Barbiecat- low key, still, walked the dogs, went to the gym but went to Red Robin for my free birthday burger and then another restaurant for a free desert. I’m glad we walked there and back, that was 2019 calories in that meal!! But I did burn 1713 and that only happens once a year.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES6 -

Happy 65th Pip!
Bought geraniums today to plant in pots around the gazebo. They help to keep mosquitos away. Otherwise kind of a lazy day. DD and I finished a jigsaw puzzle we were working on. Wanted to do some outdoor work but it kept raining off and on all day. Choir tomorrow morning.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -
Today’s gratitude: hot tub. Might have to get in again, upper back muscles sore from a very intentional shoulder PT session Saturday morning.
Heather thanks for the clutterbug and Minimal Mom podcast/video recommendations. What distinguishes English asparagus from that grown in other countries? Is it a separate variety or???
Annie, well done on the walk. Those tight muscles will loosen up, keep on!
Machka what are the sleepers you and Rowan moved from the garden?
Barbie ouch! “people who ‘give helpful advice to people who are happier than they are’"
I resemble that remark!
Kelly so glad to see you posting and hear your updates.
Sue thanks for the tip about geraniums deterring mosquitoes. Mosquitoes and poison oak, whatever was the Creator thinking? SMH.
Skipped dog group so step count low. Just didn’t want to leave the property.
Time to snooze
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Good morning ladies!
Well, it's been a week since the doctor said my dad shouldn't go walking alone. I got up this morning and he is gone! At least he left me a note, right beside the one that says no walking alone. He left in the dark at 5 am without his hearing aids. His note says he has church at 8 am, so he isn't Missing until 9:30 or so. So I guess my role is just to wait and worry.
I thought he had accepted staying home. I took him walking in the woods just yesterday morning! I was resisting some of the devices because he seemed to not be wandering.
He just came home. He thinks the risk is okay because he didn't get lost today. I was unable to convince him that he did anything wrong. In fact he didn't want to put in his hearing aids and talk to me.
I left him home alone twice this week. Once for groceries and once for horseback riding. Now I guess he can't be trusted. Such a shame.
My sister sent me a door chime. It sounds off when the door is opened. I resisted because he goes outside in the yard a lot. But she was right. So that needs to be installed. I could have chased after him at five am. But without his hearing aids he wouldn't have listened to me.
So sad. So frustrating.
I need to take him to church next.
Happy birthday Pip!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free.

One of the most difficult things about diseases, injuries, etc. that affect the brain is the lack of insight. The brain doesn't recognise that something might be wrong with the brain.
It's not his fault. It's the damage the dementia is inflicting on his brain.
But I know that it is very difficult to deal with.
https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-support/help-dementia-care/what-difference-between-denial-and-lack-insight
"What is lack of insight?
Lack of insight is when a person with dementia is unable to recognise changes in their behaviour and emotions (that are caused by physical changes in their brain).
Lack of insight is related to loss of activity in areas in the front of a person’s brain (known as the frontal lobes)."
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22832-anosognosia
"Anosognosia is a condition where you can’t recognize other health conditions or problems that you have. Experts commonly describe it as “denial of deficit” or “lack of insight.” It falls under the family of agnosias, all of which happen when your brain can’t recognize or process what your senses tell it."
"Anosognosia is incredibly common with certain mental health conditions. Experts estimate that it affects between 50% and 98% of people with schizophrenia, about 40% of people with bipolar disorder, and more than 80% of people with Alzheimer’s disease. It also happens to between 10% and 18% of people who have one-sided paralysis after a stroke."
"What are the symptoms of anosognosia?
People with anosognosia usually show that they can't recognize a medical problem they have, either through action or what they say. In some cases, people with this condition will rationalize what’s happening to them, or they may try to cover up symptoms. They may recognize some symptoms but not others.
Anosognosia means a person can’t do one or more of the following:- Recognize that they have an illness or medical problem.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of the condition that they experience.
- Connect their signs and symptoms to that condition.
- Understand and agree that the condition is serious and needs treatment.
In some cases, a person with this condition may avoid the truth about their condition, and they might do so consciously or without even realizing it. Some might confabulate, which is when a person’s mind fills in gaps in their memory with false memories."

Lisa, You have endured and dealt with so much medical stuff that I have huge admiration for you. When I was first facing a visit to the gynecologist as a young woman, someone said that it was really no different than having someone look in my mouth. That was not comforting.
Barbie in chilly and drizzly NW WA
Barbie - Thank you so much for the compliment - I feel the same respect and admiration for you and your patience and equanimity over your husband's health issues, as well as everyone like KJ and Kylia, Carol and others dealing with husbands' health or physical issues. I feel very lucky on that note. As far as the person trying to reassure you regarding the gyn visit, yeah, that is not comforting in any way. One of Mama's favorite quotes:"What cannot be cured must be endured." - Robert Burton
Happy belated birthday, Pip!
Already ferried Corey's second cup of coffee to him. One or two more cups while in bed and then he will be up and around. He wore himself OUT yesterday up and down off a ladder removing the biggest piece of siding that was still left - the area covering the front of the carport. I pulled all the siding from the two inside walls of the carport a few weeks back so I know how tough it is.
Egg is outside terrorizing the indigenous fauna. I'm trying to want to do anything about anything and having very little success so far. It could happen. I could do yoga.
Or not.
Peaceful Sunday in progress - and for the worry warts (and you know who you are), my sister already called about it, too, and as I told her, the tornadoes were far north of us as you can get, in Benton County and far south of us in north Texas--we didn't even lose any small branches.
Later, y'all,
Love,

