MFP Weekly Check-in March 18, 2024
Sue in WA State - Did my yoga 7/7 times this week, strength and balance 5/5 and made it to water exercise twice. I was able to do two 5 minute walks but sinus infection is making that hard. I need to divorce food from emotion. Thinking about doing some journaling to help with that. I journaled in the past but have not done much since moving to WA.
Kylia in Ohio - I haven't posted as was out of town, then ill. I lost .7 pounds at beginning of March and so far maintaining. Only 11 more to go! Just treading along trying to make the best decisions I can in the moment.
Rita in Roswell NM - I’m up .3 of a pound this week. Did not walk as much as I should. I’ll blame it on the weather, but it was just my mood.
Evelyn on Vancouver Island BC - This has not been a good week, I have made some poor food choices and while that may not have been the worst thing to happen, I have also overindulged in these poor choices. Also, if sitting is the new smoking, I'm up to a couple packs a day! Needless to say, my weight is up this week. Some of the poor choices were on the salty side, so I shall be trying to up my water intake and down my sugar intake and see what happens! Oh and try to be more active!
Lanette in SW WA State- Celebrating weight staying at lower end of my desired range and sore foot/toes are showing improvement. Navigating diet to eliminate or at least cut way back on simple sugars and “white carbs” – rice, white flour products/breads, potatoes. Goal is to get FBS under 110 or closer to 100. Need to turn that A1C around, it’s heading the wrong direction.

April - I'm so pleased to hear that your son's awake! Pleased, too, that the blood work was good. Glad they're going through with the tests to follow up on the heart.
Heather - Take the advice and go to a real doctor. Your health and movement are the key to all the rest. John would rather have you healthy and happy than go on a cruise any day.
I was walking around the side of the house, checking on a large dog that came running through the yard, and ran into this.
In order: Walked around to the side and saw that stump sticking up. Looked at it again, and realized it was almost exactly centered on that end of the house - had this tree not slid down as it was falling, instead of breaking off clean, it wouldn't have slanted its fall so it missed the house by a couple of inches. The last picture is looking back toward the path of its fall.
We got lucky on this one...
I heard only a bump a couple of hours ago, about the same loudness as Egg pushing something off a shelf, and even walked back to that bedroom to see if she had broken something. I never looked out the window though!
I wonder if Egg pushed it over! 😀👀😈😍
Still saying "Wow."

Thank you Annie 🤗 And good luck on hitting your weight loss goal in July. You got this!
Lisa - I would love to see your raised garden bed when it's done. I'm always looking for inspiration to use in my own garden.
Kim - Thanks for the tip on using hardware cloth in raised beds. I live out in the country in the woods, so we have a lot of moles and gophers we have to deal with. I'm writing that tip down so I don't forget! 📝
Lanette - I still have a Randy McNally Road Atlas! I do use GPS on my phone quite often, but when my husband and I are traveling and we lose signal, we always have that book of maps to fall back on.
Allie - Sorry to hear about Alfie. Hope the treatment works well for him.
I'm participating in a challenge this week, to avoid LNS. I don't really have a problem with snacking, but I do tend to eat a late supper. (Around 7pm to 8pm) So I'm off to make something to eat, so I can cut off eating or drinking after 6pm. I don't think I'll have a problem with no eating, but I do enjoy my evening cup of coffee. ☕🥺

No Easter plans here, but then, I didn't grow up with Easter celebrations. I remember a couple Easter events, but usually only because a grandparent was coming. Mama wasn't the type to hide an Easter egg, but I do have memories of dying Easter eggs, possibly for some school function or another.
Haven't quite gotten out in front of the pain this morning, but hoping to soon... Have been able to get my hourly walks inside the house--too cold to work outside this morning.
FedEx brought the genie bras I ordered last week already. Finally, something that fits. I've tried the odd-brand ones, but they clutch me in such weird ways that I honestly was wondering if I was having a heart attack with one of them. I have enough issues - don't need weird-fitting bras gumming up the works! I've had Genie bras that lasted ten years or more, so I decided to go see if I could find them, Walmart had them for $9.99 for three, and they fit!
Am starting the move online with my planner - I do get tired of hauling one around all the time, and my fingers, which don't hurt at all when I'm typing, start hurting within moments when I'm clutching a pen or pencil. I'll eventually figure it all out.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR
I'm not sure I could have made it through the past 6 years without Google calendar accessible wherever I am!

Lisa - That really is WOW! Amazing luck!
The wheels of the NHS grind extremely slow. To see the hospital doctor is a minimum of 21 weeks after referral. I am feeling so low about that, that I really am coming around to private treatment. It would take all my savings and it is against my principles. But I do not want to waste away in misery.
Allie - So sorry about the Lymes. <3
April - Wonderful news!

