3 hours of wall-washing today, and it's done!!
Next up ... taping.
Yes, my life really is this exciting!
This is a 4-day weekend (King's Birthday) so hopefully we'll get to the painting stage.
Meanwhile, it was a decent workout, especially for my arms.
This was last weekend as the cardboard was going down - another step in preparation for painting.

Machka - This sounds like an unsettling experience, but it looks like you are figuring out how/why it can happen. I find that understanding the reason why for things really helps me to process and takes out some of the sting. Is there a way you can reduce your stress? Do deep breathing to bring in your parasympathetic nervous system? I had to do that with work and it really helps. Or maybe some reframing?
There's a bit of a story regarding my stress ...
Everything was going along relatively nicely and then ...2018: My husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. He was in a coma for 3 weeks, and in hospital for a total of 100 days.
And suddenly I became a carer ... and I am not a natural carer.
He has had a "remarkable" recovery (given that they initially told me I'd need to find him a nursing home) but still has a lot of physical and cognitive issues. Since the accident, he developed epilepsy and has had a mild heart attack. All related, we think. So, he can't work or drive and everything moves slowly and takes a lot of time.
Over the next 5 years, I ...
- worked full time
- took care of my husband by taking him to multiple medical appointments, taking on a lot more around the house, etc. etc.
- finished my Master's degree
- and prepared hundreds of pages of documentation for our 2 lawyers in a worker's compensation battle.
There was almost no downtime, lots of very late nights, and not much sleep. If I wasn't at work, I was with my husband and/or working on something for uni or legals or whatever.
December 2020: I graduated and shortly after that the legal stuff really ramped up.
At last, almost a year ago, our case was settled! WooHoo! A few minutes of relaxation!
Then there was a trip to Canada for the first time in 6 years to see my parents and other family. Travelling with my husband required a lot of careful planning and stress. My parents have deteriorated and they would really like me to move to Canada or at least to spend more time there, but I can't right now. And just to emphasize that, my mother had some sort of episode in early December. From way over here, I wasn't sure what was going on because my father couldn't explain it. I'm still not sure.
This past summer (December/January) my husband and I got COVID and I noticed that my husband has deteriorated a bit. The specialists have all told me that he will begin to deteriorate "soon" (right from the beginning they've said "within 5 years") so I'm not sure if that's what's going on or if the COVID really knocked him around. But the gardening he was doing has nearly stopped and I began doing most of it.
Right around the end of January, suddenly it was time to move into an easier place to live. I knew it was coming, but didn't expect it to be now. We currently rent a 2-level house on quite a steep hill and he's been having more and more difficulty getting around. He's had some falls too.
We started enquiring about places and putting in offers, but it's a competitive market here so we missed out on a few. At the beginning of April, we finally bought a house! First house I've ever owned, which is scary for me. It's all one level on a relatively flat lot. But then began the process of renos and moving. We've had the floors done and plan to paint this weekend.
I did most of the prep work this past weekend which was a whole lot more effort than I anticipated!! I've got just a little bit to finish. And I'll probably do most of the painting, but he wants to help, so we'll see how he goes.
He's struggling with the process of moving house. He's trying very hard to help, but he gets so tired, a bit confused, and his short-term memory isn't very good. I explain a lot of things over and over. And things he could do in a couple days pre-accident take him weeks or months now.
Meanwhile at work, I am in a fixed-term position in an area I like so I have been applying for positions to try to stay in that area (which is quite a lengthy process in Australia) and attending interviews. Feels like a whole series of final exams. I do have a substantive position in another area, but I'd prefer to stay where I am.
Then last Friday I was told there might be an audit of what I do. That's OK. I'm prepared, but still ... just a little bit of extra stress on top of everything else. And the migraine began.
I ran across this today and it made me smile.
Not sure if the attribution is correct or not, but we'll pretend it is.
So, speaking of stress ... what do we all do to relax?
- when I get home from work, I walk our cat on his harness and leash.
- I colour ... and love all my different pens.
- I read, especially at night before a weekend day.
- I sleep in on weekend days.
- I walk at lunch, and sometimes browse in shops.
- and sometimes I take photos.
I'm also one who likes to get the stressful stuff done and out of the way, if possible ... even if it takes months or years. I keep working on whatever it is telling myself I'll relax when I'm done.

