Today’s gratitude: sense of smell. The scent of fog and mist in the woods this morning, then the first whiff of Lemon Lift tea and now Joe’s garlic bread warming in the oven. Yum!
PT exercises, even got steps in, was doing ok with the food when. . . knew it was a mistake to put the dark chocolate California brittle within easy reach of the recliner. One, ok, but couldn’t resist the second… with predictable results
Tracey would love to see pics of your grade f-ers and their tipi. Cool project! BTW it was my Joe, not Barbie’s Jake, who figured out the cause of his tingles and nerve pain. ;}
Machka Dentist again? Oh noo… thanks for the tip and op clarifications. Gotta say I love the nicknames “Salvos” and “Vinnies”.
Allie hooray for good bloodwork.
Annie ((hugs))
Lanette Fingers X’d for favorable optometrist appointment today.
Rebecca so happy you’re happy to be happy and put that sad, trying time behind you and your family.
That’s it, time to do wii balance games, knee and shoulder PT and get ready for line dance class.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

A tip is a waste management centre ... a rubbish dump.
A tip shop is a place located right next to a tip where people can drop off stuff that they don't want but is possibly too good to go into the tip or sometimes stuff is salvaged from the tip. Most tips have a shop associated with them. Words like recycle, reuse, resource etc. are often in the name of the tip shop. "Second Chance Re-Use Shop", "The Resource Tip Shop", "The Recovery Shop", "Uptipity Recycle Shop", etc.
You'll find everything in these places. There's an outdoor area and indoor area. There will be building supplies like piles of used sinks, doors, windows, pieces of metal, pallets, bricks, and all sorts. There will be furniture, toys, suitcases, clothing, kitchenware, books, DVDs, CDs, bicycles, garden stuff ... you name it. And it will all be pretty inexpensive.
Can you see the photos here:
https://www.facebook.com/secondchancereuseshop/photos
https://www.facebook.com/resourcetipshop/photos_by
Here's a list of things you might find at a tip shop:
http://www.recoveryshop.com.au/shop.html
We got my beautiful antique dining room table from one tip shop.
We got the little computer table I'm using right now at another tip shop. It sits neatly in front of my wing chair.
I'd venture a guess that most of my CDs have come from tip shops.
They are fascinating places.
On the other hand, places like Salvos (Salvation Army), Vinnies, the Red Cross shop, etc. are Op Shops. Opportunity Shops = thrift shops. They'll mainly have clothing with a little bit of other stuff.
At lunch, I go to the Red Cross Op Shop for books. They've all got books, but the Red Cross one seems to have the best selection. I go to the Lifeline Op Shop for slightly higher end clothing for work. The Vinnies is a good place for CDs and DVDs. The Salvos is the closest to where I work, and often has the lowest prices on clothing.
Machka in Oz
There used to be a recycling place next to the dump by my parents place that had all kinds of things like that. We got some great stuff super cheap.
We do have thrift stores around but prices have gone up so much. Some prices are higher than buying new at the store.2 -
got a bonus morning to myself.
Not going to mil's to walk the dog because dh is going straight to the dentist after he is done there.
I am having my second cup of tea then heading out to work in the back yard again. I didn't go back out yesterday afternoon-too tired.
He will be gone at least 2 hrs I think. I can get a lot done once I get started in that time.
We may go out to lunch when he gets home- play it by ear.
Zumba tonight- two friends will be missing again. One has family from Peru visiting and the other had the first surgery for reconstruction after breast cancer so she is out for a month after the expander was put in.
Have a wonderful day ladies

Heather: When is the surgery? How long will you be in the hospital?
Rebecca: The floor looks great!
Debbie: Enjoyed the pictures of the kittens!
Lisa: Glad it is working out with Patrick! I hope the weather is okay!
Anna: Welcome
Annie: Wow! Your Dad is pretty fit to still be walking 3 to 4 miles a day! I know it was a hard moment when you had to take the keys from your Dad.
RV Rita: Glad you are feeling better!
Vickie: My sympathy on the loss of your friend.
Tracey: I knew a 5th grade teacher that loved 5th grade because they come in as children and leave much closer to puberty.
She enjoyed watching the change.
I missed a week or so. I only went back 5 pages. My plants came for my garden and I have to decide where to plant them.
I am through with the shelter. I got overwhelmed with the decluttering and had to put some boxes in my son's old bedroom. I did make it to exercise class this morning. And I have plans to stay overnight at a bed and breakfast to attend a graduation. So all is going along okay!

