Tracey - sorry about the cupboard. If you can't return it, I would put it down to experience, find it a good home, and look for something else. It will just annoy you otherwise. Could Rodger build you something? Or is that too much pressure?
Round here there are cupboards and shelves advertised all the time on Freecycle. What do you need it for? Does it have a specific purpose?
I am moving towards peripheral vascular disease with intermittent claudication. I will discuss this with the doctor. There are easy tests. I have always needed to keep my feet up, hate standing, and get leg ache. My ankles sometimes swell. I wear socks all year. No treatment, apart from losing weight and more walking. I suspect it is inherited from my father. His leg circulation was poor and always had cold feet. My chloresterol is normal. Helps me resolve to get my weight back down.
I am well hydrated and all my bloods are normal. I do have slightly elevated blood pressure and take medication.
I can do all my exercises, climb stairs etc. Flexibility good for my age.
Just ache and can't walk far. Grrrrr!!!!!

Tips that have worked for me- Put your current numbers into MFP
- Select sedentary as your activity level
- Choose how much you'd like to lose (i.e. 1 lb/week)
- MFP will give you the number of calories to eat
- Eat those calories
- To find out how many calories you are eating, weigh your food (with food scale) and log every bite.
A few extra things have helped me along the way:
1) Exploring my grocery stores and markets to find delicious, filling low calorie foods. It's amazing what's out there.
2) Exercising as much as possible. Exercise gives me extra calories to work with so that I can have things like pizza now and then ... but to keep my sanity and not wear myself out, my exercise quantity varies as does what I do for exercise.
Also, I tend not to eat all my exercise calories back.
If I've just done a little bit of exercise like a 3 km walk or something, I'll eat about 50% of my calories back.
If I've done a moderate amount of exercise like a 5 km run or 50 km bicycle ride, I'll eat about 75% of my calories back.
If I've done a lot of exercise, like a half marathon or a 100 km bicycle ride, I might eat about 90% of my calories back.
3) Eating how I want to eat. This is where everyone is different ... some people prefer to employ fasting, others like high protein diets, some like vegetarian diets, some like to eat 2 or 3 meals a day, others like to graze. Go with what works for you.
Personally, if I had to define what I do, my diet is probably most similar to a Mediterranean diet with a vegetarian lean ... and I'm a grazer. I also have to adjust what I do depending on my cycling events ... they're tricky because I need the fuel without going overboard.
Stick to it for 5 weeks, then reassess how things are going.
What do I eat during the week:This is my usual work day ... quick & convenient ...
11:30 am snack - crackers & cheese or a banana - 100 cals
2:00 pm lunch - rice, chicken, veg - 337 cals
3:30 pm snack - yogurt (175 grams) - 73 cals
4:30 pm snack - either apple (or other fruit) or crackers & cheese - 100 cals
Sub-total: 610 cals
7:00 pm dinner - lots of veg + something else - usually about 400 cals, but occasionally more. Once in a while even as much as 700 cal!
Sub-total: 1010 cals
And then a couple evening snacks around 8:30 pm. These are what I often have to "counteract" with exercise. If I don't do much exercise, I can maintain my weight like nobody's business! But if I eat fewer snacks and/or exercise more, I lose weight.
Regarding Cheat Meals
When I was on a mission to lose weight in 2015, I never went over my calorie limit. I stuck to the plan like glue. And I lost the weight.
But I broke it up into weeks. When I started I had 15 weeks until we were going to Canada so my plan was to stick to the calorie limit for 15 weeks and then take a 1-month break while we were in Canada. I did that and lost 15 kg in that time. After the 1-month break, I eased back into it for a couple weeks, upped my calorie limit slightly, and then stuck to it like glue for the next 20 weeks in which I lost 11 kg and took me close to Christmas when I took another break for about a month.

