Morning everyone!
Got in 4M (at 09"26).
@shanaber @quilteryoyo @daria0919 thank you ladies! 😊
@martaindale champion for getting back up and finishing so strongly!!
@Teresa502 nice! Key West is nice!
Glad to be back home?7 -
@martaindale Awesome job getting negative splits in your race! That is always the strategy I aim to do, but then I start out too fast. Also, that is tough having to pick yourself up right away after a fall like that and get back on pace. You have matching injuries to my fall last week - hand and knees . I hope your post-race recovery is going well.
@tarun_yadavA Good job running with your son. I hope he enjoyed it afterwards!
I planned to go on a run yesterday and even spent most of the day wearing my running clothes, but I was in a resting state of inertia (yeah, lame excuse- I know). Anyhow, today I went running outside even though it was snowing and windy my whole run. The temperature was right around freezing which was fine, but I don't particularly enjoy snow in the face. I ran 9.2 km. So far I have 88.5/200km for January.7 -
@yirara - Can you post a link to the Dutch study? I would be interested in reading it and @polskagirl01 might be interested too?
Here the part on long covid: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-44432-3
The rest, what seems to promote long covid was only said in an interview on tv. The research there is still on-going. I do wonder whether there are actual crossovers with chronic fatique syndrome and similar considering that exercising also makes it worse. Also, future treatment, should it be found might also be interested for people with inborn mitochondrial impairment (that might be me).
I'm really behind on following this thread, but thanks for thinking of me. And you're definitely not alone in wondering about the crossovers from ME/CFS (chronic fatigue). There's a lot of research being done to understand long covid, but the "answers" may take a bit longer. For me personally, I didn't exercise for several weeks during my initial infection, and I was very intentional about returning slowly to activity... but looking back, something just wasn't right with me from the beginning. It seems clear in the research as well, that exercise definitely makes it worse. But some people just seem predisposed to developing long covid, and many of them fit the profile of people in this group (active females around ages 30-50ish). Even more reason to take this seriously and be extra careful!
On the other hand, if you have healthy mitochondria, no long covid, and want to get healthy or are going through treatments like @shanaber, reasonable exercise is probably one of the best things you can do. So get out there and enjoy it!
@quilteryoyo I've seen vaccines for tick-born illnesses also available here in Poland, being recommended for people who are at higher risk (people working in the forest, etc).
Icy weather running - I agree with screw shoes or those grippy things you can strap on to shoes you already have. I can't remember what all of those things are called, but there's a variety out there.
Congrats @martaindale ! I can feel the ouch through your photos though - feel better soon!
As for me, it's the same old same old...
We did have a lovely cold snap, although it seems to be over now. I got some cool pictures on a walk. I also wore a buff and probably shifty eyes 🙂, but then of course stripped down to a bikini afterwards and got in my ice-tub 😆 I had so much ice that I had to use a hatchet to break it up, and actually threw a bunch of ice out, which lowered my water level but made room for me to fit in the tub... now I've put the big chunks of ice back in, so they'll melt and bring my water back up.8 -

34.10/85.00 mile goal
I decided to do a Speed Play Run today. I did half a mile walk for warm up and a mile walk for cool down at 3.8 mph. The run was 5 min at 4.2 mph, 5 min at 4.5 mph, 4 x (2/2 min at 6.0/4.0 mph), 6:20 min at 4.2 mph. It wasn't too bad. I'm not sure that I could have run much further at a time at 6.0 mph. I ran 2.50 miles at an avg pace of 12:56 min/mile. Avg HR was 139 with a max of 161 bpm.
This morning, William and I went down and helped mom get some extra wood on her porch in case she needs it this week. While I was wrapped up, Tippy and I took a stroll in the neighbor's field to enjoy the snow. If it starts snowing again, I may take another stroll. Right now, we have about 1.5 inches of snow and the temp is 35F (1.7C). It's supposed to get down to 21F (-6.1C) tonight and high of 25F (-3.9C) tomorrow with -1F (-18.3C) on Wed morning! We're not used to temps that low around here.
Tippy on our walk this morning.7 -
Nice running @tarun_yadavA . Is it still icy and cold?
Great running @Laurz9191 !
@polskagirl01 I can't even think about jumping in a tub of water that I have to cut the ice out of first! Burrrr. The picture from your walk is stunning.4 -

Lots of folks under snow/ice today, me included. Hope everyone stays safe and warm.
Got in 6 TM miles after doing some work from home.

