JUNE 2024 Monthly Running Challenge

Long run today - added 2km to my usual 12k forest loop. Drizzly and cool. A lot of cloud too, which was cool but the visibility wasn’t great with my dodgy long distance vision.
Good to see they’ve trimmed the fallen trees so we can get under them, although horse riders will have to duck!
Had a fab run - scoring a couple of segment PRs - but better still just felt strong and comfortable the whole way.
I suspect I was partially fueled by a build up of adrenaline thanks to watching my daughter compete in her first ever diving competition. She had a fantastic day today after rushing her dives yesterday and scoring poorly. She learned so much and really enjoyed herself.

Happy Sunday Runners!
10.3 miles so far in June!
You all are so incredibly inspiring, Thank You!
I run 4 days a week, except on vacation where I walk way too much! I seem to need more rest time as I age👵 I’ll be 67 in November. Is anyone else an old runner?5 -
29 miles to date out of 100 goal. Should get some miles in this morning also. The month seems to be moving really fast on me.
Thanks to all for your input on fueling. I can't chew gum because it upsets my stomach after a while. I tried the Skratcth but I don't like the coating of sugar they appear to have. 😳 I will stick with the saltliks I think as they seem to agree with me altho I did get some honeystingers to try. My problem is that I don't usually do excessively long runs and I am not really mindset to have fuel with me.
So I am trying out some Mizuno shoes and the first pair I got my normal 6.5 size from Amazon and was REALLY disappointed that they were too small. None of the web sites I looked at mentioned that style running small. So I returned them and orders a 7 from the Mizuno site since those were cheaper. I got those last week and they seemed a little bit tight but I decided to try a run in them as they are quite an unusual style but really intrigued me. That was a mistake. I put 5 miles on them and ended up with 2 blisters on the top of my big toes. 😕 So I decided to send them back. They are not as friendly as Amazon for returns and I need to drop them off at a mail store. We shall see if they will take them back after I did wear them. Hopefully. ANyway, I REALLY want to try these so I ended up buying a full size more which will hopefully be ok when I get them. Just really so strange as sometimes I know shoes can be a half size either way on brands but these were definitely off and not to see comments on the site or web about purchasing a larger size was odd also.
@BeverlyW1108 we have some more "experienced" runners in the group here of course. Glad to see you joining. I also have a team on RTY of mostly MFPs friends and I have to say it's very active group even tho they don't always post.

Short treadmill run before work yesterday. I am on track for my monthly goal. Given how low my mileage has been the last few months, it feels like a lot of running. I used to do this mileage as a minimum every month so I know I'll adjust. Mostly it just requires more effort to fit it into my weekly routine. But it used to feel normal so I expect it will start feeling normal again soon.
I am already using my treadmill more this summer than I usually do. It's only June and I'm already done with summer. 🫤 On the plus side, I'm working my way through a training series in Japan which is getting me excited for our trip next month.6 -
@BeverlyW1108👵 I’ll be 67 in November. Is anyone else an old runner?
My running friend P is 74.
We usually do 5K races. Last year I think we did eleven.
I think we plan to do a couple of longer races this year.
This is a great group and we are glad you are here.
There are no miles today for me. It ended up being busy but tomorrow will be better.

New runner reporting in. 4th injury sustaining from training for a marathon. Knee feels like I'm getting shocked every time I climb stairs or do lunges. Starting weak. Hope to finish the month without an injury.

New to this challenge. I’m 65 and I’ve aiming for walking 4 miles, 3 times a week. I then weight lift alternate days. So far I’ve lost 4 pounds in 4 weeks. It’s slow going but that’s the point. It’s not a race. I’m going for lifestyle changes here. Well everyone have a good evening6

Today, I ran/walked 5 pavement miles. Total: 14/40. Planning on getting outside more to get my mileage.6

I ran 10 miles this morning. I tried to get out early to beat the heat, but it was 7:45 by the time I got out and it was already pretty hot. It wasn't too bad at the start. It was 76°F, feels like 76° with 77% humidity and a dew point of 68°. By the time I finished it was 84° feels like 89°. The humidity had dropped to 59% and dew point was still 68° but the last mile was pretty tough. I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. I had to detour a couple of times for loose dogs. They only barked at me and came to the curb, but not out of the yard. I wasn't going to chance running past them though. I saw a roadrunner at the cemetery. I haven't seen any roadrunners lately. And I saw a rabbit. He was on the side of the road and ran across the street in front of me. Then he stopped and I was able to get pretty close and take a picture.
I had to zoom in for the roadrunner, but not for the rabbit.
So even though it was hot and the last mile was rough, the run was still enjoyable. I do have a blister on my big toe. I recently got new socks. Has anyone worn bombas? I thought they were supposed to be good, but I haven't had blisters before.

