Morning all.
Got in 7 miles (at 10"07 pace)
@ContraryMaryMary haha. Thank you! 😊
@quilteryoyo well done on the Tennis! ... You just left it at 6-6 ? No tie break?
@chris_in_cal keep on going with that streak! 💪🏽4 -
@VO2Maxlet "It wasn't so easy since I couldn't do my morning ritual on the porcelain throne. Pretty sure those spikes are just a boost from natural propellant." Hahahaha One of many reasons I usually don't jump out of bed and go for a run right away.
@chris_in_cal Great running. I would be right there with you, except I need another hour of sleep, so I'd be an 8am to 1 am person.
@ContraryMaryMary I'm really glad that your running is feeling normal again. I don't really have matchy matchy running gear, but I don't like to clash either....well, I do make sure that my running skirts and shirts match and I'm more likely to match when others are going to see me. I don't mind mismatch when I'm running on my driveway. LOL As for hats, I don't run in a hat, but do wear a hat/visor for tennis. I only wash them when they are really ucky looking. I put mine in the dishwasher (only thing there is the hats) so they get clean, but not tossed around, and then air dry.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great running. Yes, we left it at 6-6...not my choice, but I didn't argue. I really don't like playing tie breaks and the other ladies wanted to go ahead and change partners, so I went with the flow.4 -
@ContraryMaryMary - Most of my running takes place in the dark or in my neighborhood (I live in a rural area and on a typical 5 mile run, one car may pass me. I usually pass 6 or 7 houses but everyone is usually still asleep or inside.) so I don't worry about matching too much. If I'm participating in a race or running with a group in the daylight hours, I tend to take greater care about matching.
I wash my hats whenever they get stinky. Sometimes I can get 2 or 3 runs in them, sometimes only 1. I love the dishwasher idea @quilteryoyo!3 -
ContraryMaryMary wrote: »On that topic, how precious are you about your running getup?
On to topic two, who washes their running hats?
I am semi-precious. I keep clothes a long time but my outfits generally go together. Not really matching as I rarely buy the parts of an outfit at the same time. And I don't worry about matching my shoes to my clothes or anything.
I am also very sweaty. I rinse my clothes and my hat/visor in the shower after my run. The rinse seems to help keep stuff from getting smelly as quickly. Generally a rinse is good enough for getting sweat out of my hats so I don't really wash those. I don't want the brim to get all messed up and I'm not going to take the time to do a real hand wash.5 -

Disgusting this morning and I was regretting my commitment to doing these short early morning runs outside. But, I got it done and enjoyed listening to nature wake up and the lovely candy cotton colored clouds.7 -

Tough @martaindale !!3 -
Great job getting out there and getting it done @martaindale . BTW, not messing up the brim of the hats is why I use the dishwasher. Top shelf. Does great. I hadn't thought about rinsing them in the shower. That's a great idea too.3

@ContraryMaryMary I’m glad you had such a nice speedy run and your run-pep has returned. You really spoke to my soul with the hat question. There is no smell I hate more while running than my own stinky hat smell! I’ve only been running in a hat for the past year, so I actually just bought several more hats so that they would more match the time frame of my doing laundry .
I’m in central Germany, but originally from California.
Also, about the clothes- I don’t want to look too cringy out there, but I did wear blue neon knee socks with a purple shirt yesterday- gasp!
@tarun_yadavA Haha! Yes, I guess I need to be more consistent about my inconsistency . Definitely a km person now. Props to my Garmin settings! However, I’m used to “translating” weather into Americanese for my parents in VA.5 -
It has warmed up here, so no jacket OR long socks today. Still good running conditions though. I ran 11.5km including 15x 20 second sprints. It was a fun and somewhat challenging workout.
102.4/200km for June4 -
Got 3.73 miles in on my treadmill this morning. Have done terrible at trying to get some miles in this month. Haven’t had it in me to run more than once a week lol
But I have a 5k tomorrow night that I signed up for on a whim 2 weeks ago to run with a friend. So hopefully that will go ok 😂

