@AlphaHowls Even running partners couldn't get me out in those conditions. You all are amazing.
Great improvement in pace @yirara ! It's sounding like running in cold weather is your thing.3 -

It totally is! I have a serious problem with blood pooling, and when I have cold arms and legs (which I always have when it's cold regardless of what I do) it just happens less 😅2 -
@tarun_yadavA nice gloves 😆 As long as your hands are warm, I say keep wearing them.
@shanaber those pictures are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. Hobbes also looks great, as usual. I hope the time away was restful and that you can regain your full health and strength. You're on my mind.
I've been able to sit up a bit more this week, did some sewing/quilting. Cold tub is my main "activity". Walked around stores yesterday, it might've been a bit much. But I vaguely remember dreaming I was running last night.6 -
Since I have such a hard time using the treadmill and the weather outside is frightful, I decided today would be a good day to start my training for Peyton's Wild n Wacky 50K. I'm doing a 2-person team again this year, so I will be running a 5K every other hour for 10 hours. So, after my resistance workout, I got on the treadmill and ran 3.10 miles, waited until the top of the next hour and ran another 3.10 miles. I figure 2 5ks was a good start.... I did get outside to shovel some snow and walk to the mailbox.
@Laurz9191 - Hope your hamstring is doing better. I tend to have injuries when I run on snow and ice too. Sometimes I don't even feel it at the time but pay for it later.

Hi everyone, I’m back! I need to start tracking my food again to shift the 3kg that have crept on in the past couple of years and to focus more on my running. Still running regularly but our move to the country has meant more hills and more trails so my speed work has suffered, and consequently so has my race pace. I decided to run the year, figuring 40km a week would see me to my target. I then promptly came down with a horrible virus and haven’t been able to run since the 6th. The non-stop coughing is probably doing wonders for my abs! I’m coming right though, and hope to test out the lungs in a day or so. It’s very hot and humid here at the moment (I’m in New Zealand where it’s mid-summer) so not really conducive to running, but we’re due a southerly change (south is cold at this end of the planet) on Wednesday, so will definitely head out then if not before. Anyway, I’m glad to be back - and happy to see so many familiar names still here.9

I think that I am going to drop out for the rest of this month. I have a head cold that just won't quit and having car problems. (I drive a 2002 PT Cruiser and love that old car, but think that it is about time to retire it) I figure that in another week I will have the car thing squared away and feel back to normal.

Dang it, lost my post that was all typed up 😔
Summary....
@emptydog sorry for your car troubles and hope you get it sorted and are able to get back with us.
@ContraryMaryMary great to hear from you again! I know you will be back in race shape as soon as you can get some consistent training in.
Too cold (for me) to run outside for the last few days so have been on the treadmill.

Hello everyone.
Oops same just happened to me @Scott6255. Must be contagious. Fat fingered wrong button and lost message I typed out !
Got in 5 (at 10"24).
Ran last ~1.5M with 9year old. Didn't go to plan. He wanted to do 2.62 again... Anyways. Started complaining - near tears. Basically, he got a stitch. Side started hurting. Think he wasnt hydrated enough.
Told him his pee before running needs to be Sprite coloured - and not Tropical Fanta coloured! 😂
Next week, we go again! Lol.
Enjoy your Sunday , everyone!9 -

@polskagirl01 I'm glad you felt like sitting up and doing some activities yesterday. Still praying for a full recovery.
@Teresa502 That's a great way to prepare for the Ultra and not get bored on the treadmill!
Welcome back @ContraryMaryMary ! I hope you feel better and like running in a couple of days. A lot of people who have been sick seem to have a hard time getting rid of the cough.
@emptydog I hope you feel better soon and get the car thing figured out. I hate shopping for new cars. Maybe that is why I drive them until they just don't go anymore. LOL
@Scott6255 I hate it when that happens. Good job on the treadmill running.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Sorry your son got a stitch and hope it doesn't discourage him. Love your description of what the pee should look like. I'm sure he wasn't amused.

Since I'm still iced in, I walked on the treadmill while I watched my church service on FB live. The services are usually around 45 min, so I had planned on 3 miles. This one ran long and was almost exactly an hour. Since I already had 3.8 miles in, I decided to walk a couple extra minutes and get in an even four.6 -

My kid and I went to a getaway house this weekend, a tiny house glamping thing. It was too cold to tent camp but I had planned to get out this weekend following my race. The getaway house was a good solution and we had a good time. I got a short run on Saturday and then we went for a walk on the nature trail.
It's warmer this week but very wet and windy so might end up on the treadmill. I don't mind the rain but the wind might make the tree fall pretty bad and I don't need to fall again before I'm healed from this one!7 -
No run today but I did walk 3 miles on the treadmill. It's supposed to be 10F in the morning but I plan on working from home and at lunch it is supposed to be a balmy 33F so I will venture outside then!
Welcome back @ContraryMaryMary! Hopefully, your lingering cough will soon run its course and you can get back to running your course....bing-batta-bing!
Hope you get to feeling better @emptydog and good luck with the car shopping.
Such sage advice @tarun_yadavA!5 -
@daria0919 Yeah for 2 walks. Glad you got out with the hubby this afternoon.
@martaindale Tiny house glamping sound like so much fun. Probably a good idea to walk/run on the treadmill next week.
@Teresa502 I'm looking forward to the warmer weather, even if it is going to be rainy all week. Glad it isn't going to be cold enough for snow/ice.4 -

