Evening ladies
Ugh not a good day at all..between the bed and the bathroom..
Im hoping to be better in the morning because Im taking Doris to the Dr.
Heather- sorry you have to have the hips done but you'll feel so much better, and onward and upward..
Tracy doesn't have the faith I do.. so I will not worry about something I have no control over..and I'll put it in the good Lords hands.
Kyle has Friday off.so he will be home to watch Miles ,so I won't be watching him..4 -
Lisa-I think discussions to make sure you aren't overlooking things are helpful. It seems at least one person in this group has had experience with most things!
Beth-taking one thing off you list to make is one way to control calories in! And yes, I did find their approach overkill. Also-I would have to move (or have moved) a bathroom vanity, I'm not sure what they would do with the pony wall in the bathroom, and I would have to remove shelves from pantry and this would include the shelved with a door.
Rita-what a bizarre event! I guess I didn't realize panic attacks could come on. out of the blue-I always figured they were tied to an event or trigger. I agree with Kim-I will help shake your DH. Hope you are back to normal today.
Machka-quite a dental journey you have in front of you.
Rosemarie-I guess I am very fortunate to not have to worry about Association fees, Medicare costs and landscaping. I am still on my employer's insurance and when I retire the state system gives me money for an advantage plan. I pay $35.00 per mow and 80 four times a year for lawn treatment.
Tina-that moving around idea is evocative.
Flea-nice patio.
Heather-good news for a plan. In preparation is it possible for you to set up most things on your first floor? I didn't venture any more than the two steps into my house the first several weeks. I had a lift chair I slept in because it was easier to get in and out of than bed. Of course, I live by myself so I planned to handle everything without help. I find planning ahead and setting things up very helpful.
Busy day at work today. Did get call back from second company (just going for egress window quote). The gentleman did tell me they typically run between 6,600 and 7,500 which is consistent with other company. He will be stopping by Thursday. His company has done work for my workplaces I know something of their work.
Didn't sleep overly well last night. Will go in earlier and read and do some meditation and see if that helps tonight.
Take care all,

Tina - The pictures are gorgeous, and no, it's not possible to do these eye-popping colors justice on a computer screen. I don't miss the desert, but I remember the flowers quite fondly.
Laters!

One good thing about living where I do is that within 2 hours in a car, I can be in the high mountains, high desert, low desert, low mountains, or green valleys. 20 minutes in the car, I can be at the ocean.10 -

I hope you feel better soon. I think we're all worried about you. You haven't seemed to have a lot of good days lately.

Machka - thanks! I’ve done that in a few rooms I’ve used as craft-rooms. This one already had the doors removed when we moved in.
Those toilets are in weird locations to me. LOL
I don’t want double sinks either. I would never be getting ready at the same time as DH and if I needed to, I could make it work with scheduling.
That’s a lot of dental work coming up. I don’t envy you.
Kitchens and bathrooms - I really like at least 1-1/2 baths. We lived in one place for almost 20 years that had a half bath on main floor, half bath as ensuite and full bath on upper level. If money were no object I would have his and her baths. My cousin has done that, there are three full baths in her house! I must have a bath, I absolutely hate showers, I feel very claustrophobic in them.
My kitchen is ok, I am not a big cook so the size is just right. I do wish it had more cupboards or a pantry cabinet at least. Right now I also wish it had a working dishwasher!
My grandmother was shorter in stature, she had her cupboards built a bit lower than standard so she could cook comfortably.
Rita - that sounds terrifying! Anxiety I have learned can cause so many health issues. My niece has been having seizures related to anxiety.
Heather - It’s so great that you are going to find something relief. Glad John has come through for you. Will the government health care system cover any of it?
Joy - congratulations on the scale dip, your work is paying off.
Rosemarie - I hope you are able to stay in your home for a long time.
Tina - I would like to have a cleaner come in every once in a while to do baseboards and deep cleaning.
Flea - love your little patio area.
Vicki - I don’t have a proper place to keep the boxes so the albums are a better solution for me. I have 15 boxes and will be ending up with 12 albums.
I have decided to send some off to other family members, and I’ll be scrapbooking with some. I will need to buy more albums, after I print some from the last few years off. I don’t like that they are all on my phone.
Allie - I hope they find some answers to your health soon, it seems like a lot.
Ginny - glad you are getting a second opinion.
Kaitlyn didn’t come today, she was still willing to, but has a job interview in the city tomorrow so will come out after that. Bonus is that she will pick Jonah up on her way out.
So my picture project is still covering my table. 😂