Good effort anyway @andja87 and have fun with your 5K!!! 👍🏻

So happy it's rest day today, it's absolutely hosing down! I mean, I love running in the rain, but this is ridiculous.6
-
Oh my. Tx runners this morning was a 12 min pace kinda slog eh? ug.... @martaindale @kgirlhart 💦💦💦💦 I got a 5 er in but I am gonna guess that the dew point and air quality have a lot more to do with my pace than my cycle @ContraryMaryMary 😳🤣🤣🤣🤣 Altho post menopause I do believe we still have certain circadian type rhythms I don't think they are quite as pronounced as earlier in life. 🙃 But I did get a good laugh from your suggestion. Reminds me of when I was buying prenatal vitamins at the grocery because they are packed with so much GOOD stuff and the checkout congratulated me without looking up from the scanner. 🧐😎

@andja87 Sometimes getting out the door is the hardest part. Have fun with the 5K!
Great job on your slog @SummerSkier ! You are probably right about the heat, humidity, and air quality being the major factors in your pace.

June 13 - Walk 0.80 miles - Ran 2.20 miles - driveway wun
30.60/80.0 mile goal
I worked from 8:30-2:30 today and then did a driveway wun when I got home. It was a hot 86F (30C) and 40% humidity, so the feels like temperature was actually less than the actual temp, per Garmin (85F, 29.4C). I didn't even know that was possible.
My plan called for a run/walk for 2/1 minutes....running up the hills when it fell within the run times. Being hot and running longer, I did purposefully run a little slower than I would have otherwise. I also must admit that I cheated a little on the last two uphill runs. I walked for about 30 seconds on one and the other I turned around at a different point so I wouldn't have to run up the steepest hill. But, I was proud of myself for getting it done. Avg pace was 13:49 min/mile. Avg HR was 141 with a max of 160 bpm. My split paces were 13:30, 14:20, and 12:36.

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 13"02 pace). Day 45
Today was the last cool day and here comes Summer.
I love the old saying that June is the coldest month here. Not that it is cold, but the people in Phoenix, or Austin, or New York or anywhere east of here come out from their 86 °F (30 °C) places to go to the California beach and they only bring bathing suits and sandals. In June it is 59 °F at night and 67 °F in the day time, which is great, unless you are going to the beach and only have a swimsuit and sandals.
Our Independence Day (July 4) is a good marker for the start of the heat.
The flip-side is that September and October can be the hottest months (sometime November) when all those Phoenix, Austin, and everyone else people are digging out their woolens.
February/March is the most beautiful time to visit coastal California. And August is when you want to try and go to a beach and be hot.6 -
@ContraryMaryMary habits are hard to break. I make sure my running gear allows for top air flow for maximum toe cooling
Other than that, I just wear shorts and a shirt that I hope won't give me nipple chafing on runs over an hour. Make sure the phone stays at home on short runs. On long runs I take Wii strap to put on a charm slot on my phone case so it doesn't fly out of my hand when I run
@martaindale this is tenacity paid off. Very well done. Even if you do regret.
@chris_in_cal that cold June is ideal running weather for my tastes. Every time the sun hits me over here, it melts everything but my fat5 -
Average HR 149
Average SPM 171
I forgot my metronome so I went solo on the SPM monitoring
Run felt awesome. A runner caught my tail towards end of my 20 minute section run. I went complete primal. Didn't know what she was running from but whatever it was I didn't wanna be behind. Despite that, I still felt pretty strong.
Interview went okay. Thank you all again for the wishes!5 -
June Goal: 215 Miles
6/2: 11.02 miles
6/3: 3.15 miles
6/4: 6.26 miles
6/5: 1.10 miles
6/6: 6.27 miles
6/7: 6.51 miles

6/10: 3.15 miles
6/11: 5.51 miles
6/13: 6.52 miles
59.51/125 miles completed for June
I ran 6.5 miles this morning. It was 74°F, 100% humidity and dew point of 74°. I managed an average pace of 11:49 and was pretty proud of myself for keeping it under 12. I saw lots of cats today. A couple of dogs that were out barked at me, but they stayed in their yard.
@contrarymarymary Most of my runs are done in the dark, so I mostly try to wear light colored clothes. But if people will see me I do like to match. I don't wash my hat every time. But I do wash it regularly. I never thought of the dishwasher.
Good luck on your 5K @andja87 !

