Morning ladies
Dan called me at 7 and his car wouldn't start,so I had to take him to work, and will pick him up.. but he has to make the call to the garage and Triple A to get the car towed..
Need to go and pick up Doris..4 -
Heather - I'm glad you got past your principles to the point where you could make that call. I like the idea that he says he also works intensively with non-surgical remedies like viscosupplementation, which apparently are good possibilities for hips - I had that done for my knees decades back, and it did wonders for pain. It's not permanent, it just supplies the slidy liquid that disappears as we age, but it helped me for six to eight months at a time.
Don't mean to poo-poo principles in the slightest - but I don't think that your ability to see a private doctor prevents anyone else from being able to see an orthopedic doctor in the NHS. I think it removes you from the NHS queue, giving someone else a chance to get seen that might not otherwise be able to do so..
Machka - Corey's getting seen for his left eye today (made his own appointment and everything) as it's been weeping for months, long before allergy season began. It was so irritated yesterday that his eye was bright red, and he said it felt bruised. Pleased he's getting seen, but wish it didn't take so long for him to decide to do it.
Tracey - Looked to see what the cost would be if I just picked up the Genie bras and sent them to you, and all the shipping prices to Canada are so prohibitive it's just crazy. It is cheaper for me to mail things to Hawaii, halfway around the world. Borders are just so stupid. Don't get me started. You do look like you're having fun with your granddaughter. She gets very intent on what she's doing. Is Rodger doing any better in terms of his depression now that there are some sunny days, or is he still struggling?
Lanette - This is the first time I've actually measured for a bra, but it seemed like a good idea after the ones that made me feel like I was having a heart attack. Seriously, like electric shocks running all through my body from the breastbone up. Weird as all get-out. Anyway, the measurements on their "sizing guide," are dead on as far as fit for me. Glad to see you paying attention to the pre-diabetes diagnosis. It's very much part of what drove me to have the gastric bypass nearly 20 years ago now. My mother's diagnosis of diabetes at 60 years old, when she had already had three heart attacks by then, stayed in my mind.
More in a minute kiddos, need to get a couple things done before Corey's good morning call around 8 a.m.
Love,
Lisa in AR

Regarding my eyes ... I have had issues with them for years. At first it was just occasionally when they felt sore, itchy and a bit sandy. I figured the building was dusty and used drops now and then.
Then, they started feeling that way more regularly. I even half jokingly mentioned it to my husband's ophthalmologist when he told my husband to hold a hot wash cloth to his eyes any time they bothered him. That was in 2019. I've done the wash cloth trick now and then.
Some time in there, I discovered I sleep with my eyes open so I started using an eye mask at night. That eased the sharp gravely feeling I was getting in the morning.
But I figured that everyone had gravely eyes ... especially when we spent time in front of the computer so I never mentioned it to my optometrist until this time when I mentioned the double vision.
Excessively dry eyes and double vision are connected.
Hopefully I will start seeing improvements.
I used the warm mask for 10 minutes tonight while playing my tinnitus music. Very nice.

Victoria's Secret used to measure for bras but it was always disappointing for me. Their bras are too wide in the shoulder for me, so the straps always fell off. The ones I wear now come from Amazon. Warner's women's cloud nine super soft wireless lightly lined. I'm happy that they fit well and wash well. I read a lot before I bought one to try, and it worked!
I went back to bed for an hour and then treated myself to a cafe mocha latte. Time to get going now!

A local meteorologist, Liz Meadows, who reports the weather on TV came to talk to the third grade class where I volunteer. I suggested to Tania last year it might be interesting to the students to have a news meteorologist come to show them why they studied the weather. Tania contacted the station this year. I enjoyed it. The students had many interesting and on point questions for her. She was lovely inside and out. She showed us her storm chasing vehicle too!
I learned it is the ice rubbing together in the upper atmosphere that creates enough energy to create lightning. Updrafts mixing with wind is what creates the possibility of tornadoes. She also reminded them to stay safe during bad weather.
Continuing my diet of no gluten and less sugar. More veggies, filtered water, fruit instead of juice. Now at 168 in the morning...
Taxes done yesterday. Unfortunately DH did not get the right withholding in place. I had a bit of a sticker shock. Told Hilda the person who helps with my taxes now I know why we were able to save so well last year. Fortunately I will use that money to pay the taxes. If I get a penalty Hilda said she will send in a form explaining about DH illness and death.
Part of the morning was making sure withholding and the right amount of taxes will be paid this coming year! I got the right help on the line, and it is done!

