost 5 min at 4.2 mph. Total run was 3.00 miles in 42:24 min. Avg pace of 14:18 min/mile. Avg HR was 124 with a max of 137 bpm...at the very end. The hardest part of this run was the first step. I just did NOT want to run today.
I did walk down to get the mail. The temperature has hovered around 30F (-1.1C) today, but the wind is pretty brisk. I think I did more harm than good yesterday. The paths I shoveled are a real thin solid sheet of ice today...much slicker than the areas that I didn't touch that are ice and snow covered. I may be stuck on my hill until Monday afternoon.8 -
Nice warmer run @kgirlhart . I love that you see your PCP when you are out running. That is too cold for me.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Great treadmill run @Laurz9191 . It was a good idea to skip the snow/ice run today. I hope your hamstring is okay.
Great running @yirara . Hahaha about making sure you went 4k today. That's way too cold for my liking.

Today was a "progressive run," first part was easy, then pick it up to finish. It's 68°F (20°C) today at noon.
It's funny, I have a day off of work today and I am not a person that wakes up and then stays laying in bed, I get up and start shuffling around. Last night I told myself "you are going to do a morning run." I woke up today and told myself "okay, you are running this morning." I finally started my run at 11:54 a.m. I am taking the "Win."
I am not a morning runner.

Morning all.
Got in 4 (at 09"55).
100M up... So should be able to cross the 135 goal I set out.
Oh and gloves... Invest? Or ride it out for another 4-6weeks with this uber-manly pair I found lying around?? Lol
Hope you all have a nice weekend 😊8 -

Back to 23 this morning.... Got a run and few walks in yesterday to complete my Apple watch challenge of 14 days with 8 miles running or walking each. Some of the challenges are a bit much but this one was doable as long as I didn't try to get it done all in 1 shot. Will wait to run until it warms up over 40 deg this afternoon. rain expected all week but warm so I may be using my old shoes a lot.
Is it just me but I have no trouble creating the tickers and giving them a PIN etc. but whenever I go back to the web page I have to start over from scratch. It is why mine keep changing.
For the month I am at 116 miles walking and running total our of 169 needed for each month to reach run the year. Our RTY team is just cranking out the miles and I love how we all contribute to it every day.
@tarun_yadavA you might need to give those gloves back to mom...
8 -
@SummerSkier hahahahahaha. That obvious that the original owner is a 74 year old lady 😂6
-
Great run @tarun_yadavA . I vote for the uber manly gloves you found.
@SummerSkier Nice running/walking. I haven't been able to use the ticker in over a year and the last time I did, I couldn't get it to save either. Now, it just goes through a refresh loop and I can't chose the ticker or tracker. So, you just get longer posts of my daily runs/walks. I guess I wouldn't have to keep putting it all out there everyday. I could just update the total...humm.3 -

Eye of the storm. No wind at all and nice, cold weather. I didn't want to run, but I had to. And got the best 5k in in ages.

56.40/85.00 mile goal
My plan called for a 6 miles easy run. I wasn't sure I could do it, but I did! I ran 5 min at 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 mph, then 4.5/4.0 mph run/walk to keep my HR between 130 and 140 bpm. Total time for the run was 1hr23min47sec. Avg pace was 13:58 min/mile. Avg HR was 132 with a max of 143 bpm. The hardest part was just being on the treadmill for that long, so mental.
I'm going to walk to the mailbox in an hour or so to check the driveway, but since it's only 17F (-8.3C) I doubt if it is any better than it was yesterday.7
