It got cold on me again. It was 40°F this morning. I wore capri length leggings and a t-shirt with sleeves and gloves. I was pretty chilly starting out, but it was a nice run and I ran 6 miles.
@7lenny7 I hope the foot settles down.

@tarun_yadavA I'm only an hour from Ashville! That sounds like an amazing trip for you and your son.
That's a great price for those shoes @7lenny7 ! No wonder you stocked up. That is some emotional/physical rollercoaster! I'm glad it seems to be better now! You are amazing for pushing through the pain.
Great running @Mari33a !
@Scott6255 I can see how that wind would affect your splits! Great running.
@daria0919 I'm a bit confused. I guess I assumed the lower group was slower? What makes them "lower?" If it is distance, could you go with the other group so you would be with some of the people, but just cut it short? Hang in there. I'm sure you will figure it out.
Great running @kgirlhart .
I'll update tomorrow, hopefully. Today I walked two miles and played doubles indoor tennis tonight for over 2 hours.

@quilteryoyo, yes, lower group simply means less miles covered during the week and a shorter Sunday long run. This coming Sunday the lower group runs 5 miles and the higher group runs 6 miles.

Good morning everyone!
Got in 3.75M (at 09"41). Streak moves to 80!
Wow... So many messages...
@daria0919 DM-ed you. Love the cheesecake factory suggestion, btw! 😊
@7lenny7 thank you! Hope the cortisone works for you.
@AlphaHowls hope you're feeling better today.
@Scott6255 that woulda been cool to meet up! Run through downtown and/or beer!
@chris_in_cal thanks for the kind words!5 -

So, MFP tells me you've daily logged for seven straight years. You seem to be fit, run a lot, have a loving family, have fun, remain optimistic, helpful, encouraging, any correlation? How about a little speech? What's the story?
Congratulations on seven years of consistency, that's remarkable.
@chris_in_cal thanks for the kind words 😊
Think I've done a journey type post here 18M ago before you came... But can write another and spoiler it in another post.
Have a few dull work calls this morning which I need to attend but not really participate in, so will write you later5 -
I was thinking about our little group yesterday. A lot of us have "stories" and there are some amazing ones on here like Alphahowls and Tarun and others with weight loss and maintaining. I ended up being curious about how many on here still log their food daily and use MFP in that way? Personally I lost about 30 pounds in 2017 and now maintain with fluctuations up about 5 and then down again when I get remotivated. I like that this group focuses on the running vs the weight loss aspect of MFP but just curious to see who is actively logging. I know that I do pretty much every day even when I am not as accurate as I was back when I wanted to lose and then again when I need to lose some fluff.
Speaking of running I am up to 76 out of 100 goal for the month. A gorgeous day for running yesterday so I had to do 2 shorter ones with sprints. I like that it got chilly again for a little while. Saves me turning on the AC just yet as I need to change the filter.6 -
March 2 – 7.38 miles
March 3 – 3.02 miles
March 4 – 5.03 miles
March 5 – 5.10 miles
March 11 – 5 miles
March 13 – 5.12 miles
March 14 – 3.20 miles (am) + 2.01 miles (pm - trail)
March 15 – 5.18 miles
March 17 – 9.06 miles (trail)
March 19 – 5.01 miles
March 20 – 5.90 miles (birthday run!)
Total 61.11/100 mile goal
Today is my 59th birthday so I ran 5.90 miles to celebrate and to be thankful that I’m able to get out there and do it. I may be slow but I’m still moving!
@tarun_yadavA – I’m also about an hour from Asheville. No Cheesecake Factory there but they have a lot of BBQ places. As a matter of fact, this past weekend I watched a Food Network show on the restaurants in Asheville and many of them were BBQ places. Your road trip sounds fun and I can see lots of father/son bonding taking place!
Wow @7lenny7 – that was quite an emotional roller coaster journey indeed! I think it ended well though and admire your perseverance!
@SummerSkier – I’m not a daily food logger but I definitely agree that the accountability of it makes a huge difference in any weight loss journey.

