Good morning ladies,
Pip - sorry folks didn't come through with birthday wishes, I know it's important to you. Birthday stuff:I removed my birth date from FB and haven't announced it here, mostly for security purposes tho I know if an ID thief wanted it bad enough, it could be found. I've started using DH's birthdate on many websites that think they need that information but really don't - it's a date I remember.
I was raised where birthdays were a big deal - a reason for friends and relatives to come together and have a meal plus cake. And presents when we were kids. When I was working, it was over the top in my department. The person having a birthday always got a wildly decorated cube, balloons, streamers, etc. And a lunch. It got out of hand... people getting each other nick-nacks and the stress of shopping for someone just because it was expected, because they got ME something. You guys know the drill. I know most of my workmates enjoyed it, and good for them. Frankly, introvert me was embarrassed by all of it and I was glad to be retired and done with the hoopla.
If I had a large family close by, I'd probably feel differently and get into the swing of baking cakes, having parties, etc.
So if folks don't wish me "Happy Birthday" it's perfectly fine. I apologize to those you who whose birthdays I've missed - it's certainly not intentional, that's for sure.
So here's a blanket "Happy Birthday" to all of you celebrating for the rest of the year and wishing you a special, wonderful day.
The gym - I think I can do better on upper body strength training here at home using free weights and bands, mainly due to my cranky left shoulder. Leg machines are OK. Plus the treadmill, 3 mph was easy despite cranky feet, lol. Welcome to the age of cranky body parts, right? Will be especially useful when the weather turns nasty this winter and I can't get morning walks in and outside chores done.
Allie - sorry you had a rough night. Could part of the problem be that weight loss drug you are on? My diabetic neighbor had to abandon Ozempic because of the diarrhea. Hope your tummy gets straightened out and you can catch up on your sleep.
It's supposed to dry off a little this afternoon and hopefully I can get some long-overdue weed eating done out front, cranky shoulder and all, lol. Nights still in the 40's and I turn the furnace on in early morning.
Speaking of weed eating - Kylia, we miss you! Hope you are super busy at work selling weed eaters and things are going well at your house.
Sun's out. Make it a good week!

Morning peeps
Janie (sis) was the only one who called me on my day to wish me happy birthday. At the end of the day on fb, I posted “ Thank you all for your birthday wishes. And for those of you who forgot, …. What can I say (”. Last night at 10 pm (day after bday) my sister in law posted happy birthday. Kind of bummed she or tony didn’t remember. Kirby was really pissed
It is a bummer! There has been years that my sisters didn't say anything, and my boys never seem to remember, and nothing really goes on. Its a day like any other. No gifts no cards, no cake. Husband says happy birthday to me with a hug, so that's sweet.
Know that if in a reality where we all lived on a particular street, lets call this street Fitness Pal Lane, you better bet we would celebrate our birthdays all together. Like have a progressional dinner. Allie could do appetizers, then we'd all go to Machka's for salad, then mine for soup. Lanette could be main course, and finally Heather could be dessert or cake....then we'd finish at Barbie's for coffee. After an hour, we'd do a couple more laps around our street as our "evening constitution" and to walk our pets.💖.
Hugs!

When I was building my brick flowerbed, I bought the plants FAR too early... three of them were Columbines, and by the time it came to planting them, they just seemed like they weren't going to make it. They were yellowed, and dry and wilted, and I decided I didn't quite have room for them, and put them in the front flowerbed instead. Took this image this morning. Each bloom about as big as both my thumbs together:

Pip ~ Your patio looks lovely with the painted pots and plants. You have a good eye for decorating.
Flea ~ Loved looking at the photograph of the canyon.

