Great cake @laurz9191. I’m also children’s birthdaying today, but Miss 10 wanted an ice cream cake, so not a lot of decorating required.
Did my first run in over two weeks this morning - only 5k and slowly. My lungs were fine but my heart rate was rather high so clearly not 100% yet.7 -
Jan total: 73.3 miles
YTD: 73.3/1200 miles
1/1: 8 miles
1/3: 7.3 miles
1/4: 6 miles
1/5: 4.5 miles
1/6: 8 miles
1/9: 5 miles

1/14: 13.2 miles - La HM
1/18: 4.2 miles
1/20: 3.6 miles
1/22: 4.2 miles
Garmin had an interval workout planned for me today. When I got home it was rainy and cold so I opted for the treadmill. I found an interval run and a short recovery run that I combined to get pretty close to the length of the planned workout.6 -
Love the cake @Laurz9191!! So cute!
The ice cream cake looks delicious @ContraryMaryMary!
@Scott6255 - I think you mean @Avidkeo? @polskagirl01 also makes cakes I think.
So many talented bakers! I am not one so I am always amazed at how great they all look!
@quilteryoyo - I know how hard it is to wait for those biopsy results to come back. I hope you get good news (benign mass). There are also lots of treatment options if it is not. One of my dd's friends was diagnosed with lung cancer and they removed part of her lung, did a few rounds of chemo and she is now completely cancer free.
Do they know how or when he broke his rib? He must have fallen I would imagine.
We had heavy rain all day here actually starting late last night. Poor Hobbes would not go out to potty and waited all day until he just had to go. He was soaked when he came in and got a good rub down all over.
Not sure I will get out tomorrow as we have a doctor's appointment for a consultation on the next phase of treatment. They have scheduled 2 hours for the consultation which seems like a lot. The rest of the week though is supposed to be warmer and there is not much else on the calendar so we will definitely be getting out.
I hope it warms up for all of you in the cold zones so you can get outside and off the treadmills!7 -

The last chance I've had to run was Saturday afternoon. We have been having some extremely stormy weather, trees down, power out, lightening strikes - all the usual chaos. My Dad had a window blown in and my son had flying debris hit and damage his car a little.8 -
@Mari33a yikes; sorry to hear Isha 's effects on you guys 😱
Just a bit windy here in London...
But did read those horror stories of Ryanair flights stranded mid-air and having to go back after going around in circles, and diverted to God knows where1 -

Not a good run. Far too strong wind and my blood pooled like crazy. Looks like I need to wear my winter running leggings again even though they're a bit too warm. But still the fastest 5k in ages. Tomorrow I'll spend most of the day in my car to visit a surgeon some 320km away. Wanted to go by train but there are railway strikes, thus have to drive. No running tomorrow.7 -
Hello everyone!
I got to run outside on my lunch break today sans snow and with a bit of sun!!! It felt great! Tomorrow there are 100km winds forecasted. If that’s the case, I suppose I will be back to the treadmill. I barely noticed my hamstring today and I am really concentrating on trying not to overstride. I felt like I could have easily run another hour, but had to hurry back for a meeting. I ran 10.3km, bringing my monthly total to 154.5/200km.
7 -
@quilteryoyo I’m sorry to hear about your cousin! Fingers crossed that the news is better than expected and that they can do something for his pain as well.
@yirara Good luck with your long drive an appointment! I hope everything goes well!
@shanaber Wow- your dog really doesn’t like rain . Good luck with your consultation!
@ContraryMaryMary That cake looks really nice. I have never made an ice cream one. I’ve never actually seen one here in Germany (not that it wouldn’t be possible). It’s on my list to try to do one for a future birthday .3 -

I got out for a foggy 6 mile run this morning. It was 43°F which was nice. I wore capri length leggings and a t-shirt with my sleeves. I thought the sleeves might be too much, but it was just misty enough that I was glad I had them. It was a pretty good run and I really needed it this morning to clear my head before work. There has been some extra stress this week. I am ready for January to be over. But not really, because I don't have all my stuff done yet.
So sorry about your cousin @quilteryoyo. Hoping for good news for him.
Lovely cakes @Laurz9191 and @ContraryMaryMary!
Hoping that your doctor appointment goes well @shanaber.