Hi everyone, been using Fitness Pal on and off for many years now. Reached my highest weight in my life 182.8 and decided to focus on becoming healthy. Goal is to lose 50 lbs by Christmas. 2 to 3 times a week workout and started using Slim Fast(mix into my black coffe to make a yummy mocha). I am agressive in my calories deficit to try and drop weight faster. Dinner is my only meal and one coffe with Slim Fast. Weekends I will splurge a bit though. I am in menopause as well so I think it makes losing weight harder. I am motivated by 1.8 lbs lost after just one day. Happy to find this forum.6

Welcome Jackieost! Come back often, we talk a lot in this group!
@Machka, thank you for the info on the tip shop. Some of our dumps have places like yours for ‘good’ stuff that has been tossed out.
Yesterday, helped put all the pedal boats in their slips out of storage. I was designated driver for the boats. Boy did my legs get a good workout! 2.5 hours of pedaling boats, I was exhausted. Then went to Walmart for DH’s rum on top of this. Long day, but realized how out of shape I am. Moving those boats, according to the internet, burned well over 450 calories! That was a bonus!
Today, my back is sore and I’m still tired, but moving along. I need to get back to exercising, not just walking. The ranger told me I could take a pedal boat out anytime, except I would have to fend off people wanting to use them. I think I will do it when our life guards start and are renting the boats. I get free use! Great leg workout!

Good afternoon, dear hearts,
As usual, one appointment blew my whole morning to smithereens, so I'm just finally getting back into my swing of things. Taken my noon meds, and hope the pain meds will kick in soon:
Joint Report:This was (I thought) the final medical appointment to get my ankle looked at. I damaged the Achilles tendon in my right ankle when I was 19 years old, and ended up in a cast and on crutches. This was at my first duty station in the Air Force. I had honestly forgotten about it until after I made the application to have my knees re-examined for my VA rating percentage.
So, I supplemented my first application with a second one to get my ankle looked at. It's honestly been bad ever since, but I just blamed it on my weight. They did find the injury in my records (not bad on their part, considering it was 45 years ago!), so sent me back to the independent doc to get it examined. The knee examination was a few weeks ago, same office.
For this one she wanted to check on a scan of both ankles--she'll finalize her report once those X-rays hit her desk, and unless something shows up that she's not expecting, I won't have to go back to her office again. The nuclear bone scan that showed the knees were in bad shape supported the knee application, but it only said that my feet showed damage from osteoarthritis. Since it didn't specifically say ankles, she wanted to make sure that she got views of both to back up her exam and the bone scan.
They will schedule the X-rays for me, and it shouldn't take long to sort out after that. Hopefully, I'll have a determination sometime in June, but all things considered, it could be July. No worries - my initial application went in on January 31, so if there is an increase in my rating, the difference between the 10 percent I get now and the new rating percentage will be paid back to that point. Fingers crossed it will all be worth it.
I couldn't resist while I was out and about and picked up some fresh basil. Pesto is apparently addictive, and I've gotten myself hooked. The good part is, Corey is too, so that works out. I've got garlic roasting in the oven (not traditional, but I can't cope with raw garlic...) and the house smells like an amazing Italian restaurant at the moment.
Rosemarie - Good to see you pop up, dear heart, I was about to add you to the list of those we hadn't seen in a bit, like Kylia and Joy. I must admit, I love being of an age and of a mind where I can say, "No, that's not right for me," or just "No." I do it a lot.
@jackiekost - Jackie - Welcome to the group, join any conversation or comment whenever you feel comfortable. It moves fast! We're a chatty bunch.
Rebecca - There is definitely a glint in Athena's eyes, as well as that expression...
The first of the series of storms has come and gone, and I've got a few hours before the next one comes in... but it's like trying to breathe in the swamp outside, the humidity is sky high. Supposed to be four or five hours of rain cycling in every four or five hours without it into Friday morning. Can't argue with the weather...
OK, my chickens, I'm off to take a well-deserved nap. I was wide awake at 4 a.m. - the other things that appointments do to me, as I'm always afraid I'll be late.
Later,
Love y'all!

almost done in the back. Just need to find a spot for the empty pots that I am not using right now, may use them later in the season.
Need to get the dill and lettuce seeds in later this afternoon.
Going shopping for MIL now- will be a nice break.