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 13"00 pace). streak day 40
I did my 2nd "June Sunday two-a-day plan," I also ran 2.02 miles this morning down at Mission Bay.8 -
@SummerSkier - I haven't tried Mizunos in a while but also had sizing issues when did wear them. I also found that they wore out much more quickly than other brands.
@BeverlyW1108 - while I am not able to run right now I am 68 and didn't start running until my mid-fifties. I have run 28 HMs and many 5 and 10 Ks.
@VO2Maxlet - Welcome! Go easy on that knee so you don't aggravate it more.
@RtVanDalay17 - Welcome! Lifestyle changes are the way to go. You've got this!
06/01 - 4.37mi 12797steps
06/02 - 3.72mi 11339steps
06/03 - 4719steps
06/04 - 2.27mi 9450steps, Peloton strength program
06/05 - 2634steps, treatment day
06/06 - 3112steps
06/07 - 1.83mi, 6680steps
06/08 - 4.13mi, 12850steps
06/09 - 2.74mi, ~10130steps
Total - 19.06 miles, most in months
Trying to get out as much as I am able. Got myself a walking pad (walking treadmill). Doesn't go faster than a 15min mile so no running even if I were able to. I should have it all set up tomorrow. Planning a Peloton strength program workout and a short walk on the walking pad. Agility class with the pup in the evening.7 -
Morning all.
Got in 5.65M (at 09"55 pace).
Found it a bit tough today. 🤷🏽
Also... Sooo many new faces... Welcome; 🤗5 -
This morning I ran 5.16 miles before work.
I love the happiness on your daughter's face @ContraryMaryMary!
I have one pair of Bomba socks @kgirlhart but I've never used them for running. Are they made from a different material than your normal running socks? Cute rabbit! It must be bunny season as I've seen a lot of them lately.
@martaindale - I can't wait to hear about your trip to Japan. It looks like a great place to visit with beautiful sites and friendly people.
Welcome to all the new people!2 -
Just checking in to say “hello”. Just caught up on reading here. Great to see a lot of determined and amazing running by you all!!
Loved the hiking/camping photos @Teresa502!
Awe… congrats on your daughter’s diving achievement @ContraryMaryMary! She’s adorable!
Welcome to all that are new here! This is a great group.
Appreciate your concern and well wishes @ContraryMaryMary, @quilteryoyo, @kgirlhart and @Teresa502.
My sprained knee is still swollen. I’m bummed…. Doing core and upper body and arm workouts in the meantime (and a little bit on legs). Still need to keep icing and using ibuprofen.7 -
@steviebee888 I hate it when I do that. Nice job on the treadmill.
@ContraryMaryMary I'm glad you had such a nice run. Congratulations to your daughter. She's so cute!
@BeverlyW1108 Great running. I'll be 65 in August. I'm.a.little bit past a three year streak of running/fast walking every day. I started the streak when I had open heart surgery to repair an aneurysm in January of 2021. Take all the recovery time you need. The goal at this point is to stay healthy and injury free.
@SummerSkier I hope you're able to work things out with your new shoes.
You're doing great @tarun_yadavA and @martaindale.
@emptydog I didn't realize you were 76. You're doing great.
Welcome @VO2Maxlet . I hope a little rest will help your knee.
@RtVanDalay17 Sounds like a great plan.
Nice running @kgirlhart . Love the wildlife pictures and glad the dogs didn't give chase. I've never worn bombas, but like you, thought they were supposed to be good. I hope the blister isn't too bad and heals quickly.
Very nice walking and running @chris_in_cal .
@shanaber I hope you enjoy the walking pad and agility with Hobbes.
@daria0919 I hope your knee gets better soon. You're doing great to do what you can safely do and keep going.

Hi everyone!
The running conditions this morning were quite nice and I went on an 11.5km easy run with the goal of truly keeping my heart rate in an easy zone. That went pretty well. It’s mostly just an issue with me in my head fighting against my own running ego that thinks running needs to feel a bit hard to count. It wasn’t warm out but it was bright and colorful which always puts me in a good mood.
64.6/200km for June.

