This evening was lovely, no wind, bright but frosty feel. My run went from ok to feeling good. I got dehydration salts today to see if that would help my stiffness & it certainly did no harm. I’m still doing bike & sweat loads & feel thirsty a lot no matter how much water I drink so thought maybe this is the issue.
@daria0919 Sorry ur training has made u feel so low. At least you know these guys know what they r talking about!
I never take part in races because being too self conscious or self judgemental I feel I’m too slow & I hate everything gets posted over local social media. There’s a 10km coming up in a few weeks about 25 miles from me & in early January I was seriously thinking of signing up for it but then the past 6 weeks have been such a struggle I’m sort of glad/sad I didn’t.

@Scott6255 @kgirlhart @tarun_yadavA @Teresa502 @quilteryoyo @daria0919 Thank you all for your kind wishes. It looks like they have more signed up this year than last year. But it is a well-organized affair and the weather looks good for tomorrow.

@daria0919 Others have given you some great words of wisdom. I agree that there is no shame in dropping down to the lower group and maybe jump back in with the other one if you feel like it. The point is to do what you feel will allow you to keep going. Don't give up. Modify.
@TheMrWobbly I'm glad that you "remember" when you are having trouble going 13 miles, that it wasn't that long ago that you were having trouble with 7 and 10 miles. It reminds me of one of my favorite Christmas gifts this past year - in the spoiler.
Yeah for a high energy, faster run @yirara !
@Mari33a Glad you had a good run today.

Did a driveway wun after having a fairly large early lunch at a local China Buffet with neighbors. It had rained all morning and the driveway was wet and slick in spots, so didn't want to push it too hard.8 -
First run of the spring! Yesterday I ran a 12km - 7.4 miles run but the slippery weather sometimes makes it difficult for my legs. But excited to finally start running this year now that the snow is almost gone.8
-
That's the first I heard of raindrops stopping your watch @yirara and I will switch of my touch screen for runs from now on.
That is a great gift @quilteryoyo and spot on!
Good luck with your race @emptydog and anyone else racing this weekend.
Swapping long run Sunday for long run Saturday so I can look after my better half who is under the weather right now. Given the actual weather looks awful for Sunday not a bad plan anyway. Done some carb loading, had my double espresso. Let's see how it goes.
Have a great weekend everyone!10 -
Hi everyone!
Bad news over here 😥. I had a great 8.2km treadmill run and gym session yesterday. Then couldn’t convince my son to go to soccer practice, so no second run yesterday.
Then today, I started running and was planning an easy 10 miler and I literally couldn’t run. My right calf would loosen up. I can walk ok but as soon as I go from walk to jog I just can’t. I am as planning my 20 miler on Tuesday and even took the day off work, but now I’m going to have to wait and see. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious and a few days of rest will do the trick. I limp ran 1.2km .
151.8/250km for March.8 -
Morning everyone!
Got in 4M (at 09"59 pace).
Wasn't particularly hungover - so got a run in!
(Same group of friends from Christmas, where I passed out on the table with the bottle of Jack! Assumed I'd be messed up this morning, and that 75 consecutive runs would be a good place to stop... But no! All good. So I ran! Likely to run with 9year old tomorrow - so streak goes upto 11weeks!)Found this brewpub that none of us had been to before.Anyways. Long story short. Stopped at the right time. And ate so heavily that was unable to drink anymore. I think save for 1 person, we are all 'stick a fork in me'.
Had a couple of pints at a couple of different pubs before this one. This flight was pretty generous and had some really dirty %age stouts and bitters. Stuck to the Tropical IPAs for the next couple of rounds.
Then there's Indian pub nearby thats gone viral and has become really popular. We were all, 'lets get a pint there' and try our luck to see if we can served food at the bar. It's nearly 10 at this point.
Made it there
(Don't know if link works)
https://youtube.com/shorts/x3fPMyLSFjI?si=u1bpaJqJwgAApnXU
Had no.6 there (excl the Flight), then just ate... And ate... Food was amazing.
So no hangover, but counting 6 pints of beer and all that Indian food (oh and I had ice cream and Lanzoprozoles when I got in!)... I probs ate at least 5000 calories yesterday.
So today's run was pretty sluggish!
Gonna nap after lunch!
@Laurz9191 😱😱😱 noooooooo. You have been amazing of late. Hate it when that happens. Take a couple of days off and hope you're better soon 🤞🏽🙏🏽🤞🏽🙏🏽
@daria0919 really sorry to hear about your sitch with the PT. Personally - I don't mean to be controversial here and/or offend anyone... But I think the overwhelming majority of them are money-grabbing soul-destroying pieces of 💩.
Up there with recruitment consultants who will happily sell you the job from Hell for a commission... And real estate agents (realtors in American!) who will happily sell you the Amityville Horror home for a commission. I say this as someone who (wouldn't call a friend) but have an acquaintance who's a PT. I mean he does other stuff too like Brazilian Jiu Jitu... But basically. I was fat upto 2016 then started losing weight (running - I only started during COVID when the Gyms closed and is a self taught skill). I used to use the gym a lot. My old friend the elliptical cross trainer and weight machines. Anyways. Made friends with the PT there. Never used him per se. Anyways, there were ladies I'd see there all the time. And never really lost weight. Fast forward several years. Last April, after marathon and after vacay, I picked up a knee injury (that hasn't really gone). But for about month, mid April to mid May, I stopped running and went gym to use the elliptical. Anyways. They are still there!! Same ladies, zero weight loss. Jokingly said to my PT acquaintance... 'Hey BRO, what you doing man. They ain't losing weight'. Laughed and said. 'Ha, they're paying off my new car'. I just laughed it off. But in all seriousness... Other than the odd success story which they need to brag about and put on their page... Whole business model is built around people who want to lose weight but never do.
I would totally ditch her.
And try and switch to a less stressful routine where you're accurately counting calories and getting steps in through walks and some runs.
Hope I didn't offend anyone. Sorry if I did.
Have a nice weekend all6 -

