Ginny--I understand about difficult staff member and being an adult. Somedays it is easier to just do it myself. Right now I am working on covering for co-worker until they decide was treatment they are going to do for her foot. The reason she didn't realize she lost her shoe is because she doesn't have much feeling in her feet and it was so cold she just thought it was that. They have sent her to a burn unit in Lincoln today to see what plan they can come up with and am praying she can do it out patient here. IF they do then I can set her up in a room here at the hospital and she can get her treatment and maybe work part time.
Kylia--Yes she is diabetic and only 32. She lost her mom just before Christmas and so she is one not to ask anyone for help. We have had freezing fog and light rain the last couple days. A little warmer today. Still have a lot of snow on the ground. DH and I watch Barrett-Jackson and amazes me what some of those cars sell for. But fun to watch.
Heather--Sounds like Edie has it all figured out and a good plan.
Michelle--Sorry to hear about your friend. Sending prayers.
Lisa--Love the duck night light. It would make me happy also. Thank you for sharing so I can be happy too.

Thank you Barbie, for continuing this group. I joined it once two years ago but my resolution petered out. I'm back and working at it again. I've had to back it up with support from my doctors because my weight hasn't triggered heart disease and diabetes, yet, but it is a matter of time, so I need to work this personal challenge hard. Inspiration from all of you also working through this is a real boon. I get setbacks and hurdles. I just love hearing when you are able to make your way and find a path.
I started January at 279 lbs and hope to eventually get to 170.
I love my family but they are zero help for resetting and building a healthier life routine. I try to tune them out and not talk about it with them. It's hit and miss with friends, too. I don't mind doing it for myself, but sometimes I wish I had someone to cheer about it with. -ajt
@pinh , ajt - Cheering you can get here, in great numbers. I do remember your username, but don't, unfortunately, remember what name you wish us to call you or where you're from. I might suggest that you not look at the 109 you want to lose overall, but just look at this month, lose one pound this coming week, and then set a four or five-pound loss for yourself for February. Lanette has begun a weekly weight check-in for several of this group who need that kind of accountability, if that helps you. Or you could even set an interim goal of 28 pounds in six or seven months, as the studies say that losing ten percent of your weight will help lower your risk of serious health conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. You can do this!

Welcome back. As long as you are breathing, it's not too late to restart the journey to health and fitness. I couldn't address the numbers on the scale. I have no power over that, but I have power to change my behaviours and the people I spend time with. I can resolve to eat certain foods and not eat others. I can resolve to spend less or no time with people who don't support my values. I found this thread so I could communicate daily or more often with women who are on the same path with me. I hope you'll keep coming back.

Hi Lisa, My name is Anna. Thanks for remembering. I do agree about the smaller increments. I have some smaller goals. Weekly tasks about workout routines and little celebrations for each 10 lbs. Each day I am on program and working towards my goal is a great day. -ajt4 -

Did the 20-40-60 workout on the treadmill then took the water aerobics class. Stopped at the Salvation Army – nothing. Then went to the place where they put this thing on one of my orthotics because I need it modified. First I went to the orthopedist the other day who said I needed to take it back to the place where I got it (why he couldn’t just modify it is beyond me). Well, the place where I got it won’t modify it until I see the MD there because (get this) it’s been over 2 years since I’ve been there and your feet change. HUH? So what are they going to do if my feet change? Say “we won’t help the doctor whose care you are under now” So the receptionist suggested another place that might do it. They probably will BUT you need an appointment to have it done. No idea how long it’ll be before I can get an appt. All for a 5 minute alternation. Take one part off, that’s IT. Then went to Aldi
Tomorrow I go to the dentist who did the root canal to be sure that the infection is cleared up (I think it is, My gum is a bit swollen but I’m sure that’s because I don’t have the permanent crown on yet). But first after work I have a “care” package to send to my friend in Switzerland. It must be very upsetting how fast the tumor has grown.
Yea me! I got my protein in today. I tell ya, cottage cheese is pretty high.
Barbie – I’m so glad to hear that you are prepared regarding charging the EV battery. I thought of you when I read that article
Michelle NV – It’s good to hear that cactus plant’s roots are shallow. I will ask the Master Gardener at the Cooperative Extension which kind would work best. We don’t have long, harsh winters. Yes, we do have winters. Like last week and early this week the temp was in the teens. But now for the rest of the week it’s supposed to be in the 60’s. Lovely flowers. Thanks for posting those pics
Oh, Siri is so adorable. Sorry, Allie, but she takes the picture….lol
M – what is the difference between a private school with a learn-to-swim program and public?
Anna – we’re good for cheering...and crying with you if needed. Just watch out for pip’s boot!!!!
Lisa – proud of you for getting back on that elliptical! What an adorable night light. It makes ME happy, so I know it makes you

