That's all your streak means. It doesn't mean you've logged food or exercise or anything. It just means you've opened MFP and left it open for 10 years. Is that fact really so important to you?

    weird and rude comment

    Yet true!

I lost interest in the streak when I discovered that it didn't track days we logged food or exercise and only tracked days we had MFP open for even a few seconds.

We're losing the Newsfeed which is all right because not many of us used it. It has always been kind of a duplicate of the Community Forum, and mine is full of automatic posts when someone closed their diary for the day or did some exercise.

But more importantly, will we still have access to the Food Diary, Exercise Log, Reports, etc.?

Also, will our new profiles have a Goals area?
That's something I'd like to see ... Food and Exercise Goals. Whether the goal is to lose a certain amount of weight, or drink a certain amount of water in a day, or consume a certain number of carbs, or cycle a certain distance or whatever.

I'd like to see reports and progress bars as we move toward our goal.

I'd like to see challenges similar to what Strava has ... some exercise ones like walking 50 km in a month, or exercising 15 minutes a day each day of a month, etc., and some diet ones like logging each day of a month.

These things would make MFP more interactive and motivational.

if one reason they're getting rid of the news feed is lack of compatibility with their chosen ad platform, their very UNtargeted ads weren't going to bring in the bucks they were hoping for. less but highly targeted ads would make more money while not alienating users.

i'm an overweight, over 60, weight training enthusiast, but i see SO many ads for temu (if i were interested in temu, i'd already have the app and would bother clicking there from MFP), ads for music stores i've already been to because i already bought instruments there or stuff like clothes for thin people and recently russian brides, but i'm a married woman and really not looking for a russian GF or wife. i have yet to see a single ad that i might consider clicking.
Sounds like it is a done deal. The feed has been getting buggier weekly so powers that be probably can not fix it and rather than leaving it broken, they are doing away with it. The activity feed is definitely not a replacement too bad. Wish the software was easier to fix but agree it is pretty old and outdated. I will miss my friends 😥😥

What about our profiles? Are those going to disappear since they are sort of where the newsfeed interacts? Of course looking at profiles even your own has also been broken recently. sigh.

the whole site is buggy and broken - i've been here since 2014, but i had to abandon my original account because it stopped working, which is when i created this newer account. i mostly come here because my fitness friends are here. it's a very sad thing to remove the news feed...

    MFP has 200 million users.

If 200,000 people used the News Feed, that's 0.1% of the total users.

If only 20 million people actively use MFP (10%), and 200,000 of them use the News Feed, that's 1% of the total active users.

When moderators etc. say that relatively few people use the News Feed, this is what they mean. To you, 200,000 people might seem like a lot, but when you run the math, it's not.

And quite frankly, I'd guess it's something more like 20,000 rather than 200,000.

Registered users doesn't tell the whole story though - how many of those are active users? That's a number I'd be more interested in and then see how many of those use the newsfeed (and how they measure 'using the newsfeed')

There has been protest here, but I think it's only a fraction of the newsfeed users - many of them probably aren't aware anything is changing. The only reason I know is because I'm active on the boards - I received no email informing me and the official post here didn't even specify newsfeed were disappearing, it only mentioned how this new 'activity feed' works.

We'll see if protest changes anything, but to say the new 'activity feed' in the boards (and groups) is a valid replacement is a joke honestly, just camouflaging for something they're taking away.

In my calculations above, I suggest that perhaps 10% are active users.

    But let's say that 1% of 200,000,000 are active users = 2,000,000.
Now let's assume that 10% of 2,000,000 are News Feed users ... that's 200,000, and still a significant minority.

And again, looking at these numbers (and knowing the ghost town my News Feed has become in recent years), I'd guess no more than 20,000 (1%) of the possible 2,000,000 active users use News Feed.

If it is also old technology and not supported, why would they keep it?

If 500 people get miffed and leave, what kind of dent is that in active users? Especially if most of them are not premium users?

Not that it's possible but I would be most interested in the numbers of paid versus unpaid subscribers who use the newsfeed actively. As in.. a deal breaker. I'm certain it is for some but what's the actual percentage.

Other than including me in a 'head count' in order to sell advertising to all users (paid or not), the site hasn't extracted any money from me.

I can't be mad at any of it if I'm not a paying customer.

We are all commodoties to these sites. If we don't pay we have are not worth much to Francisco Partners, the private equity firm that owns MyFitnessPal.

I get whatever they decide to give me for free. My choice to stay or not.

Most of the 'free web' that once existed is gone. The web has been and will continue to become greatly monetized.

Your response is full of "Ifs" and guesses, not facts. You sound like an out-of-touch employee or owner of MFP rather than a frustrated user. This is not reality and you are not in the majority.

I'm not a frustrated user. I'm a reasonably content user. And given my employment and educational history, my "guesses" are likely pretty accurate so yes, you're right, neither I nor you are not in the majority.

You might like to read the statistics to get an idea of reality: https://www.businessofapps.com/data/myfitnesspal-statistics/

And something to think about ... whatever happens with MFP is just business. It's all cost accounting.

The newsfeed was the best MFP feature, the heart and soul of keeping us accountable and logging. The Community Page isn't the place for sharing our daily struggles and victories--It feels too impersonal and lacks privacy. Private groups are a cumbersome stand-in at best. After 9 years here, I"m having to find alternate ways to maintain those important friendships I treasured here; I can log calories anywhere--There are better places to do it--but the friends lists/newsfeed was what made MFP unique and effective, giving us a more private space in a larger social media site to easily check in daily with people we came to know and trust. The other bells and whistles don't matter. I think your most devoted users will end up leaving in droves unless a version of the newsfeed can be returned to us. I know the old newsfeed has become difficult for MFP to manage, but surely you all have the tech know-how to create a new form of it that works for you and for us?

It is interesting to read the discussion about how active or not the newsfeed is. The ONLY reason I really keep friends is if they were engaged on the feed. I did find a lot of folks are not. But instead of getting rid of it I agree that it is a secret weapon and trying to teach people about it and using it would help them more than they probably know. The activity feed is a strange thing. I will wait to make mine public again until it contains a bit more control. Like privacy friends only option would be a start.