Getting in a bit of relaxation:
Reading: I finished reading a book the night before last and started a new book last night.
Colouring: A quick one trying out some new pens.

We harvested our first crop of salad leaves, in Hove, today. Not huge, but we only sowed the 'cut and come again ' lettuce a few weeks ago! Celebrating our success.
Had a long chat with G this morning. Still progressing on the physio. I had a shower this morning. Very carefully!
Microwave arrives today. Plus a white T shirt for John. He has thrown out several old T shirts and has bought some new coloured ones. I said I wanted him to get a white one, but he was a bit surprised. I explained he could wear it under an open linen shirt for a lunch out etc. So I'm buying him one! He has a lovely black one I bought him, which also looks good under a linen shirt.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
My dad has a runny nose, so I suppose the responsible thing to do is to get him tested for COVID. Drat. He's been vaccinated, so I'm not too worried. But I don't know about this Omicron variant. And it would keep him home from the senior center.
He went to the hymn sing and Bible study session at the senior center yesterday. So I got a shower while he was occupied.
My cousin is coming to visit today. It will be good to see him.
Have a great day! May you be happy healthy safe and free!

Machka - I look forward to seeing the final result! I think you're going to love your new home. Not least because you have the option to change or not change anything you like.
Quiet day in progress here, for everything but my gut, which is in a bit of an uproar. Not at its worst, thank goodness, but not good.
I typed it out here, that I was going to have to put the heat-reflective curtains up soon, as the sun is already getting unbearable in the afternoons... and realized I couldn't stand the thought of living in the dark all summer again. So I measured all the windows again and ordered the reflective window clings. They've brought out the static cling types, which will mean I don't have to deal with adhesives, much less forgiving. I'm going to try them out. It's not about privacy, but about reflecting the heat. We'll see if they work. About a third the price through Walmart.com as they were through Amazon, and shipped in tomorrow, which Amazon is no longer good about at all out here.
Cut my fingers in three different places yesterday making dinner. Have I said I don't like to cook? I really don't.
Back to my doings. Hope everyone's having a good Friday.
Love,
Lisa in aR7 -

Lanette I am surprised it would have much starch in a pre-diabetic diet. Starch can act like sugar and needs to be eaten moderately. Listened to a talk on fats last night. Good fats like olive and coconut oil are better because of minimal processing. Again eating the good fats in moderation...Corn, soy, some canola oil are often heavily processed and need to be avoided. They are used because they have no flavor and for some recipe this is what is needed. This does not mean it is good for you. Same with margarine because it is so heavily processed. Grassfed organic butter is a much better choice. Yes, it is more expensive and still cheaper long term in regard to your health. Fried foods are the worst because already highly processed oil is heated to a high heat and often reused which creates very unhealthy food. Avoid if possible ...hence donuts and french fries which are fried in this highly processed oil.
He also went on to say that 73% of the American diet is processed. His theory is this is why so many overeat. One cannot get the nutrition they need eating this way. Hence they overeat because they are starved for nutrition.4 -
Going to GP today for blood work review. Like Lisa, I think my thyroid is off. I have been so sleepy lately. I go to bet at 9:00- 9:30 maybe read for 30 min, maybe not, then get up at 7:30 am or later (8:30 this morning) (9:00 another day this week) and I took a nap yesterday for about 90 minutes! This is not normal for me or anyone. I don’t feel depressed, just extremely tired. I will definitely mention it to the NP today.
Started my Jardiance yesterday. I don’t know if it is psychological, but it cut my appetite and cravings the first day on it! I hope it keeps up. Stopping the wine as I don’t think it is helping me, it is making me foggy during the day and edging toward depression, so no more wine either. Between the two, I should drop the excess weight which will also help my energy levels. Therapist yesterday didn’t change anything and is happy with my progress and feels the meds I’m on fit me well for now. Glad about that! Speaking of meds, I spend about $120 a month on dog meds then worry about spending 95 on me for 3 months of meds. I love my dogs, but simply can’t keep doing this. Brownie is 12 years old and has heart failure. I hate to do it but am thinking about not getting her expensive vetmed any more. She can’t hold her water any more and I’m changing bed sheets every day due to her having accidents. Getting her diapers is out of the question as I know this dog, she would bite me when I put it on and then tear it off after. I’m not sleeping well because of her either. I feel bad but don’t don’t what to do about her. I hate that I need to decide on meds for me or for a dog……. Part of my not sleeping well I think.