A little bit about me ...I'm Machka and I am a Canadian/Australian in Tasmania, Australia.
Some of my favourite hobbies/sports/activities include:

I bake, but don't cook, sew, knit, etc.
Most of my day is spent working with health data, doing some of the hobbies/sports/activities above and spending time with my husband (who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury 2 years ago) and cat, Rhody.
My husband is not able to work anymore, so one of his main activities is gardening. He works at that at his own pace and we've got quite a lovely garden of flowers, fruit and veggies. We're also beekeepers, but unfortunately we don't have bees just now.
This is Rhody ... an all black, year old "domestic" who joined us at the end of March 2020. He's our COVID Kitty!
I joined MFP in February 2015 and promptly lost 15 kg, took a 1-month break, then lost another 11 kg. By Christmas 2015, I was down to a weight I hadn't seen in quite a few years ... since my early 30s.
In 2016, 2017 and the early part of 2018 I maintained while increasing my cycling. My sport, within cycling, is ultradistance cycling: Audax, Randonneuring, 24-hour races, etc.
Here's me in 2016 in Brisbane, QLD a couple days after cycling a 300 km event in 18 hours including all breaks. I'm 49 years old there.
In late 2017 and early 2018, my husband and I were in great shape and feeling good. We were cycling events and on our own and building up the distances in the hopes of going to France in 2019 to ride the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 km event. We met on a Paris-Brest-Paris in 2003, and the 2019 one was going to be a bit of an anniversary trip.
And then on March 22, 2018, my husband had a very bad accident at work ... and life changed. He was in a coma for 3 weeks and post traumatic amnesia for 7 weeks and in hospital for 100 days. Then, a year after the accident, he had a tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure which set him back. He'll never fully recover but he's doing better then they originally predicted.
He is cycling again but gets very tired so can't cycle consistently or for long distances.
Because cycling is something we've always done together, this means I'm not cycling the ultra long distances at this point either. In an attempt to boost my exercise we've set up a home gym, and I've got into running a bit again. I hadn't run since I was in my late teens!
But all the time sitting at the hospital and dealing with the aspects of care for my husband, plus working, plus attending university took its toll on my weight and I don't look like that picture above anymore!
So that's me in a rather large nutshell.

This past week or so has been a bit of an adventure!!
Celebrations:
- My husband's passport arrived
- The final step of his settlement finally took place
- I finished a quarterly report using the new code I've been putting together
- My work from home plan was approved
- I got new trail running shoes
- Last week I walked the furthest in a week since September 2021: 24.2 km
- I'm getting back into the stair climbing
- We got back on our bicycles again for the second time this year
- We started fencing classes!
New adventures:
- The fencing classes
- House hunting!
We've started looking around at houses ... and even went through the process of putting in an offer on one place!! That's the first time I have ever gone that far toward purchasing a house. It scared the crap out of me! The house was nice and ticked most of our boxes. I would put it at about 85% but I did have misgivings about the other 15% and was actually a little bit relieved when our offer was rejected. However, we've done this once now, so maybe a second time at some point in the future won't be so scary.
I like challenges to help keep me motivated with exercise and since I'm on Strava, I do some of the Strava challenges.

Preferred PT place is not even scheduling new patients. THey have a 40 person wait list, I’m number 41. Will call other places next week and if can find one to take me will then call MD and have them send the order. Kinda backwards but guess that’s the way things go now. Will also follow up with the other MRI place to see if they’ve received the order that MD has now sent three times. So that’s my navigation. Grateful that Bob and Brad have so many helpful rotator cuff stretches and exercises, maybe I can heal before the MRI and PT This week’s massage really made a difference.

My brother just texted me to say he has a new great grandson, Theo. So I am a great, great, aunt once again! There were problems with the pregnancy, so she had a Caesarian at 35 weeks. Baby bit slow to breathe, on oxygen, but jaundice is clearing. Mother well. So glad the hospital were on the ball! The baby is heavy for its gestation.
I got him to ring me and we are trying to arrange a date to meet. I was telling him about my leg troubles, and how they may be inherited from my father, and he said he had the same thing. My brother is diabetic, but I'm not.
Nice to chat with him.