Today's run was tough. I don't really know why. It was cold at 37°F feels like 28°F. But it wasn't as cold as it has been the last few days. It was windy and cloudy and gray. I wore pants and a t-shirt with sleeves and a jacket and my gloves and buff. If I was running into the wind I was cold and if not I was warm. I took my jacket off and on several times I also pulled the buff up and down a lot. It wasn't the worst run ever, but I was glad to get home. I am ready for some nicer weather. It's funny that last week I ran 13.1 for my long run and felt great and today I wasn't sure I was going to make it to 10. I did, but it was tough.
@contrarymarymary It's good to have you back!
7 -
@ContraryMaryMary - welcome back! Hope you kick that cough soon and feel well enough to get out for a run.
@tarun_yadavA - so happy to see your son wanting to get out to run again with you. Hope you told him we all have times with a stitch and sometimes you just have to walk it out and sip some water.
@emptydog - what is it about PT Cruisers? My husband had one (2007 or 2008?) that was gifted to him from a dear friend who passed away. He drove that car until it became too expensive to fix it. It had well over 100,000 miles and he really didn't want to give it up. I always found it so uncomfortable to drive or even ride in.
Hope your cold clears up and you can get right back to us in February!
@daria0919 - great job getting 2 walks in. I wish I could get my hubby to go out with me.
@quilteryoyo - I hope you get defrosted soon!
@martaindale - I love the idea of camping in a tiny house. I think my daughter would have loved it too when she was younger.
I finally got out for a neighborhood walk. It wasn't supposed to rain until much later today. Fortunately I took my rain coat just in case and had put Hobbes jacket on as well. He hates to get rained on and it also keeps him warm (not that it was really 'cold' here at 59F). Well, it started pouring pretty much the minute we started walking but since we were already wet I just figured we would keep going. The sun came out for just a second (still raining though). It rained the entire time we were out and really started pouring again as we headed home. I love a good rain run but why does that feel so great but walking in the rain seems to take forever and is just wet, cold and miserable?
It does look like I will be able to hit and maybe surpass my nominal 20 mi goal this month! I am also hoping to get clearance to start running a little if I feel up to it, from the doctor on Tuesday.

Nice run at the lake. It rained hard last night so everything was slick and muddy.

@emptydog my parents also kept a PT cruiser well beyond when they should've. I think Dad's plan was to fix it and drive it for fun. That's not gonna happen now, and it's occupying space in the garage, with deck furniture cushions stored inside 😆 P.S. good luck trying to leave us - actually you don't even have to run to be here.
I had another dream about running... was trying to run a 5k race. Got there, parked, went to look for packet pickup. It was in a long hallway in a school building. I kept walking, past marathon, HM, 11k, 7-8k (yes, that was a race distance) so many rooms, until finally I reached an unmanned counter with a sign for the 5k, that said it was a virtual race on Thursday, so I had missed it. I was confused, checked my phone and figured out I was signed up for the 11k. That sounded like too much for me, but I started back through the long hallway. Got to the right table with 2 minutes to go before start time. Volunteer there gave me an extra keychain in my packet. But when I asked how to get to the start line, she pointed in the opposite direction and said I had to go all the way around. I was going to be late for sure. Stopped at my car to leave packet and put on bib. Gave keys to my daughter. It's now 9 minutes after start time and people are already running by where I am. Start running opposite direction from them, towards start line, but the road keeps curving around and by the time I finally get to the start line, I just give them my number back and say I'm a DNS because I already ran too much. The End. 😆 Welcome to my life. I am stressed out even while sleeping 😆 Sympathetic nervous system ("fight or flight") gets stuck sometimes.9 -
Morning all.
Got in 4 (at 09"50).
@daria0919 @quilteryoyo @Teresa502 @shanaber thank you! Lol
He hasn't got into school today. Mild temperature... Maybe just under the weather full stop.
Oh, new shoes. Got these for Xmas.
I had put a reminder in for 100 days (in Nov after India trip) based on 500miles at 5 miles a run... Managed 410-ish before realising they were totally gone in one corner
Have a nice day all! 😊7 -
Great job getting in 10 miles @kgirlhart . Hopefully it will warm up soon and your next run will feel easier/better.
@shanaber Yeah for the walk, even if it was a cold wet one. I'm glad you are feeling like asking the doctor about running. I think that is a great step in the right direction. I hope he okays it for you.
Great run @chris_in_cal . Sounds like it was a win to stay upright.
That's an interesting dream @polskagirl01 ! At least you are dreaming about running and you made it to the starting line, eventually. I'm hoping that means you will get back to running soon. I used to dream about running from my church to home, way before running was even on my radar. I'd get so tired, that I would have to run backwards to keep going. At the time, I thought that was crazy, but now I really could run that distance, and all the way forward.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA . I hope your son feels better soon. Yeah for new shoes. I does look like you need them.6 -