Welcome back, Anna! People will always resist change in their loved ones, but they will get used to the new you in the end. It is unfortunately true that we do sometimes have to make changes in the people we associate with as we change. Our peer group is the biggest influence in our lives as regards lifestyle.
With regard to making friends. ...... Tonight we dragged ourselves out to French Circle and I'm so glad we went. The speaker was an inspiring young woman who has worked in many countries in International Development and Women's Rights. Originally French Canadian. An academic, just about to get her doctorate, and a footballer. I went to speak to her about Edie afterwards.
Just before the start a woman I remembered from a few previous conversations came and sat with us for a chat. Her French is no better than ours, so that was reassuring. She runs a charity with her husband which takes vulnerable families away for weekends to try and get a kick-start on changing their lives. Apparently, her daughter, who lives in Copenhagen, had stiff words with her at Christmas about how she is overworking and not looking after herself properly. I felt we got on well, so I offered my email address and she gave me hers. She suggested meeting up for a coffee sometime, so that was a good start! One thing I want to do this year is make a couple of local friends as we have none at all. Plenty of friendly acquaintances. The family is our local social life, although I have good friends elsewhere.
So, a valuable evening! Even John chatted in French to a man next to him, who is a little bit weird, but amiable enough.
The book I am reading, The Science of Stuck has recommendations for making friends. It's hard at my age, but you just have to be brave. Online friends count as friends.
So, my friends, good night from England.

M – what is the difference between a private school with a learn-to-swim program and public?
Michele NC
The Public.
Or more specifically, heaps of bogan children who feel that crapping in the swimming pool is acceptable.
And people who feel that making out or having water fights in the swimming lanes, while learn to swim classes are going on, is OK.
I'm not positive yet but I am hoping that the pool run by the private school will have less of that sort of thing.

Oh my gosh alert the press! I have turned on the vacuum..😂. That's how much I hate vacuuming! But its in the spare room where youngest will be staying so, I am excited to clean it. Not like you could tell besides the lines on the carpet, and some dirt in the vacuum bin. The upside to having cheap rental home sh1t brown carpet is that you really can't tell if its clean or needs vacuuming! I have moved a spare chair up there, given him a bundle of hangers, and a basket to put his dirty clothes in. His bed is made, he has 4 towels in his bathroom. Buying him toothpaste and shampoo/body wash plus a new puff scrubber tomorrow. I am buying some meals I know he'll like but the fact that I haven't fed the kid since 2018, I know he likes different things now. We will drag him on the next shopping trek after he gets here, which is fairly soon. 💖.
We haven't gotten specifics from the eldest sailor yet but he states that the squadron told him he won't know until the week he leaves. Doesn't give him a good heads up. Typical Navy fashion. 🙄⚓
I haven't mentally imploded from excitement quite yet!😂🙄⚓😁👍🏼🙏