Well, it was my phone. I forgot to charge my watch and it didn't have enough juice left for running.3 -
Thanks @TheMrWobbly . I hope your run goes well today and that your significant other starts feeling better soon.
Oh no @Laurz9191 ! I hope it isn't serious and a little rest is all it needs - maybe some stretching, ice, heat?
@tarun_yadavA Sounds like you had a great night out and glad you ate too much so that you couldn't "drink" too much. Great job on the run today! That food looks amazing. And, you are probably correct about a lot of the PTs, realtors, etc. I hope not all.

chris_in_cal wrote: »They’re ASICS GT-2000 12.
I started in Asics Cumulus, but then they changed something and they stopped working for me. As I like plenty of cushioning for road running, I was handed a pair of Brooks Glycerine in the shop and they were like walking on clouds but out of my price range. I ended up in Adidas Solar Glide, which I still use in rotation with Hoka Bondis for road.4 -

Oh so sorry @Laurz9191! You've really been killing it. Hope a few days of rest fixes you right up!
I walked out the door this morning for my run, and it started raining at exactly that moment! I turned around and went to the treadmill. Did 7 miles, but forgot to start my watch until the end of mile 1. Doh!
9 -
Great running everyone! Rest day for me today but I'm planning on a longish run in the morning.
@tarun_yadavA - the video of that food had my mouth watering! Glad you had good night out on the town.
@laurz9191 - Hope the calf muscle relaxes and it isn't the sign of an injury. Have you been getting enough electrolytes in? You've been training hard and maybe they are just out of balance. Hopefully, some foam rolling and massaging will help.

I walked a mile this morning - to and from my "new" neighbors. They aren't actually moving here for a few years, so when they are here, I try to see them for a few minutes. The wife of the couple and I went for a stroll around their property to see the work they did this week while they were here. I'm very lucky that they are sweet people.
This afternoon, I drove to a nearby town for our first tennis league match of the year. I played with a lady I had never met before. She was very nice, but it is hard to play with someone new. We were slow to get going and lost the first set 0-6. But, we were getting better and were ahead at one point in the second match, but wound up losing it 7-5. It was fun and beautiful weather for it.