Today was meant to be a progression run again. 35 minutes relaxed running and 10 minutes fast. Last week I accidentally clicked lap on my watch after 20 minutes and the fast run came ... faster. Today I managed the same feat after 17 minutes. Was totally not warmed up yet and had to walk twice. After these 10 minutes I was ready to run fast and basically did it then 🙈🤣 Overall not a good run, but the storm has arrived. Dry, far too warm for my liking and very windy.
Btw, I'll reach my running goal for this month this week!6 -
Hi Everyone!
As my hamstring didn’t bother me at all over the weekend and Garmin suggested a speedy workout, I decided to go for it. The snow all melted because it rained all night. This morning looked like wind and mud - and not safe fast running conditions- so I went to the gym to it. I did one long 22 minute interval at my 10k race pace which was really hard but I told myself, just 5 songs- that’s all, and put on my race playlist with lots of beats per minute.
I have been putting my towel over the clock on the treadmill which has been helpful in me not thinking time is standing still. It’s easier mentally if I just feel my watch vibrate after each completed km.
Anyways, I did it and felt proud because it was hard! My hamstring did feel really tight afterwards, so after I completed that workout I did a 30 minute recovery pace run to loosen things up again. So far, so good. I completed 11.5km total bringing my monthly total to 144.1/200km.
Then I went home, worked, and baked my now 4 year old a birthday cake after his favourite show. It was the only thing he wished for. A picture is in the spoiler .

I wasn't planning to run today. It was supposed to be raining, and I usually take Monday as a rest day. But when I got up it wasn't raining and there is more rain in the forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday so I decided to do a short run. It was 38°F feels like 33°F and a little misty, but not really. I was glad I ran. After yesterday's tough run, today's run was pretty pleasant. I only ran 3.5 miles compared to 10 yesterday, but it felt good. It has been raining most of the day, and who knows what it will be like tomorrow, so I am glad I got a few miles in today.
6 -
Nice running @yirara and congrats on your mileage. I get so aggravated at myself when I hit the wrong button on my watch.
@Laurz9191 Great job with the hard treadmill run! It is hard to find ways to make the time pass sometimes. That's a really cute cake! Happy Birthday to your son.
Great job getting in a run today before the rain hit @kgirlhart . I'm glad it was a pleasant one after a tough one yesterday.4 -
I ran 5 miles at lunch today while the sun was shining and it was 37F - a virtual heat wave! A lot the snow melted today but we still have a lot on the ground. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little warmer so that will help to get rid of it. My grandmother would say that the snow is "laying around waiting on more to come."
I have never, ever dreamed about running!
@tarun_yadavA - Nice shoes!
@Laurz9191 - That cake looks delicious! So cute!
@martaindale - Your glamping getaway sounds wonderful!

64.40/85.00 mile goal
Today was scheduled for speed play. I really wasn't feeling like running - had some minor tummy issues again earlier, but decided to give it a go. I ran 5 min at 4.2 and 4.5 mph, then 5 x (2/2 min at 6.0/4.0 mph), 8:42 min at 4.2 mph. It was a tough one from the beginning. Six mph was tough and I had to give myself a pep talk before every interval to keep from going at a slower pace. I'm glad I did it, but it was a struggle. Avg pace was 12:54 min/mile. Avg HR was 144 with a max of 161 bpm.
Non running life under the spoiler, if you are interested. My cousin was sent to the VA hospital on Friday because he was complaining to the Assisted Living staff about hip and knee pain. They couldn't really get a clear answer from him as to whether he had fallen or not, but they said it seemed really painful. The ER did x-rays and weren't able to find anything wrong with his leg, but he does have a broken rib. His WBC count was high, so they ran more tests and admitted him to the hospital.
I've talked to them a few times over the weekend and found out that they found a mass in his lungs - left side. They did a needle biopsy this morning, which went well. But, it doesn't sound good. I talked to the doctor that did the biopsy and he said that it has grown into his chest wall. I also talked to an intern this afternoon and she said that there is a spot on his liver too. They won't get the results back from the biopsy until later in the week, so have no plans yet or any real idea as to what the path will be going forward. So, we're just waiting to hear. I'm trying to not think the worst, but it's hard not to from the info I have so far.
Oh, I did ask why it wasn't found before. The doctor I talked to said that it is on the side and a chest x-ray probably would not have shown it since my cousin is pretty immobile and wouldn't have been able to stand for the x-ray. At any rate, it is what it is and we can't turn back time. We can just move forward from where we are.8 -
Nice run @Teresa502 . My dad and mom always say the same thing, esp if it sticks around for a week or so. I feel like my driveway is never going to thaw. LOL3
-
@Laurz9191 awesome cake! Seems like we have a few professional cake decorators on here. I remember Kim from New Zealand (forgot her username) and at least a couple more.
@quilteryoyo nice running. Sorry about your cousin.
Still in the 30s here, plus rain...so 6 TM miles today.