Good morning, my dear hearts, from the darkest reaches of the Arkansas River Valley (Well, it's all dark, but it sounds dramatic, doesn't it? 👀🙃😹)
Was in bed by 8 p.m. last night, slept straight through until 2 a.m. before I even stirred, and went back to sleep for a couple more hours. Healing.
Tracey - I'm sorry about your cousin's granddaughter's losses. Helping me keep things in perspective.
Sue - You and I must have cross-posted last night... I'm so sorry the squatter is causing you that kind of stress. Corey and I have discussed more than once buying a house and renting out either that one or this one, but your experience makes me more sure than ever that a rental management company would have to deal with it. I'm so sorry she's impacting your health. Seriously, it's so much less effort for people to be decent human beings--don't know why they turn that way.
Machka - I keep forgetting to say that the blues you are wearing in this picture just lit you up. Such a good color for you! Rowan's blue suits him, as well. You both look relaxed and happy.
Heather - I do hope they can figure things out with your legs, I know it's terribly frustrating. Congrats on the family's new baby. Do y'all do family reunions?

Heather and Machka - On the can do it/get to do it/have to do it spectrum, one thing I read that helped a lot was identification. So instead of saying "I can't have sugar" to a host offering a sweet dessert, say, "I'm not a sweet eater." Instead of saying "I can't have alcohol," saying "I'm not a drinker." Instead of saying "I have to exercise," saying, "I'm fit, so I exercise." Wrapping our reasons for doing things into who we are instead of what we want or don't want makes it more permanent and easier to identify with for ourselves as well as others. Just an observation.
Don't know what the day will hold, but I hope it will be distinctly better than yesterday.

Tracey I agree the cupboard looks small there, and a second one might look better. But then I tend to fill all my wall space with shelves and drawers and always more storage! I'm sure you will figure it out, you have an artistic eye.
Heather hope you can get a diagnosis of your leg pain. So frustrating in a town built for walking to be limited.
Lisa hope there are no bad surprises today. Sounds like your knees will be addressed soon, because you are on top of the paperwork. Good job!
Welcome to the new ladies! I appreciate when you sign with a name and a general location. It helps us remember who is who, which is essential to remembering who said what.
I am 62, retired, and live in Delaware taking care of my Dad. He has dementia but it still quite active, which means he is an accident waiting to happen. We lost my mother to cancer last December. My wonderful friends on this forum listen to my fears and complaints about my dad, which helps me stop stress eating.
I weigh 188 which is about the most I've ever
weighed. So it's time for me to get serious again.
Time to go back to the basics. Sooner or later I need to quit sugar again. I'm five foot four.
I'm working on drinking more water and getting a scale set up as well. Just like me to tackle everything at once!
Today's dilemma is whether I have enough calories to have a mocha latte to celebrate the snow. It's marvelous that my concerns are minor!