I think you should be going to the doctor. You haven't been well in some time from what you say in your posts.4 -
Tracey - This will be all self-funded. I just can't wait years for the NHS. By cancelling the next cruise, we will have most of the money for the first hip. John paid for all of that cruise, but he is very happy for me to use that money as, in a way, it's already spent. I can find the rest when my savings account matures at the end of May. He will have to lend me it until then.
The second hip, following on a couple of months later, I think I will have to fund myself, from the same savings account. This will nearly clear me out completely, unless we cancel the October cruise, for which we have paid a substantial deposit. After that, I will have not quite enough for next year's one, but John will help with that. Then I'm done. Skint. Brassic. No more cruises.
I still think it's worth it though. I feel as if I don't have a choice. I can't function at all like this, and that makes John scared and miserable. He is proud that he has enough money to be able to help me.
The operation is done on a spinal block, not a general, and they give you a sedative. I don't think you are very aware. You are up the same day, and might be home the next, or the next.
Ginny - I told him about the stairs and he said, No problem. The physios will check you can manage stairs before you leave! However, I can easily get my son to bring a single bed down to the study. There is already a sofa bed, but it's very low. There is a toilet with washbasin on that floor, plus the kitchen sink. A few days of strip washes won't kill me. They say , the more walking the better. I mentioned the 90°rule for bending hips that I saw online, and he said that was old fashioned. I think techniques have hugely improved. The op takes an hour, no external stitches.
I am really keen to get going and excited! I know I will stick to the physio rules afterwards.
My friend L did it, like you, on her own, and it was hard. I remember she was in a lot of pain at times. But now she is going on long hikes! I think it is brave to do it on your own. She had friends coming to stay, and the NHS provided some home help. But there were times when she was overwhelmed with pain and misery. It was complicated by the fact that she had just lost her long term partner from a heart attack/aneurysm, and was in deep grief.
I am lucky to have John, and my son nearby for heavy stuff.
So, onwards and upwards!

If you got one done now, and got private health care, would you be able to use private health care to cover the second one?
The ship might have sailed on that because you know you need the second hip done and insurance policies don't like to cover a person for something existing.
Also, you'd probably have to wait a year before you could use the coverage.
We're thinking of changing private health care organisations but not right in the middle of all this dental work or we'd have nothing covered.

All about exercise!
A sedentary lifestyle may alter cholesterol levels and affect insulin function, bone mass- Researchers report that prolonged inactivity can affect people differently, based on their age.
- They say the effects of a sedentary lifestyle include reduced insulin function as well as the loss of lean muscle and bone mass.
- Experts say it’s important to understand the biology behind these changes so new targeted therapies can be developed.
Plus quite a bit about exercise and dementia.

Heather-I saw protocol changes in the two years between my two hips, I think I was back to driving at the 4 or 5 week mark. Pain levels vary. I remember 2 week of decent pain (appreciated pain meds) then it toned down. Movement afterwards is good. Being in decent physical shape ahead of time is also helpful. Having the bed downstairs if you can would not hurt anything and expand your options. I didn't have the 90 degree rule either. The only thing they told me was to not plant my foot and turn. A bit later I was told not to squat and have my butt rest on my heels.
Allie-I agree with others-you need to get checked.
Tina-your location sounds perfect for the variation in vistas.
Rainy morning here today and the windy. Luckily it is in the 50s and 60s so spring temperatures are coming.
Off to stretch and get ready to go to office. Hope everyone has a good day.
Take care all,

Good morning ladies!
Today I take my car back to the dealer to fix the electrical shock problem. It's twenty miles away, too far for their shuttle service, so I will be walking around downtown for a couple hours. I'm looking forward to a nice lunch. I kind of enjoy eating alone, in peace.
The car makes me nervous though. I'm afraid they will find nothing, and I will have to put up with the shocks. Well no use worrying about that ahead of time.
Have a marvelous day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Machka - That ship has definitely sailed. Plus I have almost no income, so couldn't pay for it anyway.
I rang Saga first thing this morning, and cancelled the next cruise. The October one is now on hold and depends on how soon I can get the second hip done. Saga insurance only covers hip operations further than 12 weeks from sailing, so if it's 10 weeks, I will either have to cancel, or buy extra insurance from their partners. At least I have told them the situation, so I'm covered.
Then I rang my surgeon's secretary and asked for the letter/email from him that he said he would send. She said he was reliable at keeping his word. That seems to be all that Saga needs, but I will also get my doctor to send one. I'm going up to the pharmacy in a minute to get my new pain meds, so will drop in next door to ask them for a letter. They have put in a referral to the NHS hospital, but are warning about heavy waiting lists.
It is my DDIL 's birthday today and she was keen for me to visit, even though I can't do the pickup. John will do it. I said I would get a taxi over, but she said my son will pick me up earlier and bring us both home. I can take the posh chocolates I bought, and the kids Easter chocolate faces. They will have to fight over who gets the pig, the sheep, and the cow.
So, good things happening.
Thinking of Rita, Allie, and several others. We care.

Super busy day at work today.
Super busy day in general!
Walked nearly 2 km
Climbed 21 flights of stairs up and 29 flights of stairs down
Fell asleep on the bus on the way home.
Then spent quite a bit of time in the evening colouring.