Thanks all for the thoughts on my cousin.
Great treadmill running @Scott6255 .
@ContraryMaryMary Happy Birthday to your Miss 10. Love the ice cream cake. Glad you felt like running. You're getting there.
Nice treadmill run @martaindale .
Thanks @shanaber . Since they sent my cousin to the hospital because his leg was hurting, I am assuming that he did fall and that broke his rib. I'm sure that is painful. I've never had one, but hear they are. I'm hoping for benign. Poor Hobbes. I hope your appointment goes well. Two hours does seem like a long appointment. Do you take notes so you don't forget what they say? Or, maybe ask to record the conversation. I've never done that, but it was a suggestion I had when I was going in for consults for my heart surgery. I did take lots of notes though and then wound up calling them the next day with questions after I looked at what I had written down.
Thanks @chris_in_cal . And, yes, each run is a gift. In short, I had an aortic root aneurysm that they had to repair with open heart surgery. It's a long story because it was during CoVID and many things happened to make us put it off for a couple of months. I got along great...only in the hospital over the weekend - surgery on a Fri, home on Monday. I give credit to God and the fact that I was running and in good health otherwise.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Oh wow @Mari33a ! That sounds like some strong storms. I'm glad the damage wasn't worse. Stay safe.
Glad you got in a speedy run today, even if it was hard @yirara . Safe travels tomorrow and I hope the appointment goes well.
Great run today @Laurz9191 . I'm glad your hamstring was okay. I hope you stay safe tomorrow in those winds.
Nice run @kgirlhart . I hope that your work stress eases soon.5 -

66.40/85.00 mile goal
I got in the cleaning mood, which doesn't happen very often. So, I spent quit a bit of time today on the house. I was pretty tired by the time I decided to quit that, so made today a cross training day and walked 2 miles at 3.8 mph.
After I cooled, I went out to check the driveway. It was 54°F (12.2°C), so was able to be out without a coat and it felt so good. I did wind up spending about 20 min shoveling/scraping off the remaining slush/ice from the driveway so that I'm sure I can get out tomorrow. It's not supposed to get to freezing tonight, so it would have probably taken care of itself, but I wanted to make sure and the arm workout is good for me. It feels good to know I'm free to leave if I want to.5 -
Great cake @Laurz9191! I'm definitely an amateur at cake decorating, but I did buy a better decorating kit for next time. Probably husband's birthday. Except he likes German Chocolate (German as in the last name of the guy who invented it, not the country) and that doesn't really need decoration. Unless I add a second decorative icing. Chocolate? Hmm. Might be a good excuse to use the tools I got.
Happy 3 Years @quilteryoyo!
I'm on a baby quilt kick lately... current/recent projects in spoiler:in various degrees of completion...7 -
Morning all
Got in 5.25 (at 10"04).6 -
Love those quilts @polskagirl01 ! Baby quits are fun to do because they don't take as long.
Another nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Just to be clear to everyone, the 3 year anniversary of my surgery was on the 8th of Jan. I think @chris_in_cal somehow was looking at old posts and saw that when he commented a couple of days ago. But thanks for the comments anyway. It's nice to be reminded that people care and I am blessed to be here - alive and on this thread.6 -

It's still windy but some blue sky back so got a run in this afternoon and it felt great!
@quilteryoyo - Sorry to hear about your cousin's health, you have to deal with so much.4 -
Yesterday, I ran at my local park at lunch. I was able to get 4 miles in on the snowy trail before it all melts away. It was cloudy but the temperature was 46F. This morning I met a friend at 5:00 am and we ran 5 miles. It was 37F. The sidewalks were mostly clear but were still a little slushy in places so we would have to slow down and pick our way across those areas.
@quilteryoyo – Sorry to hear about your cousin. I hope the biopsy results are good.
@Mari33a – That’s some scary storms. Glad you are ok and the property damage wasn’t too bad.
Hope your medical appointments go well @shanaber and @yirara.
Beautiful quilting @polskagirl01 – definitely a lost art! Do you give the quilts to people that you know? I’ve heard of some groups providing baby quilts to local hospitals.