Do you think this will raise any suspicion if I'm pulled over by the police or highway patrol on my way to Georgia for my race?
It's my homemade Tailwind mix. Each bag is enough for 1 gallon, and will give me 200 calories for a 500ml bottle.
This mix costs me just 50 cents per serving, vs. $1.50 per serving for Tailwind bought in bulk, or $2.50 per serving for individual Tailwind packets.
For my race in September I hope to also have a homemade gel.
Happy birthday, @Teresa502 ! A fitting run to mark the occasion.
@SummerSkier logging my food on MFP was instrumental in my weight loss 9 years ago. I went from 260 pounds to 203 in less than a year and faithfully logged during that time. I lost weight so quickly that my family was concerned for my health.
Currently I'm back up to 221 and have recently been up to 232 (ugh!) I've tried to get back into the habit of logging my calories because it worked so well in the past but I haven't stuck to it for more than a week at a time. I might start up again after my race. Getting back to near 200 would be great.
6 -
because it worked so well in the past but I haven't stuck to it for more than a week at a time.
It worked super well for me too, and for going on four years now not logging has not worked super well for me. Slow learner? Self defeating behavioralist? Lazy? Undisciplined?
Lashing myself more harshly doesn't seem to flick the switch.
Lastly the voice in my head says "you are whining," and that I should go away and leave you poor people alone. This is some tough business to deal with on the best of days. I appreciate you writing that @7lenny7 . BTW I have Morton's toe too, fortunately mine hasn't ever been too bad. Good luck with the neuromas.9 -

Another 6 miles for me this morning. It wasn't as chilly as yesterday. It was 52°F which I though was just about perfect. I wore shorts and a t-shirt. I did wear my fingerless gloves at the start. I have a little arthritis in my hands, and they tend to hurt when they are cold, but other than that I was the perfect temperature. It has been really dark for my runs since the time change. I miss running as the sun comes up, but it was still a nice run. I love your sunrise pictures @AlphaHowls
Happy Birthday @teresa502!
@SummerSkier I lost 80 pounds between 2015-2016 and have kept it off since then. I keep a 5 pound range and eat a little more when my weight starts to dip and a little less when it starts to rise. But it really stays pretty level most of the time. I still log my food everyday and I also weigh most of my food if I can. I am afraid if I were to get out of the habit of weighing and logging my weight would start to creep up. And honestly, I don't mind or find it tedious. I guess it is kind of a control thing for me.

-
@7lenny7 Oh yeah, I agree with @AlphaHowls!! But as long as you don't do anything that would prompt you to be pulled over, you SHOULD be fine
Happy Birthday @Teresa502 🎉🎂🎈 YOUNG lady!! I wish I was still in my 50s!
@SummerSkier I started logging June 2017, and that is what helped me lose my excess 20 pounds I was carrying around. I am currently on a streak of 2480 days in a row (almost 7 years). But my weight has creeped up about 10 pounds over the past year or so. Not quite sure why...calories are about the same as always, and running is more than ever.7 -
PS: @7lenny7 - hahaha. Nope. Not suspicious at all.tarun_yadavA wrote: »chris_in_cal wrote: »tarun_yadavA wrote: »

So I continue to log. Religiously. Have a 7year streak here... And as lovely as you all are... It's not for logging in daily on here just to talk mileage 😂
Too hardwired into the routine now. And it works for me!
@chris_in_cal started weight loss journey in 2016. Started off at around 265 lbs... And in 12M, got it to under 200 lbs. Heavyweight to Cruiserweight!(7year streak on here midway through that year of weight loss ... Needed to be more accurate and scientific with logging calories!)
I wasn't always fat. Probably from 19/20 - 36.
In school I was fine. Pretty athletic till around 16-17. Then discovered alcohol and parties, so the working out ceased. By the time I was 19 ish, finishing first year of university - I was partying hard and got chubbier.
Met wife in final year... She's always been a petit thing. Once we got married and had kids, the whole it's forever thing... Gradually put on more and more weight till I hit 265 lbs. Aged 36.
Decided enough was enough.
Made it a point to wake up early everyday , did half an hour elliptical at the gym, work - then walked home 3.5miles from work. Wife would pack me a salad for work ; and Id have 'healthy' food for dinner.
Then gradually got more and more scientific with approach (using this app).
So ~70 lbs shed in 12 months. 30-45 min early am sessions in the gym; healthy eating and something like 8000-10000 steps daily.
Continued with that.
Gyms closed during COVID and associated lockdowns. Fork in the road. So took to outdoor running. Gradually got better and better at it.
To the point, only just missed out on a sub-4hr marathon at first attempt last Feb.
Currently, (as a 6ft1 nearly 44yr old man), walk at around 180 lbs. (Waist size 34" jeans).
Always seem to be trying to lose 5-8 lbs.
More to do with enjoying myself on regular vacations and plain, enjoying myself when I go out.
Ideally, like to be 175 lbs. I was 175 lbs last March. And I think that was my best running. Ran marathon mid-Feb; so recovered and eased back into running.
Set myself a target of 31 consecutive runs for March 2023, ahead of a Florida and Caribbean cruise vacay... And that was some of my best running. Ran 31/31, racked up 172 miles... And 28 or 29 of those 31 were all sub 09"00 mile pace. (Social life wise... Just checked Google timeline highlights... Went out for wife's bday couple of times , nothing too heavy, and just 1 well behaved guys night... No enforced Dry months or anything like that).
So 175 lbs and top quality running is the goal.
Yes. I do enjoy myself when I go out . I try to limit it to twice a month tops. I enjoy my guys nights drinking copious amounts of beer... And eating cr-p with it... Nachos, buffalo wings etc etc.
Otherwise 28/30 days a month, live teetotal and near vegan - like a hermit Buddhist monk! Lol.
So that's the backstory!8 -
Happy 59th @Teresa502 !4