I struggled with the for a long time. Now I really enjoy a truly easy run!
Welcome to all the new folks! I love seeing so many new faces halfway into the year.2 -
Love the look of that run @laurz9191. And I agree, running slow takes practise.
Your runs sound brutal @kgirlhart, but apparently running in humidity is a bit like altitude training - it's incredibly good for your fitness and you should notice the effects later in the year.
Good to have you here @VO2Maxlet. Be gentle with that knee - stabby pain is not good.
Welcome RtVanDalay17, you're making amazing progress. And you're tracking well too @steviebee888.
So many new faces - I take it this is a happy side effect of the news feed disappearing...
As for me, I ran my usual 8km loop this morning and this time at speed (well, it's all relative, but nice to be back under six minute pace for this hilly jaunt). In the past week or so I feel as though I am returning to form. Perhaps that virus in January actually Covid - I know the first time I had Covid it took six months to fully recover. Also, my back, which has been niggly since the great lawn scarifying of April has finally come right. And, as my husband succinctly pointed out, maybe I'm just running more. Whatever it is, things are feeling easy again. Lovely!4 -

Treadmill run again this morning. Actually, two treadmill runs. The first was mostly easy running with a handful of fast 1-minute intervals. Then I did. A short run-walk to add on a mile and a half or so.
I figured out how to sync my treadmill with Strava. I don't know if this is a new feature, or just something I hadn't seen before. But, it works really well and saves me some time manually entering activities.
I also saw that I can connect the treadmill to Garmin but haven't gotten that to work just yet. I want test that out because if I can get it to sync with Garmin then Garmin would sync with Strava. All my info in all the right places without additional work from me. Sounds good!8 -
@Contrary_MaryM @quilteryoyo @shanaber thanks for the warm welcome and concerns. Got cleared by my therapist for running. Easy 20 minute run tomorrow.10
-
What a beautiful place to run @Laurz9191 . I'm glad you enjoyed the easier run.
I'm glad your running is felling good again @ContraryMaryMary , whatever the reason.
You did great today @martaindale . Great job on figuring out the technology synchronization.
Glad your therapist cleared you for running @VO2Maxlet . I hope it doesn't give you any trouble tomorrow.

23.60/80.0 mile goal
I didn't post yesterday. Mom and I went to church in the morning, came home just long enough for a snack and change clothes, and then went to my great nephew's 5th birthday party. I did a mile on the treadmill after we got home a little before 9 pm.
Today, I went to the gym early, worked at daycare for over 5 hours, and did my planned run/walk of 1/1 x 10 on the driveway. The wun portion was slower than I felt it should have been, but at least I got it done. Avg pace was 13:49 min/mile. Avg HR was 134 with a max of 154 bpm.
I am a little bummed that my newsfeed disappeared sometime today. I know some of the folks here didn't use it, but it was always the first thing I looked at and liked posting about my workouts. I will miss the folks that I will no longer have contact with.6 -
Neighborhood 1Mile (at 12"57 pace). Day 41
The July 4th 5K last year was at 12:10/mile pace.
This year under 12:00/mile for 5k...I can do that.

Morning all. Got in 5 at 09"51.
At Mother's. Last minute thing. Needed someone to take her to a Dr's appointment that just got made available.
@chris_in_cal here's a 👍🏽 up for your 500 day MFP streak.
I can see a lot of you are in mourning over the Newsfeed being turned off imminently
@quilteryoyo @SummerSkier @shanaber6 -
Hi everyone!
I had such a nice run this morning. It took forever to get my workout synced to my Garmin but finally I got it to work and then off I went listening to an audio book for 1hr20 minutes of easy running. This was followed by 20 minutes of fast running to music which felt so good to be able to do on tired legs. I was planning to run this part at marathon pace but actually ended up quite a bit faster than that. It just felt good to change the pace.
The weather here seems to have reverted back to winter. I needed long socks and a jacket (at least at the start). It was under 10C (50F). I am really going to suffer when it warms up around here!
80.8/200km for June.4 -
I'm pulling for you @chris_in_cal !
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Enjoy your time with your mom, even if it is going to a doctor's appointment.
Sounds like a great run @Laurz9191 ! We've had pretty good weather here in E TN, but it's going to get into the 90 (32.2C) s later in the week. I'm not looking forward to that.2 -