M Agree about insight and Mental Illness. It is one of the saddest part or the disease. Your brain will not accept there is something wrong. Without being able to understand there is a problem it makes it very difficult to treat. To overcome this the person has to rely and trust the people around them to let them know a problem is happening and then have measures in place to know what to do! Again not an easy task.
Unfortunately for you father Annie it is getting to the point where he will need a more redistricted environment. They do make sensor for the door where alarms will go off. I am glad you already have one. My mother in law lived in a home where that is what the caregiver had to do to keep her residents safe. She had dementia too! She had it where she got angry and it was awful!
Happy Birthday PIP :flowerforyou:5 -

haha- dh is getting "advice" from one of the guys who shares a booth with one of dh's friends when we do the show. The thing is, the other guy sold $000 at this show and we sold $1800(the other guy , dh's friend sold $80( they are both artists. The guy keeps trying to tell dh what he should do.
Machka- I was wondering the same thing- what is a "sleeper"

We are all up in each others business!😂. Much is non good related, but life does play an important role in what we choose on our plates and in our bellies. Many of us its a 10 year friendship on here. 👍🏼💖🙏
Chime in when you can, answer who you wish to, and don't feel obligated to answer all. Some do, and we love them, but most of us kind of "check in" and that's great too. Me? I just post food p o RN , and grandkids, and talk about my sailors. Welcome from the grey island of Whidbey, bin WA state.👍🏼

Hi. I am Donna from Northern Michigan USA. I just found this thread and I love how inspiring it seems to be! I am 64 years young and started my weight loss journey weighing 253 pounds after giving up a 35 year habit of smoking cigarettes. Yes, I gained all that weight but I have been smoke free for 17 years now!
I now weight approximately 185 pounds. I hit the high 170's in February but have put a few back on. My goal is to reclaim my 170's and then continue on until I reach about 145.
I am a breast cancer survivor, a Type 2 diabetic, a heart patient with heart stents as well as other health issues that are obesity related.
My main goal outside of weight loss is to get stronger and improve my overall health. There are many things that can get better if I get my weight under control.
I am friendly, supportive and will definitely be a cheerleader, pom-poms and all, in your corner cheering you all on as you make your way through your journeys. I look forward to reading your entries in the mornings with my coffee. Thank you for having me!12 -
Good morning ladies. Busy day so far so pretty much have just skimmed.
Allie - twin girls! Cute announcement for sure. Wishing all the best for mom and the little girls. Have they tossed around any names yet?
Kelly - the info in the spoiler is good medicine for you both! . How did Son in Law's interview turn out?
Annie - so glad your sis will be here soon, much to discuss and plan with your dad. Does it seem like his dementia is quickly worsening since your mom died? It appears that way to me from what you write. Sending plenty of (((HUGS))) as you sisters face some challenges with him.
More on Vitamin DI watched an interview yesterday with a physician who went into depth about Vitamin D - how it works, how we get it. A couple things stood out -
** as we age, our skin gets drier so our bodies are less adept at synthesizing Vit D from sun exposure since it's the oils in our skin that help with the process. Plus, we use sunscreen and just don't seem to get out in the sun as much. So we're more dependent on foods and supplements.
** Vit D is very important in keeping our immune system top notch, and illness depletes it. The physician speculated that the covid jabs and boosters also deplete Vitamin D in our system and actually makes us more vulnerable to getting covid and other illnesses. It's his theory but something I was wondering about.
** It takes a couple weeks for the Vit D levels to increase in our blood from supplements so taking it when we become ill, unless it's calcifediol which is a form that is rapidly absorbed, might be too late to do much good. A year or two ago, Amazon was selling calcifediol but I haven't seen it in a while. Hence the importance of keeping good levels at all times. I aim to keep mine well over 50, last tested it was in the 60's and my doc was happy with it.
I was going to cut back on Vitamin D3 supplements this summer but hearing this, I'm going to keep it up. I take 10,000 IU of D3 plus 100 mcg of K2 per day.
Welcome new gals! Please sign every post with your name and location, general is perfectly fine. Easier for us to keep each other straight. We are here for ya! Rebecca was spot on - some of us have been in the group for years, but don't let that scare ya. We were all new once.
Reminder - Weekly Check-in tomorrow, please get info to me by tomorrow morning.
About the weekly check-in..... if anyone wants to be added, friend me if you haven't already on MFP here, and send me your info as above. It's for whatever YOU want - exercise, weight, calories, celebrations and/or areas you are "negotiating". No rules. I post it every Monday around noon.
I hit the gym around 6:30 this morning and the place was pretty empty. Perfect. This will be an easy habit to start.