Today it was -28 with the windshield. Agree with @Laurz9191 , sometimes you just have to go inside. Got to listen to a podcast while wunning and did some weights. Did go outside with the dog on Friday at 10 degrees. Was dressed well for it. All you could see were my eyes. I scared the dog at first. Enjoyed the run. Sun was out at least.
Question-does anyone have aching in their legs at night after a run and if so, is there a way to prevent it?3 -
I have to leave Mexico tomorrow. It is definitely now on my list, I'm coming back to Cabo San Lucas. I wouldn't want to be here in summer, but clear, warm, sunny, 77 degree (25 C) winter days are a nice way to take a break.
January Running Goal: 13 runs, 50 miles- Jan 3 - 1.2 miles
- Jan 6 - 1.06 miles
- Jan 8 - 1.15 miles
- Jan 11-2.48 miles
- Jan 13-2.48 miles
- Jan 15-1.78 miles

Saw this scrolling on FB this morning...
TN ladies @quilteryoyo @AlphaHowls @Teresa502 ... Is that what it's like you for you guys right now??
Looks pretty! Not sure id enjoy running in it!
@quilteryoyo - to answer your question... Nothing like that spoiler photo! It's cold here. Minus in C (so I'm gonna say 20s F for you). Bitterly cold wind (double as I'm near the river and seems to pick up added wind chill) with ice/black ice on roads/pavements. No snow tho

@chris_in_cal glad you loved Mexico! I love that country!
Did you do any watersports? /Did you venture out at all - street food tacos etc?1 -
Morning all.
5.1 miles at 09"42 pace6 -
It's the 16th of Jan and it's 16 degrees with a nasty north wind blowing. Big NOPE for me this morning. It's going to be a struggle going in to the office too but supposed to warm up to almost 30 later today and maybe the wind will die down for another effort. I went out yesterday afternoon for a 1 miler at about 25 deg and honestly altho I tried to convince myself to go further my face was cold and my feet were cold. I had double leggings on (one corduroy) and mulptiple layers and a scarf and hat but my ears were numb after just 10 minutes. I used to go to school in upstate NY so I do know about running in the cold but I think the 40 plus years have made me a little smarter. LOL. If there had been real snow it migh have been warmer and more fun.6

@AlphaHowls I love the snow as long as I don't have places I need to be. To me, it makes the harsh winter look not quite so harsh.
Great treadmill work @scott6255.
Great workout @elizury !
Glad you enjoyed Cabo @chris_in_cal ! I hope you had safe travels home.
@tarun_yadavA Something like that, but it is way to cold to get out and sled today. My temp is 18F (-7.77C Seems to be a number that pops up a lot for you. ) and dropping. When I was young, I did enjoy sledding though. Nice running.
@SummerSkier Yep. I wouldn't run in that either. We're colder than you today. I'm dreading get out and walking to the mailbox later.

I swam in the ocean a couple time. No surfing or sailing, which I love doing, but I kept this simple.
I got a sunrise swim in today and here's where I had pancakes afterward.

Yesterday, it snowed off and on all day. After I did my strength workout, I went outside and ran 3 miles. My road had about an inch of snow on it so it was slippery going but the temp was 26F and I was plenty warm. This morning we have 6 inches of snow and the temp was 16F with a feel like of 13F and it’s only going downhill from there. After my workout with weights, I managed 3 slow miles on the tread mill. @tarun_yadavA – I am not happy to come back to this weather!! I should have found an Airbnb in Florida and worked from there!Congratulations on that PR @martaindale! But ouch on that fall. Pretty medal and the after-party sounds like a fun event.
My husband put some food out for the deer. I wish I had thought to get some bird food for the feeder.
@polskagirl01 – You are one tough cookie! No way would I voluntarily get into an ice bath!
Oh @chris_in_cal – what a lovely breakfast view! Glad you had a nice vacation.

Hi everyone! Because of snow over here in Germany as well, I opted for an hour on the treadmill today. There is supposed to be more snowfall tonight and I am planning a snow run tomorrow . The snow should melt fairly quickly, so I want to try to get at least one more cold but petty winter wonderland run in. I ran 9.5km bringing my monthly total to 97.9/200km.8

Question-does anyone have aching in their legs at night after a run and if so, is there a way to prevent it?
Is it a general fatigue/achiness or a specific area that tends to bother you?
I'm glad to have some rest days during this arctic blast. The timing worked out well for me. My knee isn't as bad as it was last time so it should heal up more quickly. Otherwise it's mostly a lot of bruises.6