That is a great photo @AlphaHowls
Do you have a physio @Laurz9191 ? Hopefully a rest day can ease things
Agree on the PTs @tarun_yadavA , my physio is now also my PT. If he breaks something he has to fix it 🙂
Good run yesterday apart from a blip with the watch. 17.6 in total. Very slow, very flat, very happy
It looks like rain, followed by rain today. Maybe I needed a rest day anyway!

Morning all
Got in 11 miles (at 09"50), to mark 11 weeks.
Not having a good weekend food wise though.
So there's this brand of chocolate"Yorkie". And they do a Raisin-Biscuit one. Anyways, they announced they're no longer gonna do that chocolate anymore. (side note- Biscuit is not the Biscuit you guys call it in the US. We call cookies biscuits (as well as cookies)).
So whilst grocery shopping in Tesco... Saw this bad boy
Got finished in one go. I ate 2/3 of it. Wife had a few break-off bits. Teen doesn't really have much of a sweet tooth, save for ice-cream. 9year old took a bite and remembered he hates raisins.
Not been a healthy weekend despite the running
@quilteryoyo great tennis to go from 6 love to win 5 in the next set and force it close! As you said - maybe cos she's new and you've not played together before.
@TheMrWobbly great running mate!
@Teresa502 thank you! It was dee-lish 🤤9 -
It was a most enjoyable race. This is the first race of the year for the people in this area and it seemed as if everyone was "up" for the race and out to have a good time. Overall I came in 157th of 165 finishers and 4th out of 5 of the 70+ men. It wasn't my best time, but a lot of fun.
The next 5K for me is April 7. It is the day before this area's solar eclipse of the sun. It is a one-time race to commemorate the eclipse and is held at the lakefront park. My running partner, P, is running this race. She hasn't been running due to an injury.
3/1 - 1.11 Miles. Lakefront park. 42F, Sunny, Chilly breeze.
3/3 - 3.25 Miles. Lakefront park. 44F, Cloudy.
3/4 - 2.21 Miles. Neighborhood. 59F, Sunny, Spring-like.
3/6 - 1.2 Miles. Lakefront park. 51F, Misty rain.
3/10 - 1.36 Miles. Neighborhood. 26F, Cloudy.
3/12 - 3.13 Miles. Lakefront Park 51F Sunny. Nice day.
3/13 - 3.08 Miles. Lakefront Park 68F Sunny, Warm.
3/14 - 3.24 Miles. Lakefront Park 55F, Sunny. Tough.
3/16 - 3.1 Miles. St. Patrick's 5K, 44F, Sunny.8 -
@martaindale thank you for saying that there’s no shame in dropping down to the lower training group. I think I needed to hear that. I’ve decided to do just that. I want to enjoy the runs and not stress or get injured.
@TheMrWobbly thanks for the support and great 17-miler by the way! 👍🏻
@Teresa502 thanks for your input. I sometimes battle between getting the workout /run done versus listening to my body. I’ve gotten much better with listening to my body. I didn’t realize at the time of my PT session that what she had me do was too strenuous until later when the aches started. At the time I thought it went well.
@tarun_yadavA this trainer is still young to training and learning (even though she has some certifications). She’s just used to working with younger people. Over time I’ve been letting her know what’s been a bit much for me and she always adjusts.
It’s true that there are some in it for the money, but all the ones I’ve worked with have had a genuine interest in helping me. This young girl has solved all the other pains, like my knee pain is gone with her helping me strengthen the right muscles and the same with my right hip and lower back. All that has greatly improved. She’s a trainer at our local YMCA, so she doesn’t get paid nearly as much as a true private trainer.
As far as the overweight ladies, that can’t be put on a trainer. Trainir can’t control what food and how much the ladies put into their mouths. No amount of training helps if the individual doesn’t improve their diet and lower their calorie intake on their own.
Thanks to all who “hugged” and sent messages of support. You all are really helpful and supportive!
Did 4.83 miles with the running group this morning at a 15 minute pace.