MFP Weekly Check-In 5-27-24
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - Weighed Sunday morning- 149.0. Down 2.2lbs. Haven't lost that much in MONTHS. So much nicer to see than a gain or a .2 loss for the week. Back in the 140's- it has been a LONG time since I was there. Heading in the right direction.
Sue in WA State - Missed water exercise Tuesday morning due to appointment with sleep doc, but otherwise did well with exercise this week. Holding steady on weight. Did better on water consumption, averaged 56 or more oz per day. Joined the gut biome plan here on MFP. It is just 7 days of info and tips. Have finished day 4. Trying to increase fiber and water, cut down sugar.
Rita in Roswell, NM - Not a good week weight wise. Extra exercise and eating made my weight go up. My script for Jardiance is ready, I just have to pay for it. I hope it helps. I really need to get a handle on this!
Evelyn on Vancouver Island - I’m finally back on the wagon! Again…. lol After a few rough months I managed to eke out a bit of a loss and I am ending May weighing less than I ended March. I was back at the gym on Saturday and walked with a friend on Sunday but stayed up too late and was coughing too much so skipped the gym today but did do a bit of a workout at home. Baby steps!
Lanette SW WA State – weight holding steady in desired range. Working on increasing water intake and going to the gym at least once per week. Surprised and happy to discover a couple pairs of jeans I couldn’t pull above my knees 6 months ago can now be pulled all the way up over my hips and even zipped…. NOT real comfortable and no sitting down in them but heading in the right direction.

Well we heard from toxic tenant again saying she is going to take us to court. We sent a letter to her dad saying we would not be returning the deposit he made for her and why. It was a form letter and we were required by law to send it. I don't really believe she will do it as she has no lawyer even though she claimed to have. She never could give us a name or contact info but wanted us to send all information to her lawyer. If she really does take us to court we will counter sue.
Otherwise a nice day. We have corn on the cob for dinner with steak. I will add a salad.
Heather - hang in there, not long now.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA7 -
Worked then went to Lowe’s Hardware and Uhaul to get boxes. Took my walk around the neighborhood.
Rebecca – at that price, you can live with the cabinets and floor
LisaSkuraton – welcome
M – I thought Vince read that in one of his “uncle John” books. Me bad. Maybe it was him asking me which continent didn’t get tornadoes. Thanks for calling me out on that.
Lisa – the plan for tomorrow is to cut the grass. Well, at least I know I’ll get my steps in...lol
Lanette – I don’t announce my birthday. To me, it’s just another day in the year.
Pip – I understand your feeling about not being wished a birthday. Hey, I didn’t get a card or even a phone call from Denise for Mother’s Day. It s***s but it is what it is
Ceramics tonight. No bowling today.

There are six of us left. There are some I wouldn’t expect a card, call or anything, that’s no big deal. There are only 2 janie and tony that I kept in contact with. Joey, (year older)I got a relationship with again, especially when I moved back. I always called or texted them on their birthdays. I know I shouldn’t expect anything back, years of therapy taught me that. Birthdays are no big deal, I just light to commemorate 30, 35, 40, 45, etc… birthdays, the others are just another day. In a lot of ways I’m still the little kid that lived with a family that I felt didn’t give a s$*t and I just have to live with that.10 -

My hip was really painful today. I had to let John make the sandwiches for lunch. Coming down stairs, I had to sit down and bottom shuffle. Real shooting pain.
I'm enjoying my alcohol wipes. They are great for the phone, tablet, remotes, light switches, spectacles, door handles etc I'm not normally a germaphobe, but I don't want to recontaminate my super clean body and nose! All clean clothes again tomorrow.
The cleaner did a good job today. It is all very shiny.
John is going out tomorrow to get food for the kids dinner. They won't need masses as he is taking them out to Fatto a Mano for lunch, after a walk to the art shop on the way. They can pick out something to do in the afternoon. I'm going to cook gluten free sausages for all of us. The butcher makes their own. With salad and pitta. I have ice cream, strawberries, gluten free chocolate chip cookies and caramel sauce for dessert. Still to decide on breakfast.
Tomorrow I have a blood test at the hospital. A quick taxi there and back.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -

Beth - I was just thinking of you.
I've started to read "Why We Remember: Unlocking Memory's Power to Hold on to What Matters" by Charan Ranganath. He describes how infants learn to hear and understand syllables and language - how the neurons in their brains "cast votes" when they hear the sounds "bath" and "path", and the winning votes learn to connect "bath" with bathing. Eventually the votes for "path" are discarded and the votes for "bath" are strengthened.
(Our brains remain plastic as we age, so I also wonder how memory works and doesn't work as we near the age where we can't function well if our memory isn't so good. And what works to keep the spark thriving. I saw the author in a YouTube interview with Dr. Chatterjee. Had to order the book from the library and go down that rabbit hole. )
I am wondering how your implant is doing, and if the neurons in you brain are doing some scurrying around in a similar fashion now that they are dealing with sound again.
How's your mom?

Lisa - I hope Corey had a good nights rest, I can’t wait to see this quilt.
The grade 5’s are learning how to use watercolour pencils, I personally had never used them before but think I need to get some ordered for myself. I have tried watercolour paint and was not a fan.
Pip - Happy Birthday!!!
I love how you give new life to things.
Kelly - it’s great that DH getting attention has helped you as well.
It’s always wonderful when we connect.
Allie - congratulations, what a cute announcement.
Machka - Hobart was the answer to a clue in Jeopardy Masters today.
Sue - I need to go buy some geraniums as well. They do seem to help.
That tenant seems to like to spout off, I would be surprised if a lawyer took her “case” on.
Michele - we have tornadoes here too. Ours aren’t as devastating as those in the states every year but we have had some fatalities from them.
I probably would have moved the dishes so I could get at the plug to help. I have gone and helped our daughter several times, she struggles with some things that makes it difficult for her to keep up. She was only diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago and that has helped her immensely with keeping up with the house. The kids are also older now and help out more.
Annie - my youngest and her husband mix their decaf and caffeinated coffee to limit their caffeine. You could try that with your father. I’m thinking of doing it to my husband as I think that contributes to his sleep issues, problem is he is the one that fills the coffee jar more than me.
Lanette - I had friends on Ozempic and they complained about diarrhea too, but they said it only lasted about a month and then straightened itself out.
Birthdays - I tend to get celebrated on my birthday mostly because I share it with Jonah. We do try to acknowledge everyone’s birthdays in the family but sometimes it’s just a FB message. I used to send cards to everyone but quit when I didn’t even get a thank you or acknowledgment that it was received.
Heather - it’s great that you are on the final days before surgery. Keep those germs away!
I forgot to post last night so this is a couple of days comments.
I had a good day at work today, I’m going to share a funny little story. The teacher I'm working with was off today, the kids have been trying for months to figure out how old he is because he is starting to lose his hair and they know it bothers him so keep telling him he's old.
Anyway, his 30th was yesterday, and they knew it was around this time just not exactly.
Assignments these days are mostly added to their Google Classrooms so for math today he had the sub give them their new assignment. It was a 17 question riddle for them to figure out his birth year.
He had a list of probably 20 years that were possibly his birth year. Starting in 1890 to 2004, by process of elimination they could by looking up different things they could make a guess and submit it.
Some of the questions I saw were
The last two digits in year WWII ended doubled plus 1.
The years the Oilers won the Stanley cup
The first two digits after the decimal of the gravitational pull used in a math equation.
Anyway, the last stated he knew that it wasn't going to eliminate all of the years but he thought they could make a guess from that.
I overheard one of them think he's 45, another though he was born in 1989.
It was fun watching them today

Margaret thank you too. It helps to know I'm not alone with these challenges. I'm reluctant to put up the door chime because that will be the end of my sleeping through the night. He gets up in the early morning to get the newspaper then goes back to sleep.
Lanette yes he is getting worse. More restless. I would like to wean him off of the caffeine, maybe eventually...and congrats on going to the gym! It's tough to start, and get the right stuff in the right places. You are doing a great job, building a habit!

In the brain injury community we have a little saying:
"If you've seen one brain injury ... you've seen one brain injury."
When it comes to brains, they're all different.
Of course, there are a few commonalities, but you just never know.