Rebecca--Your driveway looks nice. We had ours blacktopped acouple years ago.
When I get off work this afternoon I am on vacation until Monday June 17th. We are going to a motorcycle ralley in Debuke, IA and just looking forward to getting away. Not sure if I will have internet or not. Take care ladies.

Rita - That's not a good choice to have to make, not in the slightest. I've said it before, but I asked the doc during my very short time working at a vet clinic what he told people about when to know it was time to let a pet go. His answer was "when they have more bad days than good." I don't know if that's helpful, but I do think your health is the most important thing. Not easy, even so.
Allie - I hope things go very well with the pregnancy - if Tracey delivers in July, how early will that be?
My gut has finally settled down, which I appreciate. I might yet get out and mow the lawn, but Corey really does enjoy it, too... and there's not much planned for the weekend that I'm aware of. Not hard work, just sitting on the big mower. Will think about it a little more. In the meantime, dishes are washed, last load in the laundry... had a setback on my quilt, correcting a major mistake in one of the shelves, but it will only improve the end quilt to drop back and correct it. No worries.
Streaming Beyond Paradise, and McDonald and Dodds, both on BritBox. When I want to sit down for a fair while, I'll start one of those, as when I start them I can't stop. Cancelled all my streaming except Prime and Acorn, but I have a few days left on BritBox and the others.
Later, my dears,

Lanette, I follow (well, am supposed to be a following) a metabolic reboot eating plan developed by a nutritionist who focuses on women’s hormonal health. I wonder how it compares to your pre-diabetic diet, since we talk a lot about insulin resistance in addition to metabolic disease. It isn’t considered low carb per se, because we eat lots of fruit and non-starchy vegetables. Our plan consists of 3 meals and 1 snack. One of the meals is roughly 75 veggie/fruit, 25% protein, the snack is protein with a veggie or fruit if desired, and the other two meals are 50% veggie, 25% protein, and 25% carb. It is considered a good carb day if the protein macros are greater than or equal to the carbs. Although it seems very low carb to me compared to the way I used to eat, it is still a lot of carb grams compared to Keto or Atkin’s. The only fruit that we have to count as our carb is a banana. Veggies we have to call a carb are the usual high carb ones - beans, potatoes, corn, etc.
We limit added sugar to 25 g or less per day. We don’t count naturally occurring sugar in fruits or veggies in that total. We are also encouraged to get at least 25 g of fiber, preferably more. I shoot for 100-120 g of protein per day. I usually hit between 1500 and 1700 calories.
When I follow the plan, I drop around a 1/2 lb to a lb per week. Because the calorie deficit is small, it only takes a day or so of going off the charts to derail my progress. Getting right back on, however, has kept the 60 lbs I have list off. I’d like to see another 25 or so fall off, but I’m not totally unhappy where I am, since my labs are good.4 -

Well I got a cleaning jag! Moved most everything out of living room, swept, vacuumed, dusted, and reassembled wiping everything down. Husband was like, "what got into you"?😂😂
I love up ending couches so everything gets out of the cracks and I also sweep them.