Hi everyone!
Great run @TheMrWobbly !!!
@tarun_yadavA I have to agree with your son on the raisins in chocolate . Now peanuts and almonds with chocolate are a different thing. I’ve had too many of those over this weekend through not being able to run stress eating .
@daria0919 I agree with the others! You should change your training plan so it suits you. It should be fun and doable .
@Teresa502 I don’t think electrolytes caused my injury. I had just eaten breakfast. I’m thinking though that maybe doing strength training directly after finishing a tempo run on Friday might have not been a good idea.
Update about my injury in the spoiler. After I realised my calf wouldn’t let me run at all yesterday, we actually had some friends over who are PTs. They took a look at my leg and taped it. My right calf is definitely swollen and painful to the touch in certain areas. Basically I can’t run until it heals. I can’t even walk down stairs without limping. Optimistically, it could heal in a couple of weeks, so, starting tomorrow I am going to go full cross training mode to try to keep my current fitness level. I can cycle and do aqua jogging (although I’ve never done it before), and I’ll see if rowing works as well. I am also supposed to do strength work to build up the muscles in the affected area.
I am trying to be as optimistic as possible that I’ll be able to race, but, if it doesn’t heal in time, there’s nothing I can do about it. Part of the fun of racing for me is definitely the training, so even if I’m sad that the race might not happen, I’ve really enjoyed getting to this point to begin with. And, luckily, there are always plenty of races that can be signed up for if I can’t do this one.9 -
Here for my second Monthly challenge of the year.
Goal 85 miles:
3/1 - 2.82 miles
3/2 ‐ 12.01 miles
3/3 - Rest Day
3/4 - 3.02
3/5 - skipped run (stormy/rainy morning)
3/6 - strength training / planned rest day from running
3/7 - 3.47 - interval run.
3/8 - skipped run - my legs were burned out after strength training followed by interval run 🙁
3/9 - 3.28 miles - the run I was supposed to do on Friday
3/10 - 11 miles - was supposed to be 14 but ran with a new running friend and went faster than I had planned - ended early so that I didn’t completely burn myself out for the upcoming week. Felt good to be at a “faster” pace for a longer run - feel like there is hope for me to build back to where I was a year ago
3/11 - rest day
3/12 - 3.80 miles - easy run
3/13 - 3.58 miles - easy run
3/14 - rest day
3/15 - skipped run - terrible thunder storming / not mentally strong enough to get on the treadmill
3/16 - 14 miles - kept it slow and easy but it felt good - happy with my progress and building mileage
3/17 - rest day

Need to get my crap together and do a better job of checking in /posting regularly - things have been so busy I have not been taking the time to log/post regularly. I am happy that I have mostly kept up with my running plan - but without accountability - that only gets me so far. I am committing to being here every day to cheer you all on and keep myself accountable to what I have planned to do.

I took a couple of rest days but got out today for 11 miles. It has been rainy all weekend, but it wasn't raining this morning. The temperature was nice at 54°F, but the 99% humidity wasn't too pleasant. I had a pretty good run, but I was sweaty and clammy when I got home.
@dauria0919 I agree with the others. There is no shame in stepping down a level. You want to stay healthy enough to continue running, and it should be enjoyable too. The older I get, the less time I have for things I don't enjoy.
@laurz9191 Sorry that your calf is giving you so much trouble. You have a great attitude though. Hopefully you'll be able to run this race, but if not there will always be another race. Just take care of yourself.
@emptydog. Great job on your race!
@tarun_yadavA I am with your 9 year old. As far as I am concerned, there are two ways to ruin chocolate. Raisins and coconut.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I met a friend at a local state park and we ran 9 miles on the trails early this morning. We got there as soon as the park opened at 8:00 am and had the trails all to ourselves for the entire morning. It was very nice and peaceful. Except for a few people in the campground and the ranger who opened the gate, we didn't see anyone in the park.
Very nice long run @TheMrWobbly! What a beautiful place to run!
Congratulations on your 5K @emptydog!
Yikes @Laurz9191 – I didn’t realize your calf was swollen and painful to the touch. Bravo to you for coming up with cross training plans. I hope the injury heals quickly.
Nice long run yesterday @Leigh_b!
Yesterday was a great day for tennis @quilteryoyo. Today it's been pretty breezy. There are some pickle ball courts behind my work. Friday after work I saw a couple of my friends over there so I stopped to say hello and they had me out there hitting balls. It was quite fun!
Good job hanging in there and going to your running group today @daria0919!
Those “biscuits” look so good @tarun_yadavA.

