Good morning ladies!
Tracey my Dad gets his caffeine from Pepsi soda and Starbucks coffee ice cream. Not good for him, I know.
Machka you are right. My mom was happy to just sit on the couch and read or watch TV. My Dad likes to be moving around caught up in some project. His thyroid is a little high, which might be part of it. They raised his dose back when he was missing a lot of pills. They will check it again in July, which is a long time to wait.
My sister is here which is marvelous. She took dad walking last night and took him out for ice cream. My aunt Donna is telling her that Dad should be in a memory care home. I'm hoping to keep him at home for a bit longer. But we are still in the stage of gathering information.
Today I have a meeting with the local senior center about their day care memory program. That would be four hours long three times a week. So that would give me time for groceries and my doctors and errands and such. But it wouldn't cover the time I go horseback riding. I might have to get a sitter for that, or else quit.
And I guess I need to put up with a chime on the doors. It will go off when he gets ice cream from the garage at night, and when he gets the paper in the morning. So I won't be sleeping through the night anymore. Just like having an infant in the house. But it won't last forever.
Have a wonderful day! May you be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Good morning from the deep, dark reaches of the Ozark Mountains (dark because it's night time, I might add),
Cor's still asleep - his permanent crown will be put in at the dentist today, so he can sleep in for a bit.
Today's organ recital:Your intrepid correspondent, me, is hanging her head at her own propensity to be a complete and utter goober on occasion. I was feeling kinda awful yesterday after I got the lawn mowed. So I sat down and cooled down enough to get in the shower. Just kept feeling headachy and rotten.
If it was a cartoon, a light bulb would have gone off over my head. So I took my blood pressure with the cuff I was using four years ago when I was diagnosed with A-fib. It was 89 over 57. My cardiologist would have had a dang fit. I know the meds affect my heat tolerance, but chose not to remember, for whatever reason.
So, I moved around gently in the air conditioning, got my blood moving a bit, had a cookie, and got it up to 96 over 68. For those who aren't hip to blood pressure (why would you be?) mine is ordinarily about 108 over 75 on the medication I'm taking. The A-fib will (and did) make my blood pressure swing wildly, but the beta blocker keeps it in a steady, lower range without driving it too low. Most of the time.
Unfortunately, it also keeps the blood from moving to my skin to try to cool me down. As an aside, that's why people get flushed when they get hot--it's their body's attempt to cool them back down again by increased circulation at skin level. Beta-blockers stop that from happening, and I just couldn't cool down enough. Not bright on my part - I know better!
Anyway...
Tracey - I'm really liking the watercolor pencils. You can either wet them and lay down a smooth color or use them very precisely like any colored pencil and then go back with a brush and water and move the color around to get gradations and shading of watercolor. This is the piece I'm working on at the moment, and you can see the colors better. I'm just using a fine-tipped Sharpie for the outlining, and it lends even more of that precision feel that I'm looking for. The tutorial that I watched used regular watercolor paints, but I thought these would work, and I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome. You can find the tutorial on my FB page a few days back. The teacher sounds wonderful - what a terrific way to pique the kids' curiosity! Is this the first male teacher you've worked with?
Slept well, and woke up hungry for some reason...

Lisa- after my heart surgeries, I was told I could no longer mow lawns or snow blow or shovel snow.. take heed girlfriend.
Another night of intermittent sleep and the dog barking at 5 this morning..
When I started on the Trulicity i was 223
Fully clothed
Today I got on the scale nakie and im 209 ..its working..but i have a feeling im going to need a nap ..🥱4 -
Allie - Thanks for that reminder, eventually I'll remember I'm not 10 feet tall and bulletproof! 😄 So pleased the Trulicity is helping, but give yourself some credit too, dear heart. You're making better choices, and you're moving more, and it's showing. Well done!
Haven't had one in a week or two, and today is apparently the day the entire gut is going to go into spasm as everything fights for the exit. Ah well, I had no plans anyway.
Toodles!

