1/17 133.0 I’m pleased with this but expect it to go up in the next day or two. I wanted something with crunch and ate 5 saltines with butter. Back “on the wagon” but no idea what is the snack/supper they are serving at bingo tonight.
1/18 134.5 I was weak. Did great with sub sandwich - pulled all of the soft white bread out and used the crusts to make my sandwich, added onion, tomato and lettuce. I should have stopped there but ate 2 bakery cookies. I’m okay with this though. I should be able to get rid of that quickly.

1/20 134.0 OMAD was later than I like (after 5) due to HOA workshop DH was conducting. Shedding may take longer than when we ate earlier. It is what it is. In 10 days I’ll be going on a 6 day quilt retreat. No meals provided. The ladies I’m going with try to eat low carb too and one husband will be playing “Uber Eats” for us.
1/21 134.0 Had a scratchy throat last evening and this morning I seem to have lost my voice. Sucking on zinc drops (SF) so my coffee tastes awful.
1/22 134.5 I feel as if I’ve been run over by a truck. How did my weight go up when I only had about 5 ounces of chicken and a small side salad? Ugh! Coffee still tastes awful.8 -

Yesterday was a Chinese buffet for lunch and the children’s movie Migration (very fun movie) at the Cinema. I know I am retaining water today so I hope for a drop tomorrow, but it’s going to take more than some fluid loss to right this wrong. If you’ve been around awhile then you know I’m either full-steam-ahead on track or I’m lollygagging somewhere off the beaten path. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between for me. Time to get back on track. No more shenanigans!

History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

1/17 – 128.2 Makes absolutely no sense BUT I tracked perfectly yesterday, and I actually solidly under ate. So, this is where I am trusting my tracking and not the scale and moving ahead with confidence.
1/18 – 127.4 So “yesterday” cleared up, just as I anticipated. Did I end up back at 127.2 where I started? No, but also last night I faced eating a meal that I could not plan for, and was one for which it was necessary that I not pull out the “I track my food”, a point which I normally am more than willing to share as I think tracking is awesome (remember I like data). DH and I were invited for dinner by the hard working, but divisive/temperamental, head of our condo association. He is French, so the meal was actually quite healthy, but I am sure somewhat more than my normal calories. Plus he served champagne, then wine (I rarely drink), and possibly the best steak I have ever had (note that I never order steaks in restaurants, so no restaurant steak to compare to). Anyhow, overall happy with the number. Was a nice evening, and no condo drama occurred, which was a concern (I’m sure it was a concern for him as well). Happy Thursday all!
1/19 – 127.8 truly surprised. numbers were good yesterday and when I got up this morning I felt great. I totally expected a nice “down”. Continuing with the trusting my tracking. As I mentioned, numbers were good and calories were not too high, not too low, and did include a nice walk yesterday, even though I have walked farther at other times. Tonight’s dinner is the same as 1/16. Let’s see if I get the crazy “up” again. Fun experiment!
1/20 – 126.8 Sooooo, the up on 1/17 was not due to dinner on 1/16, as I had the exact same dinner last night and dropped instead of gaining. The mysteries of weight loss/maintenance continues. Grateful for the drop. I am getting back closer to the range in which I would like to remain.
The “boys” (AKA Harry and Han Solo, cats) are doing well…. Finally. Han is dropping a little (11 lb 12.5 oz), and Harry (10 lb 13 oz) who had been vomiting and dropping weight, is gaining nicely. My preference for both would be between 11 and 11.25 lb. I doubt Han will ever see that but I will settle for striving to keep him under 12 lb. Meanwhile, Harry might actually get to these numbers.
1/21 – 129.0 Ouch! Yes, I decided to eat unrestricted at a restaurant last night, complete with cheesecake for dessert. Today, is back to normal. I’ll expect the scale to reflect normalcy again in just a day or two.
1/22 – 128.0 Starting to go down. Heading out for a fast walk this morning, then I’ll join the girls for the usual pace. Tracking for the day. Making sure I hit my numbers.

1/17 233 / Yesterday wasn't everything that I was hoping for it to be thanks to some unexpected news at night, but I stayed the course and didn't eat my feelings and it paid off on the scale.
1/18 231.4 / Been about a month since I've been at this weight. Woo hoo. Back at indoor soccer tonight.
1/19 233.2 / Soccer game was fun last night but we were terrible. Got some running around in an otherwise low step day. Today has been good - I am working from home so I got to use my lunch break to ride the Peloton. Love that.
1/20 232.2 / Ended up doing two rides yesterday and I treated myself to a bubble bath after some cleaning. Felt great to pamper myself.
1/21 236 / Yesterday was a relaxing day. We also ate too much take-out... day just sorta ended up that way. Weekends haven't been as disciplined as week days which slows my progress.
1/22 233 / Got a one hour ride in on the Peloton before watching my Bills suffer a crushing defeat. Cheering for the Lions now! Working from home today so I was able to ride the Peloton before work.. love that!