Long run on the greenway trail this morning. It was very hot, very humid, very gross. I wished I had thought to freeze water in my hydration pack last night. But despite all that, the run went pretty well. I kept the pace easy and stayed on top of the salt tabs. I'll take it easy the rest of the day and drink some water.8 -
Great running @TheMrWobbly . Beautiful place for it too.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . I would be with your 9 year old. I do like raisins by themselves, but not in any food! The texture is just all wrong to me. Great long run today and congrats on an 11 week streak!
@emptydog Glad you enjoyed your race.
@daria0919 Great run this morning. Did you enjoy this group more?
@Laurz9191 Sorry that your injury is as bad as it sounds, but really glad you got professional opinions and are going to give it a rest from running until it heals. I hope you will be able to do your race. Love your attitude if you aren't able to.
@Leigh_b Looks like you are doing great with your plan.
Nice running @kgirlhart . 99% humidity does sound pretty miserable.
Sounds like a nice run today @Teresa502 . I haven't played pickleball yet, but a lot of people I know have and love it. I'm still afraid it will mess up my tennis..plus I really don't have time to add something else on my plate right now.
Sounds like you had a great run today @martaindale . Esp in those conditions. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the day and stayed hydrated.

Good run this morning, conquered the horrible hill with only one walk break. Completed the 8km loop in under 50 minutes and without having to work too hard. Hopefully it means I’m coming right, or it’s a side effect of an indulgent weekend where I ate some pretty spectacular food!
Talking of food, I love raisins and chocolate together (and raisins in anything) but can’t stand peanuts and chocolate together in any way at all.9 -
Good morning everyone!
Got in 3.75M (at 10"42). Took it easy.
@Laurz9191 so sorry that you're out for awhile ☹️
@daria0919 glad to hear that this PT isn't awful. In some ways, I think it's sad that people acknowledge there is a problem, do wanna lose weight and put their time+money into PT sessions thinking it's a silver bullet - however, equally, said PTs knowing that it's not and never quite being transparent about the whole package: diet, calorie deficit, steps etc. no amount of kettle bell swings or Burpees are gonna make anybody slim if they're not logging calories accurately and/or eating right. A lot of PTs know this but just choose to stay silent and bank the cash!
Ok. Rant over.
@Teresa502 haha! Thanks... I like both Biscuits! Lol. But one with breakfast, and one with chocolate chips and nuts... Lol.
RAISINS... 😂
Here we go:
@ContraryMaryMary hmmm 🤔.
No. Would go Peanut M&M over a chocolate coated raisin.
@quilteryoyo opposite of you! Lol. On its own - waste. Coulda been better as a grape or fermented into wine; lol.
Will say this... Chocolate raisins - ok... So so! Nuts and raisins together... Eg Cadburys Fruit+Nut. Yep! Absolutely!
(Agreed with @Laurz9191 entirely... chocolate nut beats chocolate nut+raisin beats chocolate raisin!)
@kgirlhart woah woah lol
I love chocolate and coconut. I love Bounty. (That's 'Almond Joy' translated into American! But Bounty is wayyy better. The chocolate coating on Bounty is nicer than Almond Joy!).
Think there's generally a cocoa:milk:sugar ratio difference between UK,Europe (eg Cadburys Nestle Belgian etc) and America (Hersheys etc). Something changed along the Atlantic. Just tastes wildly different.
Speaking of... Didn't want an unhealthy weekend. Fly off to the States next Thursday. 11 nights. I bet that turns into 11 Lbs after I'm let loose on food and beer! Lol

Good morning everyone,
I survived the first cross training day dripping sweat on the spin bike . I am not sure the elliptical is good for me though at the moment. It's a bit too much like running for my calf.
Tomorrow I was supposed to do my 20 mile run. So, here is what I am thinking- 100km road bike tour instead! I already have the day off and the spin bike didn't seem to bother my leg at all. I did happen to already sign up for the 100km race I did last year a few months ago and wasn't planning to train for it at all, as it is 2 weeks post marathon. Now, it looks like I will be. My plan is to bike the course tomorrow and hopefully get a nice long workout in that will involve a slightly different type of pain than a 20 mile run, but will probably take me a good 3 hours or more. It should be quite an adventure .10