Tuesday ... work, work, work.
Sort of frustrating as I wade my way through the financial system trying to get the data I need. Finally figured out how I could do it and moved onto the next thing ... and my totals don't match. I think there's a reason why they don't and I hope it's in my notes. But by then I was ready to come home. I'll look into it tomorrow.
Left at 5:15 pm in pitch dark. We're racing toward the darkest month of the year.
I have to take Vit D simply because I barely see daylight for several months.
Came home and continued working on a project for my cycling organisation ... making some suggestions for a website redesign. It's been redesigned but there are bits and pieces of the old still in there in random locations, and some of it was just kind of piled into menus or links without order.
This started with me offering to design one page of the website. Ha! I can't help myself. Before I knew it I had my fingers on all the pages.
I've also been washing down sleeping bags with a "down wash" detergent. We've been using them when camping in our new house and I discovered that they're all slightly musty with one of my husband's being really musty. I washed it twice. Now they're in the "lying out in front of the split system while I fluff them periodically" stage.

Neighbor had me over for Memorial Day. I brought deviled eggs because our tradition was to go to my sister-in-law condo in Wisconsin Dells. They had a big cook out. You bought either a steak or chicken and then those at the condo would bring a side. DSIL would always make deviled eggs.
My friend, Jeannie, who I mentioned had dementia and three types of cancer passed away on Sunday. It did not come as a shock. Once in Hospice she went fairly quickly. She was 82. One of her daughters was flying back and forth from Seattle. Her DH is not in the best of health. Praying for the family at this time.7 -
Lanette ...My brain is definitely in a scramble! An example by Dr. Carol Flexer was used this past week in one of my hearing rehab sessions that most people misunderstand hearing loss; thinking they can't hear because of their ears. In truth, the reason you can't hear is that the brain isn't able to decipher auditory information. It was explained that the ears are simply the doors to the brain and when the door is jammed or blocked or slammed shut, the brain doesn't get the information it needs to hear. So my implant is now the new "door" to my brain. https://youtu.be/uTaYu5R45a4?si=bkokQ7QIbq_pwEO-
Sound enters the processor that feeds to a coil that is being held by a magnet to my head/receiver and that information is now sent to the cochlea through electrodes that send electronic impulses to my brain. It does not sound natural at this point ... very digital ... but when you haven't understood anything for years, it's amazing.
Interestingly, I'm doing similar exercises as you described regarding language. I have workbooks where a partner reads two similar sound words to me and then repeats only one of the words for me to decide what I'm hearing. Like peep and pip. Or toast and most. Feel like I'm back in grade school, but my "hearing" is getting better! I am constantly asking my family "what was that?" I also need to have my thresholds increased (sound turned up). As a hearing person, you hear sounds that the brain recognizes but pushes to the background ... like a turn signal or the coffee pot dripping, or ice dropping from an icemaker. You just get used to the noise around you. Because I haven't heard in decades, they could not set my implant to "full volume" or my brain would have been overwhelmed with too much
information at once. I'm set for another increase on Friday and then some "mapping" in June.
My mom ... is currently beginning week 2 of therapy in the rehab center. I don't think she is gaining much in rehab, although I may be mistaken, and I'm preparing for the reality of long term care
(nursing home). Her dementia is noticeably present at this time. Too much confusion and change. Yesterday she could not remember my husband's or son's names when they visited. Sigh.
Annie ... my heart hears your fears and worries regarding your dad. I'm hoping you and your sister can find the care that is most appropriate for your dad at this time. Realize it's a process and what works this month can change in a month's time.
Heather ... I am praying that your surgery is able to take place as planned and you soon get relief from your pain!
Rainy day near Buffalo.

