How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds
Replies
-
This has really stressed me out because I don't see the support and progress by the friends I have made. I don't know who doesn't use the Newsfeed, it doesn't make any sense to me. I feel crippled in this app now. I have a busy lifestyle and I just need to get in and check on my buddies and get back to my business. It's been hectic for me lately so I don't know where my friends have transferred to. It's very sad that somebody would get rid of her "wall" type feature that many apps use. SAD, VERY SAD!!!2

I was just starting to look for 1 or 2 like-minded people to be friends with and now it's gone. Please reconsider, MFP! It really is what set this app apart.
They previously took away the personal blogs we each had too. Quite a while ago, but was good to have somewhere to journal.2 -

Now you can use your activity feed for that! 😀0 -

You can journal to your heart's content on the activity feed.0 -

Yes please - particularly interested in ones that integrate well with your Fitbit!
Cronometer integrates Fitbit data much more fully than MFP. I don't see anything like the newsfeed for interaction, so I have not explored it much more that logging a bit. The logging there is different than here, but works well enough, and I am guessing once I got used to the interface, I would find it easier.
MyNetDiary seems to have the ability to put together a friend list, but I would need to pay to directly use my Fitbit, however, since I linked my Fitbit to GoogleFit, I can import information through it. I only started playing with it yesterday, so I am still exploring.
LoseIt I looked at, but I haven't played with it much, and have no idea on Fitbit integration or friends interactions.
Cronometer is food logging only
MyNetDiary has old community posts from April 2023 showing the last entry, so I guess it's not used by too many.
Lose it, a bit different, but I will get used to it.
Still searching...because I need interaction with 'friends' not just a forum.
I’ve been on MyNetDiary for a few days now.
I also tried LoseIt.
The forums on MyNet Diary are actually much busier than here, but you have to find groups that resonate with you and your goals.
The learning curve is tricky there, but I am finding the features far better on MND than here, or even LoseIt.
I’m very likely to shift over there full time by the end of the month. I might pop into the forums here occasionally just to see how things are doing.
But I think this app is on its last legs. And I don’t say that lightly.

Thank you for the Community Activity Feed.
But could we have the option to show our feed to our friends? Right now it is either public (open to everyone) or private (open to just ourselves), but I might prefer to have my Activity Feed visible to certain people.
Thanks!

The forum is filled with people unhappy with your decision to remove the Newsfeed.
So, I have an idea, how about instead of just taking away a feature, you bring it back and improve it?
Like make people able to set it as the default screen when the app is opened.
Also, maybe actually ask members if they use a feature or not before just removing it.0 -

As for community posts, if you are looking on the webpage, they are all old. If you are looking on the app, they are far more current. They don't really have a newfeed for a curated friends list although you can have friends there. I am still exploring it though.1 -

Bring the news feed back or MFP will continue to lose people. I know so many people that either deleted their account or just deleted the app, because of the change. That is what made MFP so much different and better than the other fitness apps. Having to create and join many different groups to be able to keep up with your friends is too big of a hassle to deal with.0

Groups work kind of like the old newsfeed though with chronological sorting. If you have a big active group of amiable people, it's a close enough facsimile for me personally. I just like a supportive space for my own health/lifestyle related journal, and enjoy supporting others along their journeys as well.
Friendslists also effect the sorting on the main page. Things where friends even comment are pushed to the top. Presumably if you have an active friends list, you'd see much more of your friends activity in the newsfeed.
The other major benefit is that the app is young, and haven't been eaten by private equity. It's still a small privately owned company, working on newer code that will likely improve as things go on. They may even listen to suggestions, something that clearly MFP doesnt, and loseit really wont either.
I've gone through the alternatives now. With my only nitpick being the recipe creator not allowing bulk import is annoying, it is the most functional app with the most robust social features. More so than even here in its heyday.

Yup, and this makes it pretty useless for journalling - which I would like private, or 'friends only', like the personal blogs were, but I don't want my entire profile private.4 -
Still no change? I've found since they announced it I have had little motivation and struggled a lot. I know it's silly but the feed was so useful and I absolutely loved connecting with others.
C'mon MFP. Just bring it back already!!4 -

You have already joined us, but anyone else who is looking for an alternative, feel free to join our group:

Bolded part:
Bingo!
Two observations:
Somewhere in the support area of the community group admins have announced an “adopt a pal” initiative.
It seemed like a great idea, and I even made a comment saying I would love to join and help people out.
Zero response.
Zero engagement from the powers that be here.
This adopt a pal thing began a year ago
If MFP was actually interested in retaining any of us as customers someone from MFP would have done a little more work to grow this program. Or delete the posts about it if they’d changed their minds.
Literally no one would have noticed if they’d just deleted it.
Meanwhile, on My Net Diary I’ve already interacted with active representatives of MND multiple times.
Changed the nutritional information on two out of date items. (The forums here are full of questions about out of date information and the answer is “just be careful”)
And have been advised by a registered dietitian in the app about my disability and how it affects my calorie goal for losing weight.
I am more and more convinced that MFP is being left to wither away by the current owners. I don’t have proof of this, but all the data points lead to this conclusion.

I can not imagine everyone trying to recreate a newsfeed for themselves. The amount of time and effort is staggering. Administration what in the world were you thinking? It was the first thing I checked on the site each day, You really and truly dropped the ball on this.4
-
Ditto to all of the above. The personal newsfeed and peer support was literally the only advantage that MFP had over other calorie-logging apps.
I started trialing another app, just to see how they compared, then came back to MFP just to say how I preferred that it had the social support
... and there it was, gone. Poor call.2 -

I am morning the loss of it...I am 77 yrs old and have no idea what MFP is talking about this community feed...it sucks and I am still holding on that we will get our feed back...MFP killed the best part of this app..Shame on MFP...You will get a lot of people leaving this app because of your crazy change...It did nothing to help anyone...Get a grip and add the feed back ! Done with my two cents...And done with MFP...2

The community is a standard forum which have been around for at least 25 years on numerous different websites. MFP has one, so do sites for just about anything you can imagine. I'm sure you have come across them in the past 25 years.0 -
I am torn whether to just leave MFP with my over 9 year streak. Most of my long term OG friends have jumped ship to Lose It and now just have ghost accounts on here. I am torn what to do because the biggest part of MFP besides losing 200 lbs is the connection and the news feed with so many people. Many I have met in real life and many have even spilled over to my social media.4
-
What an awful decision by MFP....I feel like I have been gut punched by this app. Sure, I can live with the constant bugs and have over the years....but taking away the news feed was such a terrible idea on so many levels. I am sure MFP can view their metrics and see the mass exodus.9
-
Bring back the NewsFeed - many of us enjoyed the posts from our 'friends' and not having to join many many groups. MFP, I think you've underestimated how many of your users actually read the newsfeed and enjoyed it.13
-
I am new to MF and I like it but DO NOT LIKE how I have to go digging to see replies or find feeds. So from what I’m reading is I find a specific group & join or follow it.5
-
i agree 1000% I have already cancelled my premium subscription. app is useless without the newsfeed and scanning of meals.2
-
Hey friend! I was already on LoseIt for logging, now MFP lost me… I keep checking in to see if some kind of newsfeed comes back. So sad, I just hit 2000 days here. I think one of the LoseIt groups from here is called MFP Exodus.
@MFP what a mistake you’re making.7