Rebecca: How exciting, getting ready for your son's visit!
Heather: Welcome! Congrats on your retirement.
Barbie: I have never looked at anything by James Clear but I agree that systems are important. I use to love to go to Starbucks and get a croissant and large black ice coffee and then go to the gym. But since I have cut back on Starbucks because of cost I have also gone to the gym less. Crazy! I need a new routine for going to the gym!
Heather: Congrats on a new friendship! Wow! Edie is athletic! Great going for her!
Carol: I hope you have stopped fighting with yourself. I have days like this!
Sue: Glad you got back to water exercise!
Pipcd34: Congrats on new license!
Betsy: Cute photos
Lisa: Very frustrating about the furniture!
Rita: Congrats on 6 months sober
Lanette: I hope all goes well with the dermatologist!
Machka: Glad you enjoyed your walk around the stores!
Ladycopnh1--good for you..getting on the treadmill!
Michele: News about your friend in Switzerland is quite sad. I will be thinking about her.
Kylia: Congrats on the walking.
Debbie: I hope your breathing eases up. I enjoy zumba.
Tracey: Great that the GoFundMe worked out so well!
AJT: I would love to hear how you exercise and lose weight!
Well I have volunteered at the Animal rescue with the cats the last 2 mornings and both afternoons have been too tired to do anything else. And this is with cool weather. I don't know if I will be able to keep this up another summer.. with the heat. My brain wants to, but my body is tired. I am not being lazy. I am tired. So frustrating.
I really want to work more on my house. I am excited about the decluttering. I took an old computer with a large monitor and a large extension cord out of my linen closet this week. My husband had stuffed it there. I organized the linen closet and finally have a linen closet. That something so simple can bring such peace.
I have a grief therapist and she asked if I was ready to meet someone new. Really, I don't think I want to be a house manager again or a caregiver. But I am into decluttering, cleaning and setting up the house for this time in my life.
My son is coming this week end so I will have to reach an end point so the house looks okay when he arrives. My brother in law wants my Accord because he is tired of cars rusting up north. I guess he is working on having the car shipped. I will
probably have to clear my schedule for whatever day the shipper wants the car picked up.
Best,

Heather: We had no problems with the storm, although a friend 6 miles away lost power for some time.

Lisa I am so glad you are inspired by my little bits of exercise because you inspire me too! Ten minutes is an excellent amount for where I am right now. I was doing more when I burned out and quit last July, but that doesn't matter now. What matters is finding an amount to challenge me a little bit without hurting my bad knee or other joints. So three days so far!
Rosemarie I'm with you on taking it slow dating. It would be a lot of driving, and eating out. Not sure I want to do either just to talk to a man.
Allie congratulations on Siri!

Did REALLY poorly at Newcomer bowling. As much as I hate to admit it, maybe I need a lighter ball. But on the other hand, my foot is bothering me and it seems the only way I can get that insert modified is if I make a MD appt, which I don’t think is necessary
M – I’ve been a member of the Y for over 30 years and in all that time, not once did a child (or adult) crap in the pool. There was one time we had to get out of the pool because a kid threw up, but that can happen to even adults. The lifeguards don’t tolerate making out or having water fights, they make the offending people leave the pool area. Guess things are different in Australia.
Rebecca – I can feel your excitement. How wonderful!
Rosemarie – want to hear something really funny? When we lived in the Poconos, as you would come out of the Y, right in front of you was a Dunkin Donuts. I know that the Y was leasing the land to them and so getting the money. But it was just funny that after exercise, you saw a donut shop

I wouldn't say that things are different in Australia. It's a big country! I've been in several different pools in other parts of Australia which have been fine, excellent even.
I can't even say this is how things are in other parts of Tasmania.
But the main pool here has a bad reputation and several of my work colleagues have stopped going there for the same reasons I
have mentioned and because they got sick when they went for swims. Apparently if a person is lucky enough to be able to snag a lane in the 50 metre area it isn't too bad, but those lanes are almost always full. And I am not up to swimming 50 metres.
Several other public pools including 2 YMCAs have closed ... often maintenance and cleanliness issues are cited when that happens. It's summer and 4 local pools are closed at the moment. It looks like 2 might be permanently closed. Most were built in the 1960s or 1970s --they are falling apart and have been let go because it costs too much to do anything ... and few seem to care.
Other places focus on kids ... all kinds of kids programs to the exclusion of adults.
The thing is, we're a small island so when anyone suggests that maybe this area needs more public pools or improved public pools, the response is always "just go swim in the ocean. "