Thank you Beth. And thank you anyone else who is well wishing me. I'm fascinated to read your experiences, Beth.
Today I went for the final check on blood group, and antibodies. I was sitting in the wrong waiting room, so the nurse had to come and find me.
Doing LOTS of washing. We don't have a dryer, so the dining room is festooned with clothes. I got my hair to behave today, so that's something. Rainy and windy here.
Lisa - Nice drawing/painting. I do have watercolour pencils, but have rarely used them. I like the watercolour pens, if I don't feel like getting the whole shebang out. I expect there will be some kind of 'Art' tomorrow with the girls. Edie is very good about helping set up and clear up.
Sorry about the BP problems.
I've ordered a new cross body bag from Amazon. I need something lighter for afterwards, if I go out with a stick. I've chosen a stone colour, which is unusual for me, but I think it will go with everything and look summery. Soooooo cheap! Hope it doesn't look too plasticky. Great reviews.
Zoom this afternoon with my old schoolfriends.
Seabass for dinner with roasted cauliflower and sauce vierge. Stewed apple and summer berries for dessert. I'm really enjoying my no alcohol regime. It's so easy when you just can't!

hi gals,
just a quick note.... I discovered something new to me this weekend which I had to share.
Most mornings at my house start with a decafe non fat latte (yes I have an expresso machine with a milk steamer) and while I drink it like that I love to have it sweetened, so that is usually a big treat. But I gathered with my god kids and one of them had a "orange latte" sounded awful but I had a sip and it was great ! and tasted lightly sweet, so I asked about it. It is a decafe non fat latte with a teaspoon or so of orange extract - ZERO calories !!!! - and none of the non-sugar sweeteners that each have their own issues. I did it this morning and am in heaven. She suggested coconut extract, and raspberry extract. I asked about vanilla and she said it wasn't bad but not as good as the others. I guess the sweet smell fakes out our taste buds.
Anyway these types of adjustments is one of my favorite things I have done to get and keep weight off. Small changes to everyday life that I still love -not depriving myself but shaving calories and adding movement even in small ways. Some of us have made huge changes, some of us (me) are doing though a series of many many small changes.
have a great week.

My mind is simply blank this morning. Tired all ready! I got up then went picking up litter all over the dayside of the park. Came home after an hour then sat down and had breakfast and green tea. No more coffee for me, it gives me stomach pains due to the colitis. Before long I’ll be on a water diet!! It is what it is. I now have to go turn the water off the lawn and switch to the other side. Simply get tired easily these days. Be back in a bit.

Beth - Wow! How timely that I find info about how infant brains learn to differentiate sounds in a book about memory, of all things, as you are experiencing the same thing training your own brain with the implant.
Now I'm starting to wonder why, as we age, many of us start to suffer hearing loss. I always thought it was due to listening to too much rock n' roll and damaging our eardrums and the "outer" part of our hearing apparatus. But now... are our aging brains just not as keen at matching sounds with words as well? The neurons are getting too tired to "vote" so they are letting sound become mush? And if so, can anything be done about it naturally? Will I ever run out of rabbit holes? Hope not.
Lisa - those columbines are beautiful and huge compared to what I have growing here. I have a lot of volunteers, smaller blooms - about the size of a quarter - and different colors. Also have a lot of volunteer snapdragons, lemon balm, fever few. I try to focus on them and ignore the thistles and blackberries, lol. Very glad you recognized what happened with that episode yesterday. Whew.
Kim - great coffee addition suggestions. Neat flavor without the calories. Thanks for sharing that info.
Heather - the countdown continues, all systems go. Sounds like you are getting well prepared for a trouble-free and barrier-free recovery. Nice bag, should work great for your needs.

Worked then went to Lowe’s Hardware and Uhaul to get boxes. Took my walk around the neighborhood.
Rebecca – at that price, you can live with the cabinets and floor
LisaSkuraton – welcome
M – I thought Vince read that in one of his “uncle John” books. Me bad. Maybe it was him asking me which continent didn’t get tornadoes. Thanks for calling me out on that.
Lisa – the plan for tomorrow is to cut the grass. Well, at least I know I’ll get my steps in...lol
Lanette – I don’t announce my birthday. To me, it’s just another day in the year.
Pip – I understand your feeling about not being wished a birthday. Hey, I didn’t get a card or even a phone call from Denise for Mother’s Day. It s***s but it is what it is
Ceramics tonight. No bowling today.