Allie ... I was thinking the same thing as Ginny. Have you considered being tested for Lymes? While you can't get Lyme's from a dog, the dog could have brought in a carrier tick which could make you sick. You've been so very tired ...
Heather ... glad to see you're moving forward with an orthopedic surgeon.
April ... great news about your son! Continued prayers for a complete recovery.
Rosemarie ... so sorry your friend could not have been supportive in your grief.
Pip ... ouch on the burn! Woohoo on the new RV!
Snowing here near Buffalo! Blech!

April!! CONGRATS on your son coming out of the coma!
HeatherALANON is for people who have/had alcoholics in their life. I was brought up in an alcoholic house, my 2 brothers are alcoholics, my daughter and her husband are alcoholics and so are my son and husband… So I think I qualify. I have been 8 months without any alcohol and are on the ledge about whether or not I was/am an alcoholic. I do know that I don’t crave it and when my DH drinks, I have no problem refusing any. If he wasn’t around, I would have wine with a meal or before bed, but as it is, he has one then doesn’t stop.

Lisa - I would love to see your raised garden bed when it's done. I'm always looking for inspiration to use in my own garden.
Kim - Thanks for the tip on using hardware cloth in raised beds. I live out in the country in the woods, so we have a lot of moles and gophers we have to deal with. I'm writing that tip down so I don't forget! 📝
Lanette - I still have a Randy McNally Road Atlas! I do use GPS on my phone quite often, but when my husband and I are traveling and we lose signal, we always have that book of maps to fall back on.
Allie - Sorry to hear about Alfie. Hope the treatment works well for him.
I'm participating in a challenge this week, to avoid LNS. I don't really have a problem with snacking, but I do tend to eat a late supper. (Around 7pm to 8pm) So I'm off to make something to eat, so I can cut off eating or drinking after 6pm. I don't think I'll have a problem with no eating, but I do enjoy my evening cup of coffee. ☕🥺

I too have a Rand McNally atlas in my car. When we were traveling, I would use the phone GPS to find where 200 miles ended and then took the atlas and mapped out the drive there in order to get an idea of the topology and in case the GPS signal was lost. I liked doing it that was. I would GPS my final destination then broke it off in 200 mile drives (our daily limit) and search for a place to stay with the camper at that point. I could change the path (re-calculate as the GPS would say) and take the scenic route if we wanted to. The GPS would ‘recalculate’ the directions from where we were to where we wanted to go. Helped me map out a scenic route instead of only highways.

Margaret Yay for taxes done, even if it was disappointing. Done is great!
I did my twenty minutes on my bike and fourteen minutes walking. Yay!
And ... Drum roll please...I did some dumbbells! I went through five reps of almost all forty exercises with two pounds each side. Most were fairly easy, crunches and lunges are still killer. And I forgot one stretch. But I'm back on the calisthenics kick! Yay!
Now I need to figure out some sort of schedule. And find something for the off days. It used to be yoga and aerobic walking. Hmmm.

And... I'm back - beautiful sunny but chilly day again in the Arkansas River Valley,
Thank you again to everyone who commented on the refrigerator mural, it was an interesting project to complete. I know that murals are technically on walls or ceilings, but I'm still calling it a mural!
In regard to the fallen tree, I wasn't exaggerating at all when I said it fell two inches from the house - it was completely rotten, broke off in a diagonal break that ran nearly three feet from top to bottom. Essentially that meant that rather than just falling over, it slid down its own trunk about five feet before the biggest part of it hit the ground on the other side of the fence from the house. Then it fell over a section of fence and crushed it--but the combination of the diagonal break and the fence shaped its fall to land just barely past the corner of the house.
On a more personal note, in case I needed a reminder, my Fitbit congratulated me for making my 250 steps for the 9 to 10 hour... and the only thing I did in that hour was go to the bathroom over and over... and my bathroom is only about 10 steps from my chair. That is far too accurate a picture of my mornings of late. If I haven't heard anything today, I'm going to goose the VA pharmacists in the morning regarding approval of Stelara request, and see if I can get that moving. This is exhausting.
I did promise Corey on his good morning call that I would do nothing physical today, so I'm taking a complete rest day. I looked at my Fitbit Dashboard this morning, and it's possible that he's right - I bailed back into the physical exercise a little too far:
That's OK - a day off won't kill me.
Hopefully. 👀😈🤩
Anyway, I already fell down the rabbit hole of getting my autobiography updated this morning, so I may go back to that for the rest of the morning. I haven't written anything about the last four years. Not sure I'm ready yet, possibly because I haven't gotten to my happy ending yet! I might do something crafty that isn't terribly active, like sewing.
Still deciding.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Rita - Yes, that's what I thought. I just wondered why you were talking as if you were the alcoholic. Have you read many books about codependecy? We all do it to some extent. You are such a wonderful person, you are worth a wonderful life. One that runs to the beat of your own drum. Lots of love to you. XOXO