. I found this cute fake succulent item for a buck. I cleaned up the leaves as best as I could (in the middle on the inside you could see how dusty/dirty it was, then I painted it and it sits on our outdoor back patio. The shelf I got at another sale for 2 bucks. The teapot I got at another one for cheap.

Was able to do Jackie Xtreme Timesaver DVD before we left for Denise’s. The remote fart machine was a big hit with PJ. I swear his finger was glued to the remote….lol His graduation was nice. Met their new dog. Boy, is he going to be BIG. You should see his paws! Of course, he’s a puppy and does things like goes in the house. Dinner Thursday was an ice cream (that we paid for). When we go up there, we’re on our own. I was surprised to see that for the entire time we were there, the sink was piled with dishes. I couldn’t even help her out and do them because the dish drainer was piled. Pete must be on his meds for this not to bother him. The kitchen table was piled with stuff as was the island in the kitchen. Well, not my house, I don’t think I could live that way.
Started stringing popcorn for the trees. Yes, it’s that time again! Like last year, I didn’t realize how hot the sun was and forgot to put on my sunscreen. Now the tops of my legs are red. Well, it’ll go away.
Lisa – I swear, the weathermen would have better accuracy if they’d just look out the window. The main reason we have a Sam’s membership card is for the gas. I very seldom buy food there. You have to get such large quantities. I do have to say, tho, that they do have good meats. I may buy from them if I’m having a party or something like that
Annie – when I walk around the neighborhood, by the time I get back to our house, I’m running for the bathroom. That’s one good thing about walking to Food Lion, I can go to the bathroom, buy what I’d like, then walk home and I don’t get home and run into the bathroom.
On the way up to Denise’s we stopped at Arby’s and got one of their orange shakes. I almost fell over – $4 for a shake that really wasn’t all that good. On the way home we stopped at Wendy’s. Got a salad and for $3 an orange frosty which was pretty good
Rebecca – I like the flooring, I just don’t know if I like it with the cabinets
Jess called this morning while I was on my walk. Seems Shadow is in the ER with kidney problems. I hate to say it, but I’m thinking this is the beginning of the end. After all, she’s 18. You know, if I’m right, I do hope Shadow passes quickly because I can see Jess wanting to try everything and anything. At some point you just have to question quality of life.
Did I tell you that we’re getting 2 orange kittens from the place where Jess volunteers (to spay and neuter) and 2 from the vet. We had told the vet we’d take 4 but then Jess got these 2 orange kittens. Well, we did tell her a while ago to keep on the lookout for 2 male orange cats, We’ve decided to call them Barney and Fred and the other two will be Chewy and Yoda. Jess is going to neuter them and we pick them up the 9th. Vince is so happy. I’m happy, but I’m not counting down the days until we get them.
My throat is feeling scratchy. The good news is that I don’t feel like eating.
Annie – good job walking. Pretty soon you’ll be at the 4 mile mark
Jackie – welcome! Good loss
Unfortunately, the gym at the hotel by Denise was being renovated. All the equipment had been moved. So every day I just took an hour walk around the neighborhood. Hopefully, the next time we go up there it’ll be open, as well as the pool. I’d like to go back up in august before he starts kindergarten.
Last time we were up there Pete mentioned that Denise is getting shots in her knees. This time he told us it was bone on bone. Really, she’s not that old (37) and is pretty thin.
Flea – wonderful report!!!
Rori – so very sorry about your friend. Glad you had a great visit with your friend and will look forward to future news
I’m finding thrift stores to be expensive, too. Bought this yarn in FL and it was priced higher than the price when it was new. But I really wanted that yarn so I paid the higher price. Not that it was terrible.
M – nice floor
That callous on the bottom of my foot seems to have come back. Tomorrow or Tues I’ll call the MD office and see just what kind of MD I should see. I’m guessing it really needs to be cut out, if that can be done
No bowling tomorrow but we do have ceramics.
Barbie – sorry you’re distraught over the dentist. At the end of the day, it doesn’t sound all that bad. I only have two of my wisdom teeth
g2renew – welcome! Cottage cheese is high in protein. Many times I have a protein bar, too. One crunch isn’t real bad in calories. Neither is Gourmet Genius (I think that’s the name, you can get both on Amazon)
Did you know that the US is the only place on the planet that has tornadoes?
I’m getting a sty again. Will just go makeup free for a few days and put warm compresses on it
pip – happy birthday to the youngster! I found this “glow in the dark” succulent for Jess. I think they just painted glow pain on it, tho
Donna – welcome! Fantastic that you’ve been smoke free
Just work tomorrow.

The new floors are lovely. As are yours, Rebecca.
Oncologist says we will talk at my next appointment. Building up my courage to ask for a reduction of the Kisqali to two a day, instead of three. In the meantime, I'm being a good girl and taking three.
Hubby and I are camping this weekend while youngest son is on a music trip with his highschool music department, choir, band, and orchestra kids. He saw Blue Man group, among other things. He got splattered with blue paint which made him happy.
Posting a picture of the waterfall we hiked to this morning. Hubby complained almost the whole way, because it was not easy. He accused me of trying to kill him! 😆
Heading back home tonight to pick up son from high school late.