April: Wonderful news about your son!
Lisa: I looked up the Genie Bras and see the 3 for 9.99. I plan to place an order this evening. Thanks for the tip!
MargaretTurk: We used Car Max several times to sell vehicles. We have had a situation when their offer was 1k higher than the dealer offer.
Heather: I read a book on Catherine the Great. And then by co-incidence The University of Georgia had an exhibition of some of the art she owned and her jewelry. They paired this with a concert with music from her era. Then there was a cocktail hour we attended. The people at the cocktail hour were very friendly. We had a nice time. However their hobby was going to Europe to purchase art. My husband and I were never sure if that cocktail party was really open to the public like we thought. Maybe we crashed it! We weren't sure!
Joy: The walk with the dogs sounds like fun..for you and them!
Beth: The St Patrick's day brownies sound delicious!
Rori: Have fun at Madonna's concert. I liked Cyndi Lauper back in the day. I did get to a Cyndi Lauper concert!
Sunny here today, but expected to go close to freezing tonight. I have petunias I purchased as Lowe's sitting on my dining room table. I guess they will stay there over night. I have weeds in the grass and need to think about what product to buy to eliminate those. I hate putting chemicals on the grass because my son visits with his Dogs.
Lanette: I didn't want to do what the young people sometimes do and "ghost" my friend. I knew she knew there were increasing difficulties with the friendship, so I don't think this was a sudden surprise. I asked for distance in the friendship...because I know i will see her again...small town, mutual friends. i have told a couple of people the decision was mutual. I have said nothing of the details of relationship.
One occurrence I will mention occurred around Valentine's Day. She asked me several times to go to a concert with her on Valentine's Day evening. She is a close friend and I responded several times that the day was special to me and I probably wouldn't make it through the evening. So I declined to go to the concert. Recall this is my first Valentine's as a widow. I have read enough widow and grief literature to understand I probably should have deferred by saying I had other plans that evening. Well the conversation, by text, quickly deteriorated into something you would read in a grief book. She texted me about going out on anniversaries and holidays and said horrible things about grief that no widow should ever read/hear. I have had an okay year. I have not talked with her about grief or loss. I have not been a needy person. She just felt she had advice to give on how a widow should spend holidays, birthdays anniversaries and so forth. The books say your closest friends and relatives can be the hardest to deal with. And this turned out to be true. I was glad i had read some books so I wasn't completely shocked by what she said.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Tracey- no, mom still hasn't told her to leave. I guess she came real close to it the other night but didn't.
She knows she needs to. She just hates confrontation. We are gently pushing.3 -
April, so happy to hear that your son is awake.
Allie, sorry to hear about your doggie. Hopefully with the meds he will make a full recovery. Good that you took him to the vet.
Went grocery shopping this morning and picked up 3 small sour cabbage heads. Plan is to make my cabbage rolls for Easter later this week and then freeze them. Easter is slowly coming together. Got Miss Lucy booked in for her much needed groom March 26th.

Heather - From someone who's dealt with pain more in the last few years than in my whole life combined, I've finally begun to truly understand why those who are tortured will say anything, do anything to make it stop. You just have to decide what's most important.
Cor's making dinner, smells wonderful... I'm still not ahead of my own pain, so ensconced in my chair with my feet up. Pleased that I got through 25 minutes of yoga+, as well as 13 minutes on the elliptical. Talked to my best friend, who is not going to make it up here for the elliptical (thank goodness!) and my daughter, whose daughter's 9th birthday is tomorrow. This is a pic from 9 years ago, and some of y'all may remember this one...
I always thought she was looking at me like she wasn't quite too sure what to think. She still does on occasion. Very bright little soul, who I miss terribly.
Later y'all,
Love,

Oh and forgot to add,
Rosemarie - glad the heads-up on the Genie bras was a good buy for you too, good bras are hard to find these days! And I meant to say how pleased I am for you that you stood up for yourself with the "friend" who was pushing you so hard. Southern women, in particular, are raised to believe that everyone has to love us, and realizing that you deserve different behavior from someone isn't always easy to hold onto. I'm proud of you. You deserve better than she was able to give.3 -
Pip-hope you can enjoy trip even with the cold.
Kylia-sounds like weekend was what you needed.
Annie-nice for you to know your Dad's driving isn't bad. He may get lost but not in a wreck!
Heather-I hope you can get a formal medical opinion before cancelling everything. You need to do what is best for you. I hope John isn't getting fearful that he may be in a situation similar to his last relationship.
Tracey-you baked more loaves over the weekend than I have in my life!
April-outstanding news about your son!
Lisa-definitely lucky with the tree. That could have been really bad,
Allie-sorry to hear about Alfie and lymes, Curious as to whether you have been tested for it? It often shows up several weeks past pet being bit by tick, Often the tick can be shared by human. You have been feeling tired, etc, for several weeks.
Rosemarie-good for you for letting go of a toxic person. There is no guide book for being a widow, We feel what we feel. If you were locking yourself in your house for months at a time, that may be reason for concern, but wanting to pass on Valentines day (especially first one)-not strange at all.
Well, made it through work today. With he snow and the cold I could have stayed under the covers! Day went well. Had a couple of meetings, caught up on paperwork. Take care to shop in morning for 30,000 mile check. No clue what that will cost. However, I plan to keep up with recommended items. I want to take care of this car. Will work from home after that (my scheduled day), then clock off around 3:15 to get massage.
Need to get trash to the curb and put blankets I washed last night into dryer. Will put last of blankets in washer tonight. Then I am going to do that task foreign to several of you-the ironing!
Take care all,