Machka - fencing looks like great fun and exercise. So glad to hear your energy is back. I remember the excitement of looking at houses for sale. Mentally moving in and all that. I understand your relief in the purchase falling through.
Regarding moving into a smaller place, I remembered a 55+ senior gated community not far from me which has apartments and duplexes for rent. I called about them - nothing available (not that I'm ready to move anyhow, it's years off unless my health changes.) Huge waiting list. Monthly rent price very reasonable. The property manager said about 14 houses come up for sale every year, they come along with all of the owning a house expense - new roof, plumbing repairs, etc. are on the homeowner. But they take care of all of the lawn maintenance, trim the shrubbery, etc. Monthly maintenance fee though. The houses are close together but there's a huge green area good for walking alone or with a dog. Smaller houses under 1000 square feet, prices reasonable. Something to investigate further when I get time.
Sue - so sorry for the aggravation with your renter. I take it she's working? I wonder if she has a gambling addiction or something and is tapped for money or if she has a mental condition. Hope your attorney has some solutions for getting her to leave, especially now that it's affecting your health.
Heather - congrats on the new baby. Hope further testing can give you solutions for your leg pain. My siblings and I keep each other on top of our health issues, it's good to have that family history. My sis is getting glaucoma, so far my brother and I are OK there but we share high blood pressure.
Barbara - wouldn't it be great to have that shoulder fixed up so the MRI isn't needed? Sorry such a long wait for it.
Annie - sounds like you are formulating a plan to eat better and get back with your exercise. Do you have a good place to walk outdoors when the weather permits?
Lisa - I've been developing a scheme to avoid the sweet treats and unhealthy foods that others offer too. I think it's easier now that we're older, the peer pressure isn't so bad because so many of our peers also are in the same boat. Some of mine - "That (cookie or other sugary treat) looks good but now that I'm pre-diabetic I need to cut out that stuff. Diabetes runs in my family." "Thanks for the gift of wine. I'll see if I can use it in cooking. Sadly, I used to love a glass but it turns out I'm developing a allergic/histamine reaction to it. These old age allergies are the pits!" Which is true - most people don't know what a histamine reaction is so they don't want to go there.
Have a tentative plan to walk with my neighbor this morning if the weatherman can make up his mind. Changes hourly from "just cloudy, temps low 40's, no wind" to "possibility of heavy rain, 9 mph winds, wind chill 35." Back and forth. We'll see as it gets closer to 9 or 10.
Think I'll buy myself a Magic 8 ball. Probably more accurate than the weather service and their expensive weather forecasting equipment, lol.
Celebrating sorting through stack of papers in my office yesterday and sending a lot of them to the shredding box. Navigating filing what's left today.

Life is somewhat less stressful and more interesting than it has been in a while.

Morning all,
My bloodwork who knows is all over the place.. with the kidney issues and thyroid issues and lupus,im a hot mess but will wait and see what the rheumatologist has to say..
Then onto endoscopy and colonoscopy sceduled for April 2nd
Had a swell time out with Trudy and Susan at Happy Hour and had a couple Sangria's slept like a rock..

Celebrating: Life in general. I’m in reasonable health.
Navigating: Self care for my eczema. I’m following the advice of the nurse practitioner by dressing, and moisturising with the prescribed preparations. It’s almost bake to normal, so that’s good.
Celebrating: 5 years of maintenance, 3 of them below my Ultimate Goal Weight of weighing what I did when I got married in 1966.
Navigating: developing and fine tuning Solid Habits to stay as fit and healthy as possible.
Celebrating: All you lovely ladies who are so willing share your wisdom and compassion.
Navigating: Fitting in my many and varied activities, and interests. Local shopping done before lunch. Over an hour of exercise complete early this morning. This afternoon I am choosing to relax, and go with the flow.

Well I got the bathroom scale set up. Next I need to figure out how to weigh myself first thing in the morning when Teddy is waiting to go out.
Lanette I don't know exactly why, but my knee does better on the even concrete in the basement than the uneven sidewalk concrete. I should probably do a little of each but today there is snow. I'm celebrating with a mocha latte, while I sit here and plan to lose weight! I plan to skip some other calories. And get on the bike before lunch.

Sue What your tenant is doing is a good defense is an offense. I agree that it is time to start eviction notice. I would just let the paperwork and the law take care of it. Dealing with her directly will not work. Since you own the property you could change the locks too. If she starts to damage your property have your documents in order call the police and have them remove her.
The renters who were so difficult behind my son's house have moved. The owners are now going to fix it up and sell it. Hopefully it will be bought by owners who will not be so difficult.
The next year I am going to work on clearing out the home DH lived in and do some minor cosmetic work on both properties to get them ready if I need to sell either property.7 -

I actually got some halfway decent sleep last night... first time I can remember in several years. Not sure how that happened, but I am definitely thankful. I've been on my diet for 2 weeks now. Can a diet really start helping that quickly with health issues? I sure hope so!