My doctor friend B was a but concerned about the kids staying over tomorrow. I shall keep pretty much out of their way, (it takes me most of the morning to get through my cleanjng regime), and wear a good mask around them. They are arriving at 7.30 a m. John is taking them out late morning and for lunch. I've told my son to tell them I won't be able to do much with them, though I will cook dinner. If I do any Art, I will mask up. I still have the better covid ones. They don't have any obvious illnesses.
I really wish we weren't having to do it, but I can’t see any alternative. John is prepared to step up.
My son is very excited and nervous about the holiday. He says he just wants to get up the mountain.

Hello, ladies. It is hard to keep up with you all. I've seen cute haircuts, birthdays, beautiful flooring done, adorable grandchildren, learned about hair color, and seen some outstanding artwork.
@pipcd34, you are kicking butt with your workouts. You all have such busy lives, and it appears that you are having fun.
My husband is visiting me in less than three weeks. It will be good to see him. I should use my time off to get some scrapbooking done. I am supposed to go to Shaggy's on the reservoir, but I am tired. I only slept 3-4 hours last night. My foot hurts. I did lose this week. My son moved into his new place in New York for the summer. I am hoping they will have a dorm for him in the fall. He prefers staying in Manhattan. He wants me to visit; we will see. Have a great night, everyone.9 -
Still trying to get my phone unlocked. At least I have sorted out my iPad. I had to do a factory reset, which was a pain, but not as bad as I had expected.

Mo in Mississippi ( @mcmillonmail ) - We do, indeed, move fast, but believe me when I say most of us can't keep up with even half of us, though some do try! Great props to those who do, but I can't. Congrats on continuing to lose! Not easy when you're laid up and hurting, as many of us know. I'm still trying to train our son and daughter that they need to visit us, not the other way around. It's only the Crohn's disease that keeps me close to home that has finally convinced them, I think. Our son is planning to be here for lunch for Father's Day, and our daughter was here in January. Fingers crossed, we might be able to see her in July when she's in San Antonio for training. If she can get a weekend pass, she'll swan up here, but not holding my breath.
Margaret - So sorry about your friend.
Heather - Just thinking about you, my dear friend. Enjoy your grands, while not letting the germy little blighters breathe on you... you'll do fine, I'm sure. Soon you'll be in recovery mode, and amazing the docs with your post-op progress. Hope your son and his bride enjoy their "holiday," even though it seems awfully strenuous for a holiday! Wouldn't be younger for anything in the world, but wouldn't mind having the energy of those years.
Allie - Dan looks like a tremendously social soul - and our two couldn't be more different from each other if they tried, either. I hear this regularly on the phone, believe me!
Cor's been home all day, didn't realize he wasn't going to go back to work after the dentist until he was on his way out the door to his appointment--but they didn't numb him up for seating the crown, so he had some energy this afternoon, and got some more of the siding down.
So a productive "sick day," for him, and I got one more panel done on my quilt, plus the last two panels completely prepped for quilting. In the meantime, I got another piece half done of what's turning out to be a quadriptych (had to look it up) or a four-piece grouping once it's framed. Realized, in the end, that I'm learning to create a colored page in reverse... color first, then lines. Does keep you from coloring outside the lines... 😜
Pasta and mushrooms with pesto for me... it was punt night, as in "drop back ten yards and punt," or "whatever you want to make for yourself, have at it." Corey's chicken nuggets and tater tots did not sound appetizing... 😄
Later, y'all,

All your "talk" about pesto Lisa has taken over my food brain..... and I ran into the Grocery Outlet a discount place near me for some yogurt, and saw ravioli on sale for $1.99 one of the fancy fresh brands - it's 4 servings.... so 50 cents a serving is well within the budget and pesto from the freezer from last years basil.... a salad and I am going to be in food heaven in about an hour!