I am speechless and still processing. My PET was completely clear. No metastatic disease indicated in any bone or organ. It did pick up that I was constipated, and that's a little embarrassing, but I'll take it. I know this means I get to go off Xgeva. I am hoping for a dose reduction of the Kisqali, I'm currently on a maximum dose. I have to stay on letrozole.
This feels a lot like cured, which is what we were going for, but we thought completely unattainable.
No discernable cancer in my body. I can't believe it.

Beth, I haven’t been saying a lot, but I have been thinking of you and praying for your situation with your mother and for your cochlear implant.
Welcome to all the newbies. I’ve been around for a while, but post sporadically at times.
Yesterday was election day. ( i promise what I’m going to say does not violate our no politics rule.) Our very popular sheriff is retiring at the end of December. We had a 4 candidate race to take her place. The man who won, without a run-off, mind you, is a former student of mine. When he was in my 11th grade homeroom, he was tardy more often than he was on-time. He would rack up hours and hours of detention and then make a deal with me to wipe them all off by doing chores. He was not a fan of any of his teachers. If you had asked me then if he would one day be our sheriff, I would have died laughing. Apparently, he grew up into quite a popular, law-abiding citizen.8 -
Back from Optometrist, all good. We talked about diabetes/blood sugar/ low carb. Dr. B said people with iffy blood sugars, even if not diabetic, can experience small but measurable changes in vision - nothing permanent, just fluctuations.
I read more about Dr. Unwin's low carb Diabetes diet, and picked up a link to another low carb website:
https://newforestpcn.co.uk/low-carb/
It's utilizing Unwin's plan but has a nice chart of acceptable foods plus meal ideas. Looks like there's a free app too. Lots to review. Too wet to do much outside so here's my afternoon reading.
**Note their definition of low-carb is 130 gm of carbs or lower per day. And they recommend 90 gm of protein per day.**

Lisa- just put my basil plants in one of the raised beds. The plants are tiny so all are in one side- I can transplant later when they get bigger but just wanted them in the ground and out of the green house(want it empty so I don't have to water just a few things
Flea- That is the most amazing news ever. Thanks for sharing with us. Pray it stays like that and you can get off more of the meds.
Lanette- dh is diabetic and change in his vision is one of the first things he notices when his sugar is off.
His eyes get very blurry.

Flea - Amazing news! You must be thrilled!
John did go to watch Edie play football. It had stopped raining, but it was chilly, damp, and miserable. He thought she played well. Apparently she has a great throw in. Her team won 8 -0. She was very appreciative and texted him afterwards.
I've been wrestling with this irritable bladder, which has depressed and worried me, but it seems to have calmed down at the moment. I can't think of anything much beyond my nether regions.
Lisa - Glad things are moving on for your assessment. A lump sum will be nice.
Rosemarie - Nice to see you!