Beautiful quilting @polskagirl01 – definitely a lost art! Do you give the quilts to people that you know? I’ve heard of some groups providing baby quilts to local hospitals. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I was the youngest member of a quilting group at a local church. Half the group made knotted blankets that mostly went to places like Ronald McDonald houses or NICUs. I was in the group that did official quilting and we had a months' long waiting list for quilt tops that mostly local people wanted hand quilted. Those people would give donations for the work we did, and that went back into funding the blankets and other charitable work.
Now I do it on my own and most of the quilts end up as gifts. Quilting isn't well-known here in Poland, so this weekend I'm going to use one of the tops from my pictures (the one with 9-block squares) to teach the ladies' group at my church here about quilting, and the plan is for us to knot that one together, then I'll finish it off and we'll gift it to one of our ladies with a new baby. The other 2 are for family members with new babies just born or on the way. Good thing all of these babies are boys because basically one set of fabric has been good for all three. I'm using light yarn instead of quilting thread, and bigger stitches than normal, as I've got deadlines and this way goes a lot faster.
One of my favorite things with quilting is taking people's unfinished projects and finishing them. I've done a bunch of projects like that for people's family members after they passed away, or antique quilt tops bought at auction. A few of my original creations have been awarded at local quilt shows in Pennsylvania. But I also go long stretches without doing it at all. The fact that I'm able to do it now maybe is a sign I'm at least adapting to being sick and trying to make something out of it. But like today, I sat at the quilt frame for 2 1/2 hours, then sat on my kitchen stool making lunch, ate, and then fell asleep for hours (even with my daughter's screaming friends in the background - I heard them but didn't wake up).7 -

Hi Everyone!
The wind did end up being too unpredictable today, and I didn’t feel like fighting Mother Nature, so I did 10.2km on the treadmill. 164.7/200km for January. I’m hoping for a long run outside tomorrow.5 -

Another treadmill run for me today. I did an ifit run around the imperial city in Japan that was about an hour long. Really good one and getting my hyped for our vacation to Japan this summer!6 -
chris_in_cal wrote: »polskagirl01 wrote: »A few of my original creations have been awarded at local quilt shows in Pennsylvania. This baby quilt was hand-pieced and got ribbons in it's category (at least one was blue) at 2 different shows.
One of these "postage stamp" baby doll quilts (they're sized for like an American Girl doll bed) got a ribbon at a show.
This one I'd like to enter at some point, but made it in Poland and haven't been near a show. Hand appliqué was my own pattern.
This one started as a UFO (unfinished object) - I was given just the "plates", without the green centers or white background.
There's at least one award-winning quilt I'm thinking of that I can't find pictures of, oh well. And a lot of just average quilts. This is enough for now 😆10 -
Very talented @polskagirl01!
Did 6.2 miles today. FINALLY got to go outside after 6 days of cold / rain. Maybe one more day tomorrow. Garmin rewarded my effort by bumping my VO2 Max up by 1. It is now up to 63.
Doesn't look like I will make goal this month, but that's fine.

Thanks @Mari33a . I'm glad you got in a run under some blue skies.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Nice runs. I love the snowy trail. Looks like you had more snow and not a lot of ice. Slush can be really slick too. I'm glad you were able to avoid it.
@polskagirl01 That is great about the quilts. I have a friend that restores antique quilts. She does a great job. I hope the Polish women like quilting and I'm sure all the recipients of those quilts are going to love them. I love all of the quilt pictures. The applique is beautiful and love the one with the green border.
Great treadmill run @Laurz9191 . I hope you are able to run outside tomorrow.
Sounds like a fun treadmill run @martaindale . I don't think I knew you were going to vacation in Japan this summer. That should be fun.
Glad you were able to get outside for your run today @Scott6255 .
Nice run @chris_in_cal .

When I started out this morning I somehow paused my watch as soon as I started it. Luckily, I looked at it when I was at a spot that I know is a half mile from my house. So I planned to run until my watch said 5.5 miles, but I can't math and run at the same time so I ended up running 6.5 miles today. Other than being annoyed about not starting my watch it wasn't a bad run. I am tired of cold and drizzly, but it wasn't as cold as last week, so I don't want to complain too much. I did go onto Garmin and edit my run from 6 to 6.5 and changed the moving time to match the elapsed time so I was less annoyed after that. I was just glad that I actually knew how far I had run with my watch on pause.
Those quilts are lovely @polskagirl01.

Been a struggle this month but I calculated I could still make my goal if I ran 5 per day or less the rest of the month. This morning it is supposed to finally NOT be rainy. I mean rainy and 50's trumps weather in the teens with wind chill from nasty blue northers but it gets kind of depressing this time of year.
@kgirlhart one of the reasons I have my watch tell me .25 splits is because sometimes my sleeves in the colder weather reboot or pause it on me. so annoying. I tried water locking it but it still happens. I even put it on my other wrist to try to help.
@polskagirl01 amazing quilts!! so talented. I am always impressed by artistic endeavors.
@quilteryoyo hope you get some good news on your cousin or at least an easy path forward.
@Scott6255 I bet that felt AWESOME getting out after our sucky tx weather the past few days, Colder up there and I don't like running in the rain either. Monday it was raining SO hard here I just went out for a walk with an umbrella and still got soaked trying not to step in puddles.