@SModa61 and @Corina1143 Thanks for the tips. I tried them and the scale still didn't move so I decided to weigh myself after my morning cup of tea and it finally changed. I think it needs to recognise a different weight that is close to the last one it assigned to me before it will snap out its funk.6

1/18 : 164.2 lbs Surprised by the drop because I ate a lot of curry last night. I might be dehydrated.
1/19 : 164.2 lbs I need a plan for pizza night. We make small pizzas from scratch and the home made base is delicious but calorific. I think I will aim for 4 slices which is about 500 calories according to my calculations. I will eat slowly and mindfully with lots of sips of water in between. Last week I ate 6 slices which was way too much and I felt over full.
1/20 : 164.2 lbs I am so pleased that I stuck to my plan for pizza night. Usually I gain about a pound then spend the rest of the challenge trying to lose it again. I felt full after 4 slices and most importantly, I didn't feel like I was missing out. Even though my the scale hasn't moved for a few days, I feel like I am making progress.
1/21 : 164.2 lbs I think eating slowly had really helped me get more pleasure out of eating small amounts of treats. Yesterday my kids made some apple crumble and it took the family less than 5 minutes to eat a their slices. I made my small slice last 15 minutes. I know I have rubbished mindful eating in the past but for me it is really helping. Still no movement on the scale though. I am surprised the scale would actually weigh me so consistently the same weight. Surely there would be fluid fluctuations from day to day that should show up on the scale? My scale remembers different people's weight. I suspect there is logic in the scale that snaps the weight to my last weight if it is within a certain margin. Or perhaps my scale is broken.

Hi all, it’s my third round. I’m going slow but at least it’s going down. I’m 34 years old and 164 cm (5’ 4.5”). The highest weight I saw on scale was 105.9 kg. I started on December 30, 2023 with 104.7 kg. I aim to lose 30 kg probably in 2 years, realistically. I just try to eat more vegetables, decrease carbs, increase protein, calorie deficit and go to the gym 3 times a week. I’m not very strict (I hate strict diets) I sometimes eat pizza and drink beer however I still try to be in my calorie limit. I am ok with losing it slowly but eating everything. I hope I can be consistent and this can be my lifestyle.

I stopped logging my food, because I don’t make right choices anymore and tbh I’m a bit tired and stressed. I’m also not doing great on my PhD dissertation that affected me a lot. I have a deadline tomorrow for my draft for my monthly meeting with my supervisors. Maybe after this I will focus more on food. But still thinking about food all day and everyday is so frustrating. I don’t wanna think and calculate everything I eat. I hope at some point I start to do it without thinking about it. I know it’s a process and I’m trying to be patient but it’s so hard.

I wanna thank everyone ( @Cchassee , @itladyee , @abigailgorton1 , @dawnbgethealthy , @SheilaBoneham ) here you’re very supportive and it means a lot. I moved to the UK 1.5 years ago and I don’t have any friends to talk about losing weight process (except my partner who is not overweight like me). So it’s a lonely process, and PhD is also a lonely process. So everything is too overwhelming sometimes. When my deadlines are close I tend to do emotional eating or just choose high calorie foods. I sent my draft today will meet with my supervisors on Thursday. I have another deadline in next week, hopefully, I will be less stressed and eat better.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I didn’t want to log my foods I thought I would feel worse by realising I am not doing well. I even didn’t want to weight myself but I pushed myself and stayed in the challenges, that’s all I could do. But I will continue, today wasn’t great but I will be better tomorrow.
@SheilaBoneham my area is very multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary, my research is on LGBT+ migrants’ homemaking experiences. I still don’t have a working system to be honest I try to do 25 minutes work 5 minutes break these days but it’s not great so far. Maybe I can try yours 45+15.
@abigailgorton1 I’m a first year PhD student but actually it’s my second PhD I studied in my home country before 3 years but I left it to come to the UK.

1/17 - 153.2 - very excited to be starting with a loss - now I need to hold it. Celebration season is over and looking forward to getting back into a normal routine - although what I thought was going to be a quiet weekend this weekend has suddenly become very busy. Winter Warrior Challenge #17 - 3 miles - still snow covered roads and extremely low wind-chills. 14 days left to go.
1/18 - 154.5 😩. Winter Warrior Challenge Day #18 - walked 3 miles to give my legs a rest. Roads are still snow covered, 17 degrees Fahrenheit, feels like 10 - felt warm compared to the past 4 days 😂
1/19 - 152.8 😯. Not sure how that happened, but happy to see it. Winter Warrior Challenge Day #19. Still snow covered roads (it's been too cold to melt) and super cold 🥶 but I got it done. On the downward slide “only” 12 days to go 🤪
1/20 - 152.3. Hoping this holds but going out to dinner at very fancy new restaurant tonight so thinking this will likely go the other way tomorrow. Winter Warrior Challenge Day #20 - 5 miles. Only 11 more days to go!
1/21- 152.5 - busy day - lots of car time- drove 2 hours to watch my daughter compete in an indoor track meet - lots of random food but kept things as healthy as possible and did not go overboard. Noted that indoor runners seem a lot warmer than I've been lately 🤔 🙄 😂 - Winter Warrior Challenge Day #21 ‐ 3 miles. Still very cold and snow covered roads. It is supposed to warm up a bit this week so hoping I can finish this challenge on clear roads 🤞
1/22 - 152.6 - is this sticking???? Fingers crossed. Winter Warrior Challenge Day #22 - ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT - and I am SO excited. The weather has been brutal - which is the point of the challenge - but it is definitely getting old. Tomorrow we are expecting 3 inches of snow covered with a .3 inch glaze of ice… should make for interesting running