Hi Everyone!
My legs were tired today, so I thought it was time for a recovery run. I got rained on a bit, but other than that it was a quite uneventful and perhaps even a bit boring 9.1K. I am running a 5K race on Tuesday involving 3 laps through the inner city. I have been thinking about what goal to aim for. I can't really state a specific time - although beating last year's time would be nice - but I guess I just really want to have a good race and pacing from start to finish.
111.5/200km for June.7 -
Morning all
Got in 6.3M at 10"18.
@Laurz9191 Fahrenheit is the one I just can't. KMs not so bad... Maybe cos I'm a bit of Maths nerd and I can increment in .62 s lol6 -
I ran 5.03 miles this morning. I can't believe how light it is outside in the early hours. When I got up at 5:00 am, the skyline was already starting to lighten up. It was a very nice 61F here in Virginia.Anyone remember that a few days ago, I posted that I take Garmin comments with a grain of salt? Well... that was before I found the section that tells me my Fitness Age is 24! Garmin is WONDERFUL! I love GARMIN!
The sky at 5:40 am
Other than cows and horses, this little bunny rabbit was the only animal I saw. No people. No cars passing.9 -

I’m turning 65 before long and I’ve been content with Garmin telling me I’m 57 (considering the years of knee, ankle and hamstring injuries).
Your sunrise photo is beautiful! We get up at 5:30 here in Virginia, and we also noticed how bright and beautiful the mornings and sunrises are. We have a number of bunnies on our property this year- way more than usual.
This is my bunny Clover. She’s indoors and about 10 weeks old.

Screaming in joy! I absolutely love rabbits and everything about them. I used to frequently volunteer at a rabbit shelter called Red Door Animal Shelter coming out of undergrad. Currently registered to run under them for the marathon I'm training for!
As embarrassing as it may be, we are always welcoming donations and the marathon is a great way to donate any amount you may feel comfortable with to Red Door or any other charity they may support that you would like to donate to!4 -
Great consistency @chris_in_cal . I was surprised at the temps at the California beaches when I was out there. Also, we went to San Francisco in August and had to stop in a shop to buy a hoodie so we didn't freeze. I was shocked. LOL
@VO2Maxlet Yes, I think you need a new pair of shoes. Don't those hurt your legs when you run? I know it's time to switch to a better pair with I start getting shin splints and/or knee pain. Those look about like the old ones I use to mow the lawn in though. Nice running. It's amazing how little competition can make you run so much faster. Glad the interview went well.
You did great in those conditions @kgirlhart !
It does sound like a recovery run was due @Laurz9191 . Tuesday is an odd day for a race. Good luck and have fun with it.
Nice running @tarun_yadavA . I can count by 6's, but not 0.62's.
Beautiful sunrise and cute rabbit @Teresa502 . I'm going to do my best to get up and run early in the morning, when it is cooler. I would love Garmin too, if it told me that! It's says mine is 57, which I guess isn't horrible for being almost 65.
We're almost twins @daria0919 . When is your birthday, if you don't mind me asking? Mine is Aug 4. Clover is adorable!
@AlphaHowls Love the flower. It is amazing where some plants can grow! Great running and determination on your part too.4 -

June 14 - Walk 2.25 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - driveway wun - Gym 30:56 min
32.85/80.0 mile goal
I got up earlier than normal this morning so I could get to the gym before getting my car serviced. So, the workout was a little shorter than normal and mostly legs and core again. Fingers are still swollen.
When I got home, I did a true wun on the driveway. It was 83F (28.33C) and 62% humidity, but it felt way hotter than it did yesterday. I guess the humidity really does make a big difference. I wanted to take it easier today since I did legs at the gym and hope to get up early in the morning and get in a longer run while it is cool.
I was reminded of the Christmas Classic "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" while I was wunning today, because it was almost me! I heard a noise beside the driveway that I thought was Tippy and then an adult deer came running full speed across the driveway and down the hill on the other side. It was about a foot from me when it crossed. That one would be hard to explain to the insurance company/EMTs.7 -
Y'all got me wondering about my fitness age. 38.5. I'm almost 44, so not terribly far off but at least it's on the younger side.4