Well, not sure what to make of that: Three different types of runs, each time the same average pace Certainly no running tomorrow. Need a rest. For some reason my legs are super weak at the moment, but at least lungs play along.5 -
@7lenny7 I know what you mean with the tush hurting, although for me it was a different but surely equally unpleasant spot . But seriously, I always run in the forest/nature/ away from cars and people and while I like riding fast to get my heart rate up (that’s been a challenge to do cross training), riding on the road with cars and trucks can be a bit unnerving. German drivers are required to pass cyclists with a 1.5 meter gap, but I always worry I won’t be seen on windy roads or that the driver is not paying attention. I also needed to bake a requested Super Mario Bros themed birthday cake before picking up my kids and if I would have biked any further I would have had to go the full distance (no train to bail with) and wouldn’t have had enough time to bake. Also, I didn’t bring enough snacks with me and didn’t want to spend the last 2 hours hungry with numb toes 😅.
So lots of excuses there! If I still can’t run next week though I’ll definitely go on another bike tour. I am reaaaaaalllllllyyy missing the hard exercise that is running!!
This morning I went on the elliptical for an hour to see how my leg reacted. I set it to mostly work my glutes. And did 60 minutes. I might go to the doctor’s tomorrow so I can get a prescription for some PT. I don’t know if there’s anything that can really be done to help other than not running, but I’m willing to try. My calf is still very tight and stiff but no longer hurts walking down stairs.
Keep up the good running everyone! I hope to be joining you again soon!!!!9 -

I read your first MFP post from a million years ago, where you were calling out wings and beer. Apparently that is not the issue, as you're still indulging, but you have taken care of the galaxy of things around them. Again, your doing something right, I'm inspired, thanks for showing up around here.
To another seven years, and getting a deep understanding of why 175 lbs. is elusive.