Bahahahahaha! My evil plan is working! 😁😈😄 Truly, the small amount of pesto necessary to add incredible taste isn't a huge number of calories to add to a salad for you, or mushrooms for me. I've frozen a lot of that last batch, and am interested to see how it handles freezing.1 -

A lot of physical things have their source in the brain.
In my husband's case, physically ... as in his limbs, eyes, etc. ... he's OK.
But because of the brain damage, his left leg and right arm are weaker, and especially with his left leg, he feels like it doesn't have feeling, and he loses track of it which makes walking difficult. His leg itself is fine, but there is a significant disconnect between his brain and his leg.
And the reason he has double vision is because his optical nerve was damaged, in his brain. (Whereas my double vision has to do with dry eyes).

I put on my big girl pants today and called the oral surgeon to make an appointment. The consultation will be June 25 so I will put it out of my mind until then. I have two fillings scheduled for June 17 so that should be tended to by the time I have to deal with the extraction. Thank you all for your encouraging words.
mmmm, pesto sounds great.

Margaret: Sympathy on your loss.

Pip: Very belated, but sincere happy birthday. The big 65 definitely merits a bit of a fuss.
Not much happening here. Since my sports teams are done for the season, I've signed up to work concerts. This Thursday I will be backstage for Stevie Nicks. Also will work load in day shifts at Red Rocks. It's all outside work so no worries about getting enough sunshine here.
Condo pool opened this weekend. I love lap swimming but also want more variety. Does anyone have a preferred site for learning deep water exercises?
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Machka - I don’t remember what the jeopardy clue was now. The category was places that start with H though.
Annie - I get caffeine from Coke so I get it. I think at a certain point in life people should be allowed to enjoy things without worry. I have told my family that they better not ever try to restrict my diet or junk food addiction when I’m getting up there in age or am in a home of some sort.
Can you move the ice cream into the fridge freezer?
Lisa - That’s a pretty painting. This is the first male teacher I’m working with, as a matter of fact there are 3 males I’m working with here. The other grade 5 teacher is also male, the two classes are small one has 17 and one has 15 students. Too many for one teacher to have them combined, these classes meet up and do different things together. The music teacher is also male. I’m enjoying it.
Is a week or two a longer break than it has been for your gut to act up?
Margaret - Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Beth - I learned about cochlear implants and such a tiny bit in my course, but we did learn about how they work so that if we had a student we could help and understand. I’m glad that it’s working out for you.
Sorry your mom’s dementia is accelerating.
My vision is similar, it’s not an actual eyesight problem I have it’s how my brain interprets what it sees. I’ve tried for years and years hoping to get contacts or surgery, but it was only on the last decade a doctor finally explained it in a way I could understand that I probably would never have that option.
Heather - I think you are doing everything you can to make sure you are as healthy as possible for your surgery. Good job!
Mo - I scrapbook as well, currently working on an album for my daughter’s wedding 5 years ago in July (I was reminded that her sister for hers for a gift for their first Christmas) I’m aiming for their anniversary but it may be Christmas too. 😂
Another good day at school, all afternoon was Jump rope for heart. The two students (brothers)that were able to get the top dollar in donations were given the opportunity to pour buckets of water over the principal’s head. Unbeknownst to the principal the teachers that were organizing it also gave them two buckets of glitter. He looked like a disco ball!
He then went and gave high five’s and hugs to the students. He’ll be washing glitter out of his hair for weeks to come!
I went to Costco tonight, I buy some of our staples there because it’s cheaper and it’s very close to me. I noticed that PlayStation 5’s were on sale and knew that my SIL was hoping to have enough left after his car repairs to buy a new gaming system so I told my daughter. My SIL wants XBox but I received this text from my grandson. I love this kid so much.