Heather - 10 years old! She sure is amazing.
I don’t know if I would like private school, I think public schools give you a good mix of what society will be. Mind you, my only “experience” with private is what I’ve seen on TV so I’m really not that knowledgeable on the subject.
It’s so hard making friends as an adult. It was why I started ceramics. I also have remained friends with a few that I worked with at the manor. We are meeting in February for a dinner.
Annie - is there someone that would take your father swimming and out and about?
My Mom rapidly declined when we took her license from her. As soon as she went into the nursing home she actually has had a very slow decline. I think it’s because of the social aspect, there are reports that loneliness increases dementia symptoms. She lived in the country her nearest neighbour in any direction besides my brother was 4 miles. Walking wasn’t an option.
I’ve only been able to read one Dean Koontz book. I can’t even remember the name of it now. DH used to enjoy his books.
Lisa - Good for going back to the elliptical. I love your night light.
When Kaitlyn and Brodey were first together she decorated their bathroom with a sailor rubber duck theme. Brodey hated it. When the moved the first time after they had a little money he asked her to do something else, he told her he felt like he was being watched in the bathroom. Since then I buy him something with a rubber duck every year for Christmas. Last year he actually chose a rubber duck on the socks I bought him.
Machka - when I took swim lessons there wasn’t any public swim at the same time. There was lane swimming, but those people are there to swim and then get on with their day.
Rebecca - I’m so excited for you!
Rosemarie - your excitement at cleaning and decluttering is bursting off the page.
All of this decluttering and cleaning you’ve all been doing has given me the bug. I did get my craft/spare room done this weekend. There is a bit more that doesn’t belong there, but I need to wait for my wall and painting to be done first.
I also got the top of the coat/broom closet done. I’m working on a plan in my head for the bottom, and I have the kitchen pretty well done. It stays pretty organized anyway because I just don’t have room to make it cluttered, but I ordered more Tupperware to complete one shelf of modular mates to help with getting more out of boxes and bags.
I got all of my assignments done today. Unless there is homework assigned tomorrow I’ve got it all done for this session.
Next weeks session is only one week, career strategies I think it is.
I am going to take my Christmas village out of the china cabinet tomorrow. It will be empty and easier to move on Saturday doing this.
I’ve been watching a series I had recorded called #textmewhenyougethome it’s terrible what humans do to one another. The difference with this show compared to a lot of the True Crime is that some are found.
I should head to bed. It was another what seemed like sleepless night last night. I think I must have slept some though because I woke up before my alarm.
The fund is at $9630 tonight. Almost 1/3 of the way to goal.

Tracey - Those charity bags are great! I even managed to find the clutch bag that goes with the wedding shoes and put them together in a plastic zip bag. They've all been used once for my son's wedding! Even then I took them off for the dancing!
I just love the feeling decluttering gives me. I found a new word recently - I'm a Simplist. (As different to a Minimalist) I like a simple everything.
Now to get our first cup of tea and take it to John. We are having Burns Night tonight, with my son.

When my husband and I were last there, I wasn't taking swim lessons, but I noticed that the swim lessons were being held in the 25 metre pool during a time when the 25 metre pool is open to everyone and all their kids.
The 25 metre pool is mostly a general swimming area, but has 3 lanes on one side. While the swim lessons were going on in 1 or 2 lanes, several of us were trying to swim in the 3 lanes, or all being pushed into the 1 remaining lane because there was a class on, or being pushed into the the main part of the pool where everyone and all their kids were. We tried to create a virtual 4th lane by swimming beside the 3rd lane.
At the same time, everyone and their kids were playing and doing who knows what everywhere including in all 3 lanes, making it difficult for those of us who were there for a lane swim and making it difficult for those who were there for the class. No one seemed to exercise any control over anything.
The day I came face to face with a "floater" was the last day I darkened the door of the place. Later I discovered that I was not alone in that experience.
BTW - I can propel myself 25 metres from one side of the pool to the other. It's not pretty and I highly doubt it is efficient, so when I say I was trying to do lane swimming, it was me doing "the flounder".

Vicki-I hope something can be arranged for your staff closer to home. Being able to work part-time would no doubt be beneficial.
Rebecca-enjoy your preparations for your sons!
Kylia-luckily no road issues. I know we need the rain but as a friend said yesterday-could we get it every other day with some sunshine in between!
Michelle-properly fitted orthotics/inserts made to your feet can make a tremendous difference.
Annie-so good to hear you moving forward.
Machka-I think it is very good your husband is picking up a new interest.
Lisa-I am not surprised you have a Duckie nightlight.
Just a quick read through this morning before stretches and work. Expecting another rainy day here but much warmer. Fog this morning but luckily I am not far from town proper so it shouldn't be too bad (and very familiar road).
Working through things at work-seeing what duties were left undone. Prepping pay raised today so that will be good to finish. Mainly double checking the three that have other changes the same period and setting up my letters for their files. Really is easier to do myself-set letters up as a merge and print to their electronic file and email at same time. Technology can be handy!
Have to remember to add some sort of squats to workout this morning for Rita's challenge. I doubt I follow the schedule but I will work to the total amount!
Take care all,