Here is the squat challenge link again for anyone who would like to try it. I am following a specific plan (found on pg. 1 or 5) but we are all doing our own type of squats and amounts. The goal is just to do them at least 3 times a week. As Barbie said on a post there: “It is not how many you do, just that you do them!” I’m starting on Week 4 of the structured plan. I do better with structure.

Been reading along and hope to respond this evening! The weather has been better here and that is uplifting. I have been very tired. Something is not right. I am going to go to the Vitamin Store today and purchase a few supplements. I have never done that much. Also although I can exercise for free at home, I find I am tired and sit on the couch and look at social media. So I am going to join a gym that has exercise classes and go two to three x a week. Will give this a try! I am 64 and certainly feel a difference from 54. I did not feel this difference from 44 to 54. But I guess I have to age at some point!
For awhile while my DH was collecting his social security and working I did Noom and Nutrisytem. I also tried online coaching with weight watchers. Truthfully the tracking at MyFitnessPal.com is all one should need. The articles they ask you to read on Noom are fun and entertaining and keep one motivated...for awhile. And Nutrisystem teaches portion control. Coaching with weight watchers emphasized having the right foods available in the house to eat! I had a personal trainer for about 6 months..2x a week and we lifted weights. Again this could be done at home. Ah but we are social creatures!
We had some group come into town, stay a couple of years and then moved to the town next door near the base. I feel they were a scam. They weighed you and gave Vitamin B12 shots and took your blood pressure. And supposedly gave you one on one counselling. But the counsellors knew nothing. I think I knew more. And who needs their blood pressure taken every week by a diet company. It was a scam.
So I have been around the block with the weight loss industry! And probably will be again! Logging one's food and exercising ....seems so easy! Why is it such a struggle!

April Yes, a diet can help how you feel right away. I found that out when I changed my high sugar/carb diet to one low in carbs and no sugar. I need to get back to that. I’ve been stress eating and now at my limit. I know I feel better when I eat better. I just need to tell my cravings that! 😊

Did a yoga DVD and then went for a walk since it wasn’t raining (YET). Had the dishwasher running while I went for the walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do another yoga DVD. Boy, am I totally inflexible. Seems to have gotten worse, maybe because I haven’t been doing it regularly
Emptied the dishwasher and then went with Vince to Ace hardware to get some sort of bolt for the thermostat that he broke. He had problems getting it to put out anything but hot air, but somehow he figured it out.

Didn’t realize that the coffee I had for Colby expired in Feb of 2023. Since I’m not a coffee drinker, would it lose that much of the flavor? He and Jess just went to WaMart and he got different coffee.
The lady across the hall from us had her bathroom remodeled. I am now officially jealous. I was looking on lowes.com but didn’t see anything in a cabinet that I liked. One of the things that I absolutely want is a cabinet (for the sink) that sits on the floor and most of them have some sort of legs. We have that on one of the cabinets at home and it’s a pain to clean underneath.

M – no surprise, but when we were looking for a house, Vince made a spread sheet of the things we absolutely didn’t want, things that we’d prefer not to have but can live with, things that we absolutely wanted.

April sugar in the evening keeps me awake, both directly and because it makes my joints sore.
I did ten minutes on my bike! Yay! Plus six minutes walking cool down.

I had a busy afternoon. Finally got tired of pawing through stacks of papers in the office so I brought the piles out to the dining room table and started sorting. About 1/2 of them went into the shredding box, the rest will need to be filed. Also I took a look in the little file cabinet by the desk in the office. About 2/3 of those files went into the shredding box.
Do you think I'll need my car insurance policy from 2014? Me neither.

Thanks! Well youngest was here since Feb 2 so he heads out 26th. Eldest has been here since 11th so he'll leave for Japan on March 7th. We will be down at middle sons place 23-26th, dropping youngest off at Sea-Tac airport on the way back up to Whidbey. Its kind of amazing that the Navy has allowed me the luxury of having them over a month!🤗💖