@SummerSkier About the food logging…. I must admit I go through long periods without doing it. I cook stuff with so many ingredients (mostly healthy- and generally whatever happens to be in the fridge- that logging just is sometimes too time consuming. If I see the scale shoot up though I will be back at it. I do really try to do intuitive eating and listen to my fullness cues and try to get enough protein in with all my meals (and try to stay away from bread as much as possible). I am impressed by how most of you stick with it!
I do find logging exercise very important for accountability though! So I am very happy to be on MFP.
I guess my story is similar to @tarun_yadavA ’s. I just decided one day enough is enough -either I do something about being 185lbs and not really happy in my own skin or gain even more not doing anything about it. I’ve always loved running, but it was the combination of running, logging, and really paying attention to what I was eating that helped me lose it. Now I am mostly happy at around 155lbs but there is a voice in my head that says I could be a better runner if I weighed a good 10lbs less. However, I don’t know if I can commit to what it would take to lose more and until I can, the weight is not just going to fall of. But yeah, I’m ok with the status quo for the moment.
@7lenny7 May I ask what is in your “special” mix? I also wouldn’t advise making any traffic violations .4 -
@SummerSkier I’m currently a “work in progress” as far as weight loss. I started using MFP regularly in late August of last year exactly for the purpose of recording into the food diary to keep track of calories. I use it every day. Found you guys beginning of October last year and you guys gave me the “running bug” back.
I’ve lost about 13 pounds so far (in about 7 months). Slow going because it seems I have to eat about 800-900 calories to lose any weight and I can’t sustain that along with the number of miles I put in per week. Plus, vacations and trips away seem to derail me because I tend to give up on dieting when I’m eating restaurant food since I want to enjoy myself.
I’m sure you all know at this point (since I’ve mentioned it a few times) that I stress ate all the years my son battled cancer and that’s the weight I’m trying to work off now.
I’m trying to lose 20 more and would be happy with that. Good thing is my HR is low, BP is fine and A1C is fine and so is cholesterol ratio, so it’s been a bit difficult to keep convincing myself that I need to lose more weight. But, I’m going to keep at it at a 🐢🐢🐢 pace.6 -
@7lenny7 May I ask what is in your “special” mix? I also wouldn’t advise making any traffic violations .
@Laurz9191 My recipe (in the spoiler below) came from this site:
https://runographer.com/2015/12/homemade-sports-drink-for-the-ultimate-diy-running-nutrition/
Here's another discussion of this recipe:
https://www.blogbyben.com/2020/10/my-take-on-homemade-tailwind.html
I adjusted the amounts so that I could make up a gallon at a time, which gives me just over seven 500ml bottles worth, at 200 calories per bottle. Important point - you can't just add it to a full gallon of water or it will overflow. You'd think that'd obvious but apparently it wasn't the first time I tried it.... Anyway, I start with a half full gallon jug, add a batch of my Tailwind copycat, shake well, then fill nearly the rest of the way up. I leave more air in the jug than it started with so it's easier to shake and dissolve the powder. Once that's done, I add the flavor, which is usually "True Lemon" or True Lime" flavor packets from Amazon. The top one is for a gallon of mix, the bottom is for a single 500ml bottle. Once I mix it up, I seal it with a vacuum sealer but WITHOUT using the vacuum function. That'd be a nasty mess.Dextrose is also called corn sugar and can be bought from any brewing supply store. Amazon is a decent source for dextrose and maltodextrin, as is bulkfoods.com

Welcome @Andysanch11! Nice running streak.
Got in 6 miles today. Was about 10F warmer than yesterday, but I took it easier today and didn't feel like I was gonna die at the end 😏
10 -
A work crisis kept me from my run yesterday so I switched it with my rest day today and ran 10 miles and a very nice pace. I tried not to think about all the deadlines I have at work and the impending *kitten* hitting the fan when I can't make some of them. Some times...ok many times...I think I'd be better off if my client just fired me. I know I'd be happier. I do enjoy my work but not when I get projects stacked on projects with crazy aggressive deadlines. My plan is to be cutting back on hours, not increasing. Oh well.
Welcome, @Andysanch11 !
9 -
I'm way behind on the posts and don't have time to comment on everyone tonight, but am skimming and will comment some.
@Teresa502 Happy Happy Birthday!!! You had a great run. I hope you had a great day too!
I logged my food when I first started on MFP and it did help me to lose 50 pounds. I have slacked a lot and rarely log now. It's hard when I'm not cooking my own food and eating out a lot - which has been happening a lot lately! Too much. I am trying to start logging again because I have gained about 15 pounds of that back. The good news is that I have maintained at that higher weight for a couple of years, but would really like to get back to 135-140 pounds. I'm at around 152 pounds at the moment.
Hahaha @7lenny7 . I think you need to carry a list of ingredients and a smaller sample bag for the police. That could land you in all sorts of trouble. Sorry your work is so stressful right now. I hate to have unreasonable deadlines. Hang in there.
Love the before and after pictures @tarun_yadavA .
@Laurz9191 You did great with the cake theme! I hope you can get some PT that will speed up your recovery.
Welcome @Andysanch11 ! Great streak. This is a great group you have found.
Today I did a 2.25 miles wun on the driveway early. It was 37F (2.8C) and sunny. I just wore some old warm ups I had and it felt good. Glad I got it done before heading out for the day - work at daycare for 3.5 hours and visit with my niece before she has her third little girl - tomorrow.
8 -
Another great run for me this morning. I’m so happy to have gotten to the root of my problem - who knew mechanics played such a vital role in rate of perceived effort? Now just to put a bit more effort in to get a new PB on my loop.8