Caught up today…I’ve come close a couple times before this, but something always pops up to interrupt my time here. As I read I do send out virtual hugs and waves of compassion to lift the pain, stress and heartache many of you are enduring.
Vicki: Profound sympathy on the loss of your dear friend.
Annie: Ditto what others have encouraged about staying more attentive and attached to your dad. Been there. Eventually, my DH was getting up to go to “work” at 2:00 AM and was headed to the door. I slept with my shoes on for a solid year. My best resources were “Dementia with Dignity”, the VA, and the 800# to Alz Association. I know that you will get through this with dignity for your dad and your cheese still on the cracker (thanks, Lisa). Please take any and all help you can.
Tracey: Love Michaela’s Hippie Girl vibe. I wanna be a Hippie Girl, too.
Barbara: I remember you really liked the Balance class. Hope you are out of PT soon.
Michele and Debbie: You’re giving me kitten envy.
Tina: Your Central California trips sounds excellent. I can’t wait to get back there and hit farmers markets.
Machka: As a serial thrift shopper, thank you for the primer on “Tips and Ops”.
Flea: Happy dance for you!!!! What wonderful news.
Heather: I so appreciate how candidly you share all that is involved with getting your surgeries. I hope the waiting turns out to be the worst part.
Updates:My 4th date with N was wonderful. We met in Charleston, saw a Bonnie Raitt concert, hit three beaches and two farmers markets. We caught up on laughing together, taking a drive together and cuddle time. We are both still Goobers tickled to pieces to have this magical friendship. And then at the end of five days, we were just fine retreating to our separate corners of the continent until next time. Right now, it looks like date #5 will commence here in Denver in mid-July. Stay tuned.
This past weekend, I was present for both games which our Hockey and Basketball teams lost, and it meant an abrupt end to what looked like promising seasons. It’s considered the worst sports weekend in Colorado history. I will so miss the guys and their families, but it will also be a nice change of pace to work more concerts and theatre programs. The backstage sports events require several hours of standing, and my hips and knee will be grateful for a respite.
Think I shared that I lost a longtime BFF in November. I will not be attending her COL in June, but I am in the process of writing something to be read during it. Nothing scripted yet, but have been spending a few mins each day journaling my memories. Eventually I’ll piece it all together. Still hurting.
Summer is on the horizon. I saw the condo maintenance team was getting the pool and hot tub painted and primed to open this weekend. Morning lap swimming is my favorite summer exercise. I will continue to attend StretchLab, but plan to cut back to maybe 2-3 sessions per month because the swimming is so therapeutic for my back and shoulders. The scale has been going in the right direction, but still a work in progress to get back to my longtime plateau of 148.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Flea, YAY!!!!! Such amazing news, I can only imagine how you are feeling, the joy and disbelief all mixed up in one! Overjoyed for you.
Tracey, I watched the series end of Young Sheldon, a three hanky night for sure! I have enjoyed the series and am looking forward to Mandy and Georgie’s story. So happy to hear that your practicum is going well, hope you will be able to find a job quickly when it’s finished.
I’ve been reading and cheering the victories, mourning the losses and sending good thoughts to those who are in pain/under the weather/dealing with family stuff.
Must go make dinner, it’s that time again! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island3 -
Flea, What awesome news. Thanks for letting us cheer with you.2
-
Annie - you may have felt mushy, but you sounded positive and in control.
Lanette - I will be with this group for 5 weeks. Then I’m done. I am trying to decide what to do with my summer, find a job or wait until the school year starts to get one.
Financially we could use more money, but I really want to work in this field.
Heather - I hope you don’t have an infection just before your surgery.
Barbara - I don’t know if I stated that clearly, they didn’t make it, they witnessed it. When it was complete about 60 students and 7 or 8 adults were able to be in there.
Here is a picture of it.
Oops I got my J’s mixed up. Sorry about that.
Debbie - I’m finding that with thrift stores here too, it’s all so expensive.
Rosemarie - I think when something that was supposed to be fun becomes a chore it’s time to stop doing it.
Rita - that’s wonderful you can use the boats for free.
Flea -I am so incredibly happy for you!!!!
Katie - that’s an inspiring story about your newly elected sheriff.
I went so school with some boys that I thought would end up in jail or dead, one of them became a minister. It goes to show how much people can change.
Rori - I thought of you last week when Michaela and I had a conversation about the Avalanche, her Dad’s favourite team.
I had asked her mother if the team was still in and Michaela answered yes, her mother said Michaela would know more than she did. Michaela says “yeah I watch the games with daddy even though I don’t understand football… I mean hockey.”
Had a good day today, I made a tshirt tonight that says Let’s go Oilers. Our local team made the next round in the playoffs and the kids are excited! I have never worn a shirt promoting a team before but feel this will show I’m part of the community and care about their likes.
Tomorrow the teacher and I are meeting to come up with a game plan for one boy.
Can’t believe tomorrow is Thursday.