Heather - good good news about your hip operations, cancelling the upcoming cruise, etc. So glad it's all working out and that you have the funds to have it handled privately and not have to wait a year or more. I know you'll do fine with any post-op OT and exercises. Sounds like Easter is handled.
Ginny - did you have any home health care to help when you came home right after your hip operations? If I were in the same boat, I know I'd need to have some help at least initially, neighbors can only do so much but I know they'd be here if I asked. These are things I think about sometimes.
Annie - hope the dealer can find your car shock problem and get it fixed. I used to love eating by myself too when I worked in Seattle. So many cute restaurants close by with different kinds of ethnic foods. I was spoiled.
Tina - those desert wildflowers must be beautiful in person. You live in a great place being within driving distance to so many neat spots - desert, ocean, etc. I feel pretty lucky to live in a similar situation, those the same reasons DH and I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Indiana many years ago.
If I had the teleporter here right now I'd pick up anyone who wanted to go and zip down to Barbara's house and see how she's doing. Then stop by Rita's and out to Allie's.
Collette is coming today, so I need to start picking up dog toys and straightening up.
Make it a fabulous day, ladies!

Good morning, my friends,
Hope it's a good day for everyone so far or just past, as the case may be.
I'm sitting here in my living room, wrapped in an electric wrap blanket, because even though I've got the heat in the house at 70 degrees, I'm chilly, and it's skimming freezing temperatures outside. However, it's supposed to be up to nearly 80 this weekend! Really looking forward to that.
Organ recital for today:I have to be in town later today at some point to get some lab tests done and check my iron levels. My own sense of my health and fatigue levels say that these will be reasonably good results. When my iron's low, I feel as if I'm having to drag my body and my mind through air that's turned to Jell-O, every effort is a struggle. I don't feel like that right now at all, so I'm pretty sure I'll be fine.
Unfortunately, though, I had to email the gyno that the estrogen cream isn't giving as much relief as he had hoped, so I'm going to have to go back and see him again. Also, unfortunately, I'm going to have to drive up to Fayetteville to do it. It's about an hour and a half all told, and 50 minutes driving between two bathrooms that are accessible. That bumps up against the limit of how long I far I can make it. If it's a reasonably good day, I'll be OK, but it's completely unpredictable...
Speaking of which, next week is my heart ultrasound. Which reminds me, if she's read this far:
April: How did your heart tests go? Do you have the results yet? I've been thinking about you. Hope it was a good experience, and that the results were good for you.
My ultrasound is next week Wednesday. Corey is taking the morning off to get me to the hospital and to get me back home, as they do put you under the twilight sleep for the test and won't let you drive afterward. Not looking forward to it, but not sweating it, either. The results will be what they are, I've already done all I can to get my heart in good shape, and plan to continue to do so.
Last but not least, the appointment tomorrow to have my knees looked at by an independent doc to see if they're going to bump my VA percentage rating has been canceled for some unknown reason. No telling when they'll reschedule it, but kind of a relief to not have to do it right now.
And... Time to get my yoga done, I've worked outside so much that I haven't done yoga in four days!
I've also got a load of laundry in, time to put the dishes away from last night and load breakfast dishes in the dishwasher... then I think I'll jump in the shower and head into town. While I'm scheduled for 1pm to get my blood drawn, they'll do it anytime I walk in, they're good that way. Then maybe a stop at Goodwill to see if they've got some pictures I can get cheap and use for the frames. That's how I get most of my frames for paintings, etc.
Heather - glad you've found a way through. Your health and mobility are everything.
Later,
Love,

Ginny ... I was in bed last night when I read your post so didn't post a response. My immediate reaction was those contractors are not to be trusted and their repair seemed like overkill. Then Lisa responded and everyone else. Getting other estimates and starting with small remedial steps as you've noted makes the most sense to me.
Yesterday was another bright, sunshine day and it looks like the same today! Yay! (Rain tomorrow ... boo). Besides the weather, I sometimes allow myself to wallow in self-pity for a bit. Never achieves anything but I get it out of my system.
Made Kolachi (nut roll) over the weekend and it was a colossal fail. Arghh. I think my yeast may have been old. Also think my method is off somewhere even though I follow a recipe. Found another recipe with the same ingredients and measures, but different method. Will try that and if it doesn't work, I'm done. We do not need to eat any more of my mistakes!
I have been staying within my eating window/schedule and I'm watching my choices. The scale is responding nicely so I just need to continue doing my part.
Beth near Buffalo
I have to tell you of one of my fails.👍🏼😁. It was early 1980's, I was young and careless and I used way too hot water and killed the yeast. Well that is my view of what happened. So instead of the bread being a loaf, and soft, it was maybe 2 inches thick and DENSE. I just let the failure cool on the counter and went out shopping. I came back to half the loaf gone! Lee had come home from work and said that flat bread is really good! He thought I did it on purpose, the sweet shmuck!😂. I didn't have the heart to tell him it really wasn't supposed to be that flat! Navy guys really will eat anything!