Heather, great news about your private consultation. Hope everything goes well.
Machka, sorry about your eye issues. That must be so irritating. I only have issues a couple of times a year due to seasonal allergies but nothing ongoing. Right now it is snow mold that is triggering things. We need a nice rain to clean things up.
Busy morning but I did go out for my 15 minute brisk walk. I am making it a scheduled priority as determined to be able to walk the 2 mile trek in Newfoundland. The walk is to a dock for a very scenic tour aboard a boat. The alternative is a less scenic boat tour that doesn't require the walk.
Got my cabbage roll filling made and in the fridge for tomorrow morning. Will tackle that after my morning walk.

Apparently five lunges is a lot for my knee. It doesn't hurt much, but I am wearing the knee brace to protect it. It is a lesson I learned the hard way.

Lisa ~ So glad the tree did not hit your house. We have a very tall old maple tree outside my bedroom window and I really worry that it might need to go although it does give wonderful shade in the summer.
By the way, I love the photo of you holding your niece! Your hair was lovely in that photo.
Heather ~ Glad you bit the bullet and made an appointment. Hope it all works for the best.
Rosemarie ~ I think you were wise to distance yourself from the intrusive friend. We have all had times when people we once liked/admired became a negative part of our life.
I know I have kept you all updated on my BIL that my husband was the only one he had to see that he was taken care of. He passed away early Saturday morning at the hospital. My husband finally realized that he had gotten to the point that no matter what tests/procedures etc. they did for him would not improve his quality of life. He agreed to have him taken off life support. That was a very, very difficult decision for him. He will have a graveside service with just my DH and our son's family.

Rosemarie-Gorgeous flowers. I love looking at them, but they sure mess with my allergies.
Rori-Nice to see you pop in. I remember skiing in CO during spring break, which was always in March.
Heather-Bea’s dress is beautiful and she looks great in that color! You and John are gifts to those children.
Annie-Congrats on the weight loss and for your dad putting on pants! Little victories really count when it comes to pants. Glad you don’t have to worry so much about his driving.
I also put extra mugs and beer glasses (we have so many of those) in boxes and store them in case we ever have a gathering…which is unlikely since I’m not a fan of being around lots of people.
Welcome Crystal in Ontario.
Rita-Sorry to hear of your DH memory loss. Hugs.
Allie-I think Kyle leaving before Carmine arrive was better. He seems to be quite the hot head and would only have made it worse for everyone had he stayed. The fact that she showed up means she may be ready to reach out a little bit and isn’t totally closed off. I’m with Tracey-I don’t know how your Tracy puts up with him and his behaviors.
Debbie-Sounds like a nice weekend with your mom.
April-Great news about your son!
Machka-I like to be done eating by 6pm to get at least a 12 hour fast in. I wake up early enough to see the sunrise, most of the time, so I want coffee early and that breaks my fast. I also find I sleep much better if I am finished eating well before I go to sleep.
It also sounds like you and I have a similar eye issue. I also do the warm compress daily (more often when I can).
Lanette-If you finish a book in a day, it likely means it was interesting! I think the author would be fine with that.
Tracey-Galveston is nice. Just don't go in the summer. The population goes through the roof.
I think I'm finally caught up.
I've been eating vegetarian more lately, so just used up some chicken to make chicken molé enchiladas for the mister. I will freeze a couple for his lunch next week. I will use leftover rice to make refrigerator fried rice for me later. I've been watching Jacque Pepin videos lately and he does a lot of "refrigerator" meals. Jamie Oliver does that too. I'm taking inspiration from them. I've sort of lost my enthusiasm for cooking. I like their styles of throwing things together without a recipe. My food doesn't taste quite as good doing it this way, but it's edible and better than anything we get out at restaurants most of the time. I'm hoping to get my mojo back soon with regard to cooking. Maybe new appliances will do it.
